I can't believe i watched a 15 minute video of a tarp being pulled lol
The Smitty Ice Show same lol
Same lol
Thad Young I don't even watch baseball.. yet here I am.
Thad Young same lol
Thad Young haahaahaa
The crowd chanting "lets go grounds crew" that was a nice touch haha
A. Matthie i wonder if they asked the fans how many would take the chance to step on the field...id take the water to say i got to step onto a major league field!
Tmuller 1321: They don't want us on the field at any time -- why now? If I wanted to boast that I had stepped onto a major league field, I would practice like hell and be assured of, at least, a back up role on a team, or step on the field with the backing of the tranquil blue skies and sun -- and negotiate with the boys in blue who hold the keys to the blue walls and the imposing iron curtain bars that would veil my freedom.
tmuller1321 ive been on minute maid field quite a few times
Those tarps are no joke.
And if someone gets stuck below them, they'd be called traps.
i feel like in the 21st century, there has to be a more efficient way rather then 20 guys pulling a tarp over the field manually, there isn't a technology that could help them? some sort of motorized pulley system
gorobot less jobs
+gorobot Not in this kind of downpour, nature stronger than anything man-made
wiedep you're telling me that them attaching to tarp to ropes and automated pulleys like how you raise a sail wouldn't be more efficient than middle aged men running on a wet field?
well Woop I was thinking more of a simple automated pulley system on the field, and considering that "tarp puller" isn't a specific job, all of those people are the grounds crew, and other maintenance positions on the field, so no one would be losing a job.
+gorobot aint nobody trying to pay for that
anyone else expecting a batboy to save the day here? only to not have a mention of a batboy
Greg Ward l
He was in the video?
Greg Ward I
Greg Ward I
batboy went under the tarp to keep it from forming a suction the last time
That was like the biggest tug a war ever
There isn't a worse feeling in the world than not being able to get the tarp on during a heavy rain.
come on now. just because you're a professional athelete doesn't mean you can't give out a helping hand.
+spectaclez yeah, making millions of bucks a year and ya cant help? lol
+spectaclez it would've been commendable...but would you risk injury given 6+ figure salaries? sucks, but in terms business/team, it's not worth it. If this was Katrina, or Oakland A's earthquake, where stakes were higher, teams' reactions would be different
busted ankle? or other joint?
Alvaro Lopez
thanks sarcastic boy. so why is a busted joint funny?
There's one video where there are players helping pull the tarp out in Pittsburgh but normally these crews can get it by themselves. I'll bet no one was fired but everybody got a good chewing on.
Beltre doesn't even like rain touching his head
I just wasted 14 minutes of my life watching some guys drag a tarp. Damn I'm such a loser.
1000elvago me and you both
count me in
1000elvago I skipped through 😂
1000elvago 4th
1000elvago hahaahhahaha
i died when the old guy came
Just Your Regular God I thought he was going to loop one of the handles to his oversized golf cart and pull it with motorised assistance.
RIP
8:20
Legend has it the old man in the cart once pulled a tarp three miles uphill in a blizzard by himself. Those were the good ole days, of course.
Cjw615 I thought he was going to toe it away
Lol! I think the fans were having just as much fun watching the grounds crew as they were watching the game. I think it's cute that they're cheering for the poor guys. I feel bad for them......and the crowd cheering and booing when the tarp is being pulled back and forth across the field...
Just electrifying!
This is the most entertaining thing I have ever watched!!!!
Screw Babe Ruth
Screw Jackie Robinson
I want to see a movie about the Grounds Keepers!
mikeshogunlee Jackie Robinson. You get that man`s name right!
Google is my friend
mikeshogunlee Apparently not if you spelled it Roberson..
To avoid the 69 jokes, i self liked
Make it a comedy!
Help came late. But big props to the older gentleman that got in there to give a hand.
The grounds crew seems awfully understaffed. If they had had 10 more people they probably wouldn't of had any trouble.
WannaBeANerd, They also need to get into better physical fitness condition.
WannaBeANerd would *have
john smith Doesn't matter. Why go to school if you're not going to use what you've learned in the real world?
Yeah.. winches built into the stadium would make quick work of that mess. Or just have someone under the tarp to counteract the suction the wet field creates.
Micah Matthysen lol yeah I was gonna say get under it and run around like in the old days in school with the big colorful parachute tarp lol
Tell the speakers shut up I don't see them trying
No kidding anybody with eyes can see that they are understaffed. They got the tarp out there as quickly as they could it's just the rain came down too fast.
i agree
Joshua Kendall
They're called commentators.
you are right
Joshua Kendall They can't just leave in the middle of a live game. No one would commentate. It's not their job
I am surprised the players didnt go into the locker room
Greg Gibson the home plate umpire should've motioned to the grounds crew
Pucker Noodlez lol only a few people would understand
ump logic
As a wise old man once said "Build a frikin roof" "We have the technology" lol
well if the dumbass yankees didnt insist on having an open field
RamenFox12 something Marlins learned from hurricanes
RamenFox12 but we love it out here!!!!!
Good ol' Walter
It takes a long time for the roof to open and close
1 gallon of water is 8.2 pounds..... Yall are screwed.
I was on a grounds crew for a minor league team and the tarp weighed 1700 lb w/o water on it. If it rains hard like this situation you can’t get air underneath it to make it float.
It's a 14 minute video and the Batboy doesn't show up until 9 minutes in and when he does he's just one of several extra people brought in to help, click bait material here.
Joe McKim not really, because he actually did help so they did say one thing that happened in the title
It would've been more appropriate to say multiple people helped pull the tarp out. It's a little bit click bait, not overally much but theres a little bit of it going on.
He actually leaves shortly after
I’ve seen too many of these mishaps.
I think the best move would be to know the size of the tarp and position it tin the proper spot before they unroll it so they don’t have to drag it except to unfold it.
I love baseball and watching the game , so no one say any comments saying that this is more exiting then watching the actual game but this was pretty exiting to watch, maybe that why I like baseball
they should add handles in the middle of the tarp so that they can pull it in increments instead of the entire weight in one shot
Instead of having people pull the tarp why not just tie the ends to a couple John Deere carts and stretch it with some wheels and torque
Because that wouldn't tear the living shit out of the field.
The cards use the carts to lay it out but do the rest by manpower
or install pulley systems on either side of the field?
have them roll it out and roll out the wires to pull it towards the in field...?
The carts would tip
The handles are made of rope so they would snap
When does the bat boy offer help
9:57 the bat boy offers help
12:18
Nothing the grounds crew could do there. That rain picked up SO fast.
That's why I love the Rogers Centre, precipitation in the area? Close the roof!
10:04 at least there was one player helping!
I Love Baseball But I Hate Rain During Baseball Games at Any MLB Stadium!
I wish the players would help. The grounds crew looked like some 40 or 50 year olds with Skechers, when the players are 20 or 30 year old super athletic people with cleats.
It'd be hilarious if after all of that, when they finally got the tarp on the field, it immediately stopped raining lmaooooooo
Maybe if Greg Gibson was motioning to them, they could have gotten it earier
Edgar Duchesneau Or maybe if the Dodgers were celebrating in their dugout it would have gotten done quicker.
You think if a fan ran on the field to the tarp and helped them put it on, they would still arrest him? Or give him a baseball bat? lol
probably both, and just escorted out.
2:19 Best thing I saw today was that rain delay/gmc ad
They got to pull all at once
I know they have a tough job and I have total respect for all grounds crews in MLB, but this exact same thing happened when the Royals were in New York in 2013. They rolled it out in good shape, but by the time they began pulling it over the infield, it became too heavy for them to pull due to the accumulating water.
TrueBlueRoyal, The grounds crew is in poor physical fitness and there are too few of them to do the job for the condition they are in.
David Hoffman you know nothing about grounds crew work. They can work circles around you
I’m glad I read comments first. You all just saved me!
the Yankees just wanted to win the game the easy way. lol
These broadcasters are very disrespectful. Ground crew has a very tough job and they should have supported them not laugh at them.
they probably are supporting them, just making a comedic standpoint to keep the broadcast entertaining, just get a comedian in there and make it even more entertaining
Chris Feng support what? they failed miserably, nothing to support.
It’s their job to do that and if they can’t do it effectively they’re not gonna commend their work. They should be better trained.
Absolutely nothing the Grounds crew could have done... That rain picked up so fast and they had no time to run the tarp out. Do you know how heavy those tarps are PLUS now there is water on the tarp.
Lol the broadcasters
"Look at that rain. You see the wind whipping the rain across the field" they sound like they've never seen that before
they got the tarp on and that's when the rain stopped lol
3.41 riders of the storm is fitting lmao
awww man!
Talk about a bad day at the office...
If it was a Phillies game, that tarp would be on in no time, because the Philly Phanatic would do it himself lol
Yup LOL!
Im a Texas ranger fan but you are absolutely right phanatic is a jack of all trades i love him
2:20 Wipers on the video board, lol.
It's sience, dry and wet doesn't mix there's no friction there if the field was wet they would of been able to cover it fast
wow. the struggle is real
even if they could get it over it it cam down too fast to do any good for them. they need an automatic way to getting them on and off . Even if it means more than one tarp to do it. either that or a cover /roof on the stadium that they can close up if needed. much fast than a tarp.
Note to self built a freakin roof we have the technology
would of be awesome to see 100 fans come running in from the stands to help
thats entertainment
that time of july is always terrible
Why do they wait till its already pouring to pull the tarp out??? 2 mins earlier and the rushing wouldnt be needed
If this was the 2018 Yankees all they would need is geancarlo Stanton and Aaron judge and it would be on in an instant
I have a diploma in landscaping. If the grounds crew is still looking for help up there, I'm looking for a job.
All they needed to do was ask for some of the crowd to assist, they could easily manage the amount on the field but I'm sure 20-30 extra guys could have done it if they'd asked early enough. What a mess.
They finally get the tarp over the field and the rain stops
this is more interesting than a normal baseball game
I was imagining a little boy dressed in a batman suit was going to offer help.
All that had to be done was have a couple dudes stand under the tarp as it is pulled over them right from the beginning of the pull creating a bump for the water to roll off.
They should have used that cart/car thing to pull the tarp over the field
I just spent 14 minutes of my life watching 50 people try to pull a tarp over a felid. This is why we have roofs. What has my life come to.
Was this the game where they were delayed til like 2:30 in the morning?
Millions of dollars to play a game and being in the best physical shape you'd think that the pretty boys hiding in the dugouts would possibly lend a hand not stand there making snide looks and be scared of a little rain
Tyler Phillips do they get paid for putting a tarp over a field or to play baseball
I know, right? A 3.5mil contract is not enough to go out of their way to help the grounds crew!
Not in a million years! Not their job to slip and get injured and be out of the game or season! Come on! Use your head...
the second they injure themselves the second they can lose their job. also most managers do not allow players to leave the dugout at all
I disagree, if they get hurt doing something stupid like pulling a tarp, that could breach their contract
The guys laughing in the background.
They should make some seats in the front called “help seats” that are low priced but if it rains those people sitting there has to help the grounds crew if it rains or they’ll get kicked out.
Ryan Peduto thanks
why not use the mule to tarp out from the wall unrolling it then have power winches come from the other wall have the grounds crew pull the winch cables out to hook on the tarp then use the winch to pull the tarp over center field im sure a couple thousand for winches wouldnt be that big of a cost to Yankee stadium
Most exciting thing in the game
Common sense 1: Have the tarp rolled up in a place right where you want it to cover the ground when it's needed, and then when it's needed, pull out the tarp and unroll it there without needed to move it after rolling it out.
Common sense 2: When it starts to just sprinkle, bring out the tarp and cover it before it rains, or when it is just raining lightly. It's better to be prepared and have it easy than to not be prepared and struggle as in this video.
1) that is exactly what they did they rolled the tarp out to where it was needed and then unrolled it. the tarp was FOLDED in half. they had a problem unfolding the tarp
2) the groundcrew needs approval from the umpires to unroll the tarp. untill the ump says "yes" they can't bring it on the field. A storm can be heavier than expected. they think they'll get light showers but then it pours buckets.
Thank you.
but like three of those loops on the tow hooks of the toros
I am now going to search for a video on watching grass grow.
there s still a little spot not covered
Would've been funnier if they managed to get the tarp sorted out, only for the rain to stop straight away
Looks like the grounds crew.... is grounds screwed!!! AHAHAHAHA ....... I apologize.
I guess you can say will all the rain the tarp was "grounded"
Look like the tarp was down... Ok I'm done I got nothing
lol
Alvaro Lopez I should?
David Kerr lol
Who heard "Lets go grounds crew!"
I ❤️ Lightning
Wait... so is it raining?
idiot OF COURSE IT IS U ************
Nope
Nah gods just takin a piss
That sounds nice😄
what they need is JJ Watt
master death83 what they need is 5 JJ Watts. One in the direct middle, two at the two corners, and two between the corners and middle.
How did that happen so fast
That's why we've got a roof here in Milwaukee.
That's where I live
Would it be impossible to have it be able to be rolled right over the field? without having to move it one bit??????
I love how they kept rolling to watch the grounds crew! Most probably would have gone to commercial and played some crappy video.
Oh ikr
Can somebody tell me what day was this thanks
Look at description
What
7/23/14
I laughed when the old guy came out and he just pulled and moved it easily
Why don't they install a winch system that hooks to the end of the tarp and pulls it out?
Ground crew logic: Hey our team is winning so lets "struggle" with the tarp so the field is unplayable
I guess this indicates it's hard to find good help these days.
I dont think these commentators understand how hard it is to draw a fricking 50ft heavy tarp especially with water. They kept trying no matter what and these assholes did was to speak and sit back in shelter while they are fueling out to get the field covered. THE GROUNDS CREW DESERVE RESPECT. Baseball isnt baseball without the grounds crew not the commentators
i blame george constanza for this :)
When you try to roll up the wrestling mat
8:55 the fans are saying ''Lets go groundscrew''
Bro just tug it with that cart
Slick move to hand the Yankees a 2-1 win in 5 innings. I bet they would have gotten it done if it was the 6th inning and the Rangers were leading.
