  • Fin rot and fungal infections are sadly two conditions you are very likely to come across in the aquarium hobby. They are due to a combination of poor conditions weakening the fish and often some form of damage from fighting or transportation.
Just to point out - fin rot and and fungal infections are basically the same thing, the only aspect that changes is which part of the fish is affected !
My male German Blue Ram came with a fungal infection on his dorsal fin and so I'm treating him before it has a chance to spread.
Treatment took about 9 days in total and he is now on the road to recovery.
My favourite fishy stuff! (yes these are affiliate links :) )
    Lights
Nicrew Classic LED - amzn.to/3fG3Uv6 - Traditional led light that's got a nice high output in a white/cool colour range. Makes plants look extra green.
Nicrew SKY - amzn.to/3Ktn45U - really nice light for natural looking tanks, also the one I use for filming.
    Filters
Pat Mini - amzn.to/3fE1u0k - popular for a reason, just a superb little filter thats great for shrimp tanks and fish alike.
ASAP - amzn.to/3nBuytp - the old favourite and the one i return to most frequently.
    Air Pump
AP-3 Kit : amzn.to/34UMA3q - Great little air pump, not a silent runner, but has been very reliable for me.
    Tanks
Scaper 45 - amzn.to/3KBxG2H - a lovely high quality tank that comes with a super strong light, and a decent enough hang on back filter - perfect for newbies and scapers alike.
    My filming stuff
    Camera - Cannon 200D - amzn.to/354OLlc - nice camera, easy to use.
BigTripod - Manfrotto befree - amzn.to/3GLXDdj - pricey but super sturdy and can take being knocked over a lot by clumsy operators.
Lil' tripod - amzn.to/355WmQs - can't pronounce the name but it's been a good tripod for filming things on tables or when I have tanks on the floor.

Great video Lauren, your GBR’s are beautiful, can I ask what temperature you keep that tank at as I’ve read that they need warmer water.

    Hi Lauren. First comment.
Great video. Who'd have thought fungal infections would make for interesting subject matter.

Hey Chris! Thanks, I was unsure if anyone would want to watch something like that as it's a bit of a dry topic but I figured I might as well document it :D. Glad you liked it.

Beautiful fish, was surprised you didn't quarantine them😯

Hey Jeff. Yeah... I have tried, oh how I have tried to keep a decent sized quarantine tank, but anything of the glass box persuasion rapidly becomes something's permanent home in my house. And my little 25litre q-tank for nanos (which i usually keep), would be much too small for them, especially if they decided they didn't like each other. So they have gone in with the neons for now, not ideal, but I plan on redoing the whole tank soon so if more meds are needed they can all get a dose together.

@@tinymenagerie cheap & easy solution you may want to try is use a plastic tote. Just throw in a sponge filter. After your done just store it till you need it again.

@@tinymenagerie I'm pretty sure this is why my Q-tine tank happened to look cooler than some of my established tanks😂 obviously i want them in an environment similar to what they would be transferred to, but i got excited and now want to keep it as another tank. Fortunately most of my tanks are guppies not community so with unbalanced male:female ratios i can actually just use to house whichever needs more separation for the time until babies grow and i can re balance the ratios again.

Hi Lauren. A good aquatic shop should be able to order fish in for you. I'm lucky to have a few options right on my doorstep. I'm waiting on a pair of apistos BoreillI Opal but currently that is proving more challenging than I first thought. Just playing the waiting game now.

Hey Emma, to be honest I've only tried to order fish once and that was from a guy on ebay and was actually pleasantly surprised at the quality of them - they were only sunset platys though, nothing over fancy. Had to google borelli 'opal' as I'd never heard of the colour variant and wow they are gorgeous!!! Good luck getting hold of some!
