I did my own comparison after having some frustration with ACC. I think ultimately I prefer AMS 2.
I prefer AMS 2 ffb and tire model - they both have their quirks and but I feel like AMS 2 has a little more play and gives you more room to drive the cars hard. It’s also got better weather, VR, and more diverse content.
I play more for immersion than competition so multiplayer is less important to me than the ability to quickly create novel and immersive experiences.
They’re both well worth a buy and each does some things better than the other - it just depends on what your priorities are.

A fair-minded and detailed comparison. Good work, Mike. ACC's laser-scanned tracks look second-to-none, although a hefty PC is needed for those lovely graphics. The sim overall shows what can be done when a developer focuses on a specific motorsport series. As AMS2 continues to improve, its wide-ranging content should attract those who want more variety. The two sims make a good pairing.

This video was a bit odd to me. Maybe its just your title. It should be "Which One Should I Buy for GT content?" - Competizione vs Automobilista 2.
This video was almost entirely about GT and had barely anything to do with AMS vs ACC.
AMS - has insane amount more cars and tracks, graphics are comparable but the performance of ACC is horrible, so AMS wins as getting ultra with 120fps is easy and VR work way better. Day night is amazing. free cars coming every month as well.
ACC- better FFB and sense of feel, online ranked racing with an entire penalty system. Better depth and quality for the GT classes it has.
As a game if you arent doing ranked GT multiplayer, AMS2 is clearly better. Offers way more for the buck. But yeah if all you care about is GT then easily ACC wins.

ACC is entirely focused on GT cars. If you want variety of cars you buy the normal AC or any other sim. ACC does only GT and does it very well. It would be easier just to say:
      - If you're only interested in GT racing and want a structured online ranking system, play ACC
      - If you want more variety, play AMS 2 or any other sim

  • @dklassen
    @dklassen 3 года назад +4

I generally agree. My problem with ACC is it's so GPU intensive. I have to really turn it down to get decedent frame rates and trying to race with more than 10 cars on the track simply kill my FPS. AMS2 preforms much much better in that department. Admittedly I currently have a RX 5500 XT which I will upgrade some year in the future when GPU's are actually available. The big downside in AMS2 is car and track handling. To me it's just bad. It's ok in practice and race but switch over to time trial and everything changes. It's junk. I pretty much have all the major sims, they really each have their own positives. RF2 is still my go to.

AMS2 does not even hold a candle to ACC, it is not even in the same league, and likely never will be.
Anyone considering AMS2 would do good to look at rF2 instead, it has just as many cars, more tracks, a hell of a lot of free content, and just about as many people playing online. Even Race Room racing experience is better in many ways than AMS2.
No idea why they added GT3s in AMS2, massive amount of content already, and still far too many glitches to be concerning themselves with trying to compete against a sim they will never even touch.
Before anyone wants to jump in and say something stupid like "but AMS2 has not been out long, takes time to fix the bugs you know...." Sure it does, no doubt, but this has been out for close to 12 months now, these guys didn't start from scratch with this, and they still to this day seem to be prioritising pointless additional content over fixing the issues or even adding a useful ranking system. As a result, majority of the very few available online races are just a total mess.
If they spent as much time fixing the glitches and terrible net coding in AMS2 it might just be a great sim, but so far they don't seem to be doing much with it, and consequently hardly anyone seems to be playing it online.
The VR might run better in AMS2, but the visuals are pretty ordinary in comparison, and if you set it up correctly in ACC there is nothing wrong with how it runs, at least on a Pimax 8K X or Pimax 5K+, (using a 2080Ti and a 2060 respectively), no idea how other headsets hold up, but given that they all have significantly less FOV and hence, a lot lower per eye resolution, i can't imagine the other headsets would be any worse for overall performance.

Just look at bland track textures in AMS2 as if created using generic procedural texture or something like race track builder. ACC clearly shows a separation of the racing line from the less used trackside. IMO this variation in roughness adds a lot to the feeling of speed vs floating. Great job with a thoughtful video as usual with Mike... from my side ACC is also missing different track layouts. Yes, I know the championships that ACC simulates only use those particular layouts, but they are missing a trick that would add more variety to those that just to play for fun. I love Donington, but prefer the National layout, it’s more natural and flowing without the Melbourne loop. Donington exists in both sims (as a £12 DLC for ACC, free with AMS2), but only AMS has the National layout.

One has a horribly unfitting graphics engine and weirdest over-the-top FFB (yet a solid physics engine), the other a wanna-be-believable FFB with a crappy underlying physics engine (yes, I can drift to a turn with a F3 like in a rally car on gravel, but do I want that??).

The answer is simple: rFactor 2 :-D
Now seriously, I have tried and tried and tried and I simply can't get any decent driving feel out of AMS2. None whatsoever, even with custom FFB files... The cars seem to have no rolling feel (inertia is poorly simulated) and they move unnaturally, with an exaggerated yaw movement as their only point of contact with the track was the dead centre of the car and not the 4 points where the wheels are.
On the other hand, ACC is indeed limited in its contents, but on the GT level, it's simply a no contest as it is the most accurate and lifelike GT experience in the market.
Now... back to rFactor2: if you are able to overcome the inconveniences which this game has - committing to playing it is like being in love with your better half and have the patience to put up with some tantrums - then you will have BOTH an incredible driving feel (second to none) and loads of varied content.

I would love to like ACC more, because the overall package is amazing and I love GT3. But I really dont like the FFB in ACC and how the Cars feel, and i tried so many settings or maybe its just me driving bad and getting frustrated, idk. I m about 80 hrs in the game now but i think it took me around 20 hrs to get a 1:51:990 at Monza with the Lexus. In AMS2 after about 10 mins setting up the FFB the Cars feel amazing and I think it took me around 5 Laps to get a low 49 at Monza with the McLaren 720S. I dont even know if its ok to compare the lap times in the 2 sims. Maybe ACC is just too hard for me so right now i would give my thumbs up to AMS2.

      @pauloeb 3 года назад +1

Not necessarily, ACC (Assetto Corsa Competizione) and AMS2 (Automobilista 2) are both very good sims. ACC is GT3/GT4 focused, while AMS2 is similar to AC ("normal" Assetto Corsa) in content. If VR is really important to you, AMS2 is more VR friendly than ACC. If multiplayer is very important to you, ACC is more popular. If you can, I would recommend you to get them both. My personal choice is AMS2 because I mainly race in VR and I really like some of its other racing classes.

Acc FFB for the t300 is so trash that rfactor 2 is the way to go. I have never driven ab2 so I can't attest to that but I try over and over to like acc and I just can't. The cars don't feel right on the limit and just are awkward with rf2 you can send it go hoonigan sideways and be comfortable getting it back. With acc if the back starts to go its like I racing its see ya lataaaa

I like ACC and its the way to go if you want the full GT3 experience, unfortunately my PC isn't the greatest so I have to run much lower graphic settings for it to run smoothly whereas I have no problem running AMS2 on max.
On the whole I think ACC is a more consistent experience most cars are pretty good fun to drive whereas there are a lot of cars in AMS2 I don't really enjoy that said however with the right car/track combo AMS2 can be a hugely more enjoyable game, I could drive the Porsche GT3, Copa Montana, GT1s or the Brazilian stock cars in that game for hours against AI and not get bored and as soon as the custom championships get implemented I think it will be the one I spend the most time in.

ACC looks like made of clay and stutters on every graphics setup. The best one for PC is still the first AC, not competizione. Automobilista as a simulator reminds me of Project Cars, so more arcade-ish, but just like PC it runs smooth on my PC and ACC doesn't. Like I already said unreal engine is pretty strange at least for racing games, everything looks like clay and it stutters. Fix this and ACC will be the best (that is if you only like 1 type of cars).

AMS2 handling and physics are a little funky and out of whack. Only a few cars that they have dialed in so far. They are fighting a battle against a lousy sim racing engine. The sim still needs a lot of work, but the future looks bright!

    • @TheKwod

No, they market a sim with 50 cars or whatever and only fix half, they continue this with dlc and we have to pay to play down the line.
It could be 12 months or more before most cars drive properly and that assumes they fix the exaggerated throttle response that ruins some cars.

Modded AC is still the best bang for the buck in my opinion.
While I enjoy and respect class-specific sims, ACC's lack of content is not appealing to many and the team behind Automobilista 2 have to find their way around many issues and limitations from the PCARS engine it uses thanks to SMS's habit of leaving every project unpolished and unfinished.
For that reason I have refused to purchase anything SMS/WMD related again, Automobilista 2 included. SMS have dropped support for what could have been some of the best games and simulations over many years to come shortly after release too many times to be trusted.

I never managed to get ACC FFB to work I dont mean its not good its totally undriveable, its a game I own, but never play. The sound I think is awful, sounds like Ive been rear ended by a truck everytime I change gear and unless youve got a top end PC, the graphics arent great. and I can imagine, you quickly get bored of limited tracks and cars. RF2 is much better although gets quite costly buying DLCs etc and again you need a decent PC to run it. I would recomend Assetto Corsa. I just hope Assetto Corsa 2, is not based on ACC and is an upgraded AC. it runs great on most PCs and if you can think of a car track combo, its available, most of the time for free
