Thanks guys, youre shows are always Great, i always check for new episodes, and re-watch the older ones, ive put episodes of youre show on my facebook page a few times, keep up the Fantastic show, thanks
at 8:44 Edwin says "Robocop 1 is the greatest science fiction of film of the 80's." Carpenter's The Thing is the best science fiction film of the 80's, but Robocop 1 is definitely in the top 3-5.
@cinefiles I think the show is Brilliant, and i know you have jobs and are doing this on youre own, we really appreciate it, i love movies, and i think the discussions are really good, i love the humour as well, you can really teel you guys are passionate about movies, again thanks, ill try and bring the cinefiles even more viewers
Great show guys. So many disappointments to mention but the first that comes to mind is the remake of SLEUTH. I am such a big fan of the play and first film and was very excited to see this, as the film went along I kept saying "no...no NO NOOO". Alien3 was a great choice, I remember seeing the teaser that told us it would be set on Earth, but that teaser was made even before Sigourney Weaver started production. The teaser is online.
Actually I think Robocop 2 and 3 were filmed back to back, and frank miller's Robocop 2 script ended up being re-written into two separate films. It just took a few years for the studio to release robocop 3 b/c of the poor box office of part 2. Peter Weller of course couldn't make it out for a third outing b/c of naked lunch.
@83phatman It sucks to live in NYC and have Sept 11th as your birthday. I will never feel happy to celebrate it again. The Stooges shoot was the best early gift I could ever hoped for, and can never be topped!
The cancelled Ralph Bakshi part 2 to the Lord of the Rings.... I loved part 1 as a kid, and was devastated to never see the end.... other than that? The Phantom Menace.
Krull was my Megaforce - totally psyched to see it as a kid. Went in expecting something akin to Star Wars and emerged underwhelmed to the point of befuddlement. I guess that's how I learned some movies aren't worth the price of admission.
First, I wanted to say congratulations to Edwin for being able to film his favorite band. Really happy for you.
As for the episode, that was a lot of fun. You all named some good choices, and I agreed most with these ones. - Alien 3: Pissed me off for all the reasons Mike listed, I still hate it. - Village of the Damned: I love Carpenter, but this was awful. Probably his worst movie Same goes for the Robocop 2 and 3, and The Matrix sequels Awesome episode guys, keep em coming!
@paulburns30 Thank you again for the kind words. We just try to share our love of film with like-minded people. We try to talk about movies like regular guys. There's nothing worse than a film snob!
(Continued) much more attention than you are getting and I'm sure that will come. For myself and for some of our users, you guys have the best review show on TV or the web. In a side note, I'll be doing some more video responses to some of the great topics you guys have covered as I have been doing with a Top Ten of films that f**ked me up. I've watched the show for years and I am keen to promote it in any way I can, So hopefully we can help out. All the best from bonnie Scotland. Mike
The one redeeming value of Village of the Damned was Mark Hamill's over the top acting. You could tell he was having a good time. "WE NEED FINGERPAINTS!"
even if V for Vendetta wasn't based on a graphic novel it would still be a fantastic film. this is why I don't read a book until after the film because i can judge each on its own terms
I just don't understand what you were talking about when you mentioned that village of the damned was actually worst than his 2 episodes in masters of horror, I think "Cigarette Burns" is one of the best episode of that serie along with Takashi Miike's "Imprint" Other than that, I admit I cried big tears with everything Dario Argento has done recently.
@kentuckycunctator I'm not complaining about the subscribers we have now - in fact, I love our fans. We have more than doubled our fanbase within the last year. We might not have the most fans, but we do have some of the most loyal, which I'm truly grateful for.
Congrats, Edwin. It's a shame you guys don't have more subs. RUclips is a fickle hostess. Maybe Mike Foltz should undo more buttons. Seems to work for the webcam girls.
@Areashiftybun We love the video responses from our fans, so keep them coming. One of my greatest joys is recommending films that people haven't seen that they watch and then love. I hope you'll consider checking out some of Halloween recommendations. I plan to film a video soon picking my favorite movies to watch during the scariest night of the year. BTW, I'm honored to have a fan from Scotland as I'm half Scottish and Swedish (hence, the last name).
@trexguy You're right about the teaser - I forgot all about that. If they followed that storyline, it would have been so much better than it turned out.
@steveodavis1504 Actually the weren't, but they were filmed close to each other. Robocop 3 was filmed in '91, but shelved because of Orion's money woes. The film was released two years later to very poor box office. The film was made for kids and that's why it sucks so much. Robocop was made for Adults and that's one reason it was so good.
@cinefiles thats so true, when you guys have different views on movies, theres humerous bashing, but you respect each others opinions, im not a big fan of musicals, i sat and watched the show because i know im going to enjoy the discussion, then say i think that film will be good to see, youve brought some really good movies to my attention and the show is also very informative, i love the rants, especially from Mike, Eric's rant on Vendetta was Brilliant lol
@cinefiles no problem, thats what it feels like, a group of guys having good in depth discussion about movies, and you cover all genres too, and you all have youre own views, ive seen some Professional movie reviewers who are knowwhere near as good as you guys, ive seen some film snobs too, i cant stand that, so pretentious! lol
@Areashiftybun Thank you for the comments. It truly was a dream come true. I never in my lifetime thought I would be filming my favorite band of all time live. Some people would rather film The Rolling Stones - I rather film Iggy and The Stooges. I thank you for the support of the show. Everyone has been extremely kind to us and that's why I keep doing the show. We make no money on this - we do it because we enjoy it, and I hope that comes off on screen.
@BunnyMan456 Fuck yeah is right! It was an amazing night. Look for the disc next year from MVD. It was an amazing show. BTW, if you look on rolling stone's website, you can see a video from the concert and see me on stage filming the show!
Was this filmed before the alien saga show, or after, because 11:45 - 12:45 is confusing, since on that show, mike had seen the special edition. What alien show is mike talking about?.
Oh there's nothing worse than that terrible feeling in the cinema, during a highly anticipated film, "What the fuck is this piece of shit?!" That might be a bit harsh for Quantum of Solace, given that there are a few good things in it that peak your interest, but that's still the feeling I had watching it. What a mess and a let down from Casino Royale.
Hhe forgot to mention that alan moore based v for vendetta storyline on england in the 1980s under margaret thatcher.it may have seemed like an outdated idea with a 2006 audience
My top 3 disapointing films. 3. Daredevil - The previews looked alright, but when I saw the movie....wow really bad. 2. Dumb and Dumberer: When Harry Met Lloyd - Still love the original and I thought maybe they could pull off a prequel... I was wrong. 1. Juno - I just hate the film and how annoying juno is.
I know this was filmed a little while ago, but Edwin said that there was one author that was more misrepresented by hollywood than alan moore. Do you recollect what you were talking about, because I got this feeling you were going to say stephen king
For me (and this will probably surprise most people as it was so critically acclaimed) was "Born on the Fourth of July." Normally I don't have a problem with cussing, and I understand that these were Vietnam veterans, AND I was a kid when they started coming back from Vietnam in droves in the early 70s and do remember how people spit at them, BUT the scene with Tom Cruise as Ron Kovac and Willem Dafoe circling in their wheelchairs repeating "fuck" over and over made me leave the room.
@paulburns30 I hate snobs more than you do - trust me on this. That's one reason I continue the show. There needs to be more non-pretenious talk about film. Also, I hate critics who frown down on a film because it's a genre film.
Alan moore is awesome. I have had a couple of pints with him years ago as I grow up in the same town he comes from , Northampton UK. Some of his works is influenced from there. None of the adaptations are any good and don't do them any justice. I don't think anyone could pull it off.
Weird response but, for me, Stalker. I had never seen a Tarkovsky film b4 but knew his reputation. I thought the movie was going to be up my alley: philosophically rich, deliberately placed and thematically ambiguous. Instead it was just a bore and the ponderous dialogue was tiring and unnecessary. I wanted to like it; I’ve stayed away from Tarkovsky since.
If thats the case most films based on comics have deviated from their source material with varying degrees does that make all of them bad i dont think so
i always liked alien 3, its the weaker of the first 3, i dont count alien 4, but i like the darkness of it. the only real problem i had with it was killing off the two charactors from aliens.
Godzilla (1998) enough said. I saw Godzilla 1985 when i was a kid and was waiting years to see this one. As soon as i saw the monster i still remember going what the fuck?
I was disappointed with "Robocop 3" from the Frank Miller expectation too. But then years later after readiong some more of his stuff, I wasn't disappointed anymore, as I realized Miller wasn't a very good writer at all. Some of the stuff he did for Marvel was good, but otherwise it's all the same psycho nonesense. Even "Dark Knight Returns" is vastly over-rated.
That's really great that you got to fulfil a dream Edwin, I'm really glad you got the opportunity. Over on our channel we've done some things to try and promote The Cinefiles. We've added you into our box, so that every time someone subscribes to our film related videos, they get alerted to your channel and asked to subscribe. We've also got a link to your channel from our website forums at areashiftybun(dot)com and even a discussion topic about favourite episodes. You guys deserve (continued)
To me Rob Zombie's 31 and some might say that hate Zombie well it's Rob Zombie what do you expect. Well I'm a f'n fan of Zombie and I was waiting for the release of 31 for months reading articles on it watching leaked trailers finally watched it and it was the biggest piece of shit that was all over the place, no real solid plot the killers were weak the ending inconclusive and it felt like Rob Zombie just wanted to release a new film out. You can see influences but RZ blatant ripped off a certain guy with Texas in his titles once again.
Men in Black for me. I guess I was at an age that I absorbed all the hype for it. It ended up being just ok, but since then I never bought into any hype.
I disagree with eric cohens assessment of the v for vendetta film.he is basing his review on the fact that he read the original alan moore comic and there is a juxtaposition on anarchy and fascism.he didnt mention iany of the performances in the film by the lead actors were good or not,he didnt mention anything about the production values
The one guy doesn't understand Alan Morre (or Anarchism). Alan Moore is an Anarchist. Anarchism is basically just a better, more realistic, free-er version of Communism. I'd suggest he pick up some Mikhail Bakunin, Peter Kropotkin or Emma Goldman to learn more... But yeah, I was always disappointed that all the Alan Moore adaptations stripped the (truly) Anarchist themes entirely from the scripts.

@Olphus Watchmen was OK, I think all the viral hype online raised to many expectations for me. Soon after I read the book, maybe I am an idiot, but I thought it was also overrated. "The Long Halloween" was a better book.
@ZombiesAteMyArm Sorry, Village is worse in my book as I wasn't expecting much from Invisible Man. Village I had high hopes for as it was a remake of of classic film, and we all know what happened when Carpenter remade a classic - we got The Thing!
I disagree about Sharon Stone's performance in Quick and the Dead. Not that it was any good but she tried to portray someone that's tough but not super-human tough a la Eastwood. The concept was she's pretty much a girl.
wait a minute, Jeff didn't like Oliver Stone's Any Given Sunday? what about that god awful UTurn crappy movie. Lifeforce kicks major ass. It's a camp masterpiece!

I hope we get a show in which you talk about the Watchmen film.
You know, I've seen this episode about three times already over the past year, and am still waiting for the MegaForce review promised by Edwin.
I actually really liked Alien 3, but I do agree that the decision to kill Newt and Hicks was really dissapointing.
The one redeeming value of Village of the Damned was Mark Hamill's over the top acting. You could tell he was having a good time. "WE NEED FINGERPAINTS!"

from hell and league of extraordinary gentleman was cool when i saw it . great show guys!
i would def be interested in seeing more slapping around of each other. maybe a few peripheral characters in the background. Very entertaining!
@kentuckycunctator I'm not complaining about the subscribers we have now - in fact, I love our fans. We have more than doubled our fanbase within the last year. We might not have the most fans, but we do have some of the most loyal, which I'm truly grateful for.

From Hell is a weak remake of a 70-s movie Murder by decree which is fantastic - a fight between Sherlock Holmes & Jack the Ripper! Recomend

@ethansloan Thank you. It will be a concert film with interviews. It will be released on bluray/dvd from MVD next year.
@83phatman I would like to forget The Matrix sequels and only remember the first movie.
@ChristopherPeeper Thanks for subscribing. Don't forget to rate us! lol. Thanks for the support!
The question is how they could have been eagerly awaiting such schlock to begin with.
My most dissapointed film of all time. "Interview with the vampire". Because of Tom Cruise as Lestat and ruined it.
Oh there's nothing worse than that terrible feeling in the cinema, during a highly anticipated film, "What the fuck is this piece of shit?!" i always liked alien 3, its the weaker of the first 3, i dont count alien 4, but i like the darkness of it. the only real problem i had with it was killing off the two charactors from aliens.
@AustrianFilmGeek I think it's an awesome camp classic. I know it's not a good movie, but it is damn entertaining.
david fincher didnt get fired, he WALKED off THE SET because the studio kept pressurising him

Hey, my birthday is also September 11th!
Somebody tell that guy it's called Alien 3, not AlienS 3. For God's sake, he even called Alien "Aliens 1".
hahaha that dude its on fire with V for vendetta

it wasnt David Finchers fault that alien 3 got messed up , his original screenplay was a lot better than the one fox forced him to rewrite
@piven88 Except TCM. Salem's Lot and the very underrated Funhouse, which I recommend you seek out if you haven't seen it.
The two most disappointing movie i'Ve seen were Hardware (a fucking awful film about an awesome looking killer robot) and Man of Steel.
Men in Black for me. I guess I was at an age that I absorbed all the hype for it. It ended up being just ok, but since then I never bought into any hype.

How about Close Encounters Special edition-it was far worse then the first one. The extended scenes should have been cut.
@dafmurray Give the special edition a chance. It's not perfect, but it's a huge improvement over the final product. Seriously,. give it a look.
@suokkis It's a shame. There were many excellent concepts for Alien 3 that went unused, including one that took place on a planet made of wood!
@AustrianFilmGeek and I have a rule - if it's entertaining, it's not bad.
@Broyale26 Make a request for it at the Facebook discussion page!
Starship Troopers 2.
@beachn69 Thank you. We try to have a non-pretenious discussion about the films we love. There's nothing worse than a film snob.
@Villesanti Defiantly up there!
Speaking of MegaForce, James Rolfe (The Angry Video Game Nerd) just reviewed it over on the Cinemassacre channel, and I recommend you guys check it out, cause it gets progressively hilarious:

The quick and the dead, was camp!
@BunnyMan456 Stephen King and Dean Koontz haven't had much success with their novels being faithfully adapted to the screen.
alien 3 is fucking awesome.
@loneoneokay Thanks. Be sure to play Funhouse or Raw Power in celebration!
I thought the Any Given Sunday and From Hell were both good movies.
MEGAFORCE!!!!! Ha ha!
Fuck YEAH! EDWIN!!!
*Aliens 3.*
Most gaseous....
American Psycho was a dissapointment.. Compared to the book
so was Inherent Vice where as Ask The Dust&Wonder Boys=Not bad at all:)
@cinefiles exactly. :)
@ElegiacExegesis Not a fan huh?
Watchman was a great Alan Moore adaptation in my opinion.
I disagree about Sharon Stone's performance in Quick and the Dead. Not that it was any good but she tried to portray someone that's tough but not super-human tough a la Eastwood. The concept was she's pretty much a girl.
Spider-Man 3.
wait a minute, Jeff didn't like Oliver Stone's Any Given Sunday? what about that god awful UTurn crappy movie. I hope I am getting the name right; it starred Jennifer Lopez, Sean Penn, and Nick Nolte (I think). I hated that movie. It was the only movie I have ever gotten up and walked out on, and I have seen Judge Dredd. U Turn was horrific. It was complete torture, and there was no amount of sex scenes that could save it. OMG!!!!!! I still want my f@cking money back!!!!!!
The QUICK AND THE DEAD was pretty lame over all. The kindest thing I can say is that Russel Crowe was good.
The most disappointing film I've ever seen is Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones.
Almost any sequal to a good film is a disappointment.
I was let down by the Lord of the Rings films, only the second one did I really like.
