    I was a police officer for a small town with a crazy fire.
    It was getting out of control and we were on standby to evacuate the city. The ENTIRE city. We had every fire department within 100 miles bring just about every truck they had.
    While I was scanning the fire channel I heard "vlat inbound 2 mikes make ready" I had no idea what the fuck their language was but I saw all the fire fighters start cheering like it was ending credits scene from top gun. Then out of total unprofessionalism someone played "Boom" by POD over the fire channel.
    No one was disappointed. Damn fine show of force

      I first saw aerial firefighting in 1961 when I moved to SoCal from the Midwest. Watched B-17s drop purple Borate on a chaparral. Brush fire near my home. They stopped using Borax-based retardant because it caused eye damage to firefighters on the ground and switched to Phos-Check.

      Back then , they thought they would never be able to use jets because they couldn’t go slow enough. Things changed! (Back then, fire season used to end by December instead of running all year long, too).

      INSTEAD OF LOADING WHAT COULD MAKE IT RAIN: Cloud seeding, the main type of intentional weather modification, began in the late 1940s. The basic idea was to use aircraft or rockets to inject silver iodide or another substance into the atmosphere to mimic ice nuclei. The amount of rain or snow a cloud can produce depends on a balance between the number of ice nuclei inside it and the amount of water available to grow around those nuclei. Clouds often lack naturally occurring ice nuclei, so injecting them with silver iodide particles (which are very similar in structure to ice) increases the number of nuclei. This makes the clouds more efficient at generating ice crystals that either fall as snowflakes or melt to produce raindrops, depending on temperatures in and beneath the cloud. Cloud seeding is also used to disperse fog banks near some airports.
      A more recent cloud-seeding technique is to use hygroscopic (water-attracting) particles such as potassium/sodium chloride to provide "seeds" for large droplets that fall more quickly, colliding with smaller droplets on the way and accelerating rainfall development.

    • @jillthompson1248
      @jillthompson1248 2 года назад

      @@jamesbuchanin4558 but I see no clouds If there were clouds then yes they should be all over that. You seem knowledgeable so you know ho they could possibly make clouds to seed Because yes a good dose of rain would go along way to stop this maybe a nice moderate shower that would last for a few days going from moderate to light and back again so it wouldn’t (hopefully) flood or flash flood or mudslide although mudslide would terminate any fire it came across Although it is pretty cool watching them

    Watched Calfire yesterday. the Glassfire was the big topic but no mentioning of the planes, saw some Blackhawks that´s all... We have the 747, a MD 11? A DC10, a Electra? and a Herc, what´s the smaller ones and did i get any named wrong? BTW, it must be cooler (regarding the risk factor) to pilot this 744 than being a Boeing test pilot of the model. That left turn of the DC-10 at 15:05... Sliding left. OK, not Electra but at the same time.. Orion.

      P-2 Neptune and P-3 Orion are both used as mud bombers, I'm not sure how to tell them apart. Not sure what the lead plane (ASM) that pops smoke at 17:09. It usually is a King Air 90 or 200 but this one almost looked like an Air Tractor AT-802 SEAT

      I looked it up, it appears to be a OV-10A Bronco Tactical Air Supervision

    I’m glad they got some large aircraft to do drops. Such as the 747. I know this is pure fantasy but I’d like to see a B-52 make those drops.

    747 and likes flying amongst the vallies gives a wonderful sensation. The fact is that the 747 are admired for their sizes down to the ground. With the mountains as the backgrounds, it looks so tiny and funny rendering the beauty somewhat toyish attitude. A thousand likes 👍 for it.

    May I ask why the gears down during drop from second aircraft? Is it because the airports so close?
    Thank you all for what you do to save nature and other humans.

    Poor forest management. These forest trees should have been thinned out, cut down for lumber to build houses. No one benefits from burnt trees. This burnt trees and brush only becomes debris for flash floods.

      Stupid comment. What are you against Forrest? If you cut all the trees down what's going to stop flash flooding. Where are animals going to live? Really do you want me to continue? There's not much sense in your comment. Unless you are from Asia and you want to kill everything.

    Why are the buckets hung so far under the helicopters?

    • @RogueAgentX
      @RogueAgentX 3 года назад

      Probably safer to sling them low for filling/dumping and more stable in flight

    • @raypitts4880
      @raypitts4880 2 года назад +1

      stops the bucket from rotating in the spiral down wash and also helps the air flow past for more lift
      a compromise is obtained to rope length from the above
