    The first free fix on this darn X3! I’ve had my 2006 X3 for 4 years and assumed a sweaty smelly man lived in it before me, but with the Seattle rain I finally discovered the smell was clogged drains. I don’t think they’ve ever been cleared (sunroof and corresponding drains under the car). A long zip tie did the trick to clear the holes on top and gunk/sludge on the bottom. No more wet floors! Thank you :)

    Just press hard all around the door panel, that should fix the water seal inside that has detached from sticking to the door frame. I did that when my rear left door on my 5 series was leaking causing the rear floor all wet from rain water. That fixed the issue without taking the panel off.

      Was that on one side. I have it front drivers footwell and drivers side rear footwell.
      No watermarks on door sill as in video so not sure it’s vapour barrier. Sat in car and hose pipes it no water ingress? Where could it be from?

    Yes good advice in video but try this first. On old cars the rubber seal around the glass sunroof can perish slightly allowing water to seep in and collect in the drain basin sitting underneath the perimeter of the sunroof housing.
    I had an internal floor saturation problem and brought car to main dealer. All they wanted was to charge me big bucks to have a look. They gave me the impression they had fixed the issue but recently in heavy rain the carpeting became saturated again. I discovered that the front left drainage duct of the sunroof basin was blocked because there was pooling in that corner when the car was parked on a slope in that direction when the leak occurred. Normally the car is parked outside house with slope in direction of right side duct and so it is not usually a problem. The front ducts have a right angle bend and it's difficult to feed a flexy wire into the openings. Having thought about how to clear the blockage an idea came to me to use air pressure to release it. I bought a bicycle tube with a compatible car tube valve and cut the valve off leaving a rubber margin circle of about an inch diameter. I went to the local service station and used the tyre inflator pump to push air through the duct using the compatible bicycle tube valve as a facing against the duct entrance hole to allow air to flow through it. I tested the process by pouring water into the sunroof basin and water flowed down the duct with the evidence of water on the ground underneath the car. This is the best way to ensure these ducts are serviceable and can be done so easily without any significant cost. It's no harm to push air through all 4 corner ducts to avoid potential blockage on an annual basis particularly if prone to debris collection while sunroof open.

      I’ve got leaks in footwells drivers side. No sunroof but how can it be vapour barrier. Not wet under door panel. No water marks via sill as he shows. No water marks or wetness above pedals so does that mean it’s not under brake booster bin via wind screen /bonnet

    Please explain how the door vapor barrier deflect water when its about 2-3" from the edge of the door? doesn't the door have holes at the bottom of the door? Does the water travel within the door card to leak inside? I am having the same issue with my E61 rear passenger floor being wet but can't seem to understand how that vapor barrier has anything to do with it leaking inside?

    • @JohnSmith-oj3uu
      @JohnSmith-oj3uu 4 года назад

      Yes, it does - It slides down the vapor barrier. On the way to the bottom. If the vapor barrier is not attached some will come inside as the rain travel to the bottom of the door.

    • @eddy45686
      @eddy45686 Год назад

      @@JohnSmith-oj3uu So then you would see seepage where the door card edge meets the metal door panel. This doesn’t happen and no evidence of water marks yet carpets are wet and so are sides leading to floor. It’s as if water jumps onto the floor.

    Great video.
    I just discovered on my F10 BMW that the rear carpets are wet just like the way you advertise in your video I'm pretty sure I have to get the seals reglued as you mentioned a lot of videos are saying the same thing my question to you sir is what about the water that's already there should we just dry it out or is there anything that we need to worry about with the existing water that's in the carpets already?

    • @JohnSmith-oj3uu
      @JohnSmith-oj3uu 4 года назад

      I had the same thing depending on the amount of water you may need to check under the carpet. I had a slight odder, so I pulled up the rug, I found standing water. But the top was dry. X3 has a thick pad on the back of the carpet. Once the water gets past that pad, you will need to dry under the carpet as well. Good thing you can get under the carpet without to much trouble in the rear seat area. On the seal, I used 3m 4200. I hope I do not have to get that panel ever!
      ** I have not found a place to buy a full carpet set yet for the X3 does anyone?

    Great vid. So the problem I am having on my 2013 BMW X5 is it gets wet behind the driver side seat on the floor. I had sunroof drains cleared and car was out in the rain after they did it and it was fine. But on the next downpour the rear floor was soaked again. I don’t get the sand like he shows it clean. And the car was parked when it got wet. Could it be rear sunroof drains that separated? Any advice would help thanks.
