Samuelson hits the nail in the head at 20:00. Jaws started (by accident and luck, although it was low budget) the whole blockbuster phenomenon. After this it became more important to create films that you can hype and market as the next big blockbuster - the actual content of the film is now secondary.
When I spoke about Alan King, I didn't realize he was was dead at the time because he just died. This show is from last year. However, I stand by opinion on other such egomaniacs such as Eric Schaeffer!
How about doing a show about sci-fi films from Metropolis, King Kong, Frobidden Planet, Silent running, Invasion of the body snatchers, Star Wars, Starship troopers.
Brilliant episode: you guys should do more analytic episodes on broad issues rather than on filmmakers you don't necessarily like, like John Hughes. Anyway, I did have gripe about your blaming Spielberg for the downfall of the 70s. The business side of the corporation is to blame. I love 70s films, but even those were branded because they made money (downbeat endings, for one, became SO common).
Yet again a fantastic show guys. To me gore helps most movies. As long as it's done good. And you don't need a lot of money to do that. Look at Bad Taste. It has some of the best gore scenes ever. That's the style of gore I like, it's almost beautiful. Fulci and Argento are also masters at making gore the way I like it. It's the same thing with nudity. It may be unnecessary, but it will still help a lot of times if done correct. Very simple, but effective.
What they are saying is the reason why I love Turner Classic Movies, and actually see "great" films that would never be made now, due to corporate "plastic"-izing films. We need more John Carpenter, Alfred Hitchcock, Orson Welles, and Stanley Kubrick directors (among others), then these "Pay-per-view" "paint by numbers" filmmakers now. Using food as an analogy of films, I want an authentic Mexican meal, not Taco Bell.
On PG13 ratings. The film-makers usually want to score PG13 rating over an R to sell more tickets because more people are able to see the movie. However, they usually have to cut out gore, nudity and F-bombs. Look at Die Hard 4 with it's PG13. Then look at Rambo 4 with it's R. Which one is better? However, which one sold more tickets?
Forgot to say that I don't need the amount of gore that the movies I mentioned have. Just the style. Another example is the officer (Or was it prisoner?) that get's shot in the chest in the holding cells in Assault on Precinct 13. Lots of blood gushing out, it's lovely, and it really helps the scene.
Agree 100% about Mark Wahlberg - Donnie is the real actor in that family. He has put in some brilliant performances in what are, unfortunately, some mediocre films. If Donnie were offered better films, he'd be an Oscar winner.
The only reason Ed Burns got into "Hollywood" was because Robert Redford was trying to look like he was friendly with the indie-filmmakers. That is my theory and there seems to be evidence there. Either that or Ed Burns charmed the pants off him.
hey guys i am a big fan of the show i like the fact there are guys like me who love talking about films. have you guys ever thought about doing a show about the movies that you really hated i know you menton some in other shows like this one
Uhhh ... just to clarify things a bit 1. Oxxxy, ignore Eric. We will NOT be taking you out for a drink, capiche? 2. Alan King is not dead. He's living in Brazil under the alias of Gunter Grass. Long live the KING!! (he's actually rooming w/ Mort Sahl) 3. Oxxxy, we're never gonna take you anywhere, ever. But, please, continue to watch the show. 4. And I NEVER get sentimental ... bitch.
First of all, Robert Rodriguez is a very good film maker, and I agree, Uwe Boll fucking sucks. Now that that's out of the way, here's a great example of a PG-13 horror film that shouldn't have been PG-13 "Prom Night" 2008 remake. Such an obvious attempt to try and fleece stupid teenagers of their money, luckily I saw it on the net. That's a movie I'd to hear you guys rip on! The movie is a waste of time and it just shows what studios these days'll do just for a few dollars.

Wahlberg was great in Boogie Nights, one of my favorite films.
BTW, Edwin, what about Schindler's List?!? That's my favorite film.
you guys always bring out things that I never think about

Eric Cohens comments on the saw movies was spot on.
This is Edwin. Eric is Cinefilenumerofunf and Mike is MCFoltz. I don't know Jeff's handle.

Great show. What about historical flims that force 21st century social commentary into the script.

I like Edward Burns in Confidence & his movie with Robert Deniro

you really need to do a show on him. all of his movies are masterpieces
My hat is my trademark - plus, I don't drink.
Mark Walberg was priceless in The Departed.

@214scifi How did Ed Burns use Redford to get into Hollywood? That I would like to know.
Instant favorite, Love you guys!

Now a decade later, and the industry has gotten much worse
That is not what exactly what I was stating. Read the book DOWN AND DIRTY PICTURES by Peter Biskind.

They talk about 2001 in their Kubrick special part 2.
Such a great episode!
have you ever seen the movie 'postal' ????
Out of interest, what do you guys think of Ed Wood (the director, not the film)
Those guys don't like Schindler's List & Saving Private Ryan? Can't take them serious. :,(
He couldn't be talking about Paul Thomas Anderson being a bad director
and the most important of all «2001: A Space Odyssey»
Still feel the same way about Affleck?
What Hollywood needs to do is open another youth division. Where they give film makers a free hand to make movie and don't interfere.

jeff is neo1978
to hell with the fucking, the last movie i have seen with gratutius nudity is freddy vs jason
what theatre is that in the opening credits. And 300 sucked, I am not a fan of 2 hour long music videos.
Tourista was fucking horrible even for a torture movie. Horror sucks today you really have to dig deep.
Yo, Foltz, there are porn sites nowadays.
HASHBY!!:)

lol "not enough nudity".
Practically 8/10 topless scenes are completely useless and lend nothing to a film, if not out right detract from it.
Any Chance of doing a 20 min episode on how shit remakes are?
These guys have no idea what we are talking about.
the red states comment is pretty stupid. you guts usually have pretty good shows. this one not so much
