I've had one of these a year now and use it with the FX6 and FX9. It's an incredibly versatile lens. I use mine mainly for corporate office and green screen shoots. The image quality and auto-focus are exemplary. You can zoom at a barely perceptible speed, which is a dream for seated interviews.
Sony needs to remake the G OSS 28-135 to match the newer features of this new lens. I love my 28-135, but I do have several issues with it. This new 16-35 fixes 100% of my issues with it. Having a matching set of these zooms is my ideal 'budget' cinema set up right now -- a kit fee I can negotiate with clients who do not have the $$ to rent equipment.
@Zchary Mills ! G OSS 28-135 is F factor lens, and no T factor. Is not of Cine category. No light transient control. You love it for its focal length. All quality Cine lens' are of this rage to keep its price lower. Look for Canon Cine 30-300 lens costs around US$45,00; Fujinon Prime Vista Lenses each also costs around the same. Price factor keeps focal range low.
The optical quality is the same between this lens and the FE 16-35mm f/2.8G, except now you have more common cine functions on the lens such as better manual control, geared rings for follow focusing, a power zoom and the use of T-stops.
Been waiting to see what this lens will be like for a while now! The first two questions I had weren't addressed: 1. Is it truly Parfocal (in manual mode)? And 2.What is the Breathing like- at wide and tele...
Sony states it is near parfocal or acts as if it is parfocal. It is not a true parfocal lens. Breathing is said to be well controlled from early reviews. Thanks! -Joey P
I bought this lens for use with a FX6 that is still on back order. I have had a chance to use it with my old Sony A7SII, and it is a fantastic cinema lens, but I will not get the full effect of its capabilities until I finally get my FX6. My five-month wait continues...
This is a robustly built lens just like Sony's other Cinema Series lenses. But SONY does not list weather this lens is weather resistant or the materials of the lens body components. >Mark
Thank you so much for this review. I was wondering, is it possible to add a mist filter into the lens or do I have necessarily to use a matte box? Plus, is it possible to add a filter into the mattbox or is it better to buy a new one? Thank you so much!
I would have loved to hear something about the minimal focus distance. On the SELP18110G for instance, its really far when you're in Full MF but ok in AF/MF, weirdly there is a difference.
What Cinema zoom lens with the power Zoom that will work on the Blackmagic Design Studio Camera Pro 4K that goes to 15 mm to 400 mm or more that is very affordable with the thread
This SONY lens is an E-mount and not compatible with the Blackmagic Design Studio 4K Pro which requires lenses with Micro Four Thirds (MFT) mounts. We can offer you no compatible lens with a 15mm to 400mm zoom range. Consider the: Panasonic Leica DG Vario-Elmar 100-400mm f/4-6.3 ASPH. POWER O.I.S. For 45k, it’s a steal

Yes! I've finally found footage of the FX6 using a servo lens. Thank you.
I just wanted to let you know, that your video convinced me to purchase this lens for my FX6. Thanks again.

Nice shots. Thanks
Isn't this essentially a 16-35 f2.8 gm rehoused for better manual focus control? Or is there an optical improvement?

@@BandH The optical quality is superior I feel. The flares are way better on the cine lens
@@WalterTheBalter and the breathing characteristics/parfocal ability are much better too

@@audiovisuals360 Yes. It is my personal preference, and the price was not an issue for me.
Can you comment on the build quality of this lens?
1. Is this an all metal construction?
2. Is the lens weather and dust resistant?

I want it! Get it for me!
Thx for the vid. May i ask what kind of videogead you’re using on that gitzo?
BH IF ITS 3 pounds ... why didn’t you use a rail system for support. Wouldn’t the weight of this lenses break the mount... please explain.

waiting on the in stock email and both will get purchased!
Is there a longer zoom lens like this one that goes up to 200 300 or 400 more
I am afraid not. SONY does not offer any cine zoom lenses in these long focal lengths. >Mark

Would you recommend a lens support system for this lens with an FX6?
@exeterweathermodification watch he probably meant rod support
Can I use it with Autofocus on the fx3?

Might be a dumb question but does anyone know how this lens matches with the Sony G Master line ex 24 1.4 gmaster

I'm sorry but for a rehoused stills lens that price is bonkers. Yeah yeah, I get it, servo zoom...but dude.
what fluid head are you guys using? and what tripod? 0:26
Had anyone been able to mount an FX6 with this lens on a DJI RS2 or RS3
This should have been
24-105!!!!
A 24-105mm at T3.1 (equivalent to F2.8) would be way too big.

@@makosports yeah and bulky considering the range
Nice, but overpriced. Nothing you really couldn’t get from a sigma zoom. Also, looked really cold, but that could just as well be the fx6.
Widest FF zoom sigma has is a 24-35 and is also 5k.
