Your whole vid is just rubbish! Fish & chips started by people from a far off place? 😂😂 Look north where it was a staple many decades before, an thats just one point. Deep fried mushrooms?????? YOU ARE HAVING A FIKKIN LAUGH 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Some notes: 1) Most people don't eat full english daily. usually, they're a Saturday or Sunday thing, and you'd probably have it as your breakfast and lunch that day. The FE is regional. It'll change from South to North England, Scotland , and Wales. Red Sauce vs. Brown Sauce is a continuous debate; some like both. Black/white pudding is not actually that common, nor is fried bread. They're usually optional extras you'd pay more for. Tomatoes can be grilled fresh ones ror tinned, toast white or brown, eggs scrambled/poached or fried. Bubble and squeak can be changed for hasbrowns, or in boojie places, sauteed potatoes. 2) People love pies, but usually, if we eat pies in a pub or at home, they come with peas/mushy peas, gravy, and potatoes of some kind. Pie, mash and liquor you tired is very much a 'London' thing but not something people generally eat outside of London. Usually, they have a pastry top, but you can order things like Shepherds pie, cottage pi, and fish pie that have mash and are not really 'pies.' 3) Fish and chips in Londonares are not representative of fish and chips around the country. It's always better on the coast. In the north its common for the to be fried in beef dripping whilst in the south they mostly use vegetable oil. Most people love their 'local' and are enjoyed usually on Fridays. You can eat it with mushy peas/ curry sauce/ tartare sauce. At a chippy, you'll likely find Pukka pies, sausages, battered sausages, fishcakes, pickles, pickled eggs, and other parculiar things. 4) People don't usually have large afternoon teas unless they're celebrating. Generally, if people go out for afternoon tea on the regular, they're just getting a scone and a cuppa. Great vid, loved that you involved locals.

@@HereBeBarrI like the fact that you have gone to some of the more working class district s of my home city of London, especially in the East End to neighbourhoods like Bethnal Green for E Pellici's. It would be good to see a video where you go to some other London areas to try some of the ethnic cuisines from all around the world. Brixton is great for Carribean food and Green Lanes and Dalston for Turkish cuisine. We even have a Chinatown in Central London near Soho.
Yes I'm 57 years old I always think it's odd if and when people eat a full Eb separately, probably should be sent to the gallows tbh haha. I also hate the far right immigrant line we see all over atm, when our British food is from people all over the world settling here, it does my head in, look at England football team, probably 70% from foreigners, but I love em all. Typically I find tourists, but usually Americans, pick terrible places to eat over here without doing any research and then lecture the world on how bland the food is - so glad to see you recruited so local guides!
UK citizens do the same in NYC,no research, just go to tourist traps they have heard about,or just go to fast food, then they say American food is terrible, and expensive.I am British, born, and raised, but live in NY,and it is upsetting when I see other British people saying the food here isn’t good, and I know British people don’t like it when tourists say British food is bland.Even here in the comments British people are being negative about London food, and I know that there is good inexpensive food to be found in London, and just in case you think I’m a Londoner,I’m not, from Birmingham, but I know that in a city the size of London, there has to be good reasonably priced food to be found.
Hash browns up until around 15 or so years ago were not a part of a full English. They started being added in the 90s after McDonald's started selling them, then because shops like iceland and farm foods started selling bags of frozen hash browns, for about £2 for 20, they were a cheap item to bulk the plate of food out for pennies, to make it look like you were getting more for your money. If i get a full English after 11am i will request chips with it, as i dont like hash browns, to make it more of a brunch. If i order one before then ill ask for an extra sausage or egg instead of the hash browns. Ill always have bubble if its on offer though.
I wouldn't actually call those fried potatoes hash browns. I know that's how they're marketed but traditional hash browns are something totally different and much more delicious. I never saw mushroom on a full English I was also surprised there wasn't any white pudding?
You know bubble was never on a breakfast in the days I was raised in England, bubble, and squeak as we called it then was something we ate for our tea,and a full English often had kidneys on it, black pudding were proper sausages, not those disks you have now,and when you cut them open, there was chunks of fat in them to keep them moist, though I always pulled the fat out,and discarded it.😊
@@JanetBrown-px2jn yeah, bubble and squeak is still a teatime meal, but if it's on the menu I'll have it with a breakfast aswell. You do get decent sausages from some places, or if you make a full English at home, but a lot of cheaper places use cheapo sausages nowadays.
@@JanetBrown-px2jn I've seen those disks on a lot of breakfast plates black and white. I grew up in an area of mostly German immigrants where we called it blood sausage and it was like 6" fat sausage that most people fried until it split open. It smelled disgusting and it was all mealy inside. We had 2 versions, regular and sweet. The sweet had raisins inside. I never tasted either one.
hashbrowns shouldnt be on there, its criminal putting them on the plate. mushrooms just dont go with a fry either, mushrooms and eggs i'll never understand, its a combination meal, as in you should put a bit of everything on the fork together thats a beauty of a fry up, but mushrooms dont belong in that mix. Also to me you cant have beans and tomatoes, its either one or the other, those two dont mix together.
Jon, further on the history on a Jewish immigrant bringing Fish and Chios to London, it was due to dietary kosher laws. It wasn't easy to procure kosher meat, and fish ( excluding shellfish) was a good choice.
Great picks! Everyone raves about that fish and chip shop, great choice in Gigs, there's a pub around the corner that let's you bring it in to have with your pint! Well done on eating the eels & black pudding, rather you than me & thanks for appreciating how much immigration had played a part in making our food special. 😀

@PSYCHIC_PSYCHO An English breakfast usually comes with alot more than that. 2 x toast 2 x hash browns Beans Fried mushrooms Black pudding 2 x eggs 2 x sausages. GIGS fish and chips, know it well, I used to work in Goodge Street Tube station just around the corner, had this at least twice a week. Christopher the owner knew me and my colleagues well, lovely guy. Great meal
It used to make a lot of difference, but nowdays most cod is from Norway or Iceland, so inland places get the same cod as the coast. Then it is whether you want northern or southern type extras.

What a great video Jon. London is such a great city like New York. The two best for me. I think you covered all the traditional UK Foods there. Although I have never seen anyone eat a scone like a burger before with two hands. Unique that. You split them in half with your hands and eat them. Nice with. Hope you can visit again and maybe do a Northern part of the country. Superb work as usual. The best NYC RUclipsr in the business. If you’re new to Jon’s Channel you won’t be disappointed. The away you built that scone, cream & jam then munched it with two hands was hilarious 😂! You just need to spread the fillings on one half at a time.......then stick the whole half in your mouth 😁🤣
I don't know why but a full english is a treat I get from time to time when Im visiting from Germany. I just love the unusual iron-y flavor. GB is expensive but it's worth it once in a while. good vid mate

Great video Jon! I have to say, the best afternoon teas I've ever had has been in 5 star hotels in Dubai! They are totally next level! Love the channel!👍👏👏👏♥️
As an english person you dont deep fry mushrooms in veg oil for an english breakfast! You either pan fry in butter or grill if you want to be healthy. Also bubble and squeak should not be mentioned in the same breath as a full english.
Hot take: we need to take a page out of that last place’s book… Too many establishments in the United States are overly casual these days. Sometimes it’s nice to dress up.
It's quite easy to remember that it's jam first! You get a knife to spread the jam and a spoon to pile on the cream. That's from a Cornishman, whose county invented this.

Hmm, except for the black pudding, the beans, the mushrooms, the burnt tomatoes and the fake hash brown triangles the breakfast looks good. The eels, maybe. Sarsaparilla is illegal in the US. Thank God you didn't put curry sauce on the fish. Long John Silver's has malt vinegar, but probably isn't in New York. Buy premium loose leaf tea and learn to brew it correctly. It's an experience.
After living in the US for twenty years it still baffles me how Americans struggle to use a knife and fork. From the off watching him pile his fork up and then at the last minute he turns it around the wrong way and awkwardly shovels the lot into his mouth!
The full english makes perfect sense for active people that need to start the day properly and fuel up. “eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince, and dinner like a pauper”.
1st time I have ever heard of a bit of bubble and squeak on a full English. No way does that Girl cooking look like she is 52 . She is so charming and funny as well ❤ xxx
How long have you been here? "too bloody long" is the quintessential British answer to that question. Given it myself to hundreds of questions over the years.
He can get that anytime he likes in NY,so no need to sample that,by the way we call salt beef corned beef, not the stuff in tins, brisket that has been corned.
To be clear, the cheap price is for take out orders. not dine in. You can see the price difference in the menu on their website. Will try it out in a few weeks😉
That fish and chips iis amazing. For me me keep the mushy peas and curry sauce etc. All good fish and chips needs is salt vinegar and some tartare. Although admit i like a little ketchup.
Love the London edition. Fabulous places to visit and i loved all the food except black pudding…lol. And I have to say, never ever ever put the cream on the scone first ….😂..❤❤❤
We have Cod and chips in the United States too. We have battered Alaskan white fish, we have battered haddock, we have battered Cod we have battered flounder, and so on and so on😊
When I go to Devon, the best pork sausages I’ve ever had are from a farm in Exeter called Greendales Farm . Just plain good old days pork sausage . Nothing fancy . Nothing so far compares for me
Ok.....I think it's finally time to cross this city off my Bucket List......That English Breakfast sounds AMAZING......Especially after a London Pub Crawl

Great video! But it's got to be vinegar on first. Then the vinegar catches the salt. 🤣 My family debates this often, half say salt first.
Bubble and squeak i used to have every Monday with a Fry up, loved it
After living in the US for twenty years it still baffles me how Americans struggle to use a knife and fork. From the off watching him pile his fork up and then at the last minute he turns it around the wrong way and awkwardly shovels the lot into his mouth!
Great video Jon.... I think I'd skip the eels, but the rest, 🤩(Especially the Afternoon Tea). 😊
You missed the most iconic of all British foods, Chicken Tikka Masala! 🤣
I think he was looking to try iconic British foods, not something he can get on most streets in NYC.
Love the London (British) content 🙌
Gr-r-r-eat 🤗 London has killer spots my boy @HereBeBarr HOPED YOU ENJOYED it ALL 🇬🇧 I know i sure did 👏🏻👏🏻👍🏼
the humble savaloy should be on the plate from time to time.
The full english makes perfect sense for active people that need to start the day properly and fuel up. “eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince, and dinner like a pauper”.
If you ever want a Yorkshire food tour Jon, I’ll gladly take you round for some classic northern eating!
A far better culinary experience than down south. Show him what fish and chips should really be like, fried on dripping, with scraps.
@@willscottytv That’s what I’m talking about. Yorkshire Puddings need to be on the menu up here of course!
I’m down 😝
I get it's for the experience and IG shots, but god damn. 83 quid per person is madness the afternoon tea 😂
Most definitely!
i applaud my man bringing out the Brown Sauce
1st time I have ever heard of a bit of bubble and squeak on a full English. No way does that Girl cooking look like she is 52 . She is so charming and funny as well ❤ xxx
At Manzes it's all about the double double and well done for remembering to flip the pie and chilli vinegar it up 👌
Awesome video, really injoyed this
lovely video, thank you.
How long have you been here? "too bloody long" is the quintessential British answer to that question. Given it myself to hundreds of questions over the years.
The afternoon tea is fantastic !!! Maybe the next stay on your journey could be Berlin ?
Curry sauce is a must with fish and chips. Very popular in Wales
Can't believe you didn't have a salt beef bagel from Beigel Bake, Brick Lane Bakery🤦♂
He can get that anytime he likes in NY,so no need to sample that,by the way we call salt beef corned beef, not the stuff in tins, brisket that has been corned.
I get my pie'n'mash online and delivered from Manzies, the packing of it is wonderful, and its delicious.
To be clear, the cheap price is for take out orders. not dine in. You can see the price difference in the menu on their website. Will try it out in a few weeks😉
Bubble and squeak with the fry up yeah you get points for that
Scones shouldn't really be eaten like sandwiches. And btw, it is jam first!! (The late Queen ate her scones this way)
Love it ❤️❤️❤️
If you blinked you could have missed where Gigs is. Even if you didn't it's not that clear where it is.
Oh I need to douse my chips in vinegar not just a little 😂 And I absolutely have ketchup with my fish and chips; plenty of us do.
Fast food places could put malt vinegar in as condiments but people wouldn't use it so it would go to waste.
That fish and chips iis amazing. For me me keep the mushy peas and curry sauce etc. All good fish and chips needs is salt vinegar and some tartare. Although admit i like a little ketchup.
Pie and Mash:Food of the Gods
Love the London edition. Fabulous places to visit and i loved all the food except black pudding…lol. And I have to say, never ever ever put the cream on the scone first ….😂..❤❤❤
You got a new subscriber ❤
Just sat eating my cod and chips!!!
We have Cod and chips in the United States too. We have battered Alaskan white fish, we have battered haddock, we have battered Cod we have battered flounder, and so on and so on😊
Barr, highly informative.
When I go to Devon, the best pork sausages I’ve ever had are from a farm in Exeter called Greendales Farm . Just plain good old days pork sausage . Nothing fancy . Nothing so far compares for me
Bubble and squeak, fries with a breakfast, and what the heck is that black pudding stuff ??
Ok.....I think it's finally time to cross this city off my Bucket List......That English Breakfast sounds AMAZING......Especially after a London Pub Crawl
Love Pellicci’s, full English with side of banter.
