NJT, PATH, and Amtrak in Newark and Harrison

- We go to Newark NJ to go hunt for neoplans below Penn Station. But on our way back we stop at Harrison to railfan for a bit. Since the NB Platform for PATH is being worked on all PATH trains are now operating on the SB track. So when NBs come in they have the destination sign set as Special and the conductor has to verbally announce the stops. Apparently I noticed that I didn’t get yelled at for filming and also the Amtrak NE Regional in the video had one of its doors open while running. Enjoy

I DO NOT understand why the Port Authority hates Cameras and stuff. I understand not having cameras in the PABT and on PATH, however there is a sign on the GWB that says "Camera use prohibited." Port Authority, that is where I personally think you crossed the line. Why are they so anti-photography???????
metropolisubway47, thanks for the question. Many people believe the photo ban was put into place because of September 11th but that’s not the case. The photo ban was actually put in place before 9/11 but really wasn’t enforced. The other reason why it was put into place because the Port Authority is a private company. They don’t need outside people coming in and filming them and their train operations. Also the Union is to blame. The people who work for the Port Authority are selfish people who don’t take pride in their work. They do their best to stay away from work and don’t tolerate anyone or anything. Is kinda sad. If you don’t like your job leave it. We will never know 100% why this photo ban is in place but I really think this ban is just bull crap. As long you are in public property you can film and take pictures of anything. If they yell at you they are taking alway your first amendment. I film on PATH anyway because it’s stupid. I know many people won’t because of this but I do it for content and entertainment. I’m not putting the passengers and driver in any risk so I don’t see a issue to film. I hope I helped you out with the photo ban and filming issues
@@pascackvalleylinerailfan5037 Thanks, I actually get why I mean it's annoying but I guess rules are rules
@@pascackvalleylinerailfan5037 but still, the cops could see you and I'm not taking any risks.
metropolisubway47, no problem I pinned this comment because I hope for future viewers who may have the same question as you have the response I typed out. Most cops wouldn’t mind but some cops who work for the port authority will be hard on you
@@pascackvalleylinerailfan5037 Well spoken
I'm a train and I approve this video! :D Choo choo!!!
Amtrak's brakes just sound awesome. Can we acknowledge that?
Kahsi Sewer, Acknowledged! They sure are awesome!
3:18 nice horn show
09:06 That last car of the Path Train has a door malfunction.
I did railfanning in Harrison, several PATH operators saw my phone filming, it was fine. They didn’t care
Awesome catches. I loved the Heritage Unit capture.
Joshua Coley, thanks! The NJT heritage units are great in my opinion. Really shows the pride of NJTs 40 years. I’m glad you enjoyed.
The Newark PATH extension is supposed to begin this year
Great Catch, I was here a few days ago
Thanks! That’s cool! I have to return again for some PM rush action
Why does it say “ special“ if the path is opening up the doors?
Wow, nice video! That NJT heritage Unit is nice.
CSXrailfan45, thanks! The NJT heritage units are pretty cool. My favorite is the NJT CNJ heritage GP40PH
Mine too. Just saw it on the 10th.
Nice. So NJ Transit has a Pennsy heritage unit, decorated like a GG-1?Also nice.
Just curious, do any NJT trains stop at Harrison, or is it a PATH-only station?
Greg Whitney, NJT does have an ALP-46 Pennsy heritage wrapped as a GG-1. They also have a Erie Lackawanna Heritage wrap and a GP40PH painted as a CNJ loco. Though most of them are in storage you can see the GG-1 in the NJCL and NEC. The Lackawanna is a PTC year train and the GP40 is always broken. NJT doesn’t stop at Harrison and PATH is the only provider.
Thanks.
It's only a PATH station, all NEC trains uses the 3 middle tracks and path uses the 2 platformed tracks
Very cool catches! Harrison looks like a nice station for railfanning. When was this?
Kyle P Trains, Thanks! Harrison is a nice station to railfan. This was taken on February 1st, so it was way before stay at home orders. I do advise you if you want to railfan at Harrison is that the platform is owned by PATH and the company has a strict no filming/photo ban. So you might get yelled at but apparently I heard the ban is lifted but I’m still not sure
can we state the fact that the pa-5 doors sounds similar to the mta r160a's?
You know recently, car 5708 PA5 was trashed up, there was pee everywhere, the EXIT signs were hung above the car number and there was water all over the ceiling and floor,
I did not know that. Thanks for sharing. It’s sad that people trash subway cars like that. I mean look at the NYC Subway in the 80s
Even though PATH trains say Special, they we're still going the same destination on the same track on both ends of the trip to WTC and Newark?
Blake Filippi, Yes. The PATH train was going to its normal location. The reason why it was sharing the same track was due to track work on the Newark Penn track so all trains were put on the WTC track. The reason why it says SPECIAL is because they program the train and the train won’t give announcements or give the proper destination on the wrong track so it has to be signed up as special until it reaches it terminus.
@@pascackvalleylinerailfan5037 The WTC station is closed on Weekends, so they routed it to Exchange Place but there's no sign for it so they put it as SPECIAL.
Nice catches
DOMINICA AVIATION, thanks!
Amtrack is not in Harrison cuz Its PATH trains one
2:04 that ACS-64 do be zooming out the station
Kahsi Sewer, yeah it seemed like it was zooming. Normally that speed is about 30-35
looks like PATH trains reprssent the continent's top fleet at hastening loading, dwell times.
Were few people on the trains?
Trains & Destinations, oh yeah I forgot to tell you guys in the comments about this but it was before coronavirus lockdown so lots of people were on the trains
Not many amtrak trains though :(
Christopher Cancel, yeah this was a weekend in November and I was cold out. Only stayed for about 30 minutes. The Acela was delayed 25 so I wasn’t staying for that. But hey it’s better than nothin!
Whats a neoplan?
Mrcat Games, a Neoplan is a bus company based in Europe. They have an American company as well and is most famous for articulated busses. I went to go and catch the last of the NJT artics before they get retired
Bee-Line also used to have Neoplans, but they got retired and replaced by the New Flyer XDE60s.
sign change at 4:13
asianpower0714, thanks for pointing that out! I didn’t see that when they changed it from Newark to Special
ah no problem
They could actually change the sign to all 4 lines plus NO PAX and Special
Even if you got yelled at, don't think about giving a sh*t to such a rule that violates our rights.
David Ng, yeah I don’t get it. Yes I get the whole 9/11 thing but that’s a silly rule
The rule actually predates 9/11, but it got worse after such. Still it’s not fair that they think we perform criminal activity with such.
@@pascackvalleylinerailfan5037 not really silly but ok
@@SouthJerseyRailfan It is silly. This is public transportation we are talking about, not private property.
