This game is revolutionary in the industry by concept alone. And don't even get me started on the depth of lore and the design language. How entire cultures and societies are built around this staggeringly monumental war apparatus, the vast majority of which are there to wage it. But then there's the little guys, a subculture that does what it must, and only that. As close to the line as possible without going over...over and over again. Picking through the machine's endlessly replenished excursionary rejectamenta, we play as scavs-perhaps the least capable, but who are possibly out of all of those who are left, the most human.
I wonder how much modding potential this game might have.. With the systems in place, the AI, etc. imagine what you could do adding new machines, changing the entire world aesthetic, tweaking the AI, etc.

something i find truly unique in the visual aspect of this univers and despite what the title might suggest is that this place feels neither hot nor cold, the lighting make it looks like a huge fire took place here but on the other hands some of the scavs are wearing heavy thick clothing wile other are roaming arround only wearing a t-shirt...feels like war has destroyed the very notions of cold and hot, just like the colors of the world who seems to have faded into this exageration of Jean Pierre Jeunet cepia philter wich also reminds me of the movie waltz with bashir and OG call of dury 4 missions set in the middle east. i love it already.
Agreed, the color palettes for this game are extraordinary. Reminds me of Makoto Kobayashi's work and Kazhuishi Kondo's, with the drab colors and bulbous mechanical forms. Enjoying the game fully right now and can't wait for the next update!
This game looks like you put your heart and soul in it. I might sound simple saying that, but im almost 40 years old. I remember the old days of gaming industry, and i think today games lack atmosphere, immersion, and a believable world. Long story short, games have an identity crisis while being overly expensive. And your game screams immersion and atmosphere, and the price is very decent. I will gladly support your project and cross my fingers this becomes one of the best PVE Coop experiences ever, since good PVE Co-op games are very hard to make. Thanks Fun Dog!
I completely agree. I'm a little scared about some of the noise I have heard about it being in a very early alpha state though. While I am more than happy to buy the game now in what ever state it's in I see how hyped we all are for it. I know that lots of spoiled instant gratification types will flip their shit about anything less than perfection. I want the game to grow and spawn sequels, and I have my concerns that it's just not ready yet. Whatever the case I'll be buying it on ea release and I'll do my best to help make it a winner.
@@muthulhuv608 I get you. Well, i am from an era where games were choppy, buggy, something like a hypetrain did not exist. But the atmosphere and immersion were top notch. On the other hand, its a multiplayer PVE Co-op experience, and those games are tougher to make. I dont mind choppy animations, or stupid AI behaviour, i can already see YT channels posting videos about how hilarious "gamebreaking and literally unplayable" Forever Winter is. But you know what? I dont care. I am the type of guy, who can enjoy a game even if its steam reviews are mixed. Last title was Gray Zone Warfare. People complaining and meanwhile me, who does not give a shit, since i simply enjoy the game. PVE in Tarkov, sweat drowned people complaining they cant own Timmies on PVP because lots of adult folk moved to PVE, and the complainers get stomped by other sweat soaked PVPers, so they exhale and rant that PVE is rubbish. Meanwhile those that like PVE dont care and just enjoy it. I hope you get my vibe, because my point is that PVE Forever Winter might have a bumpy road, but you cant satisfy everybody.
@@MrScar88 yeppers, believe me I do sometimes miss the old days of playing Unreal Tournament or Battlefield 1942 with the boys but the last time I really got into a PVP experience was battlefield 4. I've seen enough gameplay at this point to know I'll have fun with it when it launches and hopefully it grows into a great game. After all as my wife pointed out to me 7 days to die was honestly garbage when it launched and now It's pretty awesome. We also played the division from launch to it reaching maturity and had a lot of fun with that as well.
it's fascinating to me how effective having only the people not be hyper realistic is for the art style. Anything 'natural' becomes something out of place in a highly disturbing visual metaphor for the setting.
I don't care how it works, I love that based on depictions of gunhead, he just slaps 1 up there and its good to go, loving the balance between realism vs fun fundamental in the design.
3:05 - the floor/ground flexes when the guy jumps off and lands on the other side. Have that in-game on similarly weak structures. Guaranteed heart attack moment and adds to the realism.
Love the warzone reporter feel of the first half of the trailer, sets right into the idea of watching combat around you rather than acting like you'll last in it
Seeing the full length trailer adds another fear I have for toothy. Not only does he merc and consume standard dudes but he can go toe to toe with a whole squad being supported by a tank and win. Can’t wait to crap my pants seeing him in my play throughs
This has the vibe of "The Second Renaissance: Part II” from 'The Animatrix'. A desolate earth ravaged by all-out war, and populated by man-made horrors that churn the stomach and weaken the soul. Can't wait to play this. ✊
WOAH that last line took my breath away completely. What a twist to put on the entire extremely dark concept... the trailer ends with an ominous question of which the "right" answer would negate the entire thing.
I was so excited to play this game, man. It looks like so much fun and I love the vibe of it. But resetting my progress because I didn't play for a few days is an insult tantamount to pissing in my soup.
This game looks like a passion project of the highest order. Some of the most mind blowing visuals I've ever seen. I hope this studio grows into something monolithic.
It is not often I am rendered speechless, this is one of those times. Five minutes, thirty one seconds of awe. When a game trailer can manage to make me feel more emotional attachment to characters in it, in that short amount of time, wow. This was more enjoyable than most of the movies and shows I have watched as of late. Bravo!
I'm so happy I managed to find a new job in time for this, being able to hopefully not only pay for and enjoy the game but maybe the music and an art book as well. Love what I'm seeing.
Most of all, it's awesome to see such a world and atmosphere get realised and recieve the emphasis it deserves, if the rush of taking in the lore is merely a newcomer's thing in other games, or just a very slight breath of air in between mindless hero action; this game will surely deliver in its promise to put the artist and their art in the forefront.
This is the one game I’ve been waiting for. Absolutely addicted to it, the grit, blood and gore, the gameplay and especially squadding up with friends. It’s a totally different game to anything that’s come before it. 80s retro vibes with the music and interfaces I can’t get enough of it! Amoral corporations rule the solar system, mercenaries cut down hapless workers for profit, and nightmare creatures that'd look at home in Dead Space or Hellraiser prowl the dark corners. Space marine 2 doesnt scratch that itch, but then again it wasn’t trying to with you being a space marine and all. However the Warhammer books and setting have all the elements laid out for a future series or game. Shows how important talented people are to make something like this. Now GW just needs to stop being lazy and expand their universe.

They're a relatively small indie studio, I think realistic faces would have been better but that's probably both beyond their scope and not their intention
I actually think the style is a nice blend of being unique with a good quality. I also feel the style gives more life to expressions. But let's face it, I'm sure we all would make that face in an ambush with the knowledge that one machine can essentially strip your flesh and organs like you were digested in a matter of seconds.
This is incredibly intense and downright disturbing - totally messed up, but in the best way possible. It’s been a while since a trailer made me feel this much.

This world really shows how little human life is valued. From tanks that use human corpses as armor, to mechs that use people for fuel and parts. The gun you carry is worth more than you are.

It looks and sounds amazing. I'm incredibly excited for it...except the decaying water mechanic. I'm not going to invest in a game that penalizes me for not playing it. Guess we'll see what they decide on that given the feedback.
It’s going early access so probably regardless it’ll end up inhibited by a Mixed rating
That the previous trailers/teasers now come together in this one made me speechless. This is an incredible little story that shows how far from grace the world of The Forever Winter has fallen. True grimdark.

The vibes, the music, the subtle story telling with the enviroment, how can 20 devs put most triple a studios to shame with just one trailer?
Was that a battle robot digesting people for energy like a pitcher plant?
Jesus, my nightmares could never be so creative.
They've actually shown some concept art of that mech on other social media, and yes it takes people and digests them as living batteries, using nanotech to replace failing organs until they spit out the bones and look for a fresh body.
There’s actually a robot concept called EATR developed by DARPA that could forage for biomass to power itself… They say it would only use plant matter, yet listed chicken fat as a potential fuel source…
The US military just developed a carnivorous robot that is capable of digesting "living matter" for energy.
That's Toothy, and you are correct. And that's pretty par for the course in Forever Winter, from what I understand.

That last scene with the guy getting dropped in the sack was actually a bit gut wrenching. Very, very few things have been able to get a reaction like that from me these days so excellent work!
It wasn't until now that I noticed Toothy dump the remains of the previous occupant of that bag, then put the old man in it.
Worse yet is that bag is going to break his body down, keeping him alive, and more horrifically, conscious through most of the process replacing organ function with synthetic organs until the body is eventually fully broken down and discarded like seen earlier in the trailer. something i find truly unique in the visual aspect of this univers and despite what the title might suggest is that this place feels neither hot nor cold, the lighting make it looks like a huge fire took place here but on the other hands some of the scavs are wearing heavy thick clothing wile other are roaming arround only wearing a t-shirt...feels like war has destroyed the very notions of cold and hot, just like the colors of the world who seems to have faded into this exageration of Jean Pierre Jeunet cepia philter wich also reminds me of the movie waltz with bashir and OG call of dury 4 missions set in the middle east.
i love it already.
Agreed, the color palettes for this game are extraordinary. Reminds me of Makoto Kobayashi's work and Kazhuishi Kondo's, with the drab colors and bulbous mechanical forms. Enjoying the game fully right now and can't wait for the next update!
It's a nuclear winter
yea and this game depicted it with flawless prefection.
My time is too valuable to deal with cheaters, screaming kids and my degrading reflexes.
Characters look like a claymation. Hitting that Phil Tippett vibe.
Yeah remind me of film MAD GOD by Phil tripped. 😁👍
it's fascinating to me how effective having only the people not be hyper realistic is for the art style.
Also a robot having an upside down AA-12 as a head is metal as phuck
Love the warzone reporter feel of the first half of the trailer, sets right into the idea of watching combat around you rather than acting like you'll last in it

WOW. What a Trailer. This is how Trailers should be shot. No Spoilers, but keeps the Audience on its heels.
The art style of this game is so striking. I hope the devs can nail the gun play and AI, so it feels satisfying

Space Marine II: I am king of the grimdark genre.
Fun Dog: hold my beer
Quasimorph has some pretty hardcore grimdark vibes. Amoral corporations rule the solar system, mercenaries cut down hapless workers for profit, and nightmare creatures that'd look at home in Dead Space or Hellraiser prowl the dark corners. Oh, and the soundtrack is a death metal album minus the vocals.
Landscapes look amazing, it's just what i imagine, would buy just for the tour, exploring, for visuals.
Face at 4:03 is goofy, but still cool, has a style, and that's awesome.
I actually like the goofyness of the character design.
Nice contrast with the machine world, putting in perspective our frail but familiar nature.
