    I have a strange feeling this car is going to go through a similar situation as the LFA. Correct me if I'm wrong, but it seemed no-one really cared about the LFA when it came out. Now everyone loves it years later and finally appreciates it. I think these NSX's are certainly going to be the new "underrated" super car at some point in the future.

    • @frogogogo
      @frogogogo 2 года назад +77

      The reception of the LFA was tainted by its astronomically high asking price. No one doubted that it was an engineering marvel, but no one who could afford it valued it as highly, and as it was notably less powerful than its price competitors, it undersold tremendously. In 2017, the NSX’s was a similar story. I think most people who’ve driven or owned these are hard pressed to say that it isn’t a great car, because frankly, it is. Minus the somewhat tame driving experience, it performs extremely well. But for the price, there’s a bevy of better options. People simply didn’t want to pay Audi R8 money for a Honda. There was also a bit of bitterness towards the spirit of the car, whether it’s a ‘true NSX’ because of the electrification, etc. The Type S just improves upon an already wonderful machine.

    Everyone made fun of this car when it came out a few years back. It's too heavy! Overpriced! It's just a Honda! Hybrids are crap! Shoulda been a manual! I don't understand why the hate as it's a baby Porsche 918 for 1/10th the price. The performance is staggering as well. The NSX is reliable, has the ability to get an oil change or any service at any Acura dealer for pennies compared to it's super car rivals, all while being comfortable for daily use. I was one of the few that loved it back on release and still do even more now. I can't wait to see everyone change their minds on the second gen nsx in 5-10 years just like people did with the LFA.

    Great mention of the steering wheel, because it's something I think a lot of people may not notice how nice a good one can be! Acura has been impressive with comfortable, ergonomic, and well shaped wheels throughout the 2010s, that gives a confident grip and sense of control without being too spartan or aggressive to be comfortable while cruising long distances. You never realize just how much it makes a difference until you've taken thousands of miles upon it. My only wish for mine was that it was heated.

A sub $200k hybrid supercar compared to the competition that's in the millions and can still get excellent fuel economy. Sure it wasn't the top amongst those guys in performance but the tech was there. BMW had the i8 but that thing was nowhere near the performance of the NSX. I was torn for a long time about getting one, but for $185k, I just couldn't justify the purchase nor get past the cheap interior and the 6-year-old tablet-like infotainment system. So I eventually bought something else. In addition, while it performs handsomely on roads and tracks, its competitors, from Porsche, Mclaren, etc., can do equally or better with better interiors and technologies in the cockpit. With so many options in this price range, you'll need a lot of love for Honda to buy this car.

    It does not shift any quicker in Sport+ mode.
    When going from "Sport" to "Sport+" mode, the transmission downshifted. That resulted in higher engine RPMs, making the throttle seem more responsive (it is more torque-y). But it does not shift any faster. It simply lurches forward faster, due to the lower gear.

    Thanks for this video. I'd love to have this exact same car. Unappreciated except by those who know cars. Heck, even Chris Harris loves it for it's intended purpose: driving really fast.

    Honestly, this car did what it was set out to do and never did anything wrong. It used a very cool powertrain with a lot of practicality and reliability built into it. The interior is not covered in the most incredible interior, but it is still well put together and in a sports car, I could honestly care less for chrome plated door sills. The looks are good and this thing is so nice to see in person. The hate literally stems from the desire for a continuation of the original NSX, which was not going to happen.

      A lot of the initial hate came from reviewers driving pre-production cars that weren't quite sorted. People were already sceptical of the new gen due to the hybrid powertrain, and the early negative reviews about the driving experience cemented that bias for many. Unfortunately, all the positive reviews after its release (and the subsequent updates) didn't sway public opinion much

    I had a new 2019 model year with carbon ceramics brakes and other options. Got a hefty deal too from the dealer and got more attention than any lambos and ferraris driving around my town. One guy sneak up on me after parking asking what this was. Memories.

    This has always been a tricky one for me. This 2nd gen NSX was the first car I remember reading about where everyone who drove it had a wiiiiiiiiildly different opinion of it. I remember Automobile Mag loving it right away, Car and Driver and Road and Track being kinda lukewarm on it, and Motor Trend not feeling it at all, at least initially. For me personally, having been made a car guy from the 911, I really appreciate how steadily and carefully it’s evolved from generation to generation, and that evolutionary approach has made it easy to maintain a mental relationship with it. This, by its very name (New Sports eXperimental), can’t be that, and I’m not saying that that’s bad - it’s just not what I’m most naturally drawn to. Though I should disclaim up front that I’ve never driven or even ridden in one, I still find the powertrain tech to be overboard and little too much for a driver’s car. Personally, I wish they’d gone with a RWD setup with just the rear electric motor for boost/torque fill and ditch the front motors. Yes, you’d lose the AWD some of the handling tricks those front motors can do, but the return in actual mechanical feedback would be absolutely worth it imo. I will say, though, that I think the criticism these get can be too harsh. Cool that Acura decided to even develop this, even if it’s not what I’d hoped it would be.

  • @ethann4348
    @ethann4348 Год назад

    People be saying “oh I’d rather buy a 911 for the value rather than the nsx”. What people don’t get is that if you have the money to buy a supercar, then you have enough cash flow to buy another one. At this point, rich people buy whatever they feel like buying instead of looking at what is the best “bang for buck” option.

    Unlike its predecessor the NC1, this type s was redeveloped and redesigned by the Japanese. If the type s had been sold from the beginning, it would have been more popular and would have sold better and development costs would have been reduced. It was a huge mistake for Honda to let Americans develop, design and manufacture the NSX.

    If i were a $300 million dollar inaire, I’d probably prefer a McLaren 570S for the same amount of money because exotic.
    If i were a $1.5 million dollar inaire, I’d probably prefer an Acura NSX for the same amount of money because much better build quality and reliability.

  • @yyyyyeeeee4060

    The problem with the NSX is that there are so many "could have beens" with it.
    Do I think the NSX is objectively, a great car? yes.
    Do I think the NSX is subjectively a great car? No.
    The NSX has nothing that technology will not make obsolete. It has no Natually Aspirated engine or manual transmission to pull in old-world charm, its design, while pleasing, is anonymous.
    In the future, when the only cars you can buy new are electric, what will you lust after?
    The NSX with its Hybrid system, V6 soundtrack, dual turbochargers, and all wheel drive?
    Or the GT3 with is manual transmission, rear wheel drive, and glorious 9000RPM engine, perhaps the last of its breed.

    It's a good car, but corvette has similar performance and is twice as cheap, or you could get 911 gts, or 911 turbo and they would be as fast or faster. I feel like this car was always decent, but never a dream car material.
