      This is a year old but if anyone stumbles upon this at any point, the real strength of Eldritch Knight (in addition to just being a fighter with 3 attacks and shield) is the sheer number of ways you can change it only using itemization and feats.
      You can dump strength and use int for your weapon attack if you use a staff and magic initiate druid for shaleillagh. This version is one of the best scroll users in the game. It’s also the best class for making a variety of weapons with low save dc’s on their passive features work because of Eldritch strike. Some stylish options that don’t get enough use are the banshee bow (frightened) and the susser greatsword (silenced) both of which are difficult to proc, but extremely good if you build around them. This setup synergizes well with the baneful striking gloves.
      Give them the winter’s clutches/coldbrim hat and any cold damage weapon and you have a freeze abuse build. Give them a fire weapon and you have a heat build etc etc. Shift it up from fight to fight. Hugely underrated and misunderstood class.

  • @FlyingFox86
    @FlyingFox86 Год назад +7

    Archery is an excellent fighting style. The others are generally fairly underwhelming, but +2 to attack rolls is the equivalent of 4 levels in dexterity for the purpose of hit chance.
    I would say that's worth it even if you are mixing ranged and melee combat.

One is the hag hair and the other is a merchant in act 2, dex you can dump and get an item that helps that. So if you wanna go full tank you can have 20 strength, 18 Dex and 20 constitution by level 6 I believe if you take ability score improvement for constitution. people that complain about odd number stats seem to forget that stuff like athlete exist. If you have your build mapped out, there is no reason not to set a specific stat to an odd number. There are even some items in the game that reduce stats by -1, so you can plan ahead for that as well.

    • @FlyingFox86
      @FlyingFox86 Год назад +1

      Well, "need" is relative. Only spells that use attack rolls or spell DC need intelligence to increase their chance of affecting an enemy. There are a ton of spells that always work, like featherfall, longstrider, shield, magic weapon, disguise self, invisibility, misty step, etc.
      Even some that you can cast on enemies, like magic missile, sleep, and color spray.
      Given the limited number of spells an Eldritch Knight can now at any one time, you can very easily and effectively play an 8 INT Eldritch Knight.

    Just found your channel recently and subbed immediately! I have been curious as to a ranged specced fighter. Such as using a heavy crossbow. Without a good online character planner I am having trouble visualizing how to build it or am I just wasting my time on the idea. Just something in my head makes it seem cool with heavy armor and a giant crossbow as the party artillery.
    Edit:
    Giving it more thought with what experience I have in BG3 I suppose the heaviest armor that would suit the build would be Medium Armor since Heavy Armor is suited for high strength characters vs this one being Dexterity based. I would go Battle Master since many maneuvers include ranged options. Just interested in your thoughts.

    I have been thinking of making and Elfish Eldritch Knight, and either keep it as a single class or dipping into 4 lvls of wizard. A single class one gets the extra attack, the re-roll of saves and some hit points. The wizard option will make me and 8th level caster instead of 4th, giving access to lvl 3 and 4 spells, as well as the ability to scribe scrolls, I'd also go abjuration for the Arcane Ward, it would max out at 8 points reduction but with shield, which I think will be used a lot it should recharge quickly.
    Both will be great for the style I have in mind, so it is a tough choice 3 attacks and rerolls of failed saves, vs more spells, more powerful spells, and the damage reduction of Arcane Ward. I may end up playing it a bit, and if I feel I need more magic options, at lvl 5, 7 or 9 I'll dip into wizard that way I should get a feat just before I take wizard, and right as lvl 4 before I go back to Eldritch Knight.

    To the D&D vets out there; great-weapon style is slightly better in BG3. Instead of just re-rolling just the weapon physical damage die, you re-roll all the attacks damage.
    I.e. if your weapon is 2d6 physical and 1d6 fire and any of these roll a one, you will re-roll. In the tabletop it would only be the 2d6.

      Great Weapon Master states that the weapon must be a Heavy melee weapon. Larian decided to remove that property to make life easier for people wanting to play a martial character of a small race (Halflings and Gnomes) since Heavy normally gives disadvantage to small characters using those weapons. Instead Great Weapon Master uses the same criteria as the Fighting Style called Great Weapon Fighting. The weapon must be a melee weapon with the two-handed property or with the versatile property if used with both hands (no shield or other weapon in the off hand)

    Guy I’ve been loving your videos since subscribing but that’s like the 8th time you’ve described the male gith as a ‘crackhead’.
    Do you know anyone who’s succumbed to that level of addiction? They’re just ppl who are in a bad place. Respectfully asking you to think about not calling anyone a crackhead in a forum this influential. If not, that’s ok, just been on my mind since I started following ❤️.
