    100% agree...
AMS2 has improved so so so much and keeps improving, people need to give reiza some slack, considering the madness of 2020 they’ve been BUSY! We need to appreciate the developers - sims racing is a NICHE hobby!
Some amazing skins (especially F1 seasons) by talented modders have made it even more fun to play.
I’d love to see more mainstream content (Monza is the obvious future addition?) but I’ve loved experimenting with Brazilian tracks I’ve never heard of before too 😜

I appreciate you deciding to re-review this title, because it's almost unrecognizable from its release state at this point. I was definitely in the disappointed camp when it first came out, but it gradually improved with such steadiness that it ultimately ended up as my second-most-played sim of 2020. There are surely still warts to be removed and kinks to be straightened out, but on the whole I think it's become a fantastic sim that in my opinion makes up for all its shortcomings with a heaping helping of that intangible, indescribable element i can only call "soul". I think AMS2 is a soulful sim that really invites you to have fun in it.

ACC hit lucky with the lockdown, ready to roll as a lot of real life racers came on board at the right time. AMS2 is the only sim that really puts a smile on my face and continually gets updates and improvements. Thanks for re-reviewing Mike! 😎👍

Great vid Mike. Fair and thoughtful as ever. The ACC comparison to start with is very valid, and one people should keep in mind.
On the ffb front, Karsten’s brand new version of the silver raw custom ffb (released today, dubbed “the king”) is pretty astonishingly good! Try it, and then do a whole new review XD
With the custom liveries starting to come in now, we need more race options a la content manager, ie. named drivers, differing skill across different AI. For example the new modern F1 liveries are fantastic, but there’s no way of setting up an “authentic” F1 2020 race yet.

Rome wasn't built in a day. I'm fine leaving AMS 2 sitting on my hard drive and let it soak up the updates. Same as I did with ACC. Main problem I have is there are too many sims already, and not enough free hours in the day to play them.

Ive taken almost a year break from sim racing. The first game I installed when I decided to hop back in was pcars 2 because of the ease of use. Something told to try out Automobilista 2 just yesterday though so I did. I was shocked at the amount of content that had been added. To top it off the AI is pretty good and the driving feel for me is excellent. Hopefully the multiplayer can become more populated. But for just hopping in and doing some quick AI races this is excellent right now.

I must say i have mixed emotions regarding AMS2 and a love/hate relationship with this title. first of all it`s very well optimized and even my mid spec system can handle it well and it`s absolutly beautiful. stable framerate and no hicups even when driving in rainy conditions. The AI is with the latest updates totally racable and it`s possible to actually have close racing lap after lap in offline. The AI responds pretty well now in terms of defend their line and also taking the opportunity to make an attack if you let your guard down. When i first got the game and started a race the recemblance to PCars 2 were striking. Didn`t mind it that much at first and raced GT3 for a couple of weeks. I liked the FFB and physics at first as it felt pretty "forgiving" and maybe easier than what expected car handling wise. but after a while the initial love faded away. I cant get rid of the PCars 2 deja vu feeling when trying different cars, classes ( Yes same engine iknow) Sure they have different acceleration, top speed and grip but they don`t feel different. and even after the updates they all feel "bouncy". Anyway only my humble opinion and i hope that Reiza can sort some of these issues out with updates in the future.

    • @tt350zJason
      @tt350zJason 3 года назад +1

For the bouncy feeling, have u tried turning the springs as soft as u can go and the dampers all the way up? That can help quite a bit.

    • @daniellofgren6577
      @daniellofgren6577 3 года назад +1

@@tt350zJason thanks i will try that- Haven`t yet. i don`t know if "bumpy" is the right way to describe what i mean. it`s more a "clumpsy" delayed sensation through the FFB. Its more of a feeling that i get informstion a micro second later than in other sims and the tire-model and physics let you abuse the living crap out of the car in a way its not meant to be driven. I mean you can take the Formula Reiza on Silverstone push hard on the right hand curb throu maggotts. stamp the brakes and shift down and throw it drifting into becketts. I did a back to back run with both formula cars and Gt cars in AC, ACC(only gt3), RF2 and AMS aswell as AMS2. Besides the obvious differens between each sim. when driving the same track in each sim in various cars there were an absolute difference between the cars in how they handled AND felt but in AMS2 -they all felt like a Dodge RAM 2500. Please dont get me wrong i would so much like AMS2 to be great, but the PCars2 ghoast is still lurking over the physics and i sure hope but dont dare to dream that this is something that is able to be adressed just with updates. but fingers crossed. meanwile it has a dedicated spot on my ssd were it can rest and absorbe updates on a regular basis 🙏🏻

@@daniellofgren6577 good luck! Also try turning the front sway bar way down or all the way down as well. It will also help remove that bouncy feeling as well. Between these tips and raising the differential preload to around 320 I noticed a huge improvement in how I felt about AMS2. Thanks to SOL 2.0 and the new CSP I"m back to playing some AC though!!

Agree. Now on VR I am loving this game so much. The AI are pretty good for my skill level. FFB is good. The only thing that isnt' there is the playerbaes, but then I don't play online due to my distance to most people (middle east) . The game runs flawlessly and I just like it. I'm swapping between this and AC and the Ai there takes me out so often mindlessly if I make a nice pass.

I honestly bought the game at full price with season pass for 2021-2022 and already within the first time I have time to say its one of the most immersive racing titles I have ever experienced. Friendly UI. I just believe in companys like this after investing as much as I have in to iRacing. I want to invest in a game and company that gives their consumer quality content with no subscription. With the VR compatibility and all the other tracks to come with it I would say I got my moneys worth within minutes of playing this with immersion. Ive played alot of sims and I just think like any other game, things can and will get better.

This is such a great video; I'm really glad you did this.
Sims these days evolve SO MUCH month-over-month/year-over-year. It's important to keep up with all the "under the hood" developments.
One lesson that ALL other sims need to learn form AMS2 is online server/lobby config. Setting up a race lobby in AMS2 is such a breeze, such a joy. RF2/ACC are hurting their online adoption due to the headache it is to set up a dedicated server.
Love your videos, Mike! Keep up the great work!

Great Video Mike. Never owned AMS1 and bought into early access for AMS2 due to a conversation you and I had. I was skeptical in the beginning but kept the faith similar to ACC like you mentioned and Reiza has not disappointed. Great re-review, Mike. I agree with all you have said; particularly that I have always enjoyed the Brazilian tracks as they are not offered in any other sim. How many times do we have to race Spa, Monza and Silverstone? Thankfully, the classic versions of those tracks are also available, so kudos to Reiza for offering classic historics such as Kyalami (a track with which I had personal experience). AMS2 has developed immensely over time, and Reiza should be congratulated on their commitment to make AMS2 the one-stop sim experience. My biggest qualm Is that many cars still understeer too much until tyres warm up; but maybe it is due to the fact that I have an older wheel. In AMS2, I have to change the steering to 570 degrees at the start of the race as anything above that is too vague. While the FFB in AMS2 is again awesome, Reiza may be feeling the pressure to cater the physics towards the extremely-vocal upper end market sim racers (direct-drive, etc.), causing a vagueness during the first few laps on older wheels that lack the ability to detect the fine nuances when feedback is much more subtle. Nonetheless, I really enjoy my time with AMS2.

For me, I’m a classic F1 nut and this game’s tire physics I feel is holding it back. The slip of tires feel like you’re either at 70% or 110% or the grip, I can never tell where the limit is not matter how much I drive the car. In my world record run in Monaco it was difficult to perfect a setup because I don’t know if I’m hitting the limit or not. But this game is so damn optimized in frame rate even with the more demanding graphics and I think more sims needs to take note of that

I had to choose between RF2 and PC2 and the interface of RF2 was so terrible that I didn't want to deal with it. I probably should have stuck with it, but I enjoyed the PC2 content on my Xbox and found that with a good custom FFB file it was great fun in VR.

I have been doing a lot of stuff on AMS2 since it's release and I enjoy the most part this title. The grafics, especially the weather effects and the new transfer mode are great. The tracks are modelled realistically too, and a lot of them are laser scanned. The FFB is very detailed and provides a nice immersive feeling of the vehicle you are driving. And as you said in your video the AI have been massively improved as well. There are some things I still don't like, though.. as for example the strange "rear end loose brake effekt" been showed by the F Ultimate cars, that ruins the whole driving experience. The good thing is that Reiza has constantly made really nice progress and developing work. If they continue on like this, I'm sure we will get one of the most enjoyable simracing title we ever had.

The UI is simple amd effecient, the game mode options are well thought out and varied, the VR on Oculus Quest 2 is a dream and the overall racing experince is hugely satisfying. The DLC is expensive ( over $100 AUD ) but if you use it, it is worth it. Yesterday, for the first time, i couldnt get into a multiplayer lobby as it was full ! Excellent overview that totally mirrors my own recent experiences in AMS2. I took a five month break from sim racing until Christmas, so I missed some of the issues with the sim. But reinstalling it was a revelation, compared with my less than positive overall memories of this title. It’s on a different level now and is totally engrossing and satisfying. As you observe, the AI isn’t recognizable from how bad it initially was. It’s really top notch now. One of my tests of any sim is if it keeps me engrossed lap after lap. I find AMS2 does that as well as any other sim now, maybe better in some important respects, including excellent VR. It’s now fulfilling its promise and is refining the Madness engine, matching game play aspects with the already stunning visuals. A great way to start 2021 and it really looks like it could be the year when AMS2 becomes the sim of choice for many, self included.

I think with the latest planned updates the driving experience is starting to have a good foundation.
Where I would like to see more improvement is on the UI front for how we select our AI opponents. Custom championships is great, but if we don't have more control on selecting AI opponents it will still feel limiting. Being restricted to only selecting car groups leads to two issues. The first is you have no control over how the field will be balanced between classes. The second issue is there is still to duplicate car protection, so chances are you can get two identical cars on track and that destroys immersion.
If they were to create a way that gives players the ability to select every AI car on track like R3E does and get rid of the 4 class limit then the offline experience would take a huge step in the right direction.
AMS2 has made a lot of improvement in the last year, but IMO there is still so much that needs to improve for AMS2 to feel like a complete product. It is heading in the right direction, it is my favorite sim to drive right now, but I'm not blind to the issues this title has and what it needs to still improve on.

Nice video Mike. You seem to be in a minority amongst sim racing youtubers, in your appreciation of AMS2. Personally I’m a huge fan of AMS2 and the latest betas take it to a whole new level.
A suggestion for future content: maybe you could do a video on some of the more nuanced things about getting the most from AMS2. I’m sure that many of the people who dismiss it too readily aren’t taking 5 or 10 minutes to figure out what’s going on before they jump to conclusions.
I also think the next upcoming release is going to justify another look at the physics model. The Reiza guys have made some pretty significant breakthroughs on both the driveline physics and the AI behaviour (I guess you are aware of this as a beta tester).
Keep up the good work, you make nice videos and you have a great broadcast voice.

I ordered my first gaming pc instead of upgrading to a PS5. AMS2 and the modding community for AC were some of the reasons. Also bought KartKraft, and I think it would be cool if you did a re-review on that, because it's been two years since your initial review. Now I'm just waiting for my pc :)
AMS2 looks pretty awesome to me. Yeah, they could go more in-depth on several classes, but looking at the variety of tracks and cars, everything looks really good. Coming from PC2, which I really enjoyed, I think AMS2 might be a big step forwards, and the UI looks dope to me. So I think this might be the title that might get new people into sim racing while the more experienced people also will enjoy it. That might become a problem if the rating system doesn't work as good as it should be. I really enjoyed the way this is done in GT Sport, and I think that GT Sport really is the benchmark when it comes to user friendly online racing. I think AMS2 has the potential to become my main choice.
I'd love them to support Formula E though and add a huge amount of original FE circuits (or other circuits that might fit it). I know there's rFactor 2, mods for AC and PC3 (which is my first joice when it comes to arcade racers that are easy to jump into), but I'd really love to see some support for it in the next-gen sims like AMS2. And I think e-cars might be kind of a new and cool experience, thinking of how they behave and how they require different strategies throughout races.

AMS2, to me, feels like what PCARS was supposed to be. A fun, multi-discipline, sandbox sim-racing, with consistent physics, FFB, tire model and good variety.
It's an absolute blast to be able to set up races with a lot of different types of cars, on different typea of tracks - even racing on completely unreal scenarios like GT1 cars on Kart tracks - and still feel consistent and competent.
Of course it won't have the precision and focus of ACC, the super detailed physics and FFB of rFactor 2 or the modding extent of Original AC.
But all these games I'e mentioned have some drawbacks as well: ACC being super taxing on the computer and being ONLY GT3/4, rFactor 2 having nothing else competent besides physics and FFB, AC being as good as your mod catalogue is (vanilla AC is unbearable nowadays). Which puts AMS2 in an actual great position amongst these other titles, having its own strengths and drawbacks - but offering SOMETHING at the end of the day.

I think your missing the point Mike . The frustration coming from a lot of Die Hard Reiza Backers , comes from a plethora of reasons . Reiza took a flawed RFactor 1 engine and worked wonders with it , and in doing so created a consumer loyalty that I really don't think they realized it's significant roll . They approached their community fan base and through a marvelous pitch at them in the form of an early Backer campaign which asked for much needed $$ to get the ball rolling on Reiza's lastest and best Simulation ever. Ten's of thousands dollars were then poured into the future development of a simulation that all were expecting to be something very special given their previous work AMS 1
They unilaterally chose to move to the Madness engine and let their loyal consumers know of the decision afterwards. People realize this is well within their rights but when you tell them it's " Pretty Much Unmodable " and then produce a Simcade version of it's predecessor with inferior Physics , Force Feed Back , Artificial Intelligence and Modability there's going to be some very upset people. The One thing that AMS 2 has that is better than AMS 1 is the Graphics and they only go so far Mike . Reiza has a mountain to climb with this new game. Giving us more content ( cars , tracks ) is not what is needed to get Automobilista 2 off the ground. Fix the glaring issues that have come over with Madness Engine and bring back the Simulator that the racing community ( your loyal consumers ) know you are capable of .

Omg so true. Couldn't have said it better. The gt3 content is purely a cash grab and to try and get more players to join but it simply hasn't worked lol. As much as they are updating it I think it was released to early. So when they 'fix' something some racers give it praise but the reality is it should've been complete with little to no bugs before its full release of which it wasn't but a buggy and broken pile of poop.

Hi Mike ...AMS-2 certainly does offer a lot. I'm new to Sim racing ...after one year I was addicted & built a wild system to accommodate a triple screen setup. ACC is my favorite of the few I own. AMS-2 was downloaded for Christmas & I really like it ...it feels "smooth"??? I have one issue though ...I've had the Porsche GT3 off the track & in the grass ...the return to the track was uneventful & very unrealistic in my humble opinion. I did it several times & think that leaving the track is far too forgiving. I did some stunts with the Porsche that only a 4 wheeler Jeep would survive ...lol & I drive with ALL assistance switched "OFF". Have you noticed this?
Other than missing my favorite tracks ...(like the Green Hell ...lol) ...it is a very nice Sim with the best weather dynamics.
I'm no fan of racing in the rain ...but AMS-2 does rain better than the others ...in my humble opinion again! & ...The "Go-Karts" are more fun than any other racing ...lol.
ACC is still my favorite. I hope you had a great Christmas ...
Where in Canada are you Mike? ...I'm stuck in New Brunswick ...eeek!!!!

One thing about AMS2 - it looks FAR better when you're playing it than it does on RUclips. It's a trait it shares with PC2. For some reason other sims like AC translate better to RUclips.
I still think there's a lot of unrealized potential in PC2. I'd love to see a bigger road car roster, since that's something that was great in PC2. I'd also love to see the old sh*tbox Brazilian racers get some more love in AMS2, since they were some of the most fun in AMS1, but they haven't captured the same magic in AMS2.

Not much has changed.. They have improved it a little, but most of the work they done was releasing DLCs and then fixing, patching. tweaking the DLCs. Also I think AMS2 just realized that all the DLCs are just putting the (almost nothing) player base behind multiple track/paywalls. And we all know how that works out.. This just my 2c, Mike seems to enjoy it. But for me it has a long way to go and is very much stll in a working early access state.

I disagree your negative point "some car class aren't well populated".
I'm not a racing pro, but my favs are GP 3&4, Race '07, RBR. Tried ACC a lot of time. GT makes me a lot of fun - Easy to play or jump in, take a ride, but nothing to intensify. Two month ago I tried after a long time of race sim frustration AMS2 and I was *WOOOOOW!*. Deleted ACC instantly. So much fun with unknown cars and tracks. Drove F1 or GT3 Cars since I was 12 years old. Spa, Hockenheim, Silverstone? I'll drive it backwards and mirrored when I playing Bingo with my grandparents. I'm not looking for the 30 years old standards. Realism? How to define when 95% of sim race gamers doesn't drive a real racing car which they prefer to drive in games to be able to compare it? Feedback has to fit. It have to feel right and comprehensible. AMS2 does it so far. Waiting for next updates, goes excellent.
Now leave me alone :D I want to drive Brasilian V8 Super Cars ...so slippy, so funny, but gentle with a big foot in sports socks on the gas paddle *VROOOOOM*

So far my experience has been really good although the limited amounts of cars right now kinda sucks the game as a whole is a lot of fun. I find the sounds and the FFB to be one of the best in my opinion. They have a lot of work to do in the future to iron out the kinks and give us more options. But as of today I highly recommend buying it and adding it to your collection or using it as a starting point.

There are a couple of “overall game level” items that I hope don’t fall by the wayside in the long term development even if it takes another 12+ months to address them. 1) We really should have complete timing info within the game itself: all laps driven with sector times for each lap. 2) The replay system. Its usability is just so poor compared to the quality of the rest of the game that it sometimes feels like it’s dragging the whole title down with it.
Oh, and please Reiza, do listen to your user community and decrease the drones and helicopters! It’s the one thing they seem to be doing that’s expressly opposite of what people are saying they want.

I've just bought it in the Steam sale for about £13ish. Best value for money sim I've bought in terms of different content. Yes, for GT3 racing ACC is the absolute king, but I really like AMS2 so far. The online servers aren't the busiest but they're not dead either.
It looks great, sounds good and has a wide range of good quality tracks and cars. This is from someone who used AMS1 a little bit but not a lot. The only criticism I have is that using my G920 the FFB makes the cars feel as if they're 'bouncing' along the road. It could be me and my default settings, but it just doesn't feel right to me somehow.

I think overall AMS2 is a very good title. I'd like to see Reiza Studios hold on the current number of models and optimize them for proper physics as some cars feel great, while others are just really bad. Overall there is already more than enough cars and tracks to satisfy everyone's need. As to the shaking in car...my issue is with what appears as a lack of 'mass'. If you ride a big curb or go off track, the car will just wildly bounce up and down way too rapidly as in no dampening to the chassis. It is yet early in development with other more pressing things needed, so I have lived with it for now.

I love AMS2, it is right up there with RF2 in terms of #rf2 things and #AMS2 things. It has its quirks for sure but the pros are so good you kinda just ignore the cons. Every title has something that it does better than others and AMS2 is really inline with that thinking. Get in a go online, get in a go VR and performance that makes ACC look positively draconian. For what it does well AMS2 is great and with it also being one of the most updated platforms on the market its exciting to see how it will develop given as you note ACC was essentially an uitter shit show not all that long ago and is now one of the best platforms a simracer can buy.

Agree mostly, but feel that ffb needs more work and cars can be hit and miss. Some are great such as the GT1, but some others, not so much. The use of a custom ffb file can really up the feel of the sim though, so I know there is a future for this sim. I'm not tied to any particular sim so will give each one a good try and I will race in different ones on different days depending upon how I feel. AMS2 has a good future, in my opinion, if they can iron out some of the wrinkles that put people off initially. Focusing on how each car drives and feels is probably more important than lots of content.
