    This looks great. Also I really appreciate the honesty, I've encountered this myself when following other ikea hacks or general DIY project videos. So much is often left out.

    Someday, maybe in 500 years, they will build houses that actually include an efficient, well designed and attractive shoe storage solution. Maybe. Meanwhile, I will do this. Great vid.

    Well done!👍 Looks good! If you realy do want it to stand alone, remove the backcover of the Ivar cabinet en apply a wooden back, about the same ammount as the front in weight, that should help....

    I have looked hours of diy(ikea) videos and yours is the first and only that is really honest. I have a similar problem in the hallway and your video has pushed me to take on this kind of project. Great video 👌

      Hi! Thank you so much for your comment!
      You should definitely give it a go, I love getting to the end and having achieved something for myself, even if the middle can be a bit chaotic!

    Looks great Leanne. Appreciate your honesty too. I have a large Ikea bookshelf I'm trying to determine how best to put doors on without having to attach it to a wall. I've decided to use a light weight front with framing on the inside to support hardware. I've also decided to do doors on both sides with magnetic closures. This way I can decide if I want it to sit taller (4 shelves up, 3 across) or longer (3 up, 4 across). This way the weight on either side will be much the same to support it. This does make for a heavy AND pricey project. I've resigned myself to use this project to learn new skills and techniques.

      Hi Su, thank you so much for the comment! While your projects super interesting and working out how to make that work sounds like a great project it is always better to attach larger items to the wall where ever possible as this makes them much safer! I hope your project goes well and you learn lots of new skills!!!

    Go out on any "garbage" day and you will find many many old cabinets, sofas and the like that have perfectly serviceable legs. With a little work these can be saved from the landfill and repurposed. You will have to clean them up and refinish them, but hey. You will also find many cabinets and the like as well. If you are patient and don't mind a little 'garbage' picking, this kind of project can be accomplished at a very little cost.

    I like your shoe cabinet, and thank you for let us know that is heavy, next time you can use something calling "Pole Wrap" you can fin it in any hardware store.

      Hi Gloria,
      Thank you so much for your comment.
      Unfortunately here in the UK we can't get pole wrap but for those of you on the other side of the pond this would be a great option for cutting down on the weight for the doors!

    Looks really nice in place at the end; would have liked to see how the shoes worked inside it also though!
    Also a darkwood stain could look really nice if it doesn't clash too much with the floor.

    • @JustBecauseLeanne
      @JustBecauseLeanne  3 года назад +1

      I wanted to staying it dark but i am trying to brighten up the entry way and I think that staining it dark is counter intuitive! With regards to shoes it is fine for me and vay. Nialls have to be turned sideways but they all go in!

    You can cut a thin piece of your board and glue it on to the short piece.
    Looks great. If you decide to paint it, you can also just use a product like Kwik Wood and make the end part and once dried sand it into proper shape.
    For someone just beginning, you are amazing. Let it just be the beginning of many projects to come. You have a great a”eye” and that is difficult to come by.
    Just as tools piece by piece when funds allow. You could easily flip this piece, or one like it for double your investment. I could easily see you flipping furniture in your future.
    Thanks for sharing and being candidly unique in your honesty. I am now a subscriber…..watching for what you have next.
    Did not know IKEA carried a thinner cabinet. I can sure use one for dog gear and my own boots.

      Thank you so much for you amazing comment! Still haven't decided on a finish!!!! you are right about adding the part on but honestly the bits that are 'wrong' just make it mine so i am happy with it!
      I have already branched out into more tools and there will definitely be more furniture stuff coming soon. Just need to make it through half a dozen other hobbies first.
      Thank you as well for your subscription it means so much to me!
      I definitely recommend on of these cabinets if you can gets your hands on one!
      Leanne.

    Looks great, what size spacers did you use, same 15x25mm wood strips?

    • @JustBecauseLeanne
      @JustBecauseLeanne  3 года назад +1

      Hi, yes it is the same stripwood, I just turned it on it's side and so the gaps are 15mm.

    Once you loaded your shoes in, did that take care of the tipping forward problem?

    • @JustBecauseLeanne
      @JustBecauseLeanne  3 года назад +2

      Unfortunately not! The weight of the shoes was not enough to counter balance the weight of the wood added to the front of the doors so it still ended up needing to be fixed to the wall.

    There's usually a gap in the middle between the doors how come yours doesn't ?

    • @JustBecauseLeanne
      @JustBecauseLeanne  2 года назад

      Hi Christopher,
      I actually bough this cabinet second hand and when I got it the door overlapped quite badly so I used the adjusters on the hinges to realign the doors.

    If it is real wood, do. not. paint. it. Why hide all that beauty? Tung oil is super easy, and if you get the kind without metallic dryers, completely non-toxic. Rub on. Rub off. It doesn't get easier or greener than that.
