  • Debriefing a recent trip to climb Mount Snowdon in Snowdonia National Park, North Wales. The good, the bad and the ugly. I share the reality on the summit and of course some of the incredible scenes along the way. Thank you for tuning and enjoy. Please do drop a comment with your thoughts and start the conversation.

You're so right here about the classic Instagram key spots that have almost ruined some locations. It makes us real photographers think differently and go to some other places (or use extremely longer lenses 😅)

Long lens also FTW, can block a multitude of sins 😉 Otherwise. We better get hunting pit new spots… thanks for watching 🙏🏻

Another entertaining video, thanks Hannah! There are many peaks in Scotland higher than Snowdon though. In general lesser known hills attract far fewer visitors, especially mid-week and can be just as challenging and picturesque.

Thanks so much for watching 🙌🏼 And for the tip, I must do some research as really getting the bug for the mountain hikes….

Great video Hannah. I’ve done the 7 peaks challenge a few times, albeit a few years back, but never had the opportunity to stop and fully appreciate the views. The whole instagram etc, world we live in does do my head in a bit…especially when you see a queue like that for a shot. I get it more and more in my gym with people spending more time setting up the tripod to film their sets instead of working out…and hogging the equipment!!! Personally I prefer looking for originality in the shots. You took some great ones there!

Many thanks Craig, really appreciate you watching and commenting. The gym think really is something else... I haven't been a member of one for some time but I can imagine the situation. In terms of landscapes/photography - may be just a good push I need to get out there to try and create more original images :)

Incredible! Thanks for sharing :) I definitely feel a lot of the instagram vs reality, especially living in a city. People glamorize a lot now and it can be nice, but I will say I appreciate when folks also share their real experiences. It can also be pretty frustrating when you’re trying to have an experience (like getting to the summit of a mountain) and can’t actually get to enjoy it because of that instagram mindset and crowds. I say that from the perspective of a photographer as well, that those kind of photos can be great and fun, but I do sometimes get salty about it 😅thanks again for sharing, love hearing your thoughts on these topics!

Thanks so much for watching and commenting also. I wasn’t 100% sure if to post this one as I didn’t exactly come up with a ‘solution’ to the problem. But it’s great to hear others thoughts… it’s a real dilemma. I guess getting worse also! 👀

Great video and interesting comments as all ways Hannah. Walked up Snowdon several times and like all these popular spots it is best to pick times of the year when it is less busy. Must admit was surprised that people had to wait on summit to take a picture.
As photographers I think it is better not to think about what picture will interest people the most or what will suit Instagram. In my humble opinion it is beter to create an image that has perhaps not been made as often or from a different perspective that follow the masses with the same picture and style as everyone else. As the saying goes “It is better to live one day as a lion than 100 days as sheep”

Many thanks... always appreciate the support. I'm with you, more and more as these places get busier too it is changing my mindset on where (and when to go). I like that saying too - never heard it before :)

Mixed feelings here! I Love travelling all over the world but the ‘over tourism’ drives me mad sometimes and I know I am one! Fortunately a lot of places ive visited over the years i went to before instagram made them even more popular. Now we try to hunt out less popular places where mostly the locals will go. Our next trip is to Japan , this really suffering right now, tourists simply disrespecting their culture and special places for the instagram shot ! Ive been a few times before so less visited part here we come 👍

I think you’re right, hunting out new more under rated spots is now required. Quite fun though. I’ve seen some crazy stuff from Japan, especially this year. It’s put me off a little even though I so badly want to go. I’ll have to ask you how you get on….

I live fairly close to Banff and Lake Louise, Alberta 🇨🇦 and I stopped going there due to the tourist density. Everyone clambering for the exact same photos. Like you, I’m torn as it’s nice to see people out but it’s completely killed the locations for me.

Funny isn’t it. Banff, Moraine Lake are on my absolute bucket list. And in my mind I have them totally remote with zero people 😂 (in reality I know this is unlikely the case)… can you easily get out past those ‘spots’ to more natural bits. Or do you just go elsewhere? Thanks for watching 😃
