Stomach Flu: The Stomach Bug

- Viral gastroenteritis is an inflammation of the stomach and intestines caused by a viral infection. Its symptoms develop within 24 to 48 hours after exposure to virus.
If anyone has the stomach bug, he or she may have one or more symptoms, specifically, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. After several days with the stomach bug, dehydration may be developed which may become a serious concern so; the symptoms of dehydration should be watched and medical attention should be sought. That's why, it is critical to get plenty of fluids including fluid replacement solutions with electrolytes along with water to restore the body’s hydration balance.
This was one of the worst illnesses I've ever experienced. Vomiting while having diarrhea and vice verse at the same time, you don't know what to do. Absolutely miserable
Hope you are doing well now.
I have one right now bro😢
We wish you a speedy recovery.
Unluckily, when stomach flu hits, it hits hard. It's awful that it has no cure and it has to run its course.
Same. I’m finally feeling better after a week of pure misery. Thought I was gonna die 😅
Feeling healthy is such a gift after going through feeling sick. I am in the recovery phase now after having watery stool (90% water) for 2 days straight. I’m still feeling a bit of nausea and the thought of food is the farthest thing from my mind despite my stomach grumbling. 🤒🤢😵🤕😷
We wish you a speedy recovery
Same started today
You'll be feeling healthy and strong again soon.

I got a stomach bug this morning while travelling in Turkey, it sucks. This video has been really helpful, so thank you!
We are glad to know that it helped you.
I have a stomach bug for last 7 days what home remedies should i try
I remember having gastro a week before traveling and it made me so miserable and was one of the worst experiences ever. Feeling so weak and nauseous constantly and not being able to leave the bathroom was unbearable.
If anyone have chills, fever, sore throat, stomach cramps or diarrhea, one should postpone the flight. If you feel healthy otherwise, it is safe to travel.
At some point while traveling, people can pick up a stomach bug. It is most commonly contracted via contaminated food and water. So, it is vital to make sure that you only drink bottled or fully sterilized water, eat properly cooked and piping hot food, avoid eating cold food including salad and fruits that you can't peel yourself, remove any ice in the drink as water may not be fully sterilized, wash your hands before you eat and use an alcohol based hand gel to ensure that all the harmful bacteria are eliminated.
In most cases, viral gastroenteritis is not harmful. However, it can become dangerous if it leads to dehydration.
I hate how this the most painful sickness and the only thing you can do is wait it and suffer through it
We hope each day brings you closer to a speedy recovery. Get well soon.
hey, it's been 20 days since my main symptoms like diarrhoea had gone, but my bloated stomach is not going away since 20 days. What should I do?
Im pretty sure i have this disease and in only two days a have two exams. What a great timing!
We wish you a speedy recovery and good luck with your exams.
I have had the stomach bug for 5 days now. I went to urgent care yesterday and they put me on a 2 day liquid diet. This is the worst thing I’ve had. I’m so hungry 😞 I will be going 7 days without food. Wish me luck!
The cycle of Pain:
Throwing up
Having no energy
Eating to have more energy
Repeat
Get well soon! May good health envelop you.
Just got through this 24hr bug. This one was unusually more painful than other stomach bugs in the past. My wife now has it and I just gave her emetrol for the nausea! Hoping it works to subside some of the pain and discomfort
Sending you caring thoughts and healing vibes
I've recently got the stomach flu or stomach bug. On Friday 10th, around 3-6 AM. I was feeling very thirsty, so I put a water bottle inside a freezer to make it cold since I like my waters like that, and when it was at the perfect temperature for me, I took it out, and I started guzzling down the water because I was super thirsty. Seconds later, I had a feeling between my stomach and my chest, I forced it out because I usually get burps, sadly that wasn't what I got in return. (Or what I expected) I started vomiting, and tried to hold it in, but it kept coming out which forced out of my mouth, I called my mom for help since I'm only 12 and didn't have any type of experience and didn't know it was a thing. I tried getting into the bathroom, but I didn't make it in time. Ever since that happened to me, I started feeling weak, and parts on my body started to hurt. I didn't attend school that morning because the last time I vomited I was 7, and between those ages. They didn't feel the same. So, I stayed home and laid down in my bedroom for the rest of the day. I had trouble getting up, and this weekend I was going to my aunt/uncles house to spend time with my male cousin (same age as me). Those plans were canceled. Maybe you guys can give me some advice on what to do, it would be helpful...
Make sure you get plenty of rest because diarrhea and dehydration may make one tired and weak. Your body needs rest to fight off the infection.
It is advised to stay home for 24 to 48 hrs after your symptoms have gone away to make sure that you are symptom free.
To prevent the spread of infection to others, isolate yourself and wash your hands frequently.
Don't eat hard-to-digest, spicy, acidic, cheesy and greasy foods. Don't force yourself to eat if you don’t feel like eating. Try to focus on keeping yourself hydrated. Sip on clear fluids. Water is the best option. But if you can't tolerate liquids, you can try chewing on ice chips.
Don't take anti-diarrheal medication unless advised by the doctor as it can make harder for your body to get rid of virus.
You will likely be able to fight off this virus without seeing a healthcare provider. Do seek medical care right away if your symptoms fail to improve or resolve over time.
Take care.
I relate to this so much

the thought of food is making me nauseous.
Unfortunately, nausea occurs when you are sick to your stomach.

I have emethophobia now because of that, and i have panic attacks also almost every day, i'm kinda feeling better everyday and i hope i will stop having those attacks

In 2020, Back in April 21st, I had a stomach bug once and i've NEVER told my friends this at all while I was on Roblox. I was only 11 when this happened! 😭
I can’t stop throwing up. Can’t keep anything down. I layed on the bathroom floor as it was close. I’m single. No one to help take care of me.
Sorry to hear what you are feeling. Hope you feel better soon.
So sick it messed me up physically and mentally I know what last stages of cancer or dying now feels like. I wanted to die because this was the worst thing I’ve ever gone through. I’m so thankful I feel better I want to be healthy now I will never take health for granted again

Thanks alot 😊 Hope she'll get well soon.
I’m currently going through this right now and I am miserable. Worst that my diabetes. 😢
Viral infections such as stomach flu usually make diabetes more difficult to control as your blood glucose levels will rise higher than usual when the body tries to fight off the virus.
If such is a case, you should continue taking your insulin or diabetic pills as usual and keep track of your blood glucose test results.
Drink plenty of fluids to prevent dehydration. But you need to take small portions of sweet beverages to prevent your blood glucose from getting too high.
If you are losing your weight without trying, it could be a sign of high blood glucose levels. So you need to weigh yourself every day.
Keep monitoring your body temperature because fever can be a sign of infection.
We wish you a speedy recovery.
I am getting over this now. I was in the bed almost all afternoon yesterday after throwing up and diarrhea all morning. I threw up all my food from previous day and once that was gone, I started puking water and diarrhea. I had no idea this was highly contagious, I was cleaning up my son's puke not realizing I was exposing myself. The "knot in your stomach " feeling keeps you down and out. And the sight of food made me frown. The smell of food unbearable. I almost threw up after glancing at a bag of sunflower seeds. I threw up so hard, that my upper jaw line is sore, (the next day,) an the muscles in my chest are a little sore still. (I have a fear of vomiting which probably made it worse). I went to sleep last night with some cold chills down my legs. Woke up feeling alot better. (Knot in my stomach gone). But I only ate once today. Glad it's pretty much over!!!!!
The virus can survive on hard surfaces for a number of days and can remain in the stool for up to two weeks or more after recovery.
Likewise, the infected person's vomit is likely to be infectious to anyone who comes in contact with the person's vomit.
It is likely that virus will still be present, if an appropriate disinfectant is not used to clean the contaminated areas.
Rubber or disposable gloves should be put on, before wiping the area with a paper towel. The area should then be disinfected using bleach-based household product according to the directions indicated on the label. The area then should be cleaned using soap and hot water.
UGHHH I HATE THIS even tho I haven’t had it since I was like 9 years old i just pray i never get this again and I was close to getting it when there is an outbreak in like April last year I tried so hard to avoid getting sick that I didn’t eat for 2 days .
I got the worst stomach flu of my life on a plane ride to san diego. I spent the entire flight in the bathroom. I was on my way to marine corps boot camp, lol.
We wish you a speedy recovery.
I was in the hospital by morning when I had this. I projectile vomited all night. Every ounce of fluid my body had and I cramped up to the point where I couldn't breathe because of it. I was grateful for the Zofran I prescribed though for the nausea!
There is no specific medication to treat stomach flu.
Zofran with the generic name Ondansetron, can be used in emergency situations to treat severe nausea and vomiting. In this way, it helps to prevent dehydration that sometimes requires treatment with IV fluids.
@@equationbypharmacistmoms6802 Yes that was my exact issue. You are correct.
Had this at the beginning of the week I threw up 15 times and I still am having diarrhea
Hope you are doing well now
I had stomach flu 4 days ago and I still feel extremely weak and tired is it normal?
Recovery from stomach flu varies from person to person. Dehydration due to stomach bug can leave an individual extremely weak. Stay hydrated to stay active and bounce back.
Give your body rest and try to get the amount of sleep recommended according to your age. Cut back on your normal activity.
As there is no clear timeline, one may take a month or two to return to normal activities.
In fact, the fatigue goes away when the body has fight off infection. But post viral fatigue can occur if the fatigue lasts for a longer period of time after the infection has gone.
You need to be very careful if you visit countries where nobody washes their hands..........like Cambodia, India, Vietnam and the UK !!!!!
Handwashing facilities are poor or may not be available while traveling. Therefore, it is advisable to carry hand sanitization gels and wipes with you all the time.
Thanx!
You're welcome 🙂
I got most of the symptoms besides the baby ones also does cold and flu pills help?
Although it is called stomach flu, it is not caused by influenza viruses. Rather it is caused by a variety of viruses including rotaviruses and novoviruses. So, flu shots and cold medications don't provide protection against it.
I caught it twice now! I stay home and clean too! 😢
Get well soon
i have this right now i took tiny sips of water i threw up 3 hours ago and my lips are dry
Because of throwing up, one can become dehydrated. Watch signs for dehydration such as dry mouth, dry skin, being really thirsty, and feeling light-headed. Consult with a physician if you have any of these symptoms.
I woke up after about 2 hours of sleep and had the chills and body aches. Even my face was super cool as well while bundled up underneath2 blankets. Didnt help having the fan on. Worst feeling I've ever had with the stomach bug. 🤒🥶

I got stomach infection 8 days ago. But I am still having bloated stomach. How much time will bloating take to go?? Plz tell
Stomach flu rarely lasts longer than 1 to 3 days. However, it may take 1 to 2 weeks before the bowel habits are completely back to normal.
Approxiamtely 25 percent of patients who get stomach flu, have bloating even after the illness clears. Bloating can occur because of bacterial overgrowth that occur in small intestine as a result of infection, called Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth (SIBO). It can disrupt the defense mechanism and can be treated with antibiotics and other approaches.

This is nikki anderson I been married for nineteen years
This illness sucks. i don’t wish it upon my worsts enemy. I’ve been puking all night and i seem not to be the only one. It’s going around a lot
update: i’ve been eating light cucumbers and watermelon and i can seem to keep it down also it’s a great rehydrate source
In stomach flu, it is tough to keep anything down, but replenishing fluids is the top priority. In such a case, beverages aren't the only option left. Fruits containing highest amount of water, such as watermelon, cucumber, strawberries, cantaloupe, and peaches can be taken. They are also the good source of vitamins and minerals.
Cooked fruits may be easier on stomach than raw fruits as many whole fruits are difficult to digest because of high fiber content.
i got it and i cannot pee at all
Diarrhea and vomiting associated with stomach flu can dehydrate an individual. So one should keep himself hydrated by drinking plenty of clear fluids. Start with small sips and gradually drink more until the pee has pale yellow color.
You can take oral hydrating solutions or sachets that could be mixed with water to replace the lost sugar, salts and minerals.
If the symptoms do not improve, it could be the sign of severe dehydration that requires urgent medical help.
We wish you a speedy recovery.
Just got a bug on a trip to Wichita...aghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
Unfortunately, novovirus infection is a risk worldwide and it can be reduced by practicing strict food and water hygiene as well as personal hygiene.
How long does the stomach flu last ?
The symptoms of stomach flu develop within 24 to 48 hours after exposure to virus. Several cases of stomach bug recover within the couple of days after that.
However, the bug can stay in the stool for upto 2 weeks and an individual is typically most contagious when he or she is feeling the worst and few days afterwards.
@@equationbypharmacistmoms6802 I have had the stomach flu over a week now and I actually went to the hospital cause I felt I wasn’t getting any better but hopefully it goes away
Symptoms of stomach flu often settle in few days but severe cases require treatment in a hospital. Dehydration is the big concern for people with stomach flu. So the treatment focuses on preventing dehydration as well as relieving the symptoms.
Hospital admission is also needed if complications develop.
Have a speedy recovery.

@@yashiashi4423 Go to the doctors wtf
@@yashiashi4423 drink ginger tea! & Lots of water I've been doing.
Many people experience bloating after having stomach flu because of bacterial overgrowth in small intestine.
Consuming ginger such as drinking ginger tea and ginger ale, taking ginger capsules or powder and chewing a piece of ginger can offer some relief from bloating.
Drinking mint tea can also help to treat gas and bloating.

You can gradually incorporate bland and easy to digest foods into your diet. Bananas are among the good first choices.
