Greenhouse Cleanup - Finally dealing with the mess

- After a teaser of snow we knew it was about time we start dealing with the mess of our property that happened over the summer. Our house is built and we have a good amount of firewood gathered so we have the time to start dealing with it.
Although not fun, cleaning this mess has been needed to be done for a long time. We are not sure how well supporting the greenhouse will keep it from collapsing over winter. Getting out and cleaning it off is going to be a top priority after each snow.

Don't be so hard on yourselves Cody, you put it in there to protect and had to use some of the things which leaves it scattered a bit. You have been busting your backs to get into the cabin by winter, and you did it, so don't beat yourselves up for not being super man and super woman! One step at a time!
Suggestion: Strip the top of the logs and any branches still near the plastic. They notch to top of each log to seat the metal poles in
good idea. maybe add something to make sure split post dont puncture plastic?
I dont think anybody here thought the mess was from not being orginized. We all know you had to get the house built before winter and messes are part of no time. Now ya got it picked up so now you will know were things are and wont have to look for it come full blown winter! Keep up the good work. Im loving the channel!
You two are doing great. Our first year here we had stuff every where too. That first year is so tough but you guys got it going
I think your community are so supportive of each other. I’m sure Cody & Lori appreciate your advice and help. God bless.
Love watching your property evolve! It may feel like its happening slowly, but you're accomolishing tasks left and right! 😊
Y'all are kinda under the gun so don't beat yourself up. One step at a time 💪👍
I think you should be chopping a groove out of the top of each pole so it sits both sides of the metal support poles
Completing those "small tasks" every day will get you where you need to be. Try not to be so hard on yourselves, as you completed a small miracle just getting a warm roof over your heads for winter. Priority on getting things under cover before the snow falls and hides it from you. Organization can happen a bit later. Really enjoying your journey, and cheering for your successes!
The homestead is coming right along, looks great!
So amazed at how hard you’ve both worked towards your dream! You deserve all the success that’s going to be coming your way!!!
Wow, lots of progress, looks great! Don’t stress, you prioritized things that were more important, you’re doing awesome. Have a great week.
Lots of work to do- you’re only 2 people that are doing a great great job!! Don’t worry about what anybody says, it’s your work to do!! I’m seeing great progress there!! My best to you both-
Need a roof over the sawmill at least that's my thoughts. I'm amazed at what you have done in such a small amount of time. Well done.
Cody if the log prop slips off the pipe you will have a problem. You need to notch the log or drill a hole and put a cable tie through it so it will not slip. Just a suggestion.
You are both working so hard! One thing at a time. God bless!
Try making a v notch at the top for more stability on the poles
You two are doing it right . I grew up near Fairbanks so I know what your dealing with . My family built our log cabin home . Your content is real . Little tip for you , splitting the wood at -20 is so easy . Just tap it with the axe and it splits effortlessly . My preferred method . Love watching you two .
Yes! Y’all are champions and I can’t wait to see you realize it too ❤
Bothe of them work very hard including his wife I pray for them both and are behind them 🔥👍🌎🙏
I sure hope the strawberries make it. Excellent video. I enjoy watching you both. Such hard workers and it will pay off in the long run. Thank you
With any additional treetop poles you could make a bushcraft post and beam structure as a woodshed and use your slab wood for siding/roofing the air gaps in the slab wood would actually help the firewood dry. It seems the more remote/self reliant you are, the more stuff you need and the more you recycle.
I'm sorry you have to go through this. I don't who sold that land but it is sad you dig down so far to get dirt but you guys doing it and I say great Job guys you should be proud of what you have done and now dried in and some space and warm dry place to live
You guys are doing a great job. You're awesome people, and you're doing incredibly good. Keep up the good work, don't get discouraged. You guys are doing just fine
Just a bit of advice. Cut your wood to the largest size that will fit into your stove. You will significantly reduce the number of cuts and the effort and time will also be reduced. Hope this helps with this, "tedious at the best of times task". All the best man.
Your belongings in the greenhouse next year the beginnings of starting your garden.
One man’s junk is another man’s treasure !!! Keep what I can u never know what u will need💪🏻
Lots of progress. You guys are doing great. Stay warm. I look forward to your next video. Take care🥰🇺🇸✌️
Cody, you’re a good man.
Great job guys, so satisfying to clean!
Ви чудові. Багато зробили.
When anyone moves there’s always “stuff” extra. Living off grid you need to keep stuff for future projects. the greenhouse is definitely more organized. Good job! It can be overwhelming. Being organized saves so much time and energy, no more hunting for stuff.
Great way to clear out the gas on chain saws, Lots of work all over but its looking a lot better
You kids have been down a hard road of abstacles to get where you are don't beat yourself up your doing the best you can do with all the conditions that you have to work with We love you to
I agree with notching or flattening those logs in the greenhouse you might even throw a couple loops of string around them to hold them in place is one good wind and they're all going to be punched right through your plastic and that would be a disaster. I agree with just watching the top a little bit just a quick V and throw a loop of nylon cord around it and you are good. Keep up the great work you guys you're an awesome inspiration.
Put some time of rubber over the tops of the posts in your greenhouse to protect the plastic. You could cut up some of the pieces from the stuff you milled, they would work for the wood stove. Good luck and got this.
I thot that was great last time you cut logs only partially thru with 3 cuts then moved into place. Good you are getting more wood. Thanks for explaining all it takes to complete your build and set your place in order to live.bwe all like living vicariously thru you both.
Great job!
good to see you in your A-frame good job
Everything looks great you guys doing a great job
Cody your work ethic is amazing.
Great video Cody and Lori
Excellent video. What a clean up guys. A pity the camper van can’t be used as storage space. Maybe put a tarp over it during winter? Plastic storage tubs are good to keep stuff in while the cabin is being finished. But store them in the high tunnel. I wouldn’t store anything in the cabin, it’ll only be clutter, especially if your winter project is to finish the interior of the cabin. Your channel really shows us viewers, who sit in the comfort of our living rooms, how difficult off grid life is if we want to be self sufficient and mortgage free. Thanks for sharing, Cody, Lori & Irie. Australian fan.
Looks like my greenhouse, just bigger. Or my closet. Or my office. Or my bedroom, lol.
Stay strong and resilent my friends. Yall are doing great! One day at a time!😊😊😊😊
Yeah, I'm with the other commenters concerned about those poles. Even if just one slips, that could start a chain reaction and collapse the whole thing. You need a better solution.
You’ve done a great job well done from outback Western Australia…
Your doing great.. things take time
Great job hang in there with for sure
It’s still so hard to believe that you are living INSIDE YOUR HOUSE…wahooo!
Putting leaves around the plants in the pots will also help protect those plants from extreme cold. Also, when you get some snowfall covering the strawberries and pots with snow will also help protect the plants.
See ya on the next one
everyone has a space like that - my garage need a full clean out - my only thought for the posts you are putting in to hold up the green house it to put a V in the top to hold it around the metal
Great video. You accomplished lots. You’re doing great. You’re going to have to invest in some microphones when you can because we can’t hear a word you’re saying especially when you turn around and talk or have the machines on. 😊
Lori, you look like you have a bit of a cold. I hope you’re feeling better soon 😊💕
Just a suggestion, pex tubing and the sun don't get a long . You might want to cover it so the sun doesn't degrade it.
I’m shocked that none of the clean out was recorded… I just started the video and was looking forward to seeing you organize. Wow… could have even been a Timelapse
Nice work! Have a good day. What's the next project during winter? Kisss from France
Would it help if you notched the top of your poles in the greenhouse?
The Echo seems to be a very popular saw.
👍👍
Dude, love your chainsaw collection! A man can never have enough chainsaws, lol.
👍
Можливо як що є час, зробити столи чи стелажи і складати речи туди). Про полуницю- добре ще й гілками ялинковими накрити, пухнастими
I know this is gonna come back to you late, but why didn’t you could’ve be in the top of the woods so they fit on the bar a little better this is Scott in Pleasant Grove Utah. Love the channel.
You just need some shelves built to keep the stuff off the ground.
Quite a collection of chainsaws.
I thought you would've used some of those logs you chopped for fire wood as some posts for a temp fire wood storage shelter??
Question just because I really do not know- will the greenhouse plastic withstand the snow and frigid temperatures and snow weight? I know you talked of adding bracing to help with snow weight.
To keep the weight of heavy snow from collapsing the greenhouse fill the greenhouse with snow. See how brilliant I am. Check back tomorrow for more unwanted advice.
😂😂😂
Hi you know the sawdust from where y'all mail take it all baby and put it over them strawberries for extra cover maybe they'll make it I pray that they make it y'all doing a good job just hold your head up high and just do a little better each day and that's all God asked us all to do so don't be hard on each other love one another and enjoy each day. Because tomorrow nobody's promise tomorrow. Baby so y'all just be sweet to one another and watch each other's back y'all better put that pistol on your hip don't be going out there it's getting cold now y'all get a gun and keep it with you and be safe as always and God
What kind of energy did it take to move all that out to put in posts. Wow. Maybe designate kitchen area. Tool area. Buckets. Garden tools. Etc.
And at the end I see you did that. Looks great. Wow that was alot of work done.
Your little cook stove is nice but when it really gets cold supper cold there that lil" stove will work you to death trying to keep the cabin to maintain the heat in the cabin alnight.
I see your backhoe behind you. When did you get off the side of the road and up on to your property? Iz it up and running and do you use it alot? 3:36
🇳🇴👍👍
I guess you know that the tent walls won’t handle the weight of snow around them .. I seen someone in North Idaho lose their tent .
Sweetie, you look like you’re miserable with a cold. I rarely give advice, so ignore this if not needed, but I’m an old grandma and I’m worried. Your lips look chapped. A supplement called L-lysine would help tremendously. When you get mouth sores or fever blisters, it can be caused by a lack of this amino acid in your diet. L-lysine is one of the few supplements proven to work. It helps your skin heal itself. It’s cheap, and I would send you some if I had your address. It’s not a miracle, but it does help.
L-lysine is the BEST 👍🏻

I have used the auto translate to watch videos from the Ukraine. It works sometimes, sometimes not.

Hears a comment for wat kind of tractor did you by that won't run maybe we can help
you cant say or you just run-in with the
comment the money
Don't understand why you are burning your nice hardwood before the cold sets in
I love your videos but I think you guys are screwed for winter
What makes you a know it all. They will prove you wrong .
@@irenekegel5988they come from Wisconsin! They know about snow! They just built a house on raw land! They know about hard work. The trees he cut were all dead so it’s not wet wood. Amazing how you would choose to make comments intended to discourage people without even taking the time to get the facts. Dumb! Really dumb! And mean!
Give Lori a break. She doesn’t look well. Lori, hope you’re ok. Head cold and flus are the worst things to have in winter. 😢
@@irenekegel5988 good points. Off grid women’s life is hard, especially when you’re working against the elements. Perhaps Lori is the one filming? Recording a good video is not an easy task. Getting the camera angle, audio, etc is not easy!
Who is pat?
Early on they said they helped a neighbor cleaning out to sell and got a lot in trade, I'm guessing that is who.
Noisy machine
Whelp, I'll be watching your channel some more this winter. I understand your desire to utilize the greenhouse, however, this is one where you are about to gain some cheechako wisdom on the way to sourdough status.
The poly is going to get shreded this winter no mater what you prop the frame with. That greenhouse was never intended or designed for the winter conditions of Alaska. In -10 or -20f that poly is going to break and tear under any kind of load from the snow. Not to mention the winds we get in the winter. It's just not going to work. I know it sucks having to move that stuff to a more protected location but imagine having to do it in -10f and 4ft of snow.
I guess we will see, it will be entertainment anyways.
👍
