- Aaron Barruga joined the military because of 9/11 and served as a Green Beret in the US Army's 1st Special Forces Group. Whether leading militia fighters in Afghanistan, conducting raids with Iraqi SWAT officers, or training foreign commandos in Asia, Aaron learned an incontestable truth about war: everything comes down to brilliance in the basics.
After leaving the military, he founded Guerrilla Approach LLC where he is among the vanguard of GWOT veterans that are modernizing contemporary tactical training for US law enforcement and self-reliant citizens.
Directed and produced by Jon Chang, American Gunfighter is an ongoing series produced by BCM featuring elite law enforcement and military personnel sharing their thoughts and stories about their profession and craft.

Great teacher and mentor for others. Aaron is a great example of what Special Forces can accomplish after the military. Proud of you brother.
The FieldCraft Survival Channel I love your channel even more seeing you supporting your other brothers!!
Accidentally left volume too high. Figured it out real quick once the belt-fed guns started going lmao
I saw your comment and went to turn my volume down but accidentally turned it all the way up. Oops
Plaid: The original “Urban Camo”.
Aaron still exemplifying why he is one of the best guys out there today in the training industry. He is the most honest and he is the most humble. Much respect brother.
I wasn't Special Forces, but I served in the military and spent time in the sand box. You brought up a good point about service members being lost after service. Not only lost, but mentally unhealthy. Personally, I had a hard time relating to people. I would work alot just to keep my mind busy. I didn't appreciate anything or anyone. I ended up having a mental break down, but it took that for me to appreciate my friends and family. Thank you for your service!
Aaron is a good example of a U.S. Army SF soldier. Personification of a quiet professional. I served in 10thSFGA 2nd Bn. A Co. ODA 212 and can testify to many guys just like him. Extraordinary times handled by extraordinary men. De Oppresso Liber. Godspeed.
yeah dude I was also in delta force, navy seals and SBS, ODA 22003

Wise words
Mrgunsngear Channel indeed
Mrgunsngear Channel I've seen your comments more often than i saw your video. in your channel RUclips for sure
Mrgunsngear Channel, much respect to you man, the one big gun youtuber that comments on other gun channels with out being afraid of pulling away from his channel.
Probably the best one of this series.
The realness and cleanly articulated perspective can be respected.
I love how it is subtly telling vets to go to fucking school.
IF that's what works for you! I feel like he's saying never stop striving for the next goal for yourself. Whether that be school, learning a new skill, going for that promotion, etc.
I think the most interesting part of his story is he didn’t have the military on his radar at all before 911
@@rifles_up2263 History repeating itself (1941) !!
Aaron your humility is what makes you special. I loved when you said i am not special. I’m just aaron. As a cop, i always tell myself that. Stay humble and me mike. This video was great. Thank you for sharing a feeling i always had!
Very profound words. I see so many veteran service members and retired Leo's that lose direction once they step away from the operational tempo they have maintained for years.
It is hard to let it go after spending more time in green that I did in jeans before I enlisted. About a week before I went on terminal leave I happened to look into my closet and had a minor panic because I didn't know what regular people wore to a job.
Thank you for your service 🇺🇸👍
Brother, thank you for your service.
That was an amazing explanation of the troubles transitioning back into civilian life. Seems like a very intelligent man.
Filipinos are some of the best soldiers I've ever worked with.
@@briancabalic yup😊🇵🇭
Bottom of my heart thank you sir.
Thanks
I mean I know the GMC Jimmy wasn't the greatest SUV but damn that seemed pretty harsh.
Really glad that 4 Runner made it out alive, would have been a shame to torch that Toyota
I have watched this three times now and I cannot get enough. Your words have meaning and you speak the truth!
You know man.... this is one of the most informative videos I’ve ever found on the Internet. Thank you so much SFC! From one veteran to another, thank you!
"You need to identify the feeling you had when you were a kid on the street and you decided to enlist and go fight in a war. You were willing to make yourself vulnerable to pursue something to achieve greatness. That level of vulnerability, and being able to embrace it again, and harness it to accomplish new things as a civilian is so important for guys, so they don't end up just being, what we see a lot of today which is, the veteran that is just disgruntled and angry because you went and you fought and you sacrificed, and we are appreciative of that, but that doesn't mean that you stop growing."
Aaron is brilliant. @BravoCompanyUSA thanks for this vital perspective. So refreshing to see in an industry so oftentimes filled with cynicism, racism and tough-guy over compensation. Thank you.
I’m glad to hear his story and glad BCM put out another American gunfighter episode. Thank you for this great privilege
Smart and authentic dude. All substance, no flash. Role model material right there.
Ipod headphones for the win
I'm retired Army and so is my dad, I have tried to get him to watch this video because I found this to be inspirational and helpful to all of us that view it, he is that guy that lives in the past through his military career and cannot move forward in life.
Kevin Mundy I have that same problem. 71years young
I always appreciate when a man allows others to see a glimpse of there story.
Thank you sir. Good on ya for stepping up at 9/11. And well stated regarding life after. It’s a journey for sure
Emotional and humbling vid
THE CIVILIAN WORLD ABSOLUTELY LOVES YOU GUYS FOR SERVING.
Really good interview!
Kudos and thumb up for an American Hero. Thank You!
The intro ambush was intense. Great series.
Thank you, Sir, for your service to our great country!
Best of the series.
Thank you
Thank you for your Service, Aaron Barruga. Wish there were more like you! I served in the Marines during Viet Nam! We are both Patriot's!
Thank you. Your words were the most accurate account of my (or the) transition to civilian life.
Loved this
A very wise young Veteran & Patriot
Awesome video, wise words from a humble man.
That was excellent! Thank you for sharing your experience. You are inspiring.
Very cool, some key words used
adapt , over come , daily change ,
Your not special,
You don’t stop growing
Look forward Not back .
Very positive, thanks 🙏🏻
Another outstanding video! Thanks guys!
Very powerful message!
Aaron is an extremely articulate young man.
Man that looks fun! I just subscribed to Aaron's RUclips channel Guerilla Approach and will be watching more of his direction. Thanks for putting it out here Aaron!
Impressed with this man's heart attitude.
WELL DONE...TY...
Wow! Great pilot episode. No gimmicks. Real.🇺🇸
Well said. Spoken truthfully as a “Type AAA Personality” who walked back from the edge and gained perspective from the experience…
Smart dude, really helpful. Thanks.
Well said! I wish I found out about this video before I joined. The separation thing hit the spot. I felt so stagnant for a few years.
Always looking forward! That's the best method that has helped me, I keep something on my plate and always have something planned ahead. Keeps my mind busy and gives me things to look forward to.
another very impressive individual that excelled in his military career. but almost more impressively, is how he has been able to channel those lessons to achieve an equally rewarding experience in civilian life. thank you for making this film.
I believe an advantage Aaron has over some of his soldier counterparts that has allowed him to transition and be successful after the military is that he is able to incorporate Eastern philosophies into his mindset and his actions. The ability to be adaptable and free flowing which ever path life takes you and make the best of it.
Well said brother
Awesome intro!
Why you gotta go straight to school. New mission. Your insights about being vulnerable are great.
Excellent video. Very wise words indeed. I had the problem of letting go as well. I had to stop and see I was not growing in my new civilian career and it was an eye opener.
We're proud of you bro..fil-am here from california.
Fantastic
I can also vouch for writing down those worst moments in your life. It can give you great clarity, provide an order and context to those moments, and be very healing as well.
Aaron, Mike Glover, Tu Lam, Pat Mcmara, Tim Kennedy all of you guys are my idols.
This dude is wise beyond his years; indicative of tough experiences and sacrifice. He's focused on the positive and I respect what he's saying here.
A fascinating story by an every man. I am drawn to what sgt Barruga is saying in this brief look into his version of life. I was a 31 year old police officer on 9-11. I woke up from a previous night shift to a different world. Yet, i can completely understand where this american badass, yes american badass, is coming from. Hats off to Sgt Barruga, THANK YOU FOR SERVING UNSELFISHLY. Also, thank you for debunking the temple index in previous content. Holshit brother, you and Clay Walker do a great job of explaining why that is such a BAD IDEA. For that, thank you.
Wise dude!!
Thank you for your service. God bless.
Good stuff!!
So true, 🦅🇺🇸🦅🇺🇸
Excellent content here 👍 👍👍 👍👍 👍
Sooo when is the next one coming bcm? Loved this series y’all had going
Good stuff
I swear, I'll never park my truck there again! Seriously guys! Come on! Cease fire already... 🤣 Very cool story also. For me it was learning that part of the business world is trying new ideas and failing. Failing is not an option in the Army. But in business even Jeff Bezos considers failures as part of the process. Very different mindset.
Rubicon V - such an underated comment.... Well done!
The transition out of the structure, goal driven, hard core brotherhood culture is really very difficult. You have to and must set new goals, drive hard for them, move forward and rebuild new brotherhoods in civilian life. Leadership is a great way to do that.
Inspiration
i am definitley going to do apple headphones as ear pro now
An intellectual and a savage🤟🏽
Nice
found your channel from your ad on Ben shapiro's show today when he was interviewing dr phil... now I have to find your website to buy stuff. just finished watching your colonel video.
Awesome story bro! Watching the first couple min. I thought it was another shoot em up former SF guy doing a training vid., Great story...I really liked your views on "growing" good shit brother.. thank you.
Not as a skeptic but as a realistic Veteran. To me, you have to embrace and support every Veteran regardless if they can move forward or not in life. Every situation is different. Every lifestyle is dissimilar. You learn from your military experience, good or bad, and apply those skills in the civilian world. Not every Veteran has the luxury to have a beautiful house with a white picket fence and a nice car. With that said, I work hard to earn a paycheck and support my family, and to me that's Real..
All I heard in this vid was blah blah blah... then you hit the PTSD topic and I was glad I still was listening... good words bro
At least they left that vintage 4Runner alone 🚙
If You Read The Book “Tribe” By Sebastian Junger It Goes Over This “Numbing” Condition Of Combat Soldiers Have In Great Detail And How That Toll Creates A Bond Stronger Than Blood Does. But It Also Points Out That The Exact Profound Effects Veterans Of War Experience Are The Exact Same Thing Civilians Caught In These War Zones Experience As Well. I Have A Great Deal Of Empathy For What Combat Veterans Have To Live With After The War Is Over For Them, But I Also Have A Great Deal Of Empathy For The Civilians Caught In The Middle Of These Wars As Well. Do You..? Ptsd Effects Both Soldiers And Civilians In Such A Profound Way Theres No Way To Understand It Unless You Have Lived It Yourself.

These airsoft guns are so realistic!
Oh shit, Filipino bad ass! Hell yeah!

holy crap the family resemblance
Can you actually use headphones for comms or is he using them as hearing protection?
Any chance you know Ben or Rob from 1st group? I used to hang with those guys back at Lewis around 99-01
Can anyone explain what they were doing inside the hood of the car in the beginning? Disabling it maybe?
Holy shit.
Thanks for advertising on the Ben Shapiro Show! Now I know and can subscribe to your channel!
I hate the autism in the comments section. This is a very well-informed video and I am glad that I scrolled through RUclips enough to run into it.
Whast the rifle setup at 3:10 -- looks weird, high caliber rifle with peep sights? Williams?
Poor Toyota!
Guys what shirt is aaron wearing in the beginning? 5.11 tactical or something?
Really great points on re-integrating into civilian life. Wish I knew this in 1985, lol.
Is this group still active ?
Anybody know the locale of where he’s writing with the river below? Been all around but don’t recognize that area?
