Oh god... You really don't get the joke, do you? The clue is in the theme tune. He's stuck. That's not a good way to be. He's a joke, a dinosaur, he can't adapt.
What a gem of show this was...brilliantly scripted - mainstream, but slyly (and hilariously) subversive - and of course, memorably.. perfectly performed.... the saddest thing about current/modern UK television is the demise of comedy..particularly the sitcom - which has all but vanished as a popular genre....One Foot In The Grave shows how it should be done..and stands as one of the greats of all time
Loved this back in the 90s. I think it's one of the best British sitcoms ever, but it's not repeated much at all these days. 30 years ago it was a big show, and everyone knew the catchphrase. But now if you said 'I don't BELIEVE it' to most people under 35 I bet they wouldn't get the reference. Sad how good shows just fade to the distance in time.
I love this show, so much. Absolutely adore it. Have the whole series on DVD. Have watched it over & over. The two main leads/actors were wonderful. So good. So believable as a married couple. Sad to hear the actress who played Mrs Warboys has passed away. She played the part so well. May she RIP. ♥️
No-one can do justice to a comedic script quite like a classically trained dramatic actor - both Richard and Annette played it straight down the line and were hilarious with it.
Two of my favourite scenes are when the plant was put in the downstairs toilet pan, and when Victor was sitting in his armchair when the phone rang and he answered a puppy 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂.
This was good to see. Ive never seen their Outtakes before. My favorite BritCom. Every episode was so hilarious. She was just as funny and awesome as he was. The writing and acting was perfect!
To think, back when this aired, I thought that these 2 were old. Fast forward some 30 years later, and I find that Richard Wilson was only in his mid fifties when this was filmed.
Absolutely superb comedy, brilliantly written and acted, just the best ever! Sadly they will never ever produce comedy like that today, real people, real characters a testament to better times gone in this crazy mixed up country that's gone to the wall,We need to be reminded of what comedy was like👍👌🙂, well done!
@@DoctorVision I wondered this too...but apparently it is called One Foot in the Grave and Counting. It will be here by the Summer . It will be modernised and Victor will be grumpier than ever.
I agree, when they had taken the wrong suitcases abroad was a rediculous situation that happened to my family years before OFITG.Opening them in a French hotel , my father had taken a suitcase of assorted nostalgic childhood toys !.
The coastguards calling out ..."MRS WARBOYS .......MRS WARBOYS " in a Portuguese accent - just hilarious . And don't get me started on Peter Cooks' performance :)
The first time I saw One Foot was late on sunday evening, I couldn't sleep or find anything on network TV but I did see the listing for this coupled with Waiting For God. My first thought was that these 2 shows were a religious " sign-off " to the weekend, I had absolutely no idea that Waiting and One Foot were sitcoms. Yes, the writing and acting is 1st rate and still holds up today in my view. Favorite scene or episode? Impossible to choose. The first episode I saw was: In Luton Airport No One Can Hear You Scream, probably the very best intro to the series. Eventually managed to see the "final" episode too, I cried and laughed as the series finished on an absolutely perfect note. And yes, for several years I thought I was a cranky old man like Victor, but I have managed to outgrow that feeling.
I still watch these when they are available to be but these are so funny watching now when they forget there scenes wrong and I like the tune of the show too 😂
Hi! I’ve got to say it my favourite scene was when Meldrew argued and argued with the garage door man and thought he’d won the battle came home and confidently pressed the remote open button and the kitchen door raised up “I just don’t believe it”
Back when British television was watchable & had meaning. They don't make shows like this anymore. A good old British classic will never be forgotten despite these woke lefties best interests. I can so relate to Victor Meldrew. Bloody love that man. I often get called Victor Meldrew I take that as a compliment
No these were shown on Auntie's Bloomers back in the '90s I think and were repeated between programmes on digital channels, which is where the original user captured them from I believe.
One Foot and HIGNFY started in the same year 1990 and Angus Deayton got booted off the show in 2002 I think which was a couple of years after One Foot ended.
Who’s he comparing the car park attendant to when he asks if he’s married to a woman named Mavis? I can only guess Corrie’s Derek Wilton. A better comparison would be Frank Spencer- but his wife’s called Betty.
Typical BBC, make a series about a man who was a security guard and a woman who worked in a bakery, both with upper class accents living in a large house in an affluent area!
Victor and Margaret had also remained childless (due to their son Stuart dying as a baby), neither smoked and they barely drank alcohol, and both had probably been working for around 30 years at the time series 1 was set in, probably amassing reasonably good savings, in an era was housing was rather more affordable than it is today, so they would have got on the property ladder without too much difficulty.
It's not a particularly affluent area nor a particularly large house (maybe by your standards it is?). It's clearly just typical Southern suburbia. It's the same kind of world as Terry and June. A place where respectable people try to live relatively orderly lives. Before people splurged their money on expensive items, eating out, and the like, it was possible to afford a decent house.
As I get older, I appreciate this programme more and more. I really sympathise with Victor - the world has literally gone mad!!
Oh god... You really don't get the joke, do you?
The clue is in the theme tune. He's stuck. That's not a good way to be. He's a joke, a dinosaur, he can't adapt.
@@peterclarke7240 Is that the joke though? 🤔
Hey as long as we’re laughing I guess David Renwick has done his job.
@@peterclarke7240 As Richard Wilson himself has said, the series is about the foot that isn't in the grave, not the one that is.
My kids must be having trouble adapting too. They're even more alarmed than I am about our increasingly crazy world.
@@peterclarke7240 That's literally *not* the joke, as alluded to in the final last episode montage.
Arguably the funniest sitcom BBC ever made.Dark humour but so brilliantly portrayed.Victor was a legend

The fact Richard played the character so deadpan makes the bloopers even more special

best sitcom ever still watch these daily
Absolutely brilliantly writen and acted by them both. X I still laugh to this day.
That's a bloody long time to be laughing.

I like the waiting room episode - pure genius!
My two favourite series too 😂
"4-2-9-1?" 😂😂
One of my all time favourite tv shows. Well written with outstanding acting
My favourite sitcom. So brilliantly written and acted.
I just love the actress Annette Crosbie, she was so long suffering and so stoical about it.
She was always my favourite as a child, her energy is so genuine and pure, a truly beautiful soul
What a brilliant show this was. I must have watched it all 20 times over by now, and I still laugh and still love it.
The 90’s were just…. Better I guess
This was good to see. Ive never seen their Outtakes before. My favorite BritCom. Every episode was so hilarious. She was just as funny and awesome as he was. The writing and acting was perfect!
I love the way they all kind of stay in character.
They dont make them like this anymore.
Proper comedy.
Nostalgia is not what it was

I don't believe it!
One of my all time favourite comedy series! Still laughing out loud at this out takes!😂😂😂
I don’t think I’ve laughed as much to anything else. Tonic for the soul 😂
If you liked this, you should check out The Royle Family outtakes on my channel, they're hysterical.
Great series
I watch these again and again, they are as funny as the first time, just like other greats like Fawlty and Steptoe.
And Blackadder
The eggs for the unwell Mrs Warboys❤❤❤
Up there with fawlty towers as the best sit com ever brilliant
To think, back when this aired, I thought that these 2 were old. Fast forward some 30 years later, and I find that Richard Wilson was only in his mid fifties when this was filmed.
Yes and that was the reason why he nearly didn't take on the role at all. Fortunately he changed his mind.
And I'm guessing you are about the same age now, as am I. How did that happen?😮😮.....I don't believe it!!
@@DoctorVision He is a treasure❤❤❤
I'm so glad they had so much fun filming this program because it's one of the greatest ever. And it's been largely forgotten now.
We lost laughter on TV we need it back the comedy was fab in our days loads of it bless them all what we had I loved it.

When the hook fell off the door or he tripped over the boxes I was waiting for, "I don't believe it!"
I thought of Catweazle's catchphrase, "Nothing works!"
I just love this show.... so Iconic and apparently a remake is in the works......
Well I certainly hope not. How can you remake a masterpiece? However, a prequel I would accept.
@@DoctorVision I wondered this too...but apparently it is called One Foot in the Grave and Counting. It will be here by the Summer . It will be modernised and Victor will be grumpier than ever.

A masterclass by all concerned.
Thank god for this channel, has the best selection of comedy and doctor who content in all of youtube

''I don't believe it'' Victor Meldrew laughs.

Hi! I’ve got to say it my favourite scene was when Meldrew argued and argued with the garage door man and thought he’d won the battle came home and confidently pressed the remote open button and the kitchen door raised up “I just don’t believe it”
That was actually Patrick his next door neighbour as part of his gradual evolution into Victor.
Outtakes are way better a few decades after the show.
That was one of the funniest series I ever saw and I appreciate it more now i'm his age lol
The interesting thing about outtakes is getting to see how a famous scene would have been done subtly different by the actors.
My father, also called Victor, was Mr Meldew to a T!
At certain situations we would say he was, "Doing a Victor".
Both Anette Crosby and Richard Wilson were Scottish, and had to adopt accents for their roles in this show.
I thought the accent they had in the show was a Scottish one? And in fact I didn't think Annette did have a Scottish accent in real life.
Both Margaret and Victor were both in their 50s/60s when OFITG was aired
I remember when I was little as soon as this finished it was bed time 😂
Well I'm pretty sure it was on quite late so you were a lucky child 😂
always loved seeing Annette Crosby wearing overalls.
I really do miss the 90s for all these programs heck the 70/80s stuff as well. The BBC had so many greats but now doesn't have anything
Cool video

Lol "woke lefties". Most of the people I know who appreciate the show would probably be labelled as such by you, you've genuinely got no idea have you

Typical BBC, make a series about a man who was a security guard and a woman who worked in a bakery, both with upper class accents living in a large house in an affluent area!
Margaret worked in a flower shop and neither her or Victor are upper class.
Margaret worked in a florist
Scottish , not particularly upper class
