A few things - Marcella Detroit is about 70. And it’s also one of the hardest songs in the world to sing. In the original version she was hitting notes you usually only hear in opera. Like really high notes. Of course a version 30 years later is going to be different. But it’s still great
Hats off too both artists. The singing is amazing Marcella Detroit is hitting notes that are at the top of the range and game and she is 70 a life of performing and gigging. Anyone criticising this knows very little about live singer
I have ABSOLUTELY ZERO LEVEL OF DISAPPOINTMENT considering I LITERALLY came to this live version from the 1992 live version… Am a muso And was born in 1986…❤❤❤
All the haters here? You try singing a high D# above C. Not when you're pushing 70 years old, try it right now. Good grief. These young ladies are the absolute best. Nothing but respect.
It's about the fact that the tones don't work that well at 70, that's a statement, but why should we sing a high D# above C now? if they said you'd sing when you were seventy... but why now? nobody said I can do it better now than they did when they were 70, right? what have this with hating to do ?
People are highlighting Marcella Detroit's "poor" singing at the start, but how many of today's pop "stars" could even attempt to sing a song like this 100% live?
those women have AMAZING voices, I mean, simply incredible to be hitting those notes at ANY age. What a legendary song and simply magnificent performance
When my band was at its best I could barely hit the high C let alone the D#. These ladies are amazing and any haters really need to get a clue about real singing. Whitney, Celine, Steve Perry and Loren Allred are the only ones who can hit that high D# over C. I give them prison for even ATTEMPTING it. They sounded magnificent!
I thought it was absolutely brilliant...kids are spoilt with autotune and manipulated audio ....one of the greatest songs ever written.... Marcello Siobhan Dave Stewart I salute you
Here after Ghost re-ignited my love for this song. I have to say, this song is soooo well written, it verges on timeless...but more importantly, their age and vocals have added a whole new dimension to the song. It's absolutely phenomenal!
Marcella is almost 70 years of age !! Her voice is still incredible. Yes a little shaky at the beginning of the song but towards the end she killed it.
I think live music shouldn't be perfect... I love the nuances and imperfections in live music that (for me) somehow make the music /art raw authentic, real and human. For perfect rounded over produced and digitally manipulated vocals there's always the studio versions. Live art should be appreciated for what it is. Like a classic car it probably doesn't drive like it did 30 years ago, but it's still got its soul and parts you love for what it was and what it is now.
It wasn't even a bad performance anyway. Don't get the negative comments. This is Marcella on about a 7, prob didn't do a full warm up hence the second part she sounds more powerful, she was just being safe with her delivery. People criticising have just got too used to play back and auto tune. This was a great comeback and their live shows were critically praised.
Given the fact that Marci sung this song 30+ years ago and her voice has naturally become deeper over time she sounds amazing. Siobhan sounds practically the same, if not more haunting.
4 days ago I had never heard this song. Then Patrick Wilson & Ghost showed up. Then the original video. Then top of the pops. Now I'm here. Obsessed. Thank you for this Graham.
It’s hard to keep in key when your voice changes over the years as you get older and especially when they haven’t performed or done this song in a long time! Loved every bit of it! 🥰
Thank you for pointing that out. I have been singing all my life. When I was young and in high school (choir, musical theater) I was the highest soprano and could hit amazing notes. As I aged I became an alto and that is what I sing now.
@@angelcitygirl Right?! Spot on. Plus, our voices change in other ways as we grow and age, like what we're musically exposed to, health conditions - I was the highest soprano also up until my late 20's, until acid reflux silently destroyed my vocal chords as I slept. Now I'm some kinda wonky contralto-soprano and it hurts like hell to sing for long. And I'm only in my 40's! For both ladies to still be kicking that much ass into their 60's and 70's makes my heart light up! ♥️
Like a phoenix rising from the ashes after 27 years. I had chills. These ladies are amazing. Even Norton said 'how good was that!' He looked genuinely chuffed and excited.
My only brother, my angel passed away so suddenly a week ago, they resuscitated them for 40 mins in vain - I have been listening this song every day and cry
My heart absolutely breaks for you. I am more deeply sorry than words could ever convey. Your beloved Brother is forever alive in every cell of you. Each moment can be lived on his behalf and in his honour, so he will be living on with you and through you, always 💖
Once they got rolling, this live version was actually better than back in the day...Siobhan delivered a matured, stylish, haunting rendition and Marcella fails to disappoint.
These two ladies were (and are) so damn good together. Literally every version of this song makes me pee a little. Marcy and Siobhan... LOVE YOU!!! ❤❤❤
Regardless of whether these women are now in their 70s or not the amount of effort it takes to sing them high D#s is awesome and to think they still have that ability at the age they are, absolutely wonderful and they smashed it on this show 20 odd years later
Mad respect to you both thank you for the great childhood memories..this is mine and my sisters song we both now 42 sissy is 45 ..my gosh how amazing they still look so beautiful as they did when they were in their prime..xoxo..Love you..💜💜
All the emotions, and memories took over, clearly. On the tour it was way calmly done. I had chills watching this on TV alter 27 years of their absence. Love them both, a very very uderrated, and immensly talented duo.
Yes she fails some of the notes in the beginning (as I see people complain here in comments), but hey its LIVE, and overall I would say this was well performed.
It's doubtful Mariah Cary would have tackled this song, and she has/had a similar vocal range. In the words of my favourite SSis song ever, "I don't care, I just don't care..." Marcy and Siobhan are peerless!
This song is one of an important song from my childhood, I listened this every single day in Hungary. And yet I love this song and it is amazing that a 70 years old lady sings in LIVE and not in playback. They are both amazing and God Bless them All. (including the other musicians.)
It was great to see this. Siobhan is as great as ever. There were some nerves in the beginning, Performing for the 1st time in front of millions after 27 years, but love these 2 and look forward to more from them
What were people expecting. That their 27 years or so would still be here? Mumm wake up people life happens in all its imperfections. And if it's not up to your standards then get over it. This song still stands in its time today.
If this world is wearing thin And you're thinking of escape I'll go anywhere with you Just wrap me up in chains But if you try to go alone Don't think I'll understand Stay with me Stay with me In the silence of your room In the darkness of your dreams You must only think of me There can be no in between When your pride is on the floor I'll make you beg for more Stay with me Stay with me You'd better hope and pray That you make it safe Back to your own world You'd better hope and pray That you'll wake one day In your own world 'Cause when you sleep at night They don't hear your cries In your own world Only time will tell If you can break the spell Back in your own world Stay with me Stay with me Stay, stay with me, oh! We still love them, no matter what. They managed to create a timeless masterpiece people still absolutely enjoy listening to these days.
She was 40 when the song came out?!?! Damn I thought she was a lot younger
She started off a little nervous i think, but by the end she was phenomenal! Still a great singer
I think nervous by this tour they were great m.ruclips.net/video/eXoxPIxh6FI/видео.html

today they pitch and autotune the hell out of everything. but this was real, i love this song it´s timeless

Especially at those high pitch notes. Majority of people couldn't even attempt to try and do that

5 notes in and it's 1992 and I'm in a room slow dancing with a girl the likes of which I'll never see again. That's talent and songwriting.
🎉😢
One of the best duet songs ever..

I know right even though you can hear the passion in this live.
Marcella Detroit IS TIMELESS!!!!!!!! Yes! Looks and sounds amazing in this video!

Pile of crap performance, they murdered a classic. They should have done us all a favour and "STAY"ed in the 90s where this wonderful song belongs.

If this world is wearing thin
And you're thinking of escape
I'll go anywhere with you
Just wrap me up in chains
But if you try to go alone
Don't think I'll understand
Stay with me
Stay with me
In the silence of your room
In the darkness of your dreams
You must only think of me
There can be no in between
When your pride is on the floor
I'll make you beg for more
Stay with me
Stay with me
You'd better hope and pray
That you make it safe
Back to your own world
You'd better hope and pray
That you'll wake one day
In your own world
'Cause when you sleep at night
They don't hear your cries
In your own world
Only time will tell
If you can break the spell
Back in your own world
Stay with me
Stay with me
Stay, stay with me, oh!
Stay, stay, stay, stay, stay
Stay with me
