Thank you for making this. GoPro's website should take notes from you, on how to let people know how to update their products. Their site is pretty vague IMO, and they assume every one has the latest and greatest computer gear, i.e. micro card readers and the like. I'm running a 11 year old iMac so I have find videos like this to help me. :)
Man i almost sold my camera cause i couldn't get it to update. I bought the adapter and micro mic for it and it wouldn't work without the update. If kept unconnecting from the wifi for some reason and Idk what i did but i finally got it. Thank god. I had spent alot of money on it. I love it. Best vlogging camera for the price.
my app lost connection with my go pro when it was doing the last step of transferring files. Now my go pro is flashing with an explanation mark on it. Do you know what I can do from here?
The Stupid thing about the app is that you have to have your Mobile Data on in order to update the camera through your phone. you need to untick your home wifi and connect to Device's wifi then update. That is just so stupid
Yeap. Durpiest shit ever. You need wifi to connect to gopro but if you do that it then requires internet, and that means you have to dump wi-fi, go data, download all you need, then reconnect with wifi back. Stupidest thing I have ever seen.
And that's not the end of it! I need apple ios 10 to use it, which is not even available anymore on the developer website!!!!! My ipod touch has full capabilities to run the app, and apple just wont let me have it wishing I'd buy an iphone or ipad... So stupid!
I have a GP6, and a Pixel2 cell. I had to install a Samsung connect app 1st, to get to this point . ...fyiThe Pixel has needed all kinds of unique downloads for various projects. fyi
still doesnt work... idk whats goin on. just says something went wrong... " makes sure Wi-Fi and bluetooth are on to continue". every time i try and update it... i dont understand!!!
Thank you Sir, before watching this video I had difficulties with connecting "pairing" my GoPro Hero 6 with GoPro (Capture) App installed on my smartphone. I followed the steps as directed & it also worked on Hero 6, I think my initial attempts failed was the screen saver wasn't turned off because when I did it instantly connected. I have watched numerous GoPro Hero's setup videos & inquired advice on this issue but no solutions forthcoming until now, it seems I am encountering another problem when trying to update the camera's firmware, a message saying an error was encountered with the camera device when attempting to download latest update. Please advise me on a solution to this issue, by selecting later the camera functioned properly with the smartphone app. Cheers!

ALLL I get when the App confirms the New Device is Connected is the media loading option, Button to press to start recording etc. Nothing that looks remotely like Software Update, or INSTALL , so now what ....... ?
It's up to date then, go to preferences, then "about this gopro" wnr at the bottom of that screen is the version number. It should read 2.60 as 9n September 26 2018 😎

This might save someone like 30 seconds. As of 4/7/2018 the current firmware for the Hero 5 is 2.60.
"HERO5 Black v02.60 Release: October 19, 2017"
19/08/2018 still same firmware version.

The update screen doesn't pop up at all like you stated... Useless. What's the other way around to update via the gopro app?
What to do if i slide down, but there`s no any menu?
