Crawford Priory is an impressive, Gothic mansion, started in 1809 and extended a few years later, but now a derelict and deteriorating shell. The present building replaced an earlier house that dated from the middle of the 18th century, and had a sumptuous interior. Crawford Priory was built for the unwed Lady Mary Crawford, who in 1808 succeeded to the Lindsay-Crawford property and lands, on the death of her brother, the 22nd Earl of Crawford. Mary never married but she did have a large menagerie of animals, both pets and wild, in and around the mansion. Crawford Priory, a large, once sumptuous but now ruinous baronial mansion in landscaped grounds of the Crawfords, near Cupar in Fife. Crawford Priory (Leighton et al, 1840) After her death in 1833 and a splendid funeral, the house fell empty and dilapidated, although Lady Mary had left provision for the animals in her will. The mansion was then restored in the 1870s after passing to Lady Gertrude Boyle, daughter of the 6th Earl of Glasgow, and her husband Thomas Cochrane, but it is now derelict and ruinous again. The grounds are said to be haunted by an apparition of Lady Mary.
It’s a shame that such a lovely old building has been left to fall into ruin. It has obviously been magnificent in its day. I can see that the architecture there has been stunning.
Can only believe how elegant this was back in the days. Was surprised to see the staircase still intact yet, the rails were unique. Just wish the inside would be a little more together. The outside is still beautiful. I love seeing the old castles. Thank you for the video and tour. Tc ALec.
It must be amazing to see these structures in person and think of all the history! The stonework is beautiful! It is amazing to see that grand staircase still standing with the large window alongside! A great drone adventure! I’m glad you were able to find it! Thank you!
What a beautiful old ruin. Oh Alec, I love it. I can only imagine how nice this beautiful building must have been. Glad you found the drone. That would have been a very expensive loss for you guys.
Now that's a proper Scottish Castle, I would love to see the Grand Staircase as it was when it was first built, how magnificent!! And the whole grounds are just beautiful, such a waste to see it deteriorate in Time. Well, ashes to ashes, dust tp dust, naught lasts forever.... alba gu Brath, Bonnie Scotland I miss you so much
Great video Alec Been pass this place many times never thought to have a look now wifey seen your vid i guess you know what we be doing :) Thankyou for sharing it
A friend of mine used to visit when he was a child and the family still lived there but even then there were parts of the house that they weren't allowed to go to because the condition was too dangerous. The stable block is in better condition and the old curling pond still has rusty floodlights around it.
The current condition of this magnificent structure makes my heart hurt. So sad. I often wonder what happened for a place so beautiful to fall into ruin? Oh, to have seen it in its glory days! Great video work.
What a monumental waste if a fantastic building. Unless someone had very deep pockets this is then end to a architectural wonderful building. Such a shame
Thanks Alec, great explore. Love Rabs drone skills, subscribe says he 😆 lm sure I've seen this place before, is this a return visit ? See you next time Alioban x
Did you manage to get to the mausoleum where lady Mary Crawford and other relatives are . Plus you were only about half a mile from the abandoned part of Stratheden hospital
Beautiful ruins. Do you know if it burnt down or just slowly decayed? Or did the owners remove the roof to avoid paying tax? What is left is most decorative.
@@stevewatson5065 Thankyou Steve. Was the building in an occupied/occupiable condition before the fire, or was the fire more of a 'last straw' to an already derelict building?
Sarah strong it was in good condition and it had everything you needed for living in when I lived there as a child there were 35 monks living there although its history states there is no religious connection
@@stevewatson5065 Very interesting, Thankyou. Obviously the bit about having no religious connection is not quite right but maybe those who had it built did not have any religious connection?
Won't give any history on this one since the location and building has been given in this explore and anyone can Google if interested. I'm amazed that staircase is still standing after all this time with very little support, you're braver than me guys as I wouldn't go up there 😄 Cheers guys, till next time x 😘🫠 Ps: Loving the pics of you sitting on the hay bales at the end Alec, you look like Humpty Dumpty on the wall 😂😂
This is so stunning. It would be a dream to see in person. But the states are a long way. Thank you so much for bringing these sights to us.

It was set on fire about 25 years ago ,I used to live on the estate as a child then again as an adult
