When I was little i used watercolor pencils by dipping it in water 🤦
lmao same!
samee
That still works, it just makes the pencil lay down more pigment and makes it fuller when u color in with it
This is a legit technique and I used it in some of my art classes! No shame in using art supplies in “unintended” or unusual ways
That actually works too, it makes the pencil easier to colour, but won't spread like water in watercolour.
These videos are so helpful for beginners like me. I would absolutely love to learn about brush shapes, sizes and how you avoid uneveness of the color when working with watercolors.
yeeees
Word!
i’m a novice watercolor painter at best but for even coverage i would recommend using a bigger brush with a good amount of water and working quickly. a 100% cotton paper helps with the texture as well but it’s my cv more costly so regular watercolor paper will work fine. experiment with cold and hot press papers (how much texture it has) bc the paints will react differently. you can also try mixing the color with water on a palette instead of just out of the pan (idk if i’m explaining this well, but making a little puddle of watercolor and using that to paint with instead of mixing it on the paper can help with evenness)
@@xoAraceli lll lol ll i’ll
try using a wash when you are doing a large area like for skies, or for the undertones of buildings or people! a wash is a bit of paint with a lot of water. the more water helps the paint to not cluster in one spot of pigment basically
you may want to tape the paper down flat if you use a wash because it'll make the corners fold up! :)
“No one has ever been able to explain it so don’t even try!”
Science: let me introduce myself
The scientist that came up with the concept: 🥲
The water color has chemicals so it activates the pencils. By the way I'm a 10 year old child so this guy is just stupid.
artists ARE scientists! It’s just gum Arabic and pigments in a pencil.
@@jellybeangacha3461 well he understand that but he is trying to make the video exciting and interesting.
Making fun of people on the internet is not something a ‘10 year old’ should be doing
The concept of Joking : let me introduce myself
As a watercolor marker user I almost cried at that drawing you did 😭 it's not horrible of course, but one can def see that it's not your usual medium
Girl I wanted to cry like WHYYYYYYY so much red nooooo But it’s still came out beautiful
Give them another go!!! Use more water and MOVE FAST
Quick tip for the markers that you could try:
Add a layer of water where you intend to colour before using the marker. There's dedicated brush pens with a barrel of water in them that you can use for this reason, they should be pretty easy to find
I guess it depends on the brand. My markers for example would suck up the water so that directly after, they don't work anymore for a while
Thanks for this! & lol ur name! Same here! 🤗
I also see a lot of people put them down on a plastic pallette and then use them just like regular watercolours with a brush. Just maybe as a more travel-friendly option, or they're more saturated? I don't know, that's just what I've seen.
The brush pens with water aren’t exclusively for that! They’ve been around for a lot longer then ive seen the markers around (or at least stocked in my local shop) they are also good for travel so you can put water in the brush and then you dont have a messy cup of water you have to carry around and risk spilling if you’re painting on a train persay!
But yeah they sound like theyd work for that too! Though my use of alcohol markers make me worried that the marker would soak up the water and make they hard to use or damage them.
I'm looking to buy one of those water brushes if I use my watercolour pencils enough to justify having a special implement solely for them. IDK how they'd work for markers, but they look so useful for people like me who are apt to knock over their cup of water! Lmao
I’ve never heard of watercolor pencils before. Truly very interesting, thank you for teaching about them!
Well I am using it for 3 or 4 years eventhough i am not much of an artist because it's very easy to use
I love them. They’re so helpful ☺️
I used it since 13 years old. You also can mix the 2 colour..
Really I grew up with cayola ones!
Ive been using them for school since elementary
and theyre annoying..
i would recommend watercolor crayons. They work great giving both saturation and transparent look. They also don’t leave behind those initial marks. I used them to create a realistic painting of my dog and I would say it was one of my best works!
Thank you so much for the video! I always had the Faber-Castel watercolor pencils when I was growing up and never knew how to use them properly. Now I'm finally able to use them as intended.
Oooo I also use that!
SAME BRO
@@myannguyen1274 SAAAAAAAAME
same! i still have them 😯
Same, I had these exact ones, but I didn't know how they worked.
Batman looking sexy with that pink lipstick. 😂 😂 Thanks for the explanation.

I was thinking the same
I agree
That's wut i said LOL
Agree bro has huge lips
Watercolor pencils help me so much with my paintings. I use them for fine details and shading, and blend them out to create depth and detail. If I want to add extra shiny reflection on items or eyes, I’ll even dip the tip of my white pencil in water and then dab it on so it’s more opaque. Such a great tool!!!
I use the marker directly on the paint palette and add water when I want other colors that only my markers have, but I have many watercolors so usually it's just out of being lazy and not wanting to mix my colors haha
Watching someone work with watercolour pencil is very satisfying! You should do them more often
I remember being introduced to watercolor pencils in elementary. I have 2 sets of them and they are now my favorite medium.
Spidey with little pupils in his suit's eyes looks so cute!!
i had water color pencil when i was little and they were AMAZING
Your videos are so inspiring. You’ve really made me get interested in art again. Your the best man, keep it up!
I use mostly water color markers and traditional in pan. Just smear the marker ink on a smooth metal/plastic surface and mix it with water. I like how vibrant the colors are. Plus i have a few nice shades as markers i never seem to mix right so it helps too
"Don't even try", he says as he explains it perfectly.
Ha
You should definitely try the derwent inktense watercolour pencils, they are my absolute favourite watercolour pencils 😁🌻
Verdad!! 🤩🥰😃👍🏾
This is super cool, I have some watercolour crayons, they are one of my favourite traditional mediums. They blend amazingly, they don't streak like pencils can, and are a joy to use. Nice to see other water soluble mediums being used.
I have always loved using my watercolour pencils. It was very useful during arts and craft lessons in school. I still use it till now❤️❤️
I had watercolor pencils as a kid but I never knew how to use them 😭
Well it's my first time hearing about watercolor markers
I always liked dipping my water colored pencils in water before using them. I loved how pigmented it made the colors
something I like to use, and don't call me crazy, is a mix of both! use the markers as a base and draw with the pencil on top! it's super cool to see both material's colours blend together and nicely!!
I love this man, he makes me so happy and I love seeing his art!
Thank you for recommending Zebra brush pens in one of your videos! I bought them yesterday and I've been loving them ever since!
They brought me out of a very big artblock and now I'm so excited about what I can create with them!!
In art class we use loads of water color from the tube and every now and then we get to use watercolor pencils 😃. I love watercolor and one time I wanted to do an experiment with some dry clay so I put it in water and it turned just like watercolor and I’m still painting with it! The longer I let it sit the more saturated it keeps getting ! I was very surprised that it turned basically into paint from some air dry clay ! I recommend trying :)
Honestly, its all about technique with the pens. I use watercolour pens for my art and its about how you use them that changed the results and may even give results that youd prefer over another method. ❤️
As a practicing artist, you’re my favorite RUclipsr out there! 😊 you make my day man ❤️
I still have my watercolour pencil after about 4 years. I knew how to use them, thin paper is a real problem yk 😭🙌
My best trick for markers is to put them in a surface they can't dry to! Then you have ultra pigmented color until you run out. I usually use the back of a glove or a piece of plastic and just scribble a bit in a circle and dip the water brush in that
I got a whole set of watercolour pencils for Christmas and I use them so much more than my markers.
I love them so much.
Would you ever consider making something reminiscent of E H Shepherd? I’m hooked on your vids
I have a question… what would you recommend for a good color pencil set for professionals?
I like how the pencils had the blue and purple a bit mixed
Thank you! Someone got me a water color pencil kit for my birthday, and i never knew how to really use them. This helped a bit.
"Where can I buy them?"-- my mind
(Although I know I can search up a shop to buy them"
Batman with lipstick. Who's next😂
Maybe ironman😗 oooh please do venom😶
I love love LOVE watercolour pencils...so much control....
I use all three most of the time, I love how in art you can create something with different ways. Sometimes I put any medium I can into a drawing and it's fun. It's not cursed if you do it right.
Can you paint my profile picture please?
Honestly, I love the blue streak. Makes it look pretty badass
I actually really like water color markers and have been using them for a while! They work really well if you just don’t apply the marker directly on the thing you’re painting. Like, I’ll put a few dots of the marker in the margins of my sketch book, pick up the color from the paper with my paint brush, and then paint my sketch from there if that makes sense. If you do apply the marker directly onto the picture, just be sure to use it sparingly and the marks left behind from it shouldn’t be nearly as bad, and it’s easier to shade that way. They’re really great, they just don’t work quite like traditional water colors, but there are some work-arounds for that.
They are beautiful with wet on wet technique
As someone who works closely with watercolour markers/pencils for ages now, I can say it's completely magic
Thank you for inspiring me to finally get back into art I’m loving water colour pencils
The first time I got to use watercolor pencils I feel in love with them. 🥰
THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR TELLING ABOUT WATERCOLOR PENCILS!!☯️👍
your voice is so soothing and wholesome
I thing i used to love doing in college was to apply water on my paper and then draw with a watercolor pencil. It feels soooo smooth and it's great for making harsh lines
i literally love watercolour pencils. got them for my birthday
This reminsed me when I used my watercolor pencils on a camvas for a painting project, and I loved the initial marks from the pencil added a layer of detail
I really like your voice it’s relaxing and soothing
Watercolor pencils are a really great medium to work with! I've only used them for a handful of projects so I'm no expert, but I've found that I personally get the most use out of them if I use a separate piece of watercolor paper to "swatch" the color I'd like to use first (laying on the pigment very heavily) and then wetting that swatch and transferring the watercolor onto my actual drawing with a watercolor brush. Doing it this way prevents the scratchy initial pencil strokes from being seen underneath the sheer pigment when you do wet it if you were doing it directly on the paper, because even if you do do it lightly like he demonstrated in the video, you still have less control over the finished look (or at least I did) and you have to make sure the coloring process is very even if it's directly on the drawing too. I found layering pigments between coats a less hazardous process too with the separate paper/palette-esque method. That's not to say what he ended up doing with the water color pencils is bad or anything (it's probably preferential and how the pencils were meant to be used anyway) but I thought I'd mention an alternative method for those still struggling with application if they were still interested.
I know I was pretty bad with them too when I was using them lol. I kept dunking those sorry pencils directly into my cup of water, which is great for laying on heavy pigment, but not much else haha.
Anyhow, if you ended up actually reading this behemoth of a comment props to you lmao. I hadn't intended to ramble like that :p
Hope someone finds it informative though :D
The part where he says ",just not pressing down as hard" the batman looks realistic for a sec with the way the colors blended.
Also I love ur art, I am an artist myself and these are really helpful even though I don't color my art.
I saw a painting that someone who used the watercolor pencils had done, and the colours were vibrant and look just as beautiful as watercolor paint.
I'd recommend the
watercolor pencils definitely.... 📝✏️
I just started using watercolour pencils and they are so pretty!!!!!! ❤️
It would be fun to experiment with the markers, all the same!! I've often wanted exactly that :)
Watercolor pencils are my favorite art supply I love them so much
I found the W&N markers leave a residue. I moved to the Faber Castell as I found them to have a bit more lifting power. Too they have a really nice granulation I didn't see in the WN.
Yes they can seem to stain or not lift in color, but a great trick. Use some alcohol on a cotton swab and the watercolor, that almost seems like INK, will just lift leaving virtually NO residue. I also like using 99% Isopropyl and seeing how it plays. Adding it down on the paper first then adding color is fascinating and so it the reverse. It's just fun to PLAY. EVERYTHING you do doesn't have to be for a SALE, it can be just for creative inspiration and investigation!
Thanks for another great short!🧡✨🧡
Ooo I have some water color crayons but these are super cool too!
I use regular pencils and dip em in water- that works too
I just fricking love your Batmans they’re always… them
I don't know why, but even tho I already new all that thats the coolest thing I've seen all week.
I love the little wizard panda 🐼
I don't know how to use watercolor only watercolor pencil and I totally love it, it seems a lot more easier to me
We actually used water color pencils during art yesterday and it was really fun
I love watercolor pencils. I often use water to blend the colors or smooth out the colors.
I love my water colour pencils. They are so fun and a love to work on my watercolor paintings and using the pencils to add value
When I use water based markers I always draw them on a separate piece of plastic and use water to pick up the pigment from the sheet. That way they don't end up streaky :)
When I need a lot of color I draw the base color and go over it with water then wait for it to dry before I add my next layer
Watercolor pencils are my absolute favorite.
The cool thing for me about them, is that the blend incredibly, incredibly well. I barely ever use them as watercolors with water, just as color pencils, that blend so much better than even my most expensive color pencils.
I used water color pencils to and made a Caribana. 10/10 with water color pencils! Best art work I've done yet. I can't wait to do more with them!
I have made some of my favourite art with water colour pencils. They are a really good time and work best with a gentle application
seeing spiderman's eyes like that looks kinda cool actually, even if its not what people prefer
It's very nice to shade to dark to light also like normal watercolor
Oh, i didn't know this is how you'd use watercolor pencils, ty for teaching me!
Watercolor pencils were my gateway into watercoloring. On days when I feel like crap, I'll use watercolor pencils because it's easier to blend colors and layers.
I don't think I've seen these before. That's cool
It's also fun to do line work with watercolor pencils on very wet paper. You still get the clear lines but with some blooming around the line. I haven't done much with this but I feel like you could do some cool stuff with this effect.
I love to use watercolor pencils as just color pencils, no water. They feel good to use, have great texture and the saturation is amazing.
Watercolor pencils was my go to soo I bought some but on new cold press paper! Thank you :)
I feel like the watercolor markers seemed to have a cool effect. Definitely a lot of potential
I just bought the watercolor pencils (all thanks to my mother who is also an artist), it's easy and fun for me to blend colors, and keeps me practicing color blend more and more
I got watercolor pencils because of this video, and they are the BEST!!!! I got the Windsor and Newton large set, and I love them. Cause I can draw on the road (we are on the road a lot for work), and then paint it later for blend and I’ll add a little traditional wash and such as well. And I get can more textures with the pencils, which is fabulous. I love them
I bought these a long long long while ago and drew a picture for my dad. I was very very proud of it and he liked it. It was for Christmas. Again this is a while ago and sense then I had only used these a bit but I really enjoyed using them and want to use them more in the future.
Love that shade of lipstick on Batman 🤣
I love your videos and you are the best artist ever and you are my inspiration for art and my idol
What i like to do is scribble with the marker on like a plastic lid or sheet and use the deposited colour like regular watercolour paint
Little tip- if you have a surface like an acrylic block (can be bought for putting stamps on for cardmaking and papercraft) or a plastic/ porcelain pallet dish, then you can scribble the marker on the surface and go in with a paintbrush and water to pick up the colour and use it as your paint. As long as it's a non- porous surface it shouldn't absorb the ink and you can use it as a pallet for your colours :)
U drew my two favorite superheroes
The markers would be amazing for solid colour backgrounds
The ,,Tombow" watercolor markers are really nice,I recommend them!
I haven't heard of watercolor pencil nor watercolor marker before. It's so interesting, I hope I could also get to buy those soon.
I like your short medium or method tutorials
this is really cool to know, i have a huge collection of watercolor pencils but not any markers (i love the look of watercolor but don't have the space or time for the real deal)
I like the little blue dots in spider man’s eyes, he looks surprised
I spy with my little eye one of my favorite art creators drawing some of my favorite superheroes
I learn so much from you thank you 🙏
I love water color pencils there one if my favorite to doodle with
The pencils are great for adding detail to your watercolor painting. And using then as your sketching pencil as it will just melt away if you dont want to see the lines.
