Americans' views of British food may be a lot harsher than those of the citizens of England, but general perceptions of food from different countries can be hugely biased; for instance, there's far more online hate and vitriol directed at France than any other country, while the perceived quality of Mexican food is generally held in high regard. Plus, many English viewers may hold Engish-based prejudices related to those fried pasty components of traditional British cuisine which Americans may see as unappetizing (think battered fried chicken). The tea part is fascinating. If you go to a traditional kopitiam (coffee shop) in former British colonies of Malaysia and Singapore (and certain parts of Indonesia) and order a cup of teh (tea), you will automatically get tea with milk (and sweetened). I’m an ABC(American Born Chinese) born in the early 70’s. My parents grew up in Hong Kong. I grew up drinking Ribena, always available in Chinese grocery stores and still available in most Asian markets in America. I even find it on the shelves of American grocery stores in the Asian food aisle. Rowntree gums are also a favorite black currant sweet of mine. Yum!💕 Excellent chance of finding these in your local Chinatown markets in America 😊😋

It's such a pity that blackcurrant was banned in the United States for many years, due to it possibly carrying a disease that could harm certain trees here. The Federal ban is over, and some states now permit growing the plants, but the flavor has never really caught on here because it was nipped in the bud due to the government restrictions. I've had the pleasure of enjoying blackcurrant kvass from Ukraine and blackcurrent-flavored Jelly Babies and loved them both. It's like grape, sort of, but better! Will have to see if I can get Ribena at our local European expatriate market! I'd never paid attention to it before, but I'm sure I'll love it -- as much as I do Yorkshire Gold!

Asia is not a monolith, don’t think that it’s the same everywhere in the continent. If you go to a traditional kopitiam (coffee shop) in Malaysia or Singapore and order a cup of teh (tea), you will automatically get tea with milk. If you want tea without milk, you have to specifically order it as teh o (tea without milk).
