Americans who know how to use a knife and fork! Amazing! I do not mean to be rude but many of these sites doing what you are doing show them actually picking up food with their hands even though they have cutlery in front of them ! Love your videos.

A couple of suggestions (if you haven't already tried) - steak and kidney/ale pie or pudding (in a pub), hot sausage roll (from bakery), hot Cornish pasty (ideally in Cornwall), Bakewell tart (tea room or bakery, esp. in North, Derbyshire), Cullen skenk (Scottish smoked fish and potato soup), Beef Wellington in a quality restaurant).

  • @suzannebaxter2888

Sorry but London does not have the best fish and chips you need to travel further north especially to the coastal area's. For one thing I have yet to eat fish and chips on a plate its always within the paper sadly they don't cover it in newspaper anymore not allowed. Whitby is phenomenal for fish and chips and the portions are so much bigger the further north you travel.
Yorkshire Puddings they come in all sizes but the way I was brought up with them is home made jumbo puddings and it would be on it's own plate with some onions in a rich gravy and we ate that first while the veg finished cooking and then we would get the meat and veg. Also what ever batter was left over mom would make extra puddings and then put jam in the bottom or she would halve apples place them face down and then pour the batter over them and in the oven they would go.

Ah, fish & chips at last! Made me laugh to hear Willa asking "Where are the chips?" When you're back in Germany, Yorkshire puddings are so easy to make. You whisk flour, milk and an egg together, then pour the batter only halfway into each muffin form in a muffin tray in which melted lard has been heating in the oven. Nota bene: put the tray in a hot oven for quite a few minutes so that the fat is piping hot. Instead of lard you could probably use Schweineschmalz. You can eat individual Yorkshire puddings with just about anything. One of my favourite fillings is scrambled egg topped with fresh prawns and chopped chives.

Those fish and chips (French fried potatoes to the non-British) looked delicious but I'm surprised you didn't consider seeking a restaurant that served them wrapped in newspaper- the original way these were presented.Of course, it started out as street food but I can't blame you all for preferring to sit down to a meal instead of having to carry it around while walking with a young child. Great overview of the Camden Market that truly looks worth exploring on its own for some hours. It's great seeing how they've CLEANED up London in recent years. For many decades it looked rather grimy due to the coal fires' soot coating EVERY building and structure! You said you didn't check out the Tower of London on this trip but I hope you do the next time you have more than a day there (and it's truly like its own city complete with pleasant parks among the ancient historic structures). So LUCKY England proved sunny for your trip! Thanks so much for this!

That aint fish and chips. Nobody goes to a pub and gets served a poor example of fish and chips, nobody goes to a pub and eats it off a plate with knives and forks. We go to a chippy, usually on the way home from drinking a lot of alcohol. A chippy is open late and usually Chinese. We may get fish and chips or one of tbe 100 diferrent meals available. The fish and chips or whatever meal we ask for is either wrapped in paper or in a styrofoam container, where you eat the stuff cowboy style with your hands on your way home. Believe me, these normal chippy meals, that we all use are much better tastier, and cheaper than going to a pub, and eating fake fish and chips.p

    • @johntoohey8502
      @johntoohey8502 2 года назад

Don't know who commented on this, they can't be from Britain and never had fish and chips. Many years ago , it was a cheap meal that poor families often ate. Now, the price of cod( a fish) has skyrocketed. A fish and chip meal which used to cost pennies now cost many times more, it's coming to the point where it is unafordable for the average poor family. If you're foreign and want the fish and chip experience, nobody in this country goes to a pub and eats it off a plate with knife and fork. That is fake, a lot more expensive and not even as close to being tasty as getting your fish and chips from a chippy, mostly Chinese or Greek, they are open until very late , you will pay cheaper and you eat them wrapped in paper on your way home after a night out drinking a lot of alcohol. No knives or forks, we eat it cowboy style with our hands.

I wouldn't like lemon or tartar sauce, either. It's salt and vinegar for me, perhaps with a little tomato ketchup on the side. The vinegar must be genuine vinegar, not the NBC (non-brewed condiment) favoured by fish & chip shops because it's cheap. I plan ahead and take a small bottle of Sarsons malt vinegar and the salt cellar in the car. Also, always try to get fish & chips to go in a box, not wrapped. When wrapped, the batter goes soggy very quickly (minutes). If no boxes are available, then at least a cardboard tray. The chippy might charge a bit extra, but it's well worth it.

Poppies is such a tourist trap, and expensive, there are much cheaper alternatives, you should have found a pie and mash shop as well

@@OurStorytoTell there are many Pie and Mash Shops about, I would highly recommend Goddards of Greenwich, but there are many more Manzies, Cookes, Cocknies all over the city, the only way to have it,and the traditional way is with what is called Liqueur and add Chilli vinegar

London has the worst fish and chips, much better in the North especially by the sea.

No way! Try fish & chips in Whitby. In fact, anywhere oop north is better than down south for fish & chips. And I'm from down south!

You don't know what your talking ( St Louis lX) about, fish & chips up NORTH is far superior to what passes for fish & chips down south, for a start you don't have curry sauce, mushy peas or gravy, lemon and tartar sauce, no thanks.
In a sit down restaurant you will also get bread & butter and a pot of TEA.

Most of the videos of yanks trying fish and chips show them eating it at a restaurant. Restaurants dont sell proper, traditional fish and chips. Chippies do. Why are yanks too slow in the head to find s chippy,?

bland! American breakfasts are awful. brush aside the tasteless pancakes and grits your left with crisper up streaky bacon an egg and some sort of round sausage. the only thing Americans can cook is steak.

British savoury meals are EXCRUCIATINGLY bland, just like French, Scandinavian, Russian, and Eastern European food. Straight out of the deep-fryer the only flavour that comes through is cooking oil, how delicious can that be?.
