So happy you guys are finally doing a series on Cronenberg. Really come to love the guy the last few years, havent seen all his movies but I love Scanners, The Fly, Dead Zone, History of Violence and Videodrome. Have a copy of Eastern Promises, I still have to watch it. Cant wait for the rest so I can decide which of his films to watch next.
Dick Smith! The man and my teacher. He once told me this great story of how, on "Scanners", he nearly had a nervous breakdown working on the 'bursting veins, at the end. Dick had no money to make the effects so quickly threw together some appliances and was flown to the set. Because of cabin pressure the bubbles in the foam latex flattened and the appliances were nearly ruined. Cronenberg took Dick off set and gave him an encouraging speech that lifted his spirits enough to finish the job.
1970 : This one time in Band Camp we went to play In DC in America the Brood was on hotel tv. We never saw cable tv. Many of the horn section stayed up and watched to watch it. I missed it because I wanted to be a professional musician when I grew up.
Any time someone gives a shout out to Betamax, it's a good day. So glad you guys did this episode. Huge Cronenberg fan here, and you have spoken of this early work very well.
I posted my Scanner painting on the Facebook Cinefile page ( love the Lego guys !) for all you Revok fans ....hello Sweden ! And Dick Smith as a teacher !?!? He told you stories !?!?' luckkkkyyyyy
I concur as much as I can. However, I like Lynch, I have nothing against the man; but Cronenberg takes his psychosexual stories and suggestive story telling, and directing, towards plausible nightmares while Lynch works more within a mood and his creepy plots is subtle, somewhat hidden and cool. Maybe it has to do with me sneaking' in to the movie theater at the age of 13 of the swedish premiere week of "Rabid". It scared the bejesus outta me and I haven't lost any love for his movies.
Lynch has the stench of hipster all over him. I guess it's maybe a good introduction to art house film for some, but even Eraserhead bores me to death. >>>Lynch works more within a mood and his creepy plots is subtle, I would almost say gimmicky myself. I just don't know why Cronenberg and Lynch are always connected... is it because they are both 'David's'. Maybe it is that 'creepy' factor, not that I'd even give him that. Not to mention, Lynch is a truther!
Besides the tone of voice and the wannabe-machismo of these nerds, I can't really hear the difference between these guys and three valley girls reviewing movies. Anybody could say about Cronenberg's movies what these guys are saying.
Why does Lynch have to always come up when discussing Cronenberg? I really see little similarity and besides, Lynch is highly overrated. Cronenberg is the man.
Everyone have much intelligent things to say - but they live in their own worlds and don't listen to each other! One person says one thing, another person interrupt without even notice they do it, and try to speak of something else. Sorry, but this is very nerdish.
One of my favorite directors...
His superior intelligence shines through and through...

I have been bugging these guys to do this for so long. And now they have! Awesome!!!
SCANNERS is absolutely one of my favorite movies, and I love THE BROOD-- There are a lot of really memorable, disturbing scenes in that.
Great. A Lynch review is now needed.

Great episode!
I like that. They should call the film "Mindfuck"
Great Intro! Glad to see Mr. Foltz is back!
Of all these movies I only have Scanners. So I will check out the rest. Thank you guys and greetings from Sweden!
Finally! Well done - great entry for newbies of DC. Hope you mention SHAPE OF RAGE ...
david lynch episode!!! plz
The doctor in Shivers was an acquaintance of David. I believe in reality he was an orthopaedician or a chiropractor.
did you guys consider doing episode about Hayao Miyazaki movies or any anime movies just asking if you did already my bad.
True, but that's kind of where the charm of this show lies.

OH YES

I doubt that Ivan Reitman was involved in Cinepix. I worked on a few Cronenberg films and went to college with Ivan Reitman.
Soon I will have my television name
Ha. Yeah, I know - classy. Honestly, the thought process at the time is this: "I'm beat. Maybe chewing gum will keep me awake?"
Lynch has the stench of hipster all over him.

You don't mention The Fury next to Scanners, criminal.
Castle's The Tingler should be mentioned in these tertulias as well.
does eric have is upper arms waxed?!?!!?!?
Is everyone chewing gum. Good gum?
Set looks like Charlie Rose; panel acts like their on The Man Show. Strictly for DC nubes. :(
Besides the tone of voice and the wannabe-machismo of these nerds, I can't really hear the difference between these guys and three valley girls reviewing movies. Anybody could say about Cronenberg's movies what these guys are saying.
Bleh. They lost me immediately with the whole 'Charlie Rose as done by morons' thing.
Where did you get lost, up your own ass!?
Why does Lynch have to always come up when discussing Cronenberg? I really see little similarity and besides, Lynch is highly overrated.
Cronenberg is the man.
RED CARS dummy!
The gum chewing. Really? You're doing a podcast and you're loudly chewing gum?
