    It’s your hike not ours. I didn’t even know Mt. Whitney was a side trail on the PCT so there’s that.😂. Happy trails.🤘🏻🥾⛰️

    I'm following a number of PCT'ers this year, and almost all of them that have made it that far as of yet have either said no to Whitney from the outset, or decided to try it, and about half way up turned around due to very sketchy conditions and the safety risks.
    All of that is to say it's probably not safe right now to try and tackle it.

    @ 5:35 ...If you were to attempt Mt Whitney now, you would be following the JMT. It's the same trail from Crabtree Meadow ;-)
    Doing it later in the year would make it easier, as there would be less/no snow and ice. Be safe 🙂

  • @highway88hiking38
    @highway88hiking38 3 месяца назад +1

    I think you are very smart to not do Whitney this time of year after a heavy snow season. I've done Whitney by itself, I did the JMT and bypassed Whitney as I had already done it via the Whitney Portal. It's no joke. Especially after you pass the 13K elevation mark. Do it next year as part of the JMT. And I suggest doing the JMT later in the year after the snow melt. The experience will be completely different than what you will see on the PCT.

    Whitney also interrupts the nobo flow. For example, after attempting, rach and dan stopped before tyndall, whereas crabtree straight to the base of forester is more natural
    From there, you can get up around 6am, hit forester and maybe even get over kearsarge, or stay under it by the lakes past bullfrog
    You can spend a lifetime exploring the range. The pct/jmt misses hundreds of alpine lakes and x- country routes & passes located in the peaks surrounding you
    Whitney itself can be done in multiple ways, from the east or west, ranging from a day hike to 3-4 night quickie long weekends
    Heck, you could even do something direct in sept/oct, going up shepard, x-country to wallace, then on the jmt, whitney and out

  • @andiO14
    @andiO14 4 месяца назад +3

    Make your own decision about Whitney, but also keep in mind the 3 people who unfortunately passed this year I believe were skiing/snowboarding and on the mountaineers route, not the route you’d be on. You can always turn around. If you do it go in the early morning, and enjoy it, Whitney is a very special place. Keep it up!

    • @robbrandtBSA
      @robbrandtBSA 4 месяца назад +1

      All three were on the east side of Whitney, roadrunner would be ascending from the west and going back down on the west. None of the fatalities were skiing or boarding. Two were descending a chute and apparently slipped and went all the way down, and the other was on a guided trip and a rock fell on him.

    first rule of thru-hiking; Don't die. If you don't feel comfortable going up Mt. Whitney, then don't. It's a big ass mountain, and it's not on the PCT, so there's no "need" to do it, other than the Sir Edmund Hillary reasoning of "because it's there". Don't die.

    • @MaxZomboni

      Mt. Whitney is not over hyped. It's the highest peak on the 48 states, and has amazing views.

    • @Yetithruhikes
      @Yetithruhikes 4 месяца назад

      @@MaxZomboni That's your opinion. The peak is not prominent and barely noticeable on the entire ridge line. The views are exactly the same. If one wants to climb it just to claim they climbed ''the highest peak in the lower 48'' that's their choice. There are definitely a lot more massive and interesting peaks in the world and in the USA. It is overhyped and if they vlogger here will feel umcomfortable doing it then she will not be missing much, or anything.

    All I want to know, Julianne, is "did you eat that whole hotcake?" That thing totally overwhelmed the plate. Looked delicious. Glad you spent a lot of time resting. The rest probably came in handy as you started the Sierra. Besides, you're entitled to a rest day, whenever you need one. I so enjoy your videos. You have a great relationship with the camera. Your sense of humor is great. I even appeciate your sense of irony. You are a great hiker and I believe you can do anything you set your mind to
    do. By now, you're through or almost through the Sierra. Take care. Stay safe. See you tomorrow.

    Loved you got to meet Frozen. He truly is an inspiration for my future AT hike though after watching you on the PCT, and I have had some backpacking on it. It gives me the itch to pursue it over the AT. I tried hiking Whitney early April years ago and hit knee deep snow. I’ve watched some hikers ahead of you who have turned around. Stay safe. Love your new tramily. Stay safe and enjoy watching your transformation on this trail.

    I agree with you, waiting on your decision whether to climb Mt Whitney is a good move. All climbing should be based on the climbing conditions and your goal. Since the conditions at this time are not the typical mostly dry trail and your goal is complete the PCT, Mt Whitney is a delay in acheiving your highest goal. The challenge of hiking through the Sierra in high snow conditions is challenge enough.

    Hi Julianne. FYI. No PCT hikers have died on Mt Whitney. They all were coming from different routes doing different adventures. Also the hike to summit Whitney on the JMT and PCT is the exact same route leading up from Crabtree Meadows. Having said that you should always do what is safest and best for you. As you stated, Mt Whitney is not part of the PCT. Enjoying your videos, thank you for bringing us along!!
