Truly, a mind blowing game mechanic. Nah, but seriously. How many games give you the freedom to be nice, just because you want to? There are several RPGs where I tried to do something nice, but it just wasn't a mechanic in the game. Like giving a healing potion to a wounded guard. You just... can't. It is somewhat surprising to me just how immersion-breaking that is to me.

It makes me think of recruiting hostages in Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker and Phantom Pain. The trailer said something about a safehouse you store potable water at, which I assume determines how many people it can support. Makes me wonder what happens if you try to bring an enemy back alive? This seems like the kind of game where you can move dead bodies to avoid alerting patrols (unless they're as cynical as the orcs in Shadow of Mordor and don't care), which begs the question if you can carry an enemy who's unconscious or immobile to the extraction point.

@@matthewbrown3981my guess is that those are masks because in other trailers you can see mouth expressions (along with the eyes in this one) under those synthetic faces. My guess is that they wear them to either give a sense of character to themselves in a grey world or as a way to remain hidden. In a world where AI and technology seem to have advanced incredibly far, it would make sense for a scav or a soldier to want to hide their faces so they don’t become a target for something much worse. It could also just be a stylistic choice and I’m all for that.
Oh wow, this was actually surprising to watch. I had assumed the factions that were fighting were all automated, following the last commands of their creators that were long dead. This has me even more interested to learn more about this universe and the 3 big factions that are still fighting.
Yeah, I'm really, really curious now about what life's like inside the factions now. Betting it's definitely not Nice, given how disposable their troops seem.
Personally I like this approach. It's so much worse than a Total/Planetary Annihilation situation. In the same way that War is worse than Hell, because those in Hell deserve it.
Yeah, I thought that the "people" in the factions were changed(cyborging, brainwashing, genetic modification, whatever) by the AIs to be inhuman, weird, and maybe "machine-like" beings that fit the AIs needs better than ordinary humans. You know, after looking at "you are not this guy" picture from the steam page and all the weirdly deformed soldiers in the concept arts😅 I guess I were wrong😂
Eurasian, Europan and Euruskan (basically south East European & Asian faction, US & north western European faction and a entral european/Baltic & Russian faction). The Europan faction is on the back foot, they are technologically behind the Eurasian faction, they use every thing in their stock pile from WWI to current modern arms to equip their troops. They do have some higher tech stuff, but it's used sparingly as they cannot reproduce most of it quickly if at all. They use a more traditional combined arms doctrine. The Eurasian forces are allied with the Euruskan forces, the Eurasian faction is the primary offensive partner in the alliance that has significantly higher tech equipment but has few actual units compared to the Europan's. Though they do cybernetically augment their civilian population and low altitude air drop them into the battlefield as a sort of psydo cyberzombie front line troop. They use the cyberzombies as a way to soften positions and find targets, they then deploy actual fighting units to clumps of cyberzombies that detect (or get wiped out by) enemy forces. They also use them as a defensive line, just leave them in enemy bases they capture and move on because they don't have the manpower to hold much ground with real troops. The Euruskan faction is kitted out more toward the biological body horror augmentations and have less combat units over all. They seem to be more focused on rebuilding infrastructure, bases etc and have more of a support role to their Eurasian Allies. The battlefield is called the City of Lost Angels, again the Europan forces are on the Defensive here, and the war world wide has been at a sort of stalemate of back & forth for so long that most central command structures have been eliminated and the state of anywhere else in the world is mostly unknown. They have been fighting so long that they have likely forgotten why the war started. Most battle fields like the City of Lost Angels have little to no oversight anymore. Some VI's and AIs might be running parts of the conflict, some even have gone Rogue like Toothy the VI operated medical Mech, while other parts may have at most a local Battalion or Company command structure left. Either way, the war rages on using what is available to fight each other. And we, the Scav's, are stuck in the middle. We live underground and venture up to the Battlefield to salvage anything valuble or useful as these Titans duke it out. We are usually ignored, not seen as a threat, most of the time. But if we salvage things that are valued by either faction or that could make us more of a threat (say an RPG or machine gun) then they WILL pay more attention to us....we don't want that, at all. We don't pilot mechs, get combat training or equipment and we are not apart of any faction. We are survivors that are picking this corpse of a city's bones for anything to live, this war rages on uncaring & unknowning of our existence. Doing our best to keep it that way, because we don't want to be known or cared about by either faction. It is a sure-fire way to get killed quickly if you do.
I like the idea that we can potentially be like medics on the battlefield. Giving players the option to be saviors or scavengers is a cool moral dilemma.
Take back a shit ton of ammo, food and water, or save this one person who might be able to help you fix something or defend your home. Really would force some difficult choices.
From my understanding, there's a reputation system in the game with the various factions actually fighting the war; and thus, rescuing de-mech'd pilots like this likely nets a bunch of reputation for whoever's side they belong to.
I love the look of the scavs and combatants. I especially like the idea of what transpired in this video. Imagine you are that mech pilot and you just see these everyday scavengers (whom you probably don't have the best opinion of) come around and save your life after a grueling battle. "Not everyday you get to do a good deed" hits so hard and I am here for it.
That was some incredibly exciting footage. In particular the way Infantry and the mech operated together. Hope that plays out in the actual game as well. Forever winter is definitely on the top of my watchlist atm.
just remember, you aren't the person using the mech, you aren't the person supporting it either, you're the person trying to survive stuck between two or more armies and trying to just scrounge the scraps off the field of battle.
Это как минимум фантастически стильно и свежо, смесь стилайз графики и с фоторилом в которую вплетается эффекты стопмоушен анимации - господа, вы вызываете уважение и восхищение!
Awesome video, I love that it showed that the soldiers aren't just blood crazed, drug infused psychopaths that are brainwashed into killing anything that isn't part of their faction. She had no reason to trust them, and they had no reason to help her. But in a world this dark? Moments like this really would help keep you sane. Note for FDS: I would recommend making sure that npc/ai soldiers fighting alongside the mech don't use it's shield as cover, any time it shoots the concussive blast of the cannon would easily cause catastrophic traumatic brain injuries and probably kill the soldier on the spot. So either showing that the soldiers have some kind of concussive resistant exo-suit that prevents them from being injured by the blast, have the normal soldiers only use the left hand side of the shield as cover (away from the gun), or have some kind of heavy infantry unit (cyborg of some kind?) that is meant to be the combat engineer who supports the mech with small arms covering fire and is built to withstand the blast. Then if there are small repairs that need doing: ammo switching, small repairs (cords getting cut, hydraulics repair, etc), reloading missile tubes, etc. there is someone, or a small team, there to support the mech.
I don't think that's brain-damage tier blast, but it would NOT be fun. Probably would make you really ill, even with sufficient earpro. Also the dust it kicks up would mean you'd probably need eyepro too.
@@techpriest5676 Eh idk, it looks like it's at least a 20mm with a large muzzle brake directing the entire concussive force into the head of the soldier standing beneath it. The recoil of that same rifle/cannon is strong enough to throw the Exo's arm back at least 18 inches. I think at least a intermediate TBI would be guaranteed, and a major TBI would be highly likely. Standing beneath that for 5+ shots... idk.
Nah, that seems to Eurasia or Euruskan troops (Eurasian cyborg lore is f-ed up), Europans seem to be rather un-augmented besides necessary limb replacement
I absolutely love how, in this midst of this incredibly bleak world you've created, there can still be small moments of human selflessness. Against all odds, in spite of all the the blood and hunger and violence, there are still people who will lend a helping hand to those in need. Beautiful.
Personally, I think the game should have an off-line mode so that way people don’t always have to play online something this beautiful should not be allowed to die
That's 100% a major focus of the game. Scav's do what we do to help our home underground and eachother where we can. The Dev's have said that there will be a donation drop off for Veteran Scav's to donate some stuff for new Scav's to use. We go up to get water, food, medications & medical equipment, ammo, weapons and all sorts of gear & stuff. Given we can take contracts from the factions as well, there will be a reputation system for that too. Rescuing a Veteran Mech Pilot would likely improve our reputation with that faction, it may even be a contract we can take. The point is, doing it out of kindness or as a mission would be rewarding either way to encourage this sort of "We should look to help each other when we can" mentally in this utter hellish and endless war. It's definitely something the Dev's have in mind in making this game it seems.
In others games, you'd be the Exo pilot, but here, you are the trash collector picking up scrap and circuits off machines like these. That's quite briliant of you guys. Doing a trailer not about the player's character, but rather a unit you will encounter in the game.
This entire game's marketing campaign is "You are not this guy"" -shows a fully kitted out soldier "You are this guy" -shows a random little scavenger. Their trailers literally having any other character as the focus with the scavengers just showing up '"After the fact" is brilliantly in line, and also lets them show off mechanics without literally spelling it out to us.
I was gonna make a comment about "I like how in the game we're not supposed to care about any of this" until I saw the end where the scavs pick up the pilot
Now imagine if they had gone the route of you being the exo pilot in this setting. Damn shame that they're going the flavor-of-the-month route of Tarkov looter shooter with the gameplay focus.
@@Ikimono It's literally the opposite, they're going with this concept because it speaks to them as artists that were constantly screwed in some way by corporations. It's very firmly an anti-war game.
Most the advertising is selling people on the things you can't be in the game. That's like advertising a metal gear game and showing off mech combat. It's deceptive marketing.
Genuinely 10/10 for concept and art direction. On that basis alone, this is a project that deserves to succeed. If execution is even close to the art direction and concept, this game will be a beloved classic for the entirety of its hopefully long lifecycle
That actually would be really refreshing if you’re able to show mercy to NPC’s. It’s like how in the TLOU and its sequel where NPC’s would sometimes surrender if they were staggered or wounded. But they never built up on that idea and the npc would just attack again after some time passed and you end up killing them. Hopefully it’ll be somewhat seamless in skirmishes or at least not as separate from the main fighting like a wounded soldier off alone on the opposite side of the map of where the main skirmish is.
Tbf, the way this game is marketed, it's pretty clear that if you can see the main skirmish happening, that's the game telling you to find a way around or to not get involved.
I like to imagine the conversation those two scavs had with the pilot when they got back to the safe house “You’re a scav now miss! Welcome to the bottom of the food chain!”
Alright, if I wasn't hooked before, I definitely am now. Keep them coming, I love getting these glimpses into the setting, the aesthetic, and the morality
Awesome video, though I feel as if the title is a little misleading. It would be sick if we could actually see the machinery and logistics that keep this endless war moving forward. Like how scrap metal is collected en-masse and melted down into usable refined alloys and components to be made into weapons inside the vast underground complexes pumping out war machines completely autonomously 24/7. Then how these weapons are distributed and used up until the bitter end. Then the cycle starts over again.

Yeah it's small stuff like that and the one guy standing right below the firing autocannon that take me out a bit. But it's in a trailer that I'll probably never see again so it's whatever.
Nah, you can't do anything to end the war. It's kinda like Total Annihilations war, nobody can remember why the war started, there is no overall command, just Virtual Intelligences playing chess with troops they have and ordering to take positions that no longer exists, defend lines that long ago lost any meaning... all sides at this point are fighting not to achieve anything else except complete annihilation of other sides. And none of them have any plan what to do if they achieve that goal.

I really hope that they don't ruin the aesthetic of the game with ridiculous brand partnerships and cosmetics that are completely out of place. Feels like our own version of the harvesters scooping stragglers up off the battlefield to process them for bioelectricity and organs, difference is we do it to bring in more bodies who can work for our settlement. Not every day you get to do a good deed, and even fewer when nobody can accuse you of ulterior motives. I'm foreseeing a lot of morality choices where you're left to question if you did the right thing because it was right, or because you thought the benefits outweighed the consequences enough to warrant getting involved. Worst part about all of it is that in a world like this, nobody's gonna begrudge you for doing good just out of a sense of egotistical altruism.

Like little mice trying not to get stepped on
@@matthewbrown3981my guess is that those are masks because in other trailers you can see mouth expressions (along with the eyes in this one) under those synthetic faces.
You know, after looking at "you are not this guy" picture from the steam page and all the weirdly deformed soldiers in the concept arts😅 I guess I were wrong😂
could be that they're being automatically psycho-indoctrinated by similar AI-s to what's doing all the 3d-reprinting.
Really would force some difficult choices.
or they will get paid for her, veteran pilot must be valuable
From my understanding, there's a reputation system in the game with the various factions actually fighting the war; and thus, rescuing de-mech'd pilots like this likely nets a bunch of reputation for whoever's side they belong to.
Game's out now, this is actually a quest you can do!

Then if there are small repairs that need doing: ammo switching, small repairs (cords getting cut, hydraulics repair, etc), reloading missile tubes, etc. there is someone, or a small team, there to support the mech.
bruh it’s a video game
Standing beneath that for 5+ shots... idk.

Light burns brightest in the Dark. We can be the change the world needs.
In a world so bleak and dark, it's really nice just having these small wholesome moments. It really gives that little small thing to keep going.
