Lower income households found different ways to make affordable food taste good. It's deserved. But none of the rich people care, or probably even disagree with their take. They pay more so they don't have to be around the peasants and it's also a status symbol. Probably also not super packed all the time either.

the "miracle" behind the noodle is that its a noodle made from a plant that has little to no carbs. So it allows people with celiac or who are following keto to eat similar style noodle dishes without worrying. It became very popular a few years ago as an alternative. The actual name is Shirataki noodles, Miracle Noodle is just a brand name that became the defacto name used when referencing the product since it was the one which gained such wide spread popularity
The miracle is that you can eat a lot of it without gaining weight/having your blood sugar shoot up. It's not for people who actually need the calories, or who hate the digestive effects of the noodles.
The only thing miraculous about those noodles is the amount of money stupid people who follow TikTok trends will pay for them. You can buy the exact same item in any Asian grocery for a fraction of the price.
@@MarkDeSade100 A lot of soba noodles have wheat in them. People with celiac have to be very careful with that. For some people, even the tiniest amount of wheat causes huge health issues.
As others have pointed out, raw milk is not pasteurized or homogenized. There were dairies in my area that used to sell it, but they quit about 20 years ago. Since it is not pasteurized, it must be produced under the strictest of sanitation as there is nothing to kill any bacteria that may creep in (that's why it costs so much). Since it is not homogenized, the cream separates and rises to the top so you have to shake it really well before pouring it or, as Uncle Roger found out, that first swig tastes REALLY good as he was just getting a big dose of cream!
Yep, and when it isn't produced under the strictest of sanitation standards someone will very quickly find out why we invented pasteurization in the first place because a bad batch is basically the worst food poisoning you can get.
i don't see why dairy being unpasteurized is a selling point for some people, but I do love eating the cream off pasteurized unhomogenized milk and yogurt
@@vin2164 When I was a kid, I couldn’t drink pasteurised or homogenised milk, for some reason, so we had to buy raw milk. No idea what it is that’s different exactly, but while I was fine drinking raw milk, my body reacted to pasteurised or homogenised milk as if I were lactose intolerant. Not pleasant. Since you couldn’t get raw milk in shops back then (at least not where we lived), we had to buy milk straight from a farm. Because the milk wasn’t homogenised, the cream would rise to the top, and even when shaken well, there would be little blobs of milk fat floating around in it. I absolutely loathed it, and to this day cannot stand cream or milk fat in general. Never been happier than when I discovered as a teenager that I could drink normal milk again.
I remember seeing somewhere a while ago like those home birth, crystal mums being obsessed with raw milk. And a bunch of them were like getting it in really sketchy ways for cheap which is 100% gonna make them sick because according to them pasteurising it takes out all the good stuff. I’m pretty sure they were giving it to their babies too as an alternative to breast milk which is not right at all.
In rural Bavaria you can get it directly from the farmers (they have to label it with "heat before consuming" because of EU law) and it costs like 1 euro for a liter 😅
The richest flavour can be seen in street food. The poorer you are, the richer flavour you get with your food 🔥😂🤧 - Uncle Roger, Josh and Ollie, 2023 Can’t agree more! 😆🤧👏🤩
This is obviously true, but mostly because "street food" - especially in the poorest districts of the world - is extremely poor quality, and requires lots of salt, sugar, spice etc to mask the taste of what is frequently spoiling or even "recycled".
There is one near me in my hometown. My son and I walked through there and were absolutely horrified at the prices. Needless to say, we walked straight to the Trader Joe’s down the street. The store is by the studios, so that tells you everything you need to know. If studio people (actors, directors, producers, etc) want to be stupid and spend $20 on a smoothie then that’s on them. This store makes Whole Paycheck look like Dollar General.
I'm from LA. Erewhon probably started with good intensions as a heathy grocery store with products you couldn't find elsewhere. It has always been expensive, but it wasn't until it became trendy that it turned into the official douche bag grocery spot.
What scares me the most is this kind of healthy store is unusual and that expensive in the US. Honestly, every decent city in France has multiple "Bio" groceries with such healthy products 5 times cheaper. I would be scared to live in the US and get forced to eat Walmart chemicals.
As someone who personally loves watching korean englishman/jolly and uncle roger/mrnigelng this is my dream collab (even though they already made a collab before)
Tbh I wouldn't mind seeing a place that sold überexpensive items *_IF_* their quality matched their price tags. *_That_* place however reeks of the classic American "a fool and his money are soon parted" dumbasserry, spiced up with ultra-hipster pretentiousness. Complete and utter garbage. The pizza at effing *Costco* looks far better than that joke of a pizza, and that's already a pretty low bar. Would much rather get a good $4 NY slice, or share a decent Detroit or Chicago pie.
Loved this one guys. One point on the lavender lemonade: when Josh says "and it isn't fizzy"; lemonade in the US is almost never fizzy and is commonly just lemon juice, sugar, and water. What you call lemonade in the UK is closer to what we call something like Sprite or other lemon/lemon-lime sodas.
@@rachelcookie321 No Sprite is just a soda brand here in the usa. Lemonade is a drink made from lemon, sugar and water here in the usa. If you ask for lemonade here you will never be handed a sprite.
@@rachelcookie321Not in the Americas. Lemonades in North and South America are almost never carbonated, and only made with lemon (or lime in central and south America) juice, sugar, and water. As the other guy said. In a LOT of countries in the world, Lemonade isn't a soda.

I always forget that the UK calls Sprite and other similar lemony sodas "lemonade". When they were like "it's like lemonade but it's not fizzy" I was like "what?" and then remembered. Here in America, "lemonade" is lemon juice (preferably fresh squeezed)+ water + sugar + ice(usually). Such a strange thing to me but I'm sure they think the same the other way around xD
There is a restaurant called the water library in Thailand. They used to have water from all over the world and you can taste test them sort of like wine testing. I thought it was silly, but surprisingly, when we tried fancy water vs cheap bottle water, we really could taste the difference. The cheaper water tasted more bitter and it didn’t go down as smoothly. It was such a weird experience, but you really can tell if you taste them together.

Those 2 Asian noodle dishes were both made with Konjac noodles which are meant to be a healthier alternative to regular noodles. That's probably why they didn't taste good because it's diet food. Same with the "pizza".
@@johnnyhaze4605 the point is they are for people who are on a diet or want to be seen to be eating healthy. That's why the pizza wasn't good because there was no pizza dough and the noodles had no sauce or flavor because that's a lot of extra calories. To me diet food and health food in general just doesn't taste good because they are making too many compromises.
Given how expensive everything is, I wonder what the store does with produce that is not sold and is close to expire. Organic foods expire quicker and depending on foot traffic, I am pretty sure they won’t sell all their produce.

Wow who knew Uncle Roger was so awesome out of character? Or that he was so stylish.
the "miracle" behind the noodle is that its a noodle made from a plant that has little to no carbs.
There are better noodle options for celiac people already, like rice noodles or soba.
People eat shark and guano but I don’t see anyone trying to imitate those to eat.
You seemed surprised the lemonade wasn't carbonated, but in the U.S. lemonade generally isn't.
In the UK, when you ask for lemonade you will get something fizzy like sprite. :)
in some places, "lemonades" are like sodas.
@@Lord__Emrysthat sounds amazing, I’ve never had a carbonated lemonade. Like the first comment said ever lemonade in the US is flat
I thought the same thing! I’ve never had carbonated lemonade.
@@gameblendingreality You 100% have to try fizzy lemonade at some point. It’s so good.
The richest flavour can be seen in street food. The poorer you are, the richer flavour you get with your food 🔥😂🤧
- Uncle Roger, Josh and Ollie, 2023
Can’t agree more! 😆🤧👏🤩
This is obviously true, but mostly because "street food" - especially in the poorest districts of the world - is extremely poor quality, and requires lots of salt, sugar, spice etc to mask the taste of what is frequently spoiling or even "recycled".
I died here haha
A lot of poverty foods were the cheapest, toughest cuts of meat. Like brisket, oxtail, or tongue. But man they taste good when properly prepared.
Street food is a stupid term. And poor food is just empty calories for the most part
Public Safety Reminder: Chinese street food is cooked with gutter oil. It's worse than it sounds.
Lmao! I've never heard whole foods called whole paycheck. Quite apt! 🤣🤣🤣
If this is the one by the grove on beverly, i remember it was ecpensive but not exorbotant like this one
@@noelsamson876this is probably Culver City. I like that Trader Joe’s (must be the biggest?) but never been inside that Erewhon because husband 😅
"If there's a Zombie apocalypse no one is going to raid this store" Lmmaaaaaaoooooooo
I'm from LA. Erewhon probably started with good intensions as a heathy grocery store with products you couldn't find elsewhere. It has always been expensive, but it wasn't until it became trendy that it turned into the official douche bag grocery spot.
Never heard of it that’s Whole Foods here
@@angrybob8126We used to have "Whole Paycheck" in Augusta, but it went out of business in short order.😂
JD, they went down the road to Douche-baggery for sure 😂
Tale as old as time
What scares me the most is this kind of healthy store is unusual and that expensive in the US. Honestly, every decent city in France has multiple "Bio" groceries with such healthy products 5 times cheaper. I would be scared to live in the US and get forced to eat Walmart chemicals.
Never noticed how good-looking Nigel is until now. What a handsome man.
Love the idea that Nigel just keeps the Orange polo poised and ready to go!
Nigel using all the energy he can being Uncle Roger to eviscerate Erewhon.
As someone who personally loves watching korean englishman/jolly and uncle roger/mrnigelng this is my dream collab (even though they already made a collab before)
Never thought there would be a supermarket where the pricing makes Whole Foods look like American 7-Eleven meets Dollar Tree.
Stellar comment!!!🎉🎉🎉😂
Lmao 🤣
lol
Tbh I wouldn't mind seeing a place that sold überexpensive items *_IF_* their quality matched their price tags.
*_That_* place however reeks of the classic American "a fool and his money are soon parted" dumbasserry, spiced up with ultra-hipster pretentiousness. Complete and utter garbage.
The pizza at effing *Costco* looks far better than that joke of a pizza, and that's already a pretty low bar. Would much rather get a good $4 NY slice, or share a decent Detroit or Chicago pie.
and whole foods has way better food lol
2:40 u can see the slight shock in Josh’s face after seeing the price on the receipt before the cut 😂
Uncle Rodger is the perfect person to bring to bash Erewhon and I haven't even watched this yet
Ollie tasting the $25 water: "It's almost like it's all bullsh¡t!" Exactly, Ollie, EXACTLY.
Ollie and Nigel snickering @ 1:55 is just so cute and funny 😂
Loved this one guys. One point on the lavender lemonade: when Josh says "and it isn't fizzy"; lemonade in the US is almost never fizzy and is commonly just lemon juice, sugar, and water. What you call lemonade in the UK is closer to what we call something like Sprite or other lemon/lemon-lime sodas.
You don’t call sprite lemonade?
@@rachelcookie321 No Sprite is just a soda brand here in the usa. Lemonade is a drink made from lemon, sugar and water here in the usa. If you ask for lemonade here you will never be handed a sprite.
@@GuzmanLaBelica but lemonade is a type of soda.
@@rachelcookie321Not in the Americas. Lemonades in North and South America are almost never carbonated, and only made with lemon (or lime in central and south America) juice, sugar, and water. As the other guy said. In a LOT of countries in the world, Lemonade isn't a soda.
True, truer, truest! At least in the good old USA, a fizzy lemonade is not lemonade. It’s 7Up or Sprite.
Ollie: "It tastes like soap water!" Ollie: takes another swig LOL, you guys are the best!!
Doing a Korea tour series with Uncle Roger would break the internet.
Watching another jolly episode is my medicine to forget all my worries and sadness for the day. Thank you for always serving such good and fun content, love you guys so much
the prices meet my eyes water omg and ollies reactions to the purple juice is hilarious
Never been to America, but after countless reviews I have seen I'm starting to believe Erewhon is a place where seasoning your food is illegal.
I suspect that there's a large group of health nuts that associate "clean" "fresh" flavours with healthy. What's the cleanest thing of all? Pure water. What does pure water taste like? Nothing. Hence the healthiest food shouldn't taste anything. Right? :P
Where *cooking* your food is illegal. Why must "raw" and "vegan" be on virtually everything? Didn't human invent fire and cooking for a reason?
I'm FROM America and I'll tell you for free you're completely right lol. I grimaced when they said "keto pizza." They were always in for a bad time.
Erewhon is only around the Los Angelas area around 5 in total. Only for rich people with no taste.
It is the MOST expensive total crap! People just go there to be "seen" - like it is cool and It is SO NOT Cool!
Uncle Roger in Korea is gonna be a whole lot of fun! Cannot wait!

The charisma that these guys exude is remarkable.
Josh roasted by Uncle Roger is the funniest thing to see 😂 I'm waiting for this moment Jolly brings Uncle Roger
10$ for 1/4 of a pecan pie, that means they sell a whole pie for 40$ by the slice, that is absolute robbery
think about how diffucult and expensive opening up a grocery chain in todays economy/market would be... not a momnpop place like an official "chain" like EREWHON... my guess ultra wealthy conlogromote who doesn't care and probably has a way to A) still make money with HIGH prices B) doesnt really care cuz its all some scheme to launder money/write off on taxes when the food goes bad idk..
Interesting look into what goes on at that store and so nice to see Nigel and Uncle Roger again! If you decide to do a trip to Korea with him, I would LIVE for that series!
Only 2 minutes in and Ollie is shocked at the cost of raw milk. Hilarious considering how much he has spent on spam 😂
🤣😂🤣
I can get raw milk freshly milked from the cow like 5 minutes from where I live for less than a 10th of the price .. criminal pricing. xD@@giraffesinc.2193

Better spent on spam (if you know what to do with it) anyway. Because spam musubi is delicious. 🤙

Always a treat to see them in the States probably my favorite series
“If your girlfriend likes this place, dump her.” - Uncle Rodger 😂 Great reunion.
Love Ollie’s facial expressions 😂
you always know what Ollie thinks of anything he's tasting. the face gives it all away.
The audacity of the place selling Pecan pie at $10/slice....
Thanks, guys, for always bringing joy.
Love that Uncle Roger himself showed up! 😂
Well you have to remember now Nigel lives in La now.
That "pizza" reminded me of the pizza you'd get from a Lunchable
The Lunchable would still taste better and it DOESN'T COST $15!!!
“The fact the first thing you taste is celery.” Hahahaha!!!
celery overpowers everything though...
@@OlJackBurton celery doesn’t have much of a flavor at all. Even in a mirepoix the flavor is subtle you almost miss it.
Omg yes please korean tour with uncle roger!! Always fun seeing him in your video. The level of witty and roast of him and ollie is a blessing hahaha
"Do rich people not like flavor?" Coming from a Brit! 😂😂😂
good British food is excellent. And that’s coming from an American. I’d take a British sausage roll over anything in this video any day
@@nickywags0712I think most people who don’t make a million plus a year would take British food over this bland overpriced crap any day😂😂
@@nickywags0712 I'm not British nor American. I've found British snacks (biscuits and tea (drink) take the cake (pun intended) but America has better cuisine. I tried Taco Bell for the first time yesterday based on a RUclips video and it was nicer than I was guessing it would be (only similar food I've had is homemade mince with nachos) and I have had American foods that weren't sickly sweet.
Can't wait for more unk Roger videos. He's so humble, and fun perfectly matches your guys' energy
Now Uncle Roger and Jolly in Korea is something that HAS to happen! And also remind me nover to go where you have just been 😂
Our lads torched this place, and I have never been happier.
Nigel is hilarious on his own but I 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 when he became Uncle Roger
5:32 I think raw when put in front of milk means the milk is unpasteurized which.. you know.. makes the milk not entirely safe to drink
I love it that you're posting more often again! Love every single one of your videos!
I feel like Nigel and Ollie are on the same wavelength lol
9:05 😂😂😂I love how it turn to uncle Roger instantly. The character changed lol 😂
Hey Josh and Olly, you probably won't read this, but I just wanted to say I am a new big fan of you guys. I discovererd you sometime this year when the highschool series popped up on my feed. And soon I saw more videos, and I was hooked with you guys. First I did not even realize you had two channels. But now I'm following both Jolly and Korean Englishman, and also Gabbie's channel. You guys always bring a smile to my face, and I am craving real Korean food now thanks to you.
I tried watching ALL of your videos from the past, starting with the oldest. With Jolly I would say I watched two thirds of your videos now. Korean Englishman I still have a lot more to watch.
Keep it going please.
And if you happen to read this: Please start a series comparing school lunches from around the world, that would be super fun!
See you jolly soon!
Ah, the small laughter Ollie and Nigel shared...same humour😂
My gosh, 19$ for a smoothie. That's more than enough for sushi in my city. Arguably much healthier and more filling, and still worth the dollar.
that is such a ripoff, you can get like 3 milk teas or smoothies for that price, or any food
Thats 1 week food supplies for single person in my country..😂😂😂
Why is sushi so expensive in your city? Here one sushi restaurant chain sells 8 pieces for $5.70. I think the most I’ve probably spent is like $10.
@@rachelcookie321I read it that they meant they could like go out to eat at a decent sushi place with that much money. If you’re just getting something like a grab-and-go sushi yeah it would be cheaper
In my country, $19 will get you 20 portions of rice + gravy + veggies + chicken. I am not even kidding.
The problem is they go from great southern BBQ to cardboard pizza
Ophora water is from the "Dachstein" region in Austria where I live - it gets filtered a few times, then shipped halfway across the world, and sold for a small fortune. We literally get it for free from the tap. 😂💸 Must be the *exclusive* journey that makes it so special.
"If theres a zombie apocalypse nobody gonna raid this store" 😂😂 peak comedy
Those 2 Asian noodle dishes were both made with Konjac noodles which are meant to be a healthier alternative to regular noodles. That's probably why they didn't taste good because it's diet food. Same with the "pizza".
i mean they could season it properly, but just like uncle roger said, rich people doesnt like flavor :p
there are so many asian dishes with Konjac noodles.. so that is no excuse.
@@johnnyhaze4605I bet those r much better with just $3
I’ve had Chinese konjac snacks, didn’t know what they were, but found them fine. But they were sticky as heck.

I think that was when Nigel Ng was based in London. Last I heard he moved to the Los Angeles area.
Given how expensive everything is, I wonder what the store does with produce that is not sold and is close to expire. Organic foods expire quicker and depending on foot traffic, I am pretty sure they won’t sell all their produce.
They run it over with a waste veggie oil powered steam roller so the poors and homeless can't have it.
I bet they use it in their fresh cooked foods and smoothies just before it's "sell by" date. That makes the most sense.
There are plenty of idiots and idiot celebrities who will shop there, so they don't have to worry about that.
Erewon is always extremely busy
I'm here for you 3 on a Korean tasting tour!! Yes!!! Such great episode!!
I Love you Guys and Uncle Roger! With all three of your reactions to that food, heating it up more than likely wouldn’t make it any better! I don’t understand how a store can charge so much for bland food! I Love your videos! God Bless from Caldwell Ohio USA!
I used to have to go to this store to buy certain health food items but even back then, things were way too expensive. Once other stores started selling those same products, I was able to get them for cents on the dollar.
