@ziljanvega3879 tbh, shapeshifting for moon is only a thing because the elemental forms, at least in TT. Earlier levels its not bad, but later levels most beasts are not good :( Which as far as I know also made ranger pets weaker, at least in PHB but they fixed it with Tasha, even with that said... I want the dragon themes ranger subclass from Fizbans :3
I've read that Survival helps in finding buried treasure chests, and as I role play as either Phillip or Terrance from South Park, that is a huge bonus. Also, collecting some components in the wild & underdark seemed to be aided by Nature checks. Animal handling I have found to be less of a factor, but only because I am legally prohibited from going to most petting zoos.
Currently working on a melee ranger idea I've wanted to try out. Went with Ranger Knight and chose hunter. Taking two levels fighter for Defensive fighting style and action surge. And then going with Sword Bard. Better spells, additional skill from bard, and the flourishes sound like they'd go so well with a sword and board or two weapon fighter. I figure I get defensive fighting style from fighter and then the bard and ranger can take dueling or two weapon styles. And then I can duel crossbows for ranged combat.
I really like a single level of monk on hunter or beast master in order to avoid putting points into strength while still being able to wield quite a lot of non-finesse weapons with a dex modifier. I like Gloomstalker with trickery domain Cleric, too - aside from something like thief or fighter. It’s great on anything that dumps dex as well, due to the passive boost to initiative without having to take alert as a feat.
Dragon Knight and you can still go Dex Ranger. Sneaking isn't that big of a deal in BG3 if you didn't pick the urban tracker feat. Just bring Astarion along because at 11 he gets the ability where he can roll anything less than a 1 so you can have him pickpocket all the gold and items off vendors in Act 3 besides armor. Barter -> take 500G -> do this to their whole gold stack -> then go in and pickpocket all the 500G stacks. They have a DC 9 check. Steal all the alchemical ingredients, steal all the arrows, steal all the potions. If there's any armor or weapons you really want that's beyond a 10DC check just buy it, then repeat the 500G gold stack pickpocket route. Make sure to have Astarion hoof it while you still have the vendor locked in chat. So when they're like THEIF you're already gone, if they ask your chat companion you can just say it wasn't me. Then group up everyone. Waypoint to a new "region" then waypoint back. Boom vendor is back in their store, not mad, poor, and ready to barter for their gold back.
For the most part, thief is the best rouge subclass. However for this build, I have found assassin to much stronger. I also went 5 ranger, 5 rouge, 2 fighter. The action surge ability in late game either lets you nuke a boss with 5 auto crits, or nearly every (if not all) mobs.
Right? First, Blind playthrough playing durge. I multiclassed to rogue at baldurs gate and shortly after Gortash made the reveal. The new rogue dialogue options felt so naturally implemented and, by the time I got my Assassin subclass, I fought Orin. Man I was incredibly immersed In the story.
Would the Savage Attacker feat work well on a dual wielding dexterity Ranger? It seems like the Dual Wielding feat is mainly beneficial for Strength-based fighters.
Thank you for this - my first time playing BG3 and 5th edition, grew up on the original D&D and 2nd edition back in the 70s and 80s, so its a strong learning curve. I never played a ranger until this game - having a blast with Beast Master - much like what you discussed. My only gripe with Beast Master is i can't keep my companion animals to stay with me! They bounce all over the map! How can I fix this?
I made a Hunter and am leaning into ensnaring strike...so much so I do not even know Hunter's mark. Hunter's mark for me is kind of like you with duel crossbows. It's strong but so boring as you just always use hunters mark. It's a lot more fun to force my self to use other spells as the situation arises. That first ogre battle in the village was really nice. I kept the smart one ensnared from the ledge most the battle, while everyone else dealt with the other 2.
I'm going for a WH fantasy dwarf ranger, and I think gloom stalker might be most fitting for that sort of archetype. The only issue is that axes and hammers are str weapons, while ranged weapons are dex weapons, and no self-respecting dawi would use a sword....
You can fix the class a bit by putting all feats in STR and also speccing into fighter. Fighter battlemaster is so good because it gives you a lot of interesting extra attacks that can be used with melee and ranged weapons and also action surge and a self heal. Playing as a dwarf warrior/ranger just fits so well and i think for you a 8 ranger / 4 fighter is ideal because you still get 3 feats, which you can use to fix your STR. So in time you will get stronger and stronger with your axes while being a very good at archery. With 3 feat points the game really allows you to play any kind of RP and fix small inconsistencies like being able to use STR weapons on a DEX char and viceversa, if that is your wish.
@mancamiatipoola thanks for the advice. I'm currently playing fighter, and it's great for that dwarf warrior RP, but I'll look into the multiclassing you've suggested. And hey, I could never a ranger (GW) that throws axes, right?
Pre- ordered for PS 5. Planning on beastmaster / rogue. Beastmaster for companion (duh) and rogue for slight of hand and expertise. Lvl 1 ranger for weapon proficiency then go rogue for lvl 2 then back to ranger at lvl 3. Any thoughts?
My personal opinion? I wouldn't. The BM NEEDS its break points at 5, 7, and 11 to stay competitive. Especially 11 which gives the companion "extra attack." If you strictly want to use the companions for their abilities like the Raven's blind, or the Spider's web - then YEAH it'll fuckin DEFINITELY work hahaha. Just know your companion won't be as amazing as it could be because it misses out on Extra Attack (and the increased abilities it gets at lvl 11).
I figure I'll be picking locks more often then sicking my pet on somebody. I know Astarion is a rogue, but I find him annoying. The more I can do w/o him the better.
Thanks. Totally new to this type of game, but really looking forward to it. Huge Dragon Age fan, but since it looks like the PS 10 will be out before DAD, I figured I'd give this a whirl. Appreciate videos and all the help. Seems like a real welcoming community. Looking forward to that beastmaster vid.
Been running as Battlemaster/Hunter with Dual Weapons, with Colossus Slayer you can do a disgusting amount of damage per turn. I also respec'd Wyll into Hunter/Thief with Dual Crossbows and Hordebreaker and that's similarly fuckin' bonkers though now that more characters have AoEs i might switch him also into Colossus Slayer but i can't overstate how helpful Hordebreaker is early on.
Sound great that you experimented so much with the hunter on 2 chars. Although AOE is useful, there are other char that can have interesting AOEs like Gale with spells and La'zael with cleave, so i went with a BM to have an extra 5th char for free which also has very interesting abilities and can kill enemies just fine. I want to try something really unique. Is it possinleto be a ranger in the beg and go into a multi class to be a sorcerer of wind and thunder? I want to try to be able to use bows and magic at the same time if possible and even a sword.
I was looking, making a dwarf with Ranger/Hunter & Barbarian/Beserker. How feasible would this be? I know you can't use spells in rage, mostly looking at the unarmored save. New to the game.
So one piece of feedback for you is most stats should probably not go to 17 unless you are planning to take a half feat. If you leave your primary at 16 you can bump an 8 to a 10 or a 10 to a 12 and get an extra point for the related save and dialogue. Other than that super informative guides. Id also like your recommendations on what spells to pick up rather than just an overview of what they are.
Thanks so much dude!! I sort of alluded to it in the video, but I just left this comment on another individual's post who said the same thing: I didn't want to spoil this in the video, but if you get the "Hag's hair" (that's the least spoiler thing I can call it) and Improved Ability Score at lvl 4, you will have 20 Dex - or any stat for that matter - well before you're even halfway through Act 1. In most cases, I would definitely agree with you, especially for Wisdom which has ZERO half feats in BG3!
Hear me out... 16 dex, 16 wis, 15 con? if you get 3 feats +4 dex and resiliant for +1con and con saving throw prof for more HP and better concentration checks (for spike growth or hunters mark) later with 18dex gloves you can respec and dump dex, take all the con, wis, cha you want :) Horde Breaker on hunter is crazy good
@@italianspartacus I kill the hag. Still, your system if getting a lesser feat to raise it by one isn't bad, but you could just get 2 +2 asi and get a good feat while bumping any other stat +2
dont forget we can respec for only 100gp at withers whiv\ch makes leveling and multiclassing with builds a lot easier, one question about thief can we use our bonus action from fast hands for another off hand attack so two off hand attacks with handcrossbows, and two with our main hand, and an extra one at the start of combat from ambush for 5?
ive alredy created a ranger. and got to lvl 3. did i miss opportunity to make a gloom rogue hybrid or its not a big deal? would it make a difference if i speced into rogue now?
I'm trying to figure out a good build for a Ranger/Cleric cross. I think any class can be crossed with Cleric, but I'm trying to figure out how to optimize the build. We need a healer, so I'm thinking Life Domain. What do you think?
1 level of cleric is good on basically any build. Life would be a good choice due to heavy armor proficiency. If you want to go more than that, you need to think about pumping wisdom harder.
Dang it Sparty! I gotta find out from Indy you had a watch party for Space Marine 2! 😅 looks fun no? Don't get me wrong this is A+ content too... probably S actually. But they got my buggy boys AND my Egyptian sandy boys now! MAXIMUM AROUSAL🎉🎉🎉!
My first playthrough class! *_And damn, I know nothing! After 12 resets I know nothing!_* _Godsend my friend._ Edit: However I'd say Human is a shout so you can at least gain a proficientcy in *something useful.*
Why are you wasting a spell selection on Longstrider? It lasts all day... Get a hireling from Withers and have them cast it on all of your party before you leave camp... Also the favorite enemy you get from level 6 ranger doesn't really add much to a Gloomstalkier. Gloomstalker5 / Theif or Assassin 4 / Fighter 3 is the way to go. Thief if you want to use crossbow, assassin if you want to use a bow. You take it to 4 so you can grab the feat. You can take battlemaster for their maneuvers of eldritch knight if you want a little more versatility. The friends cantrip is excellent if you are the main character.
This is my first ever time playing anything D&D related. Am I correct in saying this class kind of sucks? They seem to dabble in almost everything but doing damage sucks with almost everything. I definitely could just be playing completely wrong as well, opinions are welcome here
I take it something has come between you and CA that i have not heard about since you are not promoting their last DLC wich is now available. ( i can see you have much more view`s with B3)
As of the first patch, you use Survival for more things like finding treasure chests instead of Perception, so don't sleep on Survival if you have points left to choose it.
@@italianspartacus Are you sure? The only cleric related vid I saw on the page said it was about building Shadowheart specifically in the title. I didn't see any others :/
D&D creators: "What about half-elf?" Other Creator: "What about them?" DDC: "They don't have any special abilities. What's even the point?" Other Creator: "Just make it so they can't roll a 1." DDC: "OK."
He mentioned on Twitch that the new DLC isn't interesting to him. I respect that and I respect him working on what he is passionate about. This is his job and one gets burned out when sinking hours into something one isn't passionate about.
@@douglasmacked I could name a dozen creators that have been making TW content for 10 years and are still going strong. Its one thing to dislike a DLC, its another to abandon the game entirely because of one DLC..
Ranger is slept on, people misunderstand it. expecting to be an archer pure class. My Tav was a duelist character, and the gloom stalker subclass went amazing. My duelist bard isnt able to keep up with the damage, unlesss i exclusively use bards slashing floursih ranged attack on the same target. But as melee, ranger was better. I respecced karlach into a ranger knight. with heavy armor, polearms, and a good bow. She fits the role of damage/CC hybrid so much better. With horde breaker, she can really dispatch damage where needed. Rangers are very strong and most people dont know how much better a build is in the ranger class.
Setting a stat at 17 gives you no advantage when compared to 16 while costing you more. It is better to leave it at 16 and increase another stat with the remaining points.
@@italianspartacusTrue, but you should say that when building this way. Assuming items is risky. Also... you should start 16 and respec once you get the +1 item.
@@garion046 that’s impossible and not an option for players RP as an urchin who uses their sneaky skills to get items and love their pockets to be heavy with gold. 100gold for respeccing is a big no no for any urchins. The word ranger comes from the phrase "to range over the land" - which means to travel and move around. Not to... shoot things.
Seeing this video Ill have to play a beastmaster now :o didnt know how they changed them
@ziljanvega3879 tbh, shapeshifting for moon is only a thing because the elemental forms, at least in TT. Earlier levels its not bad, but later levels most beasts are not good :(
Which as far as I know also made ranger pets weaker, at least in PHB but they fixed it with Tasha, even with that said...
You do what lol
Great video! Very informative!
I played Dark Urge as a gloomstalker assassin and I think it fits perfectly after you find out what she has done in her past.
Oh wow that's a playthrough I'll have to look into
starting pc looks like a wish aquaman and i love it
Made a Strength based half-drow ranger that duel wielded a sword and flail. He ended up with an AC of 20 and carried me all the way to Act 2 lol.
cleric class also give your heavy armor if u plan multiclass with cleric u can skip ranger knight
Thanks for the Ranger guide! Will you be a space Ranger (or whatever) in Starfield, or will you be posting videos on it?
Thinking abiut it!
I completly agree crossbows are boring...wait two crossbows at the same time? ok now i am in lol
HOOKED ME ON DOUBLE CROSSBOWS hahaha
Ranger is a great 1 level dip too
Would the Savage Attacker feat work well on a dual wielding dexterity Ranger? It seems like the Dual Wielding feat is mainly beneficial for Strength-based fighters.
Savage attacker only applies to melee weapons
Longstrider lasts till rest but Enhanced Leap is like Feather Fall, gotta keep annoyingly recasting it.
Had to laugh, I'm actually doing a DUrge Ranger lol.
first game, finally finding my groove after a few days of being slaughtered everywhere.
would making a Gnome a ranger and using giant killer be good? Basically everything is a giant to you then right?
Forest gnome for saving throws and free speak with animals
Nice guide.
Woop ranger. People keep saying this is a bad class. Please prove them wrong.
It's so good, I'm going to do one solely on beastmaster
@@italianspartacusawesome. Gonna watch it for certain. I love my dwarf crossbow beast master .
I feel like Ranger are getting some residual stink from the 5e core rules. They are much better in bg3.
I'm making Shadowheart a lvl 5 Gloomstalker/7 Cleric. 🙂
I'm currently working on a tablet win. That's a ranger class.Don't you know how do I make it evil? Can you do up a video on how to make it evil
Wouldn't lvl 12 be lvl 11 beastmaster if I only take a single rogue lvl ?
I figure I'll be picking locks more often then sicking my pet on somebody. I know Astarion is a rogue, but I find him annoying. The more I can do w/o him the better.
Oh a single level?? Yeah you'll be totally fine then!! Hahaha sorry I misread that
The bear can lock down an enemy and also has a CC, the raven can fly far and take care of your rangers/casters while also crippling them, but the spider is truly a master of AOE and CC. Putting down a web in a choke point and having 2-3 enemies stuck in it, then having another char shoot a fireball or fire arrow at the web and setting them on fire, that is just a great wombo combo. The spooder can also cocoon an enemy that will not do anything for a few turns and also has poison bite.
For me, having an extra body in combat that can cast different abilities each turn and also create all kinds of combos is absolutely fantastic.
The antie Ethel hair is super potent, so as soon as I found it I always have my most important stat at 17, then add 2 points with Ability Improvement
Hear me out... 16 dex, 16 wis, 15 con? if you get 3 feats +4 dex and resiliant for +1con and con saving throw prof for more HP and better concentration checks (for spike growth or hunters mark) later with 18dex gloves you can respec and dump dex, take all the con, wis, cha you want :)
Horde Breaker on hunter is crazy good
Putting a stat to 17 or any odd number does nothing more than take stats from elsewhere. unless it's str or con. 16 is better than 17.
It depends on the stat - if I go 17, I can use IAS at 4 and then the hag's hair to get 20 before act 1 is even half way over ;)
@@italianspartacus I kill the hag.
You can steal the gold back from withers without him getting upset as well. So it's pretty much free
Wait so does pc get subclasses for ranger because i dont see it under ranger on ps5😅
You will at level 3 :)
@@italianspartacus ohhh okay thanks
What armor are you wearing?
ive alredy created a ranger. and got to lvl 3. did i miss opportunity to make a gloom rogue hybrid or its not a big deal? would it make a difference if i speced into rogue now?
I'm trying to figure out a good build for a Ranger/Cleric cross. I think any class can be crossed with Cleric, but I'm trying to figure out how to optimize the build. We need a healer, so I'm thinking Life Domain. What do you think?
1 level of cleric is good on basically any build. Life would be a good choice due to heavy armor proficiency. If you want to go more than that, you need to think about pumping wisdom harder.
i thinking going 2 light domain for aoe spell
Do you have a current video on the Druid? I want to try a Ranger with a little Druid.
Druid is coming! It's my next one to make
Does melee two weapon fighting gloom stalker work?
Dark urge fits Gloomstalker nicely. Beast master? Yeah not so much 😂
Dang it Sparty!
Can I change my ranger hunter to a beastmaster or do I need to make a new character
You can respec in your camp
My first playthrough class!
*_And damn, I know nothing! After 12 resets I know nothing!_*
_Godsend my friend._
Edit: However I'd say Human is a shout so you can at least gain a proficientcy in *something useful.*
Drow gloomstalker ftw. Style, combat, lore, everything. Sexy dark lady with glowing red eyes. What's not to love??^^
Druid left? 😊 Shapeshiter pls. ;)
SNOG attack sounds like goblin magic lol
Ranger is cool but Rogue/ Priest of Tymora is the bomb.
You might be better off with 8 ranger and 4 rogue because you get a feat every 4 levels in a class.
First play through, going gloomstalker Ranger to 5, then I’m gonna go rogue the rest of the way.
I'm doing it on my p s five
This is my first ever time playing anything D&D related. Am I correct in saying this class kind of sucks? They seem to dabble in almost everything but doing damage sucks with almost everything. I definitely could just be playing completely wrong as well, opinions are welcome here
Go ranged, pump dex, get sharpshooter, cast hunter's mark. Your damage will be just fine.
@@garion046 Thank you! My dex is 18, it seems like half the time my ranged shots miss.
Almost nobody uses find familiar or mage hand. They're too much managing to do too little.
Mage hand can be ... uh ... well... handy 😊
I think i found my kind of channel.
My kinda guy!!
I take it something has come between you and CA that i have not heard about since you are not promoting their last DLC wich is now available. ( i can see you have much more view`s with B3)
Bro i picked ranger and got locked up 20 minutes in . No way to get through the cave w/o dying
As of the first patch, you use Survival for more things like finding treasure chests instead of Perception, so don't sleep on Survival if you have points left to choose it.
metto mi piace e commento perchè hai italian nel nome :3
I’m a rogue, ranger, fighter multi class and it’s so broken. 😂
22hrs until console early access
cleric next pls
It was my first one :) it's already up!
@@italianspartacus Are you sure? The only cleric related vid I saw on the page said it was about building Shadowheart specifically in the title. I didn't see any others :/
Its both! It's geared towards cleric and I put shadow heart in the title for SEO purposes
@@italianspartacus Oh okay thanks for clearing that up! Gonna go check it out now :)
D&D creators: "What about half-elf?"
Other Creator: "What about them?"
DDC: "They don't have any special abilities. What's even the point?"
Other Creator: "Just make it so they can't roll a 1."
DDC: "OK."
What happened to the TWW3 content?
He mentioned on Twitch that the new DLC isn't interesting to him. I respect that and I respect him working on what he is passionate about. This is his job and one gets burned out when sinking hours into something one isn't passionate about.
Yeh I love Warhammer and TWW2+3 but imagine only doing content on that for a decade. Especially now their dlc costs half the price of Baldurs Gate 3
@@douglasmacked I could name a dozen creators that have been making TW content for 10 years and are still going strong. Its one thing to dislike a DLC, its another to abandon the game entirely because of one DLC..
@@borjinator no worries, there are plenty other channels that upload content that are relevant to their fan base.
@@mikeiamlegend6455 lol
Bruh i play so many games with aspec points and i somehow skipped past all the choices 💀
Get 5 lvls of gloom and then pick something else. There easy peasy mode
I speced into all subclasses at level7 and I don't see what the non-BeastMaster Rangers bring to the table, apart from RPing Aragorn :D
RPing Aragorn is quite fun
Rangers rule. Always
How to sorcerer when?👀
Tomorrow :)
If you go 17, get hag hair then +2 at lvl 4 you'll have 20 at lvl 4
This is the same comment I've left on a few others of the same type! Hag's hair + Improved ability score :D
Think my urchin main character would delete my save file should I ever consort to spending a horrendous 100g on something I could have easily avoided.
Gnome or gtfo! Haha
