Miles....amazing. Do not know all the logistics but word of caution. Yes, set your own pace. However, be careful you do not loose other members of your hiker group due to your aggressive hiking miles.

Interesting view of the footwear. Doesn't seem stout enough for hiking over chunky granite. If they make a durable shoe, the uppers shouldn't be mesh nylon. But then the ultra-light thru-hikers would not buy them because they'd be too heavy.

Mosquitos are feed for a lot of birds, bats, etc. Yes, nearly anyone could have devised a less-annoying food source.

9:28 LOL… every trail is different with its own challenges. I’m happy to know the Sierra isn’t impossible! I just think it’s great to hit it in the first 1000 miles… the Whites at the end of the AT hit me when I was already exhausted… once the Sierra is over you will know know it is done for the whole rest of the trail!

You are at the end of the Southern Sierra Nevada mountains. The Sierra range is 400 miles and ends just prior to Lassen Volcanic park. There it turns into the cascade range.

National Geographic called the area north of Tahoe The Lost Sierra. I lived and worked there awhile and to get a job, you had to inherit a chainsaw.

I am a mosquito magnet and I have been using a combination of permethrin and picaridin lotion for a few years now. It is the only combination that I can rely on the keep the mosquitos away. I treat my clothes, tent, and backpack then apply the lotion to any exposed skin. There has been a couple of times where I use the picaridin under my shirt or pants if the bugs are REALLY bad! Just sharing my experience with these products in case you or the others find it helpful.

You guys are doing great! The phrase you were looking for is "High Sierra." That's what everyone calls this part of the Sierra Nevada. - I supposed Ring of Fire is appropriate, because all the mountains on the PCT are part of the tectonic ring of fire. Of course the actual volcanoes start with Lassen and Shasta in the Cascades.

@paisleyfamily5972 You'd be amazed at what hikers leave behind in federally designated wilderness areas 😉 boxers are the least bothersome. One time I hauled out 5 pair of boxers, 4 ss t-shirts and 5 ls t-shirts, 2 button-up shirts, 2 pair of jeans and 1 pair of shorts, a sweatshirt, a quart bottle of contact lens solution, assorted packages of food, and a bunch other hygiene items that someone abandoned on a trail in designated wilderness. Another time it was a 20 quart stainless pot, a cotton flannel lined sleeping bag, some random clothing items, candles and matches, and a bag of food. Once i hauled out an entire family-size tent and a 16x20 tarp along with food and cooking utensils, and some random clothes. And all that is just the biggest collections. Every summer I pack out abandoned shoes, jackets, shirts, trekking poles, etc., it never ends!

You are right. The Sierra continues almost all the way to the halfway point. You will see the sign just north of Belden. You are done with the high sierra. Keep crushing the low sierra! Thank you for the videos!!!

It seems like after 11 weeks your enthusiasm for the trail is seriously flagging, bug complaints, superfluity of this pass or that pass, your marking of the miles, the keeping of time with miles, the measuring of distance, then you say, “smashing”, or “Luv this!” Holy cow girl, are you really committed to this project? Contrary, I love your reports and commentary, the description of your progress, the reporting of your trail games are all fun. The scenery is stellar, good luck to you, stay safe and be of good courage. Mosquitos are important because they are endangered to the universe and only exist on earth hence giving the galatic galaxy confederation a reason to not blow up our planet when experiment 626 made his way here. (This is a lilo and stitch reference, im sorry 😂😂)
