There's something completely other-worldly about, not just this song, but Shakespears Sister itself - Siobhan and Marcella are gloriously enchanting together. Will forever love this!
That era had many amazing songs. Even great songs did not make it to number one due to the sure number of songs available. Now the 1990s was not as good as the 1980s as there was a big drop off in the quality.
The early 90s, what a time to be alive, the vibe of the 80's was still felt and something new and future interesting was expected....A time when you left home without a mobile phone, pure adventure....

My interpretation is that her lover (Marcella) is in a coma and Shoiban's character is a demonic force from Hell that has her eyes on him and wants him with her there to dominate and posess him. Sexy and dangerous with religious overture. In fact the song video is pretty much what I'm saying.
Its the marriage of the angel and the devil that makes their collaboration work so well .... the high and low register, the pure light and the mysterious darkness .... the contrast is really brought together brilliantly in their music ...
