- The holiday season is looking quite different for us this year. Experimenting and learning how to cook on a wood cook stove has been so much fun. Not everything turns out, but it usually tastes pretty good.
This year we made some chicken soup, lemon poppyseed "muffins" and pizzelles.

This brought joy to my heart! What a special Thanksgiving filled with delicious food. Take care you two ❤
No hate here just a cooking tip from an old lady. When making soup with chicken hold off adding your cooked picked chicken to the pot until after you’ve added and cooked your veggies. The vegetables will cook faster without competing with the chicken. Once the veggies are cooked add your chicken. Once the chicken is warmed up, you’re ready to eat. Hope you had a lovely day. Happy holidays.
I agree. The cooked chicken loses its flavor.
That makes sense because the chicken is already cooked.👍👍
Yes!!! Amazing work Cody and Lori ❤❤❤
I am stoked for your 6foot counter top! Twice as much as my city apartment. Y’all work hard to be Living the dream ❤❤❤
Happy Thanksgiving to you two. I enjoy watching your videos of your homestead build, and I’m excited about your new addition to your family.
That was my first cookbook when I got married 47 years ago, it’s still my favorite! Your soup looks delicious!❤️❤️✌️
It’s so nice to see you two relaxed. You’ve worked so hard. Happy holidays.
You kids are brave. Besdt wishes
For a great first holiday in Alaska ❤ 17:53
Lori and Cody Happy Thanksgiving! Celebrate however you want for the holiday
True Alaska livin I love it !!!!💪🏻🇺🇸
Happy Thanksgiving. Next year it’ll be “3”❤️
I think your “Cooking Show” was perfect! The soup really looked good, the muffin/cake was perfect, and the Pitzels (sp) were super great! I cannot imagine cooking on a wood stove, so I consider both of you as experts! I hope you’ll cook other things. Looks like Alaska life agrees with you because you’re both well and happy. Happy Thanksgiving to you from Texas!
Looks absolutely delicious 😋. So glad y'all are comfy and safe!
The egg shell trick really works
I cooked for 2 days , duck dressing, cajun fried turkey, homemade yeast rolls, fruit salad, garlic mashed potatoes, Giblet gravy, green bean casserole, not to mention the Pies and it was just for my husband and I, but alot more showed up after they found out that I had cooked 😂
The pizzelle maker takes a little getting used to but it's worth it. I have a little wooden cone that I wrap them around as they cool to make ice cream cones.
Cody could whittle one! 🤗
Tradition is nothing more than repetition, do your own thing and be happy, Love from Michigan.
Happy Thanksgiving! Just think next year at Thanksgiving you will have a rug rat to enjoy.
Very hardy soup and treats are always more special during the holidays. Everything looked delicious. Thanks for the video.
Happy Thanksgiving. .
You were smart to dry those veggies. Never tried garlic. Good for you.keep your dried fruit from exposure to light and it will keep it fresher looking. Parsley should grow well up there. Mine is still showing growth late into fall and tolerating a little frost in Wisconsin.
Yummy! I can smell the deliciousness from here!
Nothing more relaxing than the wood fire going cooking home made soup. The cabin looks so cozy.❤-Diana
Hope you had a special Thanksgiving! Loved watching you guys cooking together! Glad you're doing so well. Praying for your family and the baby.
God bless You. Greetings from Poland.❤❤❤
Your house looks cozy Cody knows his way around the kitchen.
Love your channel!! (I just made my first soup this past winter and it was a lot like you did. I didn't add corn, but that's something I might do next time. I think I added peas b/c that's what I had in the freezer. **I also added a bit of half & half, but you could use butter. It added some heft to it. I also added cheese on top after I put in the bowl b/c I love cheese lol.) Anyways, sorry to give unsolicited advice, but I'm learning how to cook so just wanted to tell the internet. :) Also God bless you both!! I love that you're doing things for the first time; that is what makes this channel so great.
Sure was awesome to see you guys cooking you guys are wonderful
Cool shirt, ARCA RACING!!
Happy Thanksgiving! I’m impressed that you used the space you have to make a special meal. You’ve come a long way in a short time. P.S. your baby bump is adorable!
I would love to see your current set up in the house and your plans for updates this season! Happy Thanksgiving!
This was so much fun watching y'all in the kitchen ❤
Great soup. So I see for me that stove would take me a while to learn but you kids are doing awesome..oh I like your tool to test Temps on stove. Is the stove hard to learn I have gas n have never had a wood anything. Happy Thanksgiving...mama your looking lovely!!! Daddy your being good support..

As the only soup lover in my family and it being summer and 8am in the morning here in a heatwave in South Africa your delishes looking soup made me so hungry for soup, that despite all the aforementioned I cooked me a big pot of Chicken soup and will enjoy a cup every now and then this week as well. You two are doing a great job cooking delicious meals and treats with limited cooking area. Good for you. Enjoy. Happy Thanksgiving. Take care from Cape Cod👍🥰🇺🇸
Three meals for 2 people sounds good to me I wish we had made a simple meal other than the traditional dinner there's only two of usand id rather have chicken than a turkey any day!

I'll say it again. Cook the giblets and use the broth for added flavor in the soup!!!
And don't you even have a bowl?
You're starting your own traditions. And soon there will be three of you plus the dog. Happy Holidays from Minnesota.
That chicken soup looked delish. Nothing went to waste. I like your style of cooking Lori. I’m a 1 pot cook and not a measurer either. If it looks good, smells good - should taste good. Pleased to see you’re both relaxed. We don’t celebrate Thanksgiving in Australia but wishing you both Happy Thanksgiving. avid 🇦🇺 fan. Enjoy your videos, makes a lovely relaxing Sunday afternoon for me 🙂❤️
I like your canning jars filled with dried veggies and spices.
You two are so cute!
Like any new skill it’s usually near the end when you master it. Good job.
I love pizelle, my dad used to make them. I’ve got one of his old cast iron molds. Yum!
Happy Thanksgiving!! The soup looks delicious. So does the lemon poppy giant muffin. I like my pizelles a bit darker. We sprinkle them with powdered sugar or brush with honey and sprinkle nuts ontop. You've made a wonderful home for yourselves in the short amount of time in Alaska. Stay warm and enjoy the holiday season.
Looks like you had a great thanks giving dinner . Dont have to be traditional to be special. Thanks for sharing
Omgoodness look at that little baby bump you look so cute
Happy Thanksgiving 🦃
Hey you 2, Happy Thanksgiving! And may God bless you and all things under your domain with every needful thing you require to be fruitful and always prosper in the land ,,, Amen
Do you no what you are having yet. I hope you are feeling better today. I love y'all from GA
Looks great hope you had a happy holiday and the difference between cake and bread is that a cake is sweeter, more delicious, and contains much more calories than bread. Cakes are leavened using baking soda while the bread is leavened using yeast
Hey question... do you guys know Becca and Levi in Alaska? They seem to live in that area & are around same age.
The soup sure looked yummy 😋
💜🕯👋
Happy Thanksgiving, nice to see you guys cooking and enjoying life.
Lori you can use a fork to zest lemons or oranges. Just drag it down, I've been doing this for my whole life.
Cody it's not a cake, a sweet bread. 😊
🥘👍
Have you tried sour dough bread? That would give you lots of options like cinnamon rolls raisin bread dinner rolls pizza crust just an suggestion
Soup looked delicious. Do you ever dust the swedish treats with powdered sugar? I had a friend who made them and she sifted a little powdered sugar over them. So yummy.💖
How is the weather?
I enjoy your videos but I feel sometimes you are too critical of Cody
Take care and stay well this winter season!
Loved the cooking until the fast forward kept going and it was fast talking 😂. Sorry I did watch it all. I did enjoy it but the fast forward was funny
Where's the baby's room going to be ???
Charge the battery while the generator is going
When a recipe calls for milk and you are using powder milk and the powder to your dry ingredients, stir it in, then add water to your wet ingredients. Because the powdered milk is in the dry ingredients there will be no lumps. (Eg. Two tbsp of dry milk powder makes one cup of milk). I use this in all recipes so i can save the real milk for drinking. They make skim milk powder and a whole milk powder. The whole milk powder has a good mouth feel, it is more like real milk in taste. Save the fat off your boiled chicken. It is called schmaltz and is great for use when frying eggs or making bread or biscuits.
Way too much fire to cook. Use the size of a gas burner to gauge amount of fire needed. Small flame cooks with more control and better.
SAYS THE EXPERT
Never stir your enamel pot with sharp knives....
8:25 The easy solution for that is let the person who isn't pregnant cut the onions.
She's not the nicest to him.... I feel so bad for him...
She’s young and she’s pregnant!! It’s so hard. They’ll learn.
