As an American who lived in Ghana for a bit, my all time favorite was grasscutter (cane rat) and fufu. It was so delish! It tasted like the most tender roast beef stewed with celery, carots and onion. The palm wine was devine and wished I could take it home with me but it can't be transported, its too effervescent and will explode. Also had great grilled tilapia, tiger nuts, fish stew with fufu, , goat stew and goat kabob and antelope. The yam was like potatos but too dry for me. I tried so many different kinds of yams too.
@@goldktgal Fufu here in Ghana is eaten with soups not stew. I think there’s a difference between what the West call stew and what we call stew. Stew here is mainly made of tomato paste and is much more thicker than soup. We have lots of stews here made with different ingredients; okra stew, kontomr3 (a type of leave) stew, garden egg stew, etc. Soups however are watery (think of the soups that comes with noodles) and we have a different types; light soup (made with a tomato paste base), groundnut soup, palm soup, okra soup, green soup, etc. Fufu eaten with stew is mainly a Nigerian cuisine.

Since the announcement that you guys brought Buvna to Korea, I’ve been revisiting all of their videos. I forgot how chaotic and wondering this was!! And yeah, it’s nice seeing more of Ollie. Hopefully he isn’t behind the camera too much for the Korea series! But either way, these videos are just so uplifting and valuable. Thank you guys for bringing us all together by celebrating different cultures!!!
In Korean Englishman, it’s more documentary-ish so Ollie is incharge of that. He wants to capture the moments. That’s his forte. Sometimes he’s infront of the cam if there’s enough people to take videos but on Buvna series, majority .. only Luke and Ducky taking the videos. I’m sure ducky and Luke are great with cameras but since Ollie and Josh started Korean englishman, he knows what’s the right angle, theme for particular series/episodes. And here in Jolly, its more relax so Ollie can be infront of the cam and have Luke (and Grace) in charge for taking the videos (I believe, Luke is one of the producers and one of the editors of Jolly)
Ollie: 'There's only one tail per turkey, presumable' At that very moment, you can see josh thinking 'you're an idiot' while biting the turkey tail lmao
These 4 lads together never fails to make me laugh so hard every single time! When Ollie shakes the rice 20:45 I just can't breathe anymore LOL! Grace's laugh in the background is always a blessing hahaa!
4:46 Ollie: *Ain't no plantain high enough* Barney: *CACKLES* _just when you can't laugh any harder_ Ollie: *She'll be coming round the plantain -* _Everyone in the room dies laughing_
It’s not actually an allergic reaction per se, but that is a defense mechanism of plants to prevent predators from eating it! We have selectively bred/engineered the spicy-tasting fruits of plants over decades to be spicier because we just don’t care about the hurty defense mechanisms :)
It's not just that we don't care, we're deliberately making their natural weapon stronger just so we can (figuratively) stab ourselves with it. We are a strange species.
Also, If you are unable to feel pain (some people have a thing were they can’t feel pain and it’s bad because they are unable to tell if they’re hurting themselves) then you can’t taste spicy food. The taste of something spicy is literally you feeling pain so if you can’t feel pain then you can’t taste spicy.
Not only that, we also deliberately poison ourselves for fun (alcohol) and use pesticides to get high (Nicotine is actually a natural pesticide). We are, indeed, a strange species...
OMG AS A GHANAIAN, HE DID EVERYTHING SO RIGHT! This made me so happy! I watched this with my mum and we were laughing so much! So proud to see Ghana represented on this channel! I hope you visit one day and see the place in person. That would be amazing
To clarify: turkey is not angry chicken in German. It's truthahn, and the hahn is a male chicken, so not far off but the "trut" is either from the old german word droten (now drohen) which means threaten or from the sound hunters made to imitate turkeys. Anger is Wut so maybe there lies the error. Greetings from a German jollybean
Thank you! Me, a German, just asked myself for the rest of the episode, what he meant because Truthahn didn’t made sense to me, not knowing the origin for Trut 🤯
I'm Nigerian-American and I grew up with this type of food, like jollof is literally in my fridge rn so to have these two wonderful people introduce my culture to some of my favorite RUclipsrs has truly made my day 💗
14:03 to answer Ollies question on how they grill the fish without it going dry, they basically just wrap the fish in tinfoil while in the oven so that the juices and oils don’t escape
No they don’t. They first put it on the grill raw to roast both sides for some time and then they take it off and put the spices around and in it before putting it back on the grill. After putting it back on the grill, they use a special brush to add more of the spicy sauce around it during very short intervals to prevent it from drying out until it is done. That is why it has that dark colour. It’s the spices on the skin of the fish which prevent moisture from leaving the fish.
@@nuellaaaa sorry, I wasn’t specifically talking about how they cooked that fish, I was just saying an easy way to grill fish and still have it come out moist and not dry since that’s how I grill my fish. But ok✌️
I'm from South Africa and I thought we are the only ones that eat peanuts like that!!!! When you put peanuts in your hand that shaking motion just happens automatically! Love to all my African people!!🇿🇦

This is probably the best episode of Jolly ever. Just a couple of guys hanging out trying Ghanian food while just sharing jokes and having fun. Loved it.
I never knew that Ghanaian food and Filipino Food have so much similarities. We also eat a lot of tilapias and okras. And we also have a dish that's also a peanut soup with beef or lamb and vegetables in it called "Kare-Kare"
As the daughter of a Southern Mom, who raised me properly on Southern food, I was properly scandalized they had no idea what Okra is. Clutched my pearls and everything. Bless their hearts.
Josh seemed to know okra though? Okra is also used in many Asian cuisines, including Chinese, and Josh lived for a while in China (his dad is also half Chinese although I don't think they cooked a lot of Chinese food at home since it seems Josh's mom did most of the cooking). Ollie was the only one clueless - at least of those in front the camera.
I never thought I'd see Jolly trying Ghanaian food, gosh! This is a dream come true! Thank you so much for being so gracious towards our food and actually liking some of it. I'm so so happy
As an African, I can't express how happy this made me :D The way Josh and Ollie so effortlessly connect the world and different cultures on both channels is like medicine. And it's always a laugh! Buvna on Jolly is A+ laughs!
FINALLY! I am so happy the crew has tried West African food. I have always been fascinated by the similarities between Korean cuisine and some AA / African cultures. Very happy to see them exploring something new and BLACK
Jollof when I went to Ghana was definitely competing with my Korean favourites, I'd say I prefer it to Kimchi Bokkeumbap- which would mean it's maybe my fav rice-main dish. Schwarma was the bomb as well, and I never tried the doughy looking dipping stuff but it wasn't because I didn't want to, looks like such a fun way to share a meal.
@@Tridentus that’s called fufuo and it is a pounded yam dish, the texture is kinda like mochi or a stiffer mash potato. it’s great with sauces or soups!
I thought plantain was a sort of banana, anyway, Ollie has eaten so much stuff he is allergic to, he'll probably survive. At least he made us laugh eating it.
Tubers grow in the ground. Plantains, like bananas grow on a tree. They are nutritionally classed as starchy foods though, I think that's the cause of confusion.

I came here after seeing them in Korea and this is genuinely one of the funniest videos I’ve seen in a while, they deserve the trip the chemistry between the 4 of them is absolutely hilarious
In the Philippines, we have "banana chips". They're similar to the fried plantains, but using different kind of bananas. They're good snacks. One of my faves. ;)
When I looked up the comparison between saba and plantain. I realized that plantains also have different kinds in different locations. I remember India also makes banana (maybe plantain) chips.
I love how these guys are so receptive to Josh and Ollie's comparisons to what they have experienced, trying to genuinely introduce them to their beautiful culture. I'm Southeast Asian and so a lot of these ingredients and cooking concepts from West Africa aren't very foreign to me, but when I usually try my friends' from other cultures' cultural dishes and compare them with something of my own cultural sphere, I'm usually made fun of for seeming ignorant which makes it seem like their cultures aren't open to curious learners which I know isn't the case. But here, these guys are genuinely trying to teach them about the dish, the flavours, and what is super cool to me is how they are constantly asking Josh and Ollie their first thoughts and perspective on every dish before explaining what the dish really is or how it is made. Beautiful.
These two have to be the best characters you guys have on the show. Don't get me wrong. Every guest is great. These two are just the best. We are ALL waiting for a Korea trip with them. They are so hilarious and Ollie just works so well with them comically. Love the vids!
"shake the peanuts and eat it with style" Ollie- "I cannot do that" Ollie shoving the whole chilli paste in his mouth. "Shaking the rice before eating" 🤣🤣🤣
The combination of these 4 guys makes for such good content. Their energy together is unmatched! Even the production staff can’t keep it in. We want more!
Cuban here, I never knew African cuisine was so alike ours. We have that malt drink too, the plantains for sure, the fufu (we make ours with plantain) and okra stew (which like Ollie, I don't really like, it's certainly an acquired taste) but all in all, this was so fun to watch.....hope Ollie survives the plantain experience.
In Ghana we have plantain Fufu as well; it’s a matter of preference. We have Fufu made with yam, cassava, cocoyam. Typically, we pound cassava and mix it with plantain, to achieve a ‘united’ fufu.
I know Buvna have their own thing, but I could honestly see the four of them travelling the world trying new food. So fun to watch them! I was smiling during the whole video!
I'm Ethiopian and I noticed a lot of similarities like how we love malt drinks and open the bottle, throwing peanuts into the mouth. I also couldn't help it to notice the background music at 6:15 is actually Ethiopian music, loved it.
I'm just gonna jump the gun and say that this is the best JOLLY episode you guys have ever made (and you've made some pretty amazing ones). I truly had so much fun watching it!
As a German I can say that turkey is not angry chicken 😂. It is „Truthanhn“, I have never heard Trut as a word but „Hahn“ means rooster. All I found about „Trut“ is that it is a mythical creature that sits on the chest of sleeping people and cause nightmares, thight feeling and shortness of breath. We also have the word „Pute“ but it doesnt have a meaning, we just use it as a cuss word for entitled women 😅
Best. Jolly. episode . EVER. Bar none. I knew 10 minutes in, I was crying and cackling and it still got better! I bet editing was difficult but it was soooo WORTH IT!

@@mohammedzubairu8436 Yep. We have to defend our countries right?😅...

In colour and in taste. I don't think you guys have that special Jollof spice. looool
I tried so many different kinds of yams too.
fufu is Nigerian
@@christopher6697 Good to know. In Ghana, they had fufu with most of the stews.
@@christopher6697 Nigerian fufu is a bit different from Ghanaian fufu.

This put a HUGE smile on my face. So happy to have Buvna back.
Thank you guys for bringing us all together by celebrating different cultures!!!
same!!!! im on a Buvna run currently!!! ive been laughing so much
In Korean Englishman, it’s more documentary-ish so Ollie is incharge of that.
Ollie: 'There's only one tail per turkey, presumable'
At that very moment, you can see josh thinking 'you're an idiot' while biting the turkey tail lmao

@@MarkDeSade100 your interpretation is so good 😂
Also, If you are unable to feel pain (some people have a thing were they can’t feel pain and it’s bad because they are unable to tell if they’re hurting themselves) then you can’t taste spicy food. The taste of something spicy is literally you feeling pain so if you can’t feel pain then you can’t taste spicy.
I love weird = human science facts, thank you!
Not only that, we also deliberately poison ourselves for fun (alcohol) and use pesticides to get high (Nicotine is actually a natural pesticide).

So, it not Angry Chicken, but Threatening Cock...

But ok✌️

As the daughter of a Southern Mom, who raised me properly on Southern food, I was properly scandalized they had no idea what Okra is. Clutched my pearls and everything. Bless their hearts.
I’m from Georgia and I was like wait a minute slimy they’re saying okra 😂😂
Josh seemed to know okra though? Okra is also used in many Asian cuisines, including Chinese, and Josh lived for a while in China (his dad is also half Chinese although I don't think they cooked a lot of Chinese food at home since it seems Josh's mom did most of the cooking). Ollie was the only one clueless - at least of those in front the camera.

In the Philippines, we have "banana chips". They're similar to the fried plantains, but using different kind of bananas. They're good snacks. One of my faves. ;)
In Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand too! =D
Hearing tilapia was a pleasant surprise too, such a staple in Philippines.
When I looked up the comparison between saba and plantain. I realized that plantains also have different kinds in different locations. I remember India also makes banana (maybe plantain) chips.
we also have it in vietnam as well
In Brazil too! It's a super tradicional snack over latin america, how interesting... 😆
Grace’s laugh in the background adds that extra bit of laughter. It’s just amazing hearing it and knowing, yep that’s Grace.
Beautiful.
Barney being a Jollybean just makes this video even better.
These two have to be the best characters you guys have on the show. Don't get me wrong. Every guest is great. These two are just the best. We are ALL waiting for a Korea trip with them. They are so hilarious and Ollie just works so well with them comically. Love the vids!

Thought some Cubans are from african descents??

As a German I can say that turkey is not angry chicken 😂. It is „Truthanhn“, I have never heard Trut as a word but „Hahn“ means rooster. All I found about „Trut“ is that it is a mythical creature that sits on the chest of sleeping people and cause nightmares, thight feeling and shortness of breath. We also have the word „Pute“ but it doesnt have a meaning, we just use it as a cuss word for entitled women 😅
He has probably mistaken it and made the "Truthahn" a "Wuthahn", which kind of translates to "angry chicken" :)
That's neat to know. I wonder if the effects of tryptophan are why they used a legendary creatures name.
