Holy crap. Mattman actually killing off ragman without getting any of the black hearts on the first floor is insane. Like almost all of the "solutions" ive seen to this seed involve the black hearts somehow. Turns out it was just a skill diff and that mattman is the GOAT
He also found a natural R Key and just. skipped it 😭
OK I was wondering if this was the same seed I saw before... I watched someone (maybe Another Matt?) do this seed, and he finally beat the first floor using black hearts.
I mean he was confident that he could end the run without it so kind of a power play tbh

Oh yeah, thing about spiders and those big jumping ones, the spiders literally move the same as the big spiders, if you want to control the spiders, be near them, when they’re far they start moving randomly, but they have a radius where they jump at you and they have inertia,so the best is to wave aside, so if you move very slowly beside them, they literally just hop slowly, it’s pretty easy to manipulate them

It’s honestly super refreshing seeing a run where it’s not a rig and you’re actually fighting for your life. Added benefit of seeing a bunch of usually “useless” or poor items having solid value.

the run is harder on normal since the library has satanic bible and normal will give you less rooms so less charges => less black hearts => less damage for ragman. although just choosing to straight up not go to the library at all would be harder (manmatt moment)

its whole lot easier since there is no tears up pill in normal so the dps is lower than the speed ragman regens.

Just noticed an anti-synergy between red stew and Uranus - no damage is regained for killing an enemy, because they turn to ice
you don't get damage for killing enemies, must be thinking of lusty blood. (don't confuse it for bloody lust)
also lusty blood does work with Uranus.
@@Adir-Yosefgetting kills with the red stew damage buff will increase your damage a very small amount amount which extends the duration of the damage buff.
you don't get any on-death effect with uranus, you don't even get score in dailies which is why daily players don't take it
it's crazy how the first floor is so consistently spider themed. like it almost seems like an intentionally designed challenge run. but no, it's just the whims of procedural generation. sometimes a monkey on a typewriter can be a poet
edit: ok wait actually yall are right, the cellar is normally spider themed. i don't think i ever consciously realized that, i kinda just assumed it was basically just a reskin of basement

Fun fact, that trinket is also seeded (just like everything in the game) and it's impossible to proc it for a very long while in this run
It's funny, if you remember NL's "trainwreck" episodes, the first couple of floors have that energy except without anything to help keep you alive, rather than no damage scaling for the late floors

From what I recall, the original seed had 2 bombs instead of the tears up pill. From what ive seen you HAD to hit the head and the body at the same time with both bombs to win. Id assume the repentance+ update jumbled the seed a tiny bit somehow
The seed is supposed to be played on normal not hard, so the layout is different and there is no tears up or bombs in normal.
On 10:28 he already add note that it easier on normal

Yep, that is it, it didn't have any tears up in repentance. the mode played ain't it, there were no tears ups both in hard and normal in repentance, i tried both back then
4:46 "Black Champion Ragman is not that bad" my brother in Isaac, he is the **MAIN FOE** of this challenge.
Unlike normal Ragman, he can heal whenever, whereas normal Ragman can only heal if you kill one of his minions.
Don’t forget he’s capable of overhealing too. Meaning he can have more HP than his HP max.
Edit: I should’ve expected Matt to learn this in the video, but seriously black rag man is terrible in a run like this for that exact reason.

@@cristianarielacosta4144from what i know from other people’s attempts, it’s satanic bible, which typically plays a part in the boss strategy in some way but i guess mattman just didn’t want free damage

The amount of stars to align tp create this run is probably the most impressive thing about it
First off you have your terrible starting stats from natural low Eden numbers which were made worse from possibility the worse experiment treatment possible
Next you have the enemies consisting of the spider over the flies as with that such low damage its extremely difficult to kill the spawners and the spiders, combine that with it mostly being of some of the harder large rooms making it that little more harder
Then you have the items, from starting with the empty jar, the golden cartridge to the little planet and no useful resources is just the salt on the wound
Then its the boss which is a already somewhat harder first floor boss with the spawning and self healing but just due to the absolutely terrible damage if you aren't lucky and skilled you just cant win it because of the self healing
If i remember right the only saving grace for the first floor was the pill and a library though i might be miss remembering it as Matt never mentioned it
Overall great job Matt you really put yourself though such a time consuming endeavor

Hard mode + wrong version
The issue behind this seed was that Ragman would outheal you no matter what you did, so you had to use your black hearts properly with a good amount of luck. Like the tears up pill is massive.
People have already beaten this before so not like it matters that much, but gotta make those vids the easier way I suppose

Satanic bible + less torturous rooms makes it honestly way easier than just beating it with a single tears up pill.
What is better? Doing 160dmg/2 blackhearts (80% of the boss) or a 50% dps boost with 1.53dmg.

Hey Matt. I just really gotta say thanks for this video. I've had a rough day that consisted of a couple of breakdowns. I missed a friend's birthday, and just the entirety of my 24 hours was filled with bad thoughts. But this managed to find my feed as I was going to bed. It really cheered me up, and seeing you beat such a difficult Isaac seed made me lowkey think that I could face the stuff I'm going through right now. Cause like, if Matt could lock in, why couldn't I? This may all sound weird, but genuinely thanks for all the content, it's consistently amazing. As always, GG!

The reason it might be easier on normal is because you're either on Repentance Beta + or some of your visual mods are affecting things. I know that last part sounds stupid but it can actually happen.

I see that. I started today wit tainted Keeper, and defeated mega satan! And with one secret room, I got keepers head with Penny tears and that’s how I unlock end the golden penny!

Huge props for beating this seed completely! I must say though, I attempted this seed myself and it was vastly different from what's on screen in this video. I'm assuming repentance+ and hard mode changed some stuff in the run around but it seems like the seed got easier in repentance+ (tears up pill in first floor and pentagram as the first boss reward as opposed to money=power which wouldn't have given you any benefit at the beginning). Although this was already challenging as is, I'd want to challenge you to complete this entire seed in repentance rather than repentance+ and on normal mode, without mods, as was the original challenge of this seed. Again, very impressive that you got this run done, but I think you can beat the even harder, original version of this seed!

@@omnibeta1876 Kind of. In normal mode, the layout is different. While there are no spiders, so it's easier to beat the main rooms, there's also no tears up pill. Also, the boss room is up instead of down.
@@epicname35 it's not easier here, since he didn't go to the library for satanic bible which makes the boss way easier, he could've, but didn't so this achievement is indeed harder than normal.

IIRC, you’re supposed to play this challenge on normal mode, not hard mode, which makes it harder somehow though I don’t remember why.
you're meant to be using satanic bible (from the library) for your ragman damage (via blackhearts) & normal has smaller floors so less charges of blackhearts and thus a way harder ragman fight, but matt is literally just That Guy
You don't get pentagram I believe, although you do get satanic bible

In normal mode, you’ll have to perfectly use satanic bible from the library, as well as be lucky and hope they don’t heal themselves back

In Hard Mode, you get a tears up pill, where in normal Mode you get two bombs if I recall
But also he overall made it HARDER for himself by not picking up the Satanic Bible at all, which along with the two bombs are supposed to be the key Strat to Killing Rag Mega. So technically he made it HARDER on himself by not having two bombs and Satanic Bible and bombing both his head and body and then using a black heart from Satanic Bible
Which means the HARDEST way to play this god awful seed would be Normal Mode no bombs no Satanic Bible, which just sounds absolutely horrid lol
Once he's rolled the rock to the top, he looks downhill and decides to repeat it, his crusade agains thte god continues. One must imagine Sisyphus happy

Maybe rep+ changed something but in older videos about this seed there wasn't any tears up pill in first floor that made ragman fight way harder
It's likely due to hard mode, also despite being technically the easier mode, it gets cancelled out by the fact that he didn't enter the library for satanic bible which does 80% of the boss if timed with the head for double damage.

I'm confused, how Matt got rotten baby with 2 rotten hearts: in flooded caves 2 he don't have a devil room after killing boss; in challenge room this baby don't spawn; he has on the end of FC2 floor 59 coins, 6 bombs and 2 keys, and on the next floor he has 38 coins, 4 bombs and 3 keys...
So, I will be grateful for explaining me this moment

I dunno if any of them will come close to this though, that Rag Man is the real final boss of this challenge. The Lamb wishes it had what Black Champion Rag Man has when you have no DPS.

I just played this run. Took a few tries to get past first floor but did it with help of necronomicon and empress card from library. Used card to beat ragman. I ended up completely rigging the run. I didn't take the R key, but I got an eternal D6 and rolled necronomicon into Magic Mush which was wild. Same floor played rotten begger in secret room and I rolled bob's head into glitched crown. Got a deal took brimstone and incubus thanks to glitched crown. Went back to the secret room and finished playing blood donation machine and rolled it into rock bottom. It was crazy. That all happened on womb 1. Next floor I got the parasite and when I got to the dark room I used the eden's soul on the deal chests and got spoonbender and two syringes for spun. Got ghost pepper also. Destroyed the Lamb, went to void, and no hit destroyed Delerium. I don't know if I would call this the worst seed but definitely one of the worst starts. The first floor was so annoying and was the hardest part by far but rigged the shit out of it by the end.
