That story about the PCT hiker getting a ticket for jaywalking is INSANE!

That was nothing. Look up the video: San Francisco woman injured by police during jaywalking arrest | KTVU. The title says it all. It's not even legal for cops to stop people for jaywalking in California, but they do it anyway. The cops just to what ever they want.

FWIW....Hwy 58 through Tehachapi is a MAJOR trucking route and I'm gonna bet that CHP officer has probably responded to fatalities from people crossing the highway in the wrong spot. A warning would have been sufficient. Not like he was doing it again anytime soon.

Just how much worse is it really in China or Russia? Sometimes I wonder. Such a gut punch to anyone who fought or died for freedom. These cops that do this should get yelled at, but they live in delusion because people are too afraid.

I know you are disappointed about not maintaining a continuous footpath but with the number of fires this year I am amazed by how little you have had to skip around. Be safe RR, love the videos!

I find the interpersonal dynamics on the trail to be very fascinating. One can go days without much human interaction and then in a matter of minutes meet a group of people that almost instantly become friends.

As of January 1, 2023, jaywalking is not a criminal offense in California, according to the Freedom to Walk Act, also known as AB 2147. The law allows pedestrians to cross the street at non-intersection and non-crosswalk locations if it's safe to do so. However, police can still stop and cite pedestrians if they are creating a hazard,

Goat Rocks are like Franconia ridge on the AT??? Who the heck told you that? 🤣 Franconia does not even tickle anything on the PCT, let alone the Goat Rocks. Nothing on the AT compares as a matter of fact.
The fire seems substantial. Too bad. It's a beautiful area of WA. But you'll get your chance to enjoy the Goat Rocks. It seems that Glacier peak wilderness up ahead is also closed as well as Stehiken area. WA is just really suffering from wildfires.
And to your question, the fires are caused by thunder storms. WA is green for a reason, it gets a lot more weather than OR and NoCal. So, summer thunderstorms are a thing. It's also drier than usual.

Nice video. 100 years ago, the Swedes were having a lot of food shortages. My mother's parents left Sweden and came to the NYC area where there was a Swedish community. I imagine that the Finns were having the same problems. Where I live now, in NE Connecticut there used to be a large Finnish community. We still have an acive Finnish/American Society Hall in my small town. Seeing flags for most countries is common. Happy Trails. Good Luck, Rick

Morning, Juliane. Glad you were able to work it out so you only missed 22 or so miles. That's a blessing. Boy, that fire did blow up in a hurry. Is Somewhere ahead of you or behind? Am just wondering if she made it through. At least you were able to get your burger at Trout Lake. And you now have new friends, too. So another blessing. With you and fires, I'm gonna have to pray more for your safety. The trail you hiked was beautiful. Take care, Juliane. Stay safe. See you tomorrow.

Continuous footpath is so much a matter of luck on when and where the fire closures are and what walk arounds can be found. You just got to the fire areas at the height of fire season. But if you start earlier the Sierra is impassable due to snow, start later and fires are worse plus heat in desert is terrible. One of them things out of your control you just have to accept. Happens to almost every PCT hiker last few years both NOBO and SOBO. You have almost an obsession about it but it is getting better.

So happy for you that it was 22 instead of 66. Also, I follow Rach and Dan and their video for yesterday was Goat Rocks. It is so thrilling and gorgeous! I can’t wait to see your footage!
I know that, because of the lag, that, if you were able, you’ve already hiked it. I guess I’ll know tomorrow or the next day. Nice to see you’ve met some interesting hikers!

Wow! That J-walking story seems a bit petty to me. I'm very pro Law Enforcement. In fact, I'm a Law Enforcement Firearms Instructor and the officers that I know would not have been that petty. That officer must have been having a bad shift to be that petty to hand out a ticket. Sad, but I guess it happens. :( Lots of hikers at camp. Funny how you've traveled so far and you're just now seeing or meeting them, but I guess that's the trail. Safe travels and happy trails!

Perhaps you have already tried this, but in case you haven't: I assume your peak finder is an app. If so, perhaps, the next chance you get, uninstall it and reinstall it and that might get it working again.

8:00 Jaywalking has become legal in California since 2023. Bubblehead should not get a ticket. Hope he'll appeal.
For us motorists, the Freedom to Walk Act is a terrible law. I've had several close calls myself when people just cross the street without paying attention to the traffic.
