    Explanation why so much, unfortunately, failed in the run:
    The main reason was the RNG manipulation not working at the very beginning. He actually was prepared and had another DS on with the RNG manipulation already done but because it was on for so long, the time/hour changed, which also screwed up the RNG manipulation, which is an incredibly important aspect of the run.
    But because already more than 8 minutes passed, he decided to go with no RNG manipulation anyway. Because of that the whole route was screwed, many encounters happened, and he had to improvise *a lot*, on which he did a *really* good job on.
    He even had another backup savefile on another DS on a SouldSilver cart for after about 1 hour and 13 minutes, but because he apparently didn't have the right items on that cart he switched to, the final Red fight was pretty much impossible.
    He made the best decision and stopped trying and ended the run before going over estimate, which is really respectable. I also really respect how he tried his best to make this run happen after the all the unfortunate stuff that happened and even made it, in my opinion, quite hilarious with his and the couch's commentary.

      Given his past GDQ endeavors, I'd say that Keizaron is probably one of the best at making chicken salad out of chicken scratch. From what he was dealing with, he had a ton of improvising on the fly just to even get to Red in 2 hours, and deliver a great run. It didn't finish, but props to him on showing heart, as well as respect by not trying to go over estimate.

    • @FancySkunk
      @FancySkunk 7 лет назад +31

      The second DS he went to unfortunately didn't have the actual backup because the RNG seeding got screwed up. He made the decision to give up on getting the manip live because he thought he had the proper backup. I'm not sure what the best way to handle it would have been once he switched and saw it was wrong, but switching back to potentially 10+ resets to hit the manip probably would not have been good in the marathon setting.

    • @mkdasher
      @mkdasher 7 лет назад +44

      You didn't explain why Red fight failed correctly, it wasn't cause of items, it was cause of getting Hail during the fight.
      Usually, when you fight Red, you get hail, but there are specific dates where you get what it's called "Diamond Dust", and that avoids getting hail during the fight. Unfortunatelly this called Diamond Dust doesn't work when you change your DS date during the run, unless you are already at the peak of Mt.Silver.
      Keizaron changed DS clock on Blue for RNG manipulation. Blue RNG Manipulation is relativelly new and they didn't know it must be done without any clock change. There was another issue when setting up the backup cart that already would have made Diamond Dust impossible too anyway though.

      I would rather watch these games be done without RNG manipulation. Watching them with RNG manipulation is pretty much just watching a human manipulate a computer. It's pretty boring to watch to be honest and doesn't show any logical thinking in the strategy of the game. Which in this run showed - which was FAR more interesting.

    Keizaron continues to put on fantastic trainwrecks of runs at GDQ! I feel bad for him, but at the same time Animorphs is legitimately my favorite GDQ run of all time. The event isn't about having perfect runs, but to showcase runs for a good cause. Even with the heavy improvisation this was still a fantastic showcase run though, and one of the most entertaining of the event.

  • @RoyalRust

    In my mind marathons are primarily for showcasing runs rather than executing them flawlessly, if anyone wants to look up the current best recorded run then that's usually available so things going poorly in a setting like this isn't a tragedy. The commentary was solid enough that even though I've never seen a run of this game before (or even this game before at all) I think I've been given a fairly decent explanation of how the speedrun is supposed to go and why it's a cool thing that humans have done, so in that light the run more or less succeeded at its purpose. Kinda.
    Also the banter was top-notch, way to make two hours of walking and dialogue boxes entertaining.

    I like this marathon.
    Something I'm noticing from comments below is that a lot of people don't really know the difference between a Marathon and a Speedrun (tbh I didn't until a few days ago).
    A Speedrun is, well, a speedrun. You use a predetermined route to go as fast as possible to the objective. Usually there's very little room for error and I've seen runners either quit or reset after a few bad things happening so that they can attempt the run again with hopefully a better outcome.
    With a Marathon you can't do that. With GDQ as an example, you're slotted into a spot where you give them your estimate of approximately how long you think you're going to be, and before and after your run are other runners. Going over estimate by a few minutes is usually fine, but if you have an estimate of 2:40:00 and you go to 3:00:00 that's not good as that means the organizers will have to reorganize everything (though tbh, they're more likely to just boot you out at that point rather than let you continue). Even half an hour into the run where something goes bad, you're unlikely to see any GDQ speedrunners reset (I've never seen this happen in GDQ myself, but I haven't seen every video). With the start it falls into the fact that you're not there to do a speedrun as much as you're there for entertainment purposes, and there's only so much entertainment to be had when you're having to reset the console to try and get the frame perfect seed, which is why Keiz went with the backup, which he could do because it's not a Speedrun, it's a Marathon. Doing something like that invalidates a speedrun, but not a marathon. (Of course keep in mind that yes, if you do everything perfect first try in a Marathon and get world record, it is still a Speedrun and therefore you would still have world record, in case someone tries to say something weird in regards to that).
    In any case, my point is that while this was a trainwreck of a speedrun, this was such an entertaining marathon to watch. I love Keiz and his weird superpower to always somehow trip, fall, break a few bones, but still put up an amazing performance.

      to be fair..... gen 2 was great with two entire Regions to travel around and 16 Batches to earn....... but from a pure Gameplay standpoint was Gen 2 not realy great....... it beats Gen 1 by miles... but then again Gen 1 had the Special Stat Problem.... and you could pretty much Softlock the game on one of the last fights of the Game(even when it would cost a little to much bad luck as taht it would happend to someone...)
      from a Pure Gameplay standponint was gen 3 ore maybe Gen 4 better(in would say Gen 4 because.... the Two Bikes Mechanic in Gen 3 was dumb and pointless, and well it WAS to much water(witch infect the Gameplay in a way that you would pretty much encounter a shit ton of Water Pokemons) but overall i would say the second half of Gen 5 is the Best Pokemon Games so war(Black and White 2)and Gen 6 was pretty much a all time low that would go even lower with gen 7(Mega Evultions are completly Bulcrap and sun and moon is not a Real Pokemon game anymore)

      have you ever looked on your display while playing it? sorry but HGSS is horrible. it looks atrocious at least to me. they managed it to get chunkier animations than gen two literally twenty years older technology and the character sprites hurt your eyes. well atleast my eyes. sorry but gen 4 and 5 in general were atrocious. and it did not add anything to the old games. the new moves, pokemon and mechanics like double battle (gen 3) abilities (gen 3) physical/special split (gen 4) did not add anything to the games value. they did not make the game any more fun. they just give it the bland feeling like "oh well we have no idea how to make money let´s recycle the old gens, and use our new systems on them" seriously there was nothing in the game, that made me feel like the twenty bucks were well spent. well that game saved me when i was so broke that i literally needed ten bucks to pay my phone bill. but it´s sad if the best a game has done for you was saving you with the money you got reselling it.
      i love the classic gen two but all remakes were atrocious. i´ll maybe accept OR/AS as they at least tried and added something to the game with the delta episode and really made use of the mega evolution even embedded it into gen 3s lore. that was a good remake. can you tell me one thing that had any significance to the player? i think they raised the level of reds pokes by 7 pikachu lead is 88 instead of 81. and what about FR/LG? iron claw for charmander so even an idiot could go through brock. brilliant. erase all difficulties kids could have had. sorry but HGSS is utter garbage to me. didn´t mean to turn it into a rant, but well looks like i did

    • @weberman173
      @weberman173 7 лет назад +24

      and THAT my friends is a nostalgie freak that cant stand that his favorit Game of a Series is utterly garbage in comparison to the Remake...... the Animation where good in HG/SS the idea with the Pokemon following you was fun even when unnecessary. the Pokéathlon was a fun even when meaningless adition. the Sprint shoes did make the game much more enjoable in comparison to the Original where you was crawling for almost half the game (atleast half of Johto) the new moves where ok. double Battles did make the game much more fun due to the fact that you could no longer run trough the game with one Decent Pokemon because you would be screwed in a double battle. abillties where a little bit of the cheap side of new features but where nothing that woudl ruin a game for me... the Physical/special Split was the best decision Gamefreak could make after the split of the Special Stat into Special Defense and Special Attack in Gen 2... i makes just fucking sense..... having all moves of one type having either Phsical ore Special is just fucking dumb...... it just didn make sense that an attack like Fire Punch was Special because it was fire. ore that Dragon Claw was Special because it was Dragon.... it just didn make sense....

    • @Metalhammer1993
      @Metalhammer1993 7 лет назад +2

      i genuinely hate the gen four sprites. i literally started the game and thought "hey you remind me of my chinese friend ug lee" sorry i really hate them with a passion. gen four is easily the worst gen .and not even the fact it has a remake of my favourite gen can save that. that literally doesn´t make it better because to me personally the remake felt thoughtless what was added felt bland and forced. and it had oversights, that were just atrocious. how could Gyaarados get a buff like it did in gen four if you´re literally expected to catch one in the storyline? how could nobody see ,that this thing would sweep the entire game easy peasy lemon squeezy? i gave heart gold a second try after it being boring with gyarados, but it wasn´t better. sure it got more difficult because i actually had to use a team. which isn´t a bad thing, but it did notr improve the fun i had with the game at all. i´ve been very hesistant with the gen three remake after this and only bought it when i knew it had new content and it´s graphics weren´t exactly a sight to behold except for the few cinematics but weren´t bad either. i´ve learned my lesson with remakes thanks to gen four. it´s like covers of a song. it 99,999999999% of the time bad. but there might be a gold nugget like disturbeds sound of silence. HGSS belongs to the 99,9999999%. as i said the best HG did for me was saving me a lot of trouble because i needed ten bucks and had a game i could sell without any feeling of loss at all.

    Quick question, was there a reason Keiz was unable to manipulate the Red fight? Is it because hail prevents rng manipulation?

    • @Zsaver3
      @Zsaver3 4 года назад +3

      Yes and No. But it's not the hail that prevents RNG Manipulation. If I recall correctly, the manipulation actually puts the Mt. Silver Red Fight in a rare state of Diamond Dust, which is actually neutral weather. This is pertinent both because of the lingering damage that we saw on Raikou which immediately ended the first round, but because in Gen4 onward, Blizzard is 100% accurate in hailing weather. This allows for them to abuse Flash accuracy manipulation far more readily to manipulate the perfect red fight. But ultimately, after the Flash is up, the sequence of events is set up that he should not really need to heal, if I remember properly. Of course, with permanent hail in the fight, he inevitably would have to do so.

    What do they mean when they say stuff like "5 in 8" or "5 and 8"? Like about the Gengar at 1:32:xx

    • @gll447
      @gll447 5 лет назад +2

      That refers to ranged attacks (attacks with a ranged amount of damage), and there is a chance that if you hit the lower range you don't kill the enemy. For that particular fight 5/8 are the chances of the ranged killing the enemy.

    So what are the rules regarding cart switches?

    • @ischmarvispeedruns7502
      @ischmarvispeedruns7502 6 лет назад +6

      It invalidates the run. Normally he would have had to redo the RNG manip at the beginning over and over again which is not very immersive to watch. And as GDQ is not about getting a good, valid run to submit but about showcasing the game, he brought backup files where he already did the RNG manipulation (but everything else is the same). It's for making the game more entertaining to watch.
