    I should also mention about the big prime in that 35L bag...so I have the 500 f4 mk ii, and it fits in there with it's lens hood. The RF 600 f4, while the same length and weight as the 500 mk ii, has a much larger front aperture, because physics. So while it will fit in the bag as I have it setup, the lens hood will not fit in there in any way. So you'd either have to put the hood in your checked bag, get a bigger carry-on bag for it, or get something like the lenscoat travel hood for it.

      600 is nearly 100mm longer than the 500.

      I see you pack the 500mm with the 1.4x extender on it. Does the setup not fit with the RF to EF adapter also installed on it?? Thanks.

    • @BrentHall
      @BrentHall  5 месяцев назад +1

      @@jefferyrobbins3468 It does, I just usually leave the adapter on the camera because I use my ef 16-35 a lot still right now.

    Suggest getting rig of the Canon lens cover on your 500mm and getting a Zemlin lens cover. Good space save and much better way to protect the lens. I use one on my 600mm. I use that and a Lenscoat Travelcoat when traveling.

    Good timing - we are headed to Normandy, FR and then Germany for a few weeks and my camera area is in similar disarray as I sift through what I'm taking. We've been to Europe many times and I've selected bags that fit within the regional/international flights overhead compartments, which are generally smaller than their counterparts in the US or the bigger jets that fly over the pond. You hit on an important point - adaptability/flexibility with what you where / how the bags can be configured. Hope your trip is/was epic!

    Hope your Scotland workshop is a blast. Just returned first of May, and visited the Isle of May and Edinburgh. Puffins Rock, but so do Razor Bills and all the other cool birds. Used Tamron 100-400 for Nikon on my Z7 on the Isle of May and it was good overall. Needed some support, I'm over age 70, and wasn't prepared. Looking forward to what you share.

    Good to know the Shimoda Explore 35 liter fits under the seats. I have the large core unit in my 35 liter and it pretty much holds all of my gear. If we need a second carry on, my wife can take our Shimoda Urban Explore 25 liter for any overflow needs. Other then that, we pack/check a large duffel or suitcase, depending on the destination, for the rest of our stuff. Have a great trip!

    • @BrentHall
      @BrentHall  5 месяцев назад +1

      Yeah, I was very relieved when it "fit" under the seat, especially with my 500mm in there. While it does fit, it's tight and takes up your leg room, but still worth it for me personally.

      Same, I can't believe it's been a year already! So, we just got in last night and went for a sunset walk. It was perfect. This morning I got up with the sun...at 4 am, lol, and went for a walk. Sky was on fire...sprinted back in and grabbed the camera. Gout out just in time for a perfect rainbow over the sea cliffs and epic light with blooming flowers...it was incredible. Filmed a very impromptu vlog real quick, so hopefully that will be either the first or part of the first episode here.

    Brent, I always love your videos. the camera lessons are awesome plus the hands on practical knowledge are so beneficial. you had asked for comments and i always have a ? my comment is i pack similar to you; but i put my small lens or extenders in small draw string bags. a little added protection plus i can carry them on my belt show the situation arise. my ? why aren't you carrying the 1.4. for such a little weight and space i think you gain a lot. thanks for another great video. .

    Brent, the most important thing to take is some form of insect repellent to ward off the midges !! The little monsters will eat you alive if you go unprepared.
    Brent, do not miss a trip to Glen Coe, it's a photographers dream for landscapes, also I highly recommend Glen Lyon and Skye.

      Haven't seen a single midge out here, but that's why I go to the east coast in the summer. I don't think I'll ever visit Glencoe or anywhere on the west coast during the summer, way too many bugs and tourists out there! 😜

    I noticed a lack of padding between some equipment in the camera bag. Is there a risk of traveling and hiking with lenses and drones right up against camera bodies?

    • @BrentHall

    What is the weight of your carry on bags? We are heading to Australia and QF limits are 14# for on roll along or 20# total for 2 carry on duffles or bags.

    • @BrentHall
      @BrentHall  5 месяцев назад

      It was more than that, lol. I just hope no one weighs it. But that's why I have the shimoda core carrying case thingy in the video, and the extra little PD packable tote, and lastly, my jacket with big pockets. If they ever weigh it for smaller planes especially, then I have options for pulling some weight out without having to check anything, hopefully.
