53 years old black male and i freaking loved this song. It took me back in another place in the 80's when i enjoyed Neverending Story, Dark Crystal, and other 80's fantasy moments. I wish i can go back and stay in the 80's forever!
I'm crying uncontrollably right now. I was born 1971. This music (80's) is life. I watched my wife and mother pass away just a month apart from each other in 2013. Then my oldest brother lost his father, then his oldest son, and finally he himself. And now my own health is failing. I find comfort on coming on youtube to listen to the 80's music I grew up on, although it can make me tear up. I long for the old days when life was so much more simple and happy.
Two months ago i scape from death. Please dont give up. I remember every doctors treat me in hospital. And i ask to God to still live. Back to fight my friend. Dont stop to fight.
Man I miss the 80's. Growing up as a kid in the 80's I want to go back and stay there. Life was 1000x better then than it is now. Still had my mom and dad and all my brothers. And I had the absolute biggest crush on this girl. I would watch MTV for hours just waiting to see this video
Born in the 80s, grew up mostly in the early 90s, we did have the best childhood. The only “technology” we had was cable tv, and very early dial up “internet” which was locally run message boards and only text. My friends and I rode out bikes all summer, played with walkie-talkies, ran lemonade stands, climbed trees, make picnics, played outside til the street lights came on and mom was calling for us to come in. You couldn’t pay me to be a kid today.
@@bikeguyhd1035 you're right..I don't have kids and they are not in my plans but I'm a full-time uncle ;).. one of my sisters last year got another baby and to be truthfull? It's fuckn scary to think about the future about this wonderful child .. It's such a messed up world we live in and can't even imagine how confusing it must be to growing up
That was the era when artist used to sing and musicians will keep up with it. Now everything is made is pieces. The distributor will create hype and they all will only look at the numbers on social media.
This song is proof that the 80s were the best time for music. 80s were the best! We may not have had cell phones, but we knew how to have fun. Good times, great memories. 80s forever!! Greetings from Saint Marys, Georgia. ❤80s❤
This song has a lot of emotions for me….. my brother battled addiction for over 30 years and in 2021 weeks after he turned 50 lost the battle to drugs…. But I know he is at peace!!! Love you Matthew!
I just turned 50 and have battled addiction for those same 30 years. This song has so much meaning.I am sorry about your brother Mathew.I still have hope and been clean for almost 5years.I very well could have been Mathew.Just remember him for all the good he did in this world.God bless him and you.I am sympathetic to your struggle.
The most beautiful song I ever heard; written about something as dark as addiction and death. Only this artist could sing it with so much delicate harmony and sweetness. Long Live 80's awesome music and singers of that era.
Oh is that what it's about? My first impression when I looked up the lyrics was a relationship gone bad or abusive even, but I like this meaning better actually cuz it's more relatable (cuz addiction can be anything, doesn't automatically mean substance abuse)
I think of this so often! I loved the '80s, it was magical to grow up then. Was it perfect? Nope. I struggle to look past my brain's normal-reflex to see only the best...& I do see the things I'd never want to experience again, like bullies & Dad's drinking. But God, how the GOOD overpowered the Bad! I will always miss that. Always.
Scranton Pennsylvania well Taylor Pennsylvania ruined my reputation by making false accusations about me when I'm actually a good person that cares about others
Reminds me of my wife. She died October 22, 2018 at only the age of 46. So horribly sad after all she was battling in overcoming cancer, anemia, and epstein-barr diseases. This song reminds me of how we all fall down in grief of loved ones who have died and reminds us of our own mortality despite the vibrance and optimism of our youth. Life is precious. Loved ones and family are precious! Cherish the love before we all fall down like toy soldiers!
Wow man, sorry to hear that, man I feel your pain, she passed on my parents birthday, they were the same age, they were soul mates, lost Mom last year, and dad 4 years ago, hang in there man, God bless
The 80's were no doubt a better time. I was in high school when this song came out, and I remember it flying up into the top 10 on the radio charts in no time. Martika..along with many other music groups..led our generation down one crazy road, but they made sure we didn't forget to stop and take in all the good memories we have of those awesome years. I wish the younger generations of today were able to go back and get a taste of those times.
Hello from a 68 year old NANA !! I watched this video on MTV with my teenagers back in the 80’s. I just happened to come across it..... I loved this song and the message it was sending out . I hope it saved some lives , from the world and destruction of drugs. The 80s music did sing to your soul , Chicago, journey, Foreigner , Air supply and so many more ❤️❤️ I still listen to these songs
@@carlosrosa4094 Thank you Carlos !!! In fact I purchased the song from I tunes store and blast it in my car 😂😂. It is a great song ....... I am old but I am not dead . God bless
I graduated High School in 1989 and remember this song vividly. I didn't realize it then but the 80's was a magical decade and a certain innocence and simplicity has been lost since then. When I listen to these old songs I'm instantly transported back in time, and to be honest with you it depresses me somewhat because there is not going back.
Everyone thinks that of the years they were in high school. Nothing anymore special about the 80's than any other decade you just remember it more fondly.
There's just this unique way that some 80s songs hit you, and this is one of them. I'm not sure whether it's the visuals or the way the songs were produced back then, but it just grips you in a way that no other era does.
You are not old; you are wisely experienced and graced with the best music since Alexander left Macedonia. You are only as old as you want to be. The turning of the earth on its axis does not rule you unless you want it to. Now get on your bike and get over here. Dad's cranking up the BBQ and we took the cover off the swimming pool. 😁😁😁😁😆😆😆
It's my go to get serious about owning your story jam. It's too real but I'm ready. We ARE toy soldiers cause that's not real baby but you still love them. Happy Valentine's Day stranger. Stay sober
All 80's music is a treasure. I remember staying up late to watch Friday Night Videos. Then an underground music video showcase on a UHF channel in Chicago. I lived outside the country for 10 years. I always loved returning during Christmas and hearing new sounds. Living abroad exposed me to experiences my American peers couldn't imagine. It shaped me into a person that sees people as people not labels. Many Americans can benefit from that same experience today. Now, with that said. I believe Charli XCX's Boom Clap song borrowed from Toy Soldiers. They may not admit it. But the abstract lyrics and chorus timing are similar elements with a faster tempo. I wouldn't be surprised if she listened to Toy Soldiers and said. "Hey I want a to make a song like that." in her English accent. Of course this is my opinion. You say you don't know another song like this. It's likely you do but can't remember. Because I didn't recall Toy Soldiers until I happened upon it again. I want to share 2 songs that I think will have you feeling some intense emotions. Both are from the same artist. If you're not used to listening to this genre. Give it chance, and maybe it will be best to listen the first time with good headphones. Don't listen on your laptop speakers unless they are high quality. I'm not taking anything away from Toy Soldiers. I love music, any kind of music. Oh, and be careful with the first song. It might scare you at the beginning lol. Enjoy the musical genius of... 1. ruclips.net/video/FWdNd4Pv-6o/видео.html 2. ruclips.net/video/9snzTFzLEq0/видео.html

@@brandonmoore7497 Good for you young man. I was born in 1964 and my childhood and teenage years I wouldn't trade for anything in this world. It was a different world back then I'll tell you and music was first class!!
Why am I just now realizing this song is about addiction!!! I was so young and naive to really understand the pain in this song! Sending my love to everyone that has been touched by addiction and the pain that comes with it!!! Stay strong and believe you can beat it! 11 yrs sober here 🙌🏼❤️
It can be both, but audio versions could be even stronger if you never watched a video version of a song, on the radio for example. (imagination is wilder)
I keep coming back to these songs from my younger days. Getting old sucks, but our music sure as hell didn’t. All genres back then were awesome. Rock, pop, r&b, you name it. True artistry lives on.
As a young teen in the mid 80s these songs stir such a deep emotional feeling within my heart and soul. Listening to this brings back all those lonely feelings of a teen trying to figure out life and all the emotions we experience as we grow up. Glad to have lived in a time when people lived and cared about each other.
Yup. '89 was a strange year in music. It was transitioning to the 90s sound. Most of the music in '89 was awful. Then there were bright spots of good songs like this that used a different way to make good music.
I was born in 69 and the 80’s killed it man . Their is no decade even close. Things we’re simple and the music was the best ever. I wish I could go back forever.
The eightys were the best times of my life I was in my 20tys can't Complain about the 90tys when I had my two sons. But music was amazing then. Now every one really wants to rule the would😜"every body wants to rule the would" 80tys song by tears for fears. Amazing song..
Same minds bro-i am from 82 but 80s is gold era of music and movies!I wanna go back in this years for rest of my life!Peace from Russia and sorry for bad english hermano.. ;)
This song is transcendent. It has a quality that lifts it above the run of the mill pop tune. The feeling that comes through in the lyrics, and the heart and soul Martika puts into it is really special. Thank you.
I'm thinking Depeche mode..Everything counts? The grabbing hands grab all they can, all for themselves, after all its a competitive world, everything counts in large amounts.
I was born in 1980. I was a young kid when this song came out. My sister use to pop in a VHS tape and record MTV videos, hoping this song would play. When it did, that whole VHS tape was her and she would listen to this song over and over. I hated it but here I am, 32 years later, listening to this song, and going back to a happier time in life. Love the 80s.
Great story similar to mine. But in my story, I was sitting in front of the TV and had the tape. Now, many years later, I still feel that moment. The tape itself got lost, but whenever I have a bad moment. I use this "tape" so called internet and the sun comes back
Sorry for your loss Chester, music is the balm for your soul and I'm glad you are getting solace from martika and other music, ❤ and peace pal take care,,,,,,,,,🙏🙏
An absolutely soul touching song. Addiction is no game and all the pain that comes with it. To all the ones still fighting the addictions keep fighting and don't let it win.
Maaan I was 8 years old when this song came out. Born in the U.S. but we moved from the U.S. to Lebanon right in the middle of its Civil War. I recorded this song off the radio and would literally play this song (in our makeshift bomb shelter) over and over on the nights where the fighting and shelling reached our village. It eased my anxiety and helped me go to sleep.. I fucking love this song and hate it at the same time.
I don't understand how some lesser hits are played a lot on the radio today, and others are forgotten. This was a #1 hit in 1989, yet I can't even remember the last time I heard it on the radio.
Me either...it just shows me how cookie cutter radio has become....the light rock station in St. Louis 102.5 literally plays the same stuff everyday when I take my daughter to school...if i hear Old Time Rock and Roll or Total Eclipse Of The Heart much more...i am gonna lose it!
Her vocals are just so beautiful. Its honestly mesmerizing. I feel like this was before audio enhancements made music easy too....its just raw soul and talent. Idunno how I never heard this growing up but wow. Im blown away
The good ol' days for music and movies. The 80's and part of the 90's were THE best times of my life. We were young, healthy and full of life and life was GOOD. Today I have Parkinson's and my time is limited. Enjoy life while you have it.
This song embodies pain and emotion plus the fact that the chorus is sung by children as well as some of the synth sounds add a very special atmosphere of innocence. It's sad that Martika didnt had much success after "Toy Soldiers" but she will be forever remembered for it. Truly a very special song.
Pretty much everything 80s , 90s destroys modern stuff. Films, music , people, creativity, toys, expression. Was a much better time , not without its own share of problems mind. So glad I grew up in this period.
I'm a 37-year old man, yet this song.. who's cutting the onions! Reminds me when I was a young man, full of hopes and dreams, still naive about what awaited me as the years rolled by. No more magic. No more wonder. We all fall down, like you soldiers.. how I wish I could play with real toy soldiers and experience the magic I had once harbored in my youth..
There's still plenty of magic to discover. It doesn't matter what our age (and 37 is still quite a young man, anyway so don't worry there). While I DO understand what you mean about the anticipation we all had in our youth, thinking excitement & even 'answers' of what we should do would somehow appear. They didn't for me, not yet anyway....but I'm still trying....and definitely believing in magic.
Josh...We are all naive...and we have all been taken... It's not just you mon. me? I've been taken and betrayed a thousand times and more....I could give a plug. forget the game my friend....I've seen many people just sink down and stay there because they were betrayed...... The trick has always been for me....I just really couldn't give a cluster . Who cares what people think about you....live your time. Cheers, from Scotland..have a beer.
I'm also 37... I was in the woods playing laser tag with my son today and I'm also painting cartoons... Be responsible but you don't have to totally grow up... I'm not!
Christa Varrone Sorry 70s kid here, my first music was watching Partridge Family TV Show 1970 -1974. I was kinda a ladies man in grade school the girls loved my IRISH Freckels on my face. Not only that Mom side gave us kids 16 first cousins. IRISH Familys are known for having lots of kids. Too Bad ST PATRICKS PARADE is cancelled because of that Corona Virus. My Family turned out all right we all new our limits with Alcohol. Kinda funny I took a liken to Partridge Family Music at 8 years old. Some of those 70s concerts were crazy because of very little Security, even indoor concerts were bad. Then again how do you control 75,000 fans. Freckels in IRELAND are called ANGEL KISSES. She did. Everything now is just overblown and generic. Don't worry, we felt this at the time. There is just too much now. Over exposure and stimulation.
I grew up in the 80s and when this song came out it was instantly a song you knew would last the eons of time. It was classic then and remains one of the most stirring songs of that period and is still so currently meaningful even now in late 2022,I find it amazing that it has never dated like so many others.

Came out in 88, became super popular in 89. It was on the radio all the time! I was 17, hadn't had my license very long. I was driving my dad's 67 Ford truck all over Jacksonville FL, worked during the day for a lawn company. Some great memories!
Thanks for the details, Paul. Heard this often in my youth, but never knew who sung it until now. My husband is not a big help, seems British charts in the 80s had not all big american songs like we (Germany) did. We still find songs he's never heard of. So glad Google recognized my humming ;)
Oh honey God bless u!!! I'm sorry baby sorry I can't imagine ur pain but just know u have a sister suffering in a different kind of pain and we need to be here for each other no matter what! ❤❤❤❤
I remember being a child and waking up one morning, the soft sunlight dappled on my face through the tree just outside my bedroom window, with this song playing quietly on the small radio I kept next to my bed. It was the first time I ever heard it and there was something about it that immediately stood out to me. I don't remember ever hearing it again on the radio after that and it wasn't long before we moved across state and the 80s ended. In a way, this song symbolizes not just that moment but an entire era, lost to the sands of time and kept only in bittersweet memory.
phubans I heard it one day in 1996 on my radio when I woke up. It was when I lived in Montana. I only lived there 4 years, but I feel the same as you. It was the first time and last I heard it, but I never forgot it. There was something special about it.
phubans , I can relate. This song was popular in mid to late 1989 , about the time my parents moved me thousands of miles. I was 16. Not across the state, but across the country. So, yes it takes on a double meaning and a sadness. The end of the 80s and in essence, my childhood home. Thanks for sharing.
Back in the days of these types of artists, these songs TOOK YOU SOMEWHERE. Like, with the videos giving you imagery, the passion in the singer's eyes, the uplifting melodies... There was a safety in it all. A wonder and discovery of the world around you. All things were new. Ideas were exciting. We felt more one with others and the world. You could buy these albums and get completely lost in these songs, bc there was no internet or phones or political bullsh*t to distract you. You were actually free to ENJOY things. It was music that went deep into your soul and tickled it. You sung along and felt totally FREE. Music today can nowhere near do this anymore.
Walter Velarde although I would give a couple of arms and legs to grow up in that same decade, having all these legendary tunes in my pocket is a true gift of technology. Wish I was born earlier but still proud to be a millennial! Seriously you're a lucky bastard never forget that buddy
This song makes me nostalgic for my teen years. I was fifteen when this came out in 1989. This was one of those songs that was always playing when laying next to the pool that summer, just having fun with my friends and not realizing those would be the most carefree and innocent days of our lives.
RazorFriendly yep! Reminds me of hanging out with my friend next door. I was 13. She played this song so much. I don’t think teens lay by the pool as much. They need constant entertainment from electronics. It really was a beautiful time.
This song takes me back to childhood during the 80's. A time when life was much simpler and people talked to each other, face to face, for hours. If you needed answers, you rode your bike to the library and hung out with Dewey Decimal. The entire summer was spent at the public pool where the air was full of chlorine, kids were taking turns seeing how far they could swim underwater on one breath, and for snacks we had Mello Yello and Chick-o-Sticks. Riding my bike all over town because everyone knew everyone and we looked out for each other and didn't have to worry about getting snatched up or shot at. If you got in trouble, you're bike was never fast enough to beat the phone call home to your parents and you were held accountable for your actions. No cellphones, no computers, no video games (unless your parents had money). We weren't allowed to sit in the house on a sunny day and we never ate a meal at home that wasn't at the table. My God, how I miss those years. I wish I would have realized how special they were.
The 80s were rife with serial killers and child abductors, much more so than now. Lack of security cameras, no computer databases to analyze crimes, no DNA databases...I grew up in the 70s and 80s, but let's not pretend they were free from anything bad. Hell, where I lived there was a series of child murders that has still never been solved.
@@jeanettedodds9774 a few beers on a Sunday and yes I'm listening. first heard this song when in high school I am now putting my glasses on to watch hahaha
I haven’t heard this song in decades but it apparently left a bookmark in my mind all those years ago and my mind and heart went right back to the same place. Music is magical.
It works momentary magic o connecting the past and present in dementail patients, who (let's face it even if it's hard) don't have a future. Even if they are your mother who appears to be suffering because the government was not responsive to her needs. Except it wasn't "They say you're no good, but you take care of all my needs?"
i was going thru change i guess, 40 and looking for a new love, left my husband, had a fling then returned home.things went back to boring but i will always have that crazy year!
I was a 14 Year Old Skateboarding Kid back in 1989. Back when I first heard this song, fell in love with it ever since. Martika's voice is Timeless, this song is Beautiful beyond words.
Ditto. In ‘89 I was 14, boarding around the entire town with friends practically all day and into the night… all the freedom in the world to make mistakes, get hurt, get into a bit of trouble (kids stuff, nothing serious) and learn from it. All the while listening to stuff like this. Parents trusted their kids to have common sense back then and rewarded them by letting them be kids. Parents too back then were chill and you know what, everything turned out just fine for everyone I knew from those days. I’m sure kids had it just as good in the ‘70s, ‘60s, ‘50s and so on. ‘90s might have been the last decade of this before society and parents lost their minds and decided screen time in the safety of the house was the way to go. Both parents and kids turned paranoid and soft soon thereafter.
In a modern context, this particular song is very much a western counterpart to the Japanese "city pop" era of music. Inspired by new wave and heavy on synth, with the structure rock music, but slowed down to the tempo of jazz, with a faintly downbeat and reflective mood.
Johnny Marlin A time when life was simple and free. A time when summertime you look out the window and see kids riding their bikes and playing hopscotch and neighbors would have weekend bbq...
This song was a turning point in my life. Admitted to hospital because of drugs. Whilst recovering listened to hospital radio and this song came on. I still believe it was a sign to this day. Drugs are the friend that drops you like a stone and ruins your life.
Drugs make you feel good, thats what most people forget to mention. Speed and coke make you feel like you're king of the world. Acid takes you to another place. Weed helps you relax and enjoy music. None of this is real, reality is living through your life without help, except maybe lager.
Also, not often mentioned: Drugs do not force you to put them inside your body, therefore, lie, blameless. Unless, of course, you are ambushed by a herd of wascawy Mexican Jumping Drugs. Oh, the humanity the humanity.....
You're 100% right man.. No one can go back to the past...Only God can do that . He lives in the past, Present , and Future at the same time. God created time too. In other words we are the only ones to live in the time past , present and future. It's hard to understand it ...but that's the truth👍👍
I still listen to eighties music. How glad I am that I have been so aware of my life and music in the seventies, eighties and nineties. We now live in a time of confusion, sickening commercialization and self-centeredness. I believe that the music nowadays is an example of the soulless time we live in.
People have been saying that about every decade they were in forever. I remember my folks waxing poetic about the 60s during the 80s. There has been sickening commercialism and soulless pop music for at least 40 years now. There are still good people being raised, still rich and beautiful music being produced. And in 30 years, folks will reminisce about today when it was "a simpler time, when everything was so much more real". It's all a matter of perspective.
Still as powerful today as 30 years ago. As a kid in the 80's I loved this song because of the sound, as a recovering addict I love the song for it's message. Also I loved Martika on "Kids Inc.!" Along with Fergie and Jennifer Love Hewitt. ❤️
As a survivor of addicts behavior I want to say you are brave. Stay sober. I hope you made amends. I wish I could see them to forgive them strangely enough. Stay sober and earn forgiveness lovey Hatred is addiction. Find the Light.
@@gmandersonjr dear Gary Thanks for your service. I have trauma. My doctor gave medicine for the worst. Then I studied Kundalini Yoga. It helped me own my story but ultimately let it go. LOL that's when it got crazy! Your pain is not the real You. You are just like all of Creation . You are energy. Traumatic events bind us. We carry them until we let them go but they don't define us. Ultimately I studied Sanskrit at a Hare Krishna temple. My friend there was a vet. Air Force in Nam. I am not proselytizing but yoga works no matter what you believe. I pray you find Peace after the horror of war. BTW a D.O is less about medicine than an M.D. Big Pharma is real. Get to the heart. Yours is hurting but there are caring folks out there. Odd combo. Wife and I are 16 yrs apart (I'm 51/she's 35 with an 8 yr old son and a 23 yr old daughter from my first marriage), we have taken musical tastes from my time. 80s and some 70s. We all love this time for music. This track is timeless.
This song reminds me of my daughter who died of congestive heart failure at 9 years old on August 9th 2013...She was just nine years old and it was sooooo hard to bury our daughter....She died in my wife's arms when I was sitting next to my wife on our bed....I could not understand how God could allow this to happen and for the next 2 years I would cry my eyes out everywhere I went and when I thought about her....I could not get that child out of my mind and that image of her taking her last breath right in my wife's arms......Time had made it better today however I fell down like a toy soldier for two years...
Sorry for your loss! God has plans for her. You will see her again, I hope to see my father one day. He passed away back in 05. I never got to say good bye to him. I wish you all the happiness in the world! I will say a prayer for your little one. I know she is with God and the Angels in Heaven!
IM so sorry for the loss of your little Angel , they say time will heal! You and your wife and little girl will be together again oneday, sending my love and prayers to you and your family!!!
I agree the 70s and 80s was the good old days when we was all civil to each other and the bills and shopping was not expensive the beer was cheap everything was better 100%

Me too it was better then
I'm crying uncontrollably right now.
Feel your pain m a 70's kid n lost mom way to young from drinking😔
You are special.

Very true born 72 wish I could go back to the 80's and stay there. Oh just thinking about them old days Jesus why cant it be like back then
Man I miss the 80's. Growing up as a kid in the 80's I want to go back and stay there. Life was 1000x better then than it is now. Still had my mom and dad and all my brothers. And I had the absolute biggest crush on this girl. I would watch MTV for hours just waiting to see this video
Yeah...I feel the same ..was the best time...
Still have both my parents but my dad is in a very bad shape...
So scared of losing him ..

The Golden Age of Music...60's, 70's, 80's, some 90's!!
90s..🔥🔥
I agree! I've been listening to music since 1958 when I was 5. Music brings the world together...
we need to bring our dreams back
That was the era when artist used to sing and musicians will keep up with it. Now everything is made is pieces. The distributor will create hype and they all will only look at the numbers on social media.
I couldn't agree more. I love me some 60s 70s 80s and some 90s music. The cacophony of today i can't listen to.
This song is proof that the 80s were the best time for music. 80s were the best! We may not have had cell phones, but we knew how to have fun. Good times, great memories. 80s forever!! Greetings from Saint Marys, Georgia. ❤80s❤

Aw, the 70s had some pretty hot tunes, too.
Oddly enough I did use a cell phone in the late 80s, and I don't own one now.
i'd say 90's and 2000s were better, no offence

This song has a lot of emotions for me….. my brother battled addiction for over 30 years and in 2021 weeks after he turned 50 lost the battle to drugs…. But I know he is at peace!!! Love you Matthew!

Sorry for your brother... O know who's this meaning
Are those "Deutsche Bund-Mädels?
Most nostalgic song of the 80s
Didn’t even realise it was about that. Knew all the words though since I was a kid
Oh is that what it's about? My first impression when I looked up the lyrics was a relationship gone bad or abusive even, but I like this meaning better actually cuz it's more relatable (cuz addiction can be anything, doesn't automatically mean substance abuse)
@@tenshimoon In the video her boyfriend is paying a dealer money for drugs, so in this case the song is about drug addiction.

Somebody just said, "let me go back to the 80s, I promise I won't come back". I agree. It was magic.
Those days were Magic for sure. Wishing I would have appreciated them at the time.
Always.

So sorry for your loss, Dave. I hope you find peace.
Your wife may be gone but the memories of her will never go away.

Christa Varrone Sorry 70s kid here, my first music was watching Partridge Family TV Show 1970 -1974. I was kinda a ladies man in grade school the girls loved my IRISH Freckels on my face. Some kids wernt very nice they said is your whole Family a bunch of DRUNKS. That is kinda True most people think all IRISH are DRUNKS. I guess us IRISH are a little weird some born with Red Hair & Freckels covering our whole Body. Its funny Freckels disappear from our face but not the body. IRISH FOLKLORE says we get our Freckels from the Sun. That makes no sense IRISH Skin Burns easily in the sun. Us O"GRADY boys most have been good looking, these girls kept coming to our house some times right after school. Too bad only 8-9 year olds. For some reason my girlfriends called me James instead of Jim or Jimmy. I really liked my Rock N Roll Music ROLLING Stones Led Zeppelin, Alice Cooper, Bob Seger, Doobie Brothers, Allman Brothers Lynyrd Skynyrd. I liked how those 70s girls had the hots for those Long Hair Rock Stars. Heres a few corny IRISH sayings I AM A LEPRECHAUN I DONT DATE HUMANS, YOU DONT SCARE ME I WAS RAISED BY AN IRISH MOTHER. AN IRISH GIRL WITHOUT FRECKELS IS LIKE A SKY WITHOUT STARS. AN IRISH GIRL IS A GUYS BEST DRINKING BUDDY. WARNING I MAY BE PRONE TO SHENANIGANS & MALARKEY. REDHEAD IRISH GIRLS ARE EXTRA FIESTY IN THE BEDROOM. MAY THE LUCK OF THE IRISH BE WITH YOU. KISS ME IM IRISH NO REALLY IM IRISH. PARENTS were crazy having 10 IRISH Kids. Sorry about all IRISH Stuff Im just Proud of my IRISH HEARITAGE. RIP DAVID CASSIDY

How come this artist never got the recognition that she deserved? After all these years, I'm only discovering her now.
She did. Everything now is just overblown and generic. Don't worry, we felt this at the time. There is just too much now. Over exposure and stimulation.

Probably cos we were so utterly spoiled with incredible artists & now music is just rubbish remakes 🤷♀️

This song is about drug addiction incase people were wondering. I met Martika in 1989 and she was lovely. Such a powerful and unique voice.
I grew up in the 80s and when this song came out it was instantly a song you knew would last the eons of time.
It was classic then and remains one of the most stirring songs of that period and is still so currently meaningful even now in late 2022,I find it amazing that it has never dated like so many others.
Lyrics:
Step by step
Heart to heart
Left, right, left
We all fall down
Like toy soldiers
It wasn't my intention to mislead you
It never should have been this way
What can I say?
It's true
I did extend the invitation
I never knew how long you'd stay
When you hear temptation call
It's your heart that takes
Takes the fall
(Won't you come out and play with me?)
Step by step
Heart to heart
Left, right, left
We all fall down
Like toy soldiers
Bit by bit
Torn apart
We never win
But the battle wages on
For toy soldiers
It's getting hard to wake up in the morning
My head is spinning constantly
How can it be?
How could I be so blind to this addiction?
If I don't stop
The next one's gonna be me
Only emptiness remains
It replaces all
All the pain
(Won't you come out and play with me?)
Step by step
Heart to heart
Left, right, left
We all fall down
Like toy soldiers
Bit by bit
Torn apart
We never win
But the battle wages on
For toy soldiers
Only emptiness remains
It replaces all
All the pain
(Won't you come out and play with me?)
Step by step
Heart to heart
Left, right, left
We all fall down
Like toy soldiers
Bit by bit
Torn apart
Never win
The battle wages on
For toy soldiers
Step by step
Heart to heart
Left, right, left
We all fall down

I remember being a child and waking up one morning, the soft sunlight dappled on my face through the tree just outside my bedroom window, with this song playing quietly on the small radio I kept next to my bed. It was the first time I ever heard it and there was something about it that immediately stood out to me. I don't remember ever hearing it again on the radio after that and it wasn't long before we moved across state and the 80s ended. In a way, this song symbolizes not just that moment but an entire era, lost to the sands of time and kept only in bittersweet memory.
phubans you have a wonderful way with words. Are you a writer?
I am not a writer by profession but people have told me they enjoy reading what I write. Thank you for being one of those people!
phubans I heard it one day in 1996 on my radio when I woke up.

70s has it on the 80s

Always loved this song. Met her in New Orleans
It was a simpler better time.

I still listen to eighties music. How glad I am that I have been so aware of my life and music in the seventies, eighties and nineties. We now live in a time of confusion, sickening commercialization and self-centeredness. I believe that the music nowadays is an example of the soulless time we live in.
And 60s too..
@@bqkmg2037 Absolutely true Ben.
So true!
Self centeredness. Eitelkeit

The 80s and even the 70s were timeless and will never be recalled
I agree the 70s and 80s was the good old days when we was all civil to each other and the bills and shopping was not expensive the beer was cheap everything was better 100%
My favorite two decades!!!
Recalling it right here. Never repeated.
I'm 48 years old and I'll always listen to 80s music to feel better about my life. Cause that's when music had feelings and emotions.
47 and ditto
Like that for anyone growing up during their teen years
Buena música hermosa me ase recordar cuando tenía 14 años
Nowadays is just soulless pop culture garbage for the most part.
The exception to the rule was the rule back then.
That’s what every generation says.
