How do you get the moisture out of your (presumably) down insulation afterwards though? If you stuff your down bag when it's damp, it looses loft and warmth.

Julianne, have you ever working/volunteering for the ATC? The ATC has a bad wrap, but I think you would be a great advocate for it.

I've done that drive up 81 to Albany and into Vermont that I'm absolutely sick of it, and I'm glad you aren't showing it. An awful lot of that ride is pretty dreadful. Way too many humans on the roads.

I am a bit irritated with Pisgah National Forest. What is the deal with this area being the only one closed? Honestly, I think they want to study it and send it to another committee. Our beloved AT is struggling to recover, but it seems like this one place has got the brakes on!

Well, you have found what makes you truly happy...when you started hiking the PCT you had a lot of questions about your future and what you wanted to do. I see Ranger Roadrunner or something in the Park Services in your future. They say to find what you love and make a living out of it. You're glowing when you're outdoors or at the hostels helping out, etc.

Mountain people have never been afraid of hard work, it’s how they make a living. And as you see they are also very resilient and don’t get all down they just pick up the chain saws and go to work like any other day. They don’t quit. A lot of those people are of Scots and Irish ancestry. They don’t mind help as long as at some point they can help you. My family 3 generations and on back for 200 years is from the NC mountains. I’m really thankful you took time to help out, you could have just sent money but when you spend your time, blood and sweat you are the real deal. And you are the real deal. You’re now family to those folks and don’t take that lightly as it isn’t given lightly. I’m interested to see what’s next. Safe travels and Happy Thanksgiving!😅

Trail maintenance is a tough job.. Here in Ohio, we have the Buckeye trail, which circles the entire state. The North country trail and American discovery trail intersect the BT and travel together in some areas. I maintained a 3 mile section of trail by myself for 5 years.. It took every weekend all summer long to keep up on it. Trail maintainers are the unsung heroes of all trails.. It ain't easy..

Yes, three days of trail maintenance reminds you of muscles you rarely use. Thanks for heading out and giving the maintenance crews some help. Maybe you can save a day each month to help the crews in your local area, that's how I plan, but I end up adding days just because I enjoy the workout and the people. It's fun to hike a piece of trail you've worked and meet people you worked with on different trails. Have a great Thanksgiving coming up!

That is a lot of hard work you and the other maintenance crews have done on the AT! Kudos! 👏 💐 You could get a dashcam that has a forward facing and cabin facing camera for talking while you drive. 😊 I got 1 on Amazon for pretty cheap. And the forward facing is a good safety feature in case you're ever in a crash and need evidence that the driver ahead of you is an idiot 😉
