    You know, this kind of makes Odin a tragic character, then. His actions, while reprehensible, were born out of fear. A fear that - if your theory in this video happened to hold any weight - Athena instilled in Odin. I find that intriguing. What other god king was infected with fear after Pandora's Box was opened? Zeus.

    • @arciere9986
      @arciere9986 11 месяцев назад +37

      He is tragic, such an amazing villain that calling him a villain feels like a crime. But much like Zeus, they way they handled their fear, they used their God king status to abuse their families, murder and imprison innocents in hopes to avoid prophecies, all for their own wants and wishes. This i believe was their downfalls, they're just horrible kings who's castles fell long before Kratos brought em down

      Yes a good theory. What I noticed doesn't have anything to do with this theory. I did however notice how similar it is in appearance to the wooden mask in Skyrim which when worn transports you to a time before the area around was destroyed. Also similar to the wooden mask from the movie The Mask with Jim Carrey. If I remember correctly it belonged to a god of mischief... Loki in the original Norse mythology was such a god. Probably nothing but, just thought I'd mention it. Perhaps all wood masks are alike.

    Athena being Gefjon makes sense because it follows a pattern that has been established in both norse games:
    When a character from one mythology travels to another, they take the role of a character from that new mythology. For example.
    Kratos was from Greece. He travels to Scandinavia and there he is known as Farbauti by the giants, which turns out to be the name of Loki’s father in the mythology.
    Mimir originally was “Puck”, from Arthurian legends. He was from Scotland/United Kingdom. Once he travelled to Scandinavia, he took the role of Mimir, from Norse Mythology.
    So Athena somehow ended up in norse mythology, and “took the mantle” of Gefjon.
    This makes me wonder, if Atreus starts traveling to other mythologies, will he become the trickster figure of each one he passes by? Because almost every mythology has a Loki, a chaotic being, a liar, a trickster.

If any Greek god could track him across realms like that it would be her. It also changes the context of one of the most important parts in god of war 2018, when Kratos gets the blades, and he says “I know, but I’m your monster no longer” which makes that line so painful for Kratos as he is still being used by Athena as a monster to eliminate her threats

    This plays into something Ive been wondering about the series. WHAT EXACTLY created the gods and the world. They all have different creation stories WHILE also all being true. And the one constant among them all is humanity is present. Gods exist, but theyre different gods. Monsters, but different monsters. Only humanity is the same across all the different mythologies. But those mythologies are true. So where did all the pantheons come from? Why is the rift, mask, and ascended Athena green? Why is Athena the only "ghost god"? Is there an afterlife for gods? Why is Kratos at the center of all of it? There's so many questions about this universe that I need answered

    is it also possible that the silent matron could refer to the statues Athena spoke to kratos through? a statue is usual statue and depicts athena as she was; the goddess of battle wisdom. Maybe she had one of her statues kept in a place she knew Odin would eventually find, maybe adored in more nordic clothing, baring the mask on its face.

    It would be really nice to see a female villain who is just as deplorably evil and manipulative as so many male villains have been used. Seriously, most female villains are given tragic stories or warped justification for their actions. And its rare you get a male villain like that. Moving on, if she does end up being the big final evil that maybe Atreaus has to face himself, possibly with Thor's daughter, that would be great.

    I like this theory because it reminds me of how the Norns called Kratos Cruel Striker. Cruel Striker = Farbauti. Farbauti is the Father of Loki. Gefjon's ghost being a subtle hint towards Athena reminds me of that tie in by thd norns; Odin raving about how he stared into the abyss of the rift and something stared back at him, and the rift being the green associated with Athena's ascension; the deliberate use of Silent Matron; it all ties together to create a great theory with great proof! I wonder if the projection of Athena in GOW 2018 was actually her, but she was only showing herself to Kratos and not Mimir in that moment to haunt him during that time? Which also happens to tie in her being a "ghost."

  • @jamesbrennan8232
    @jamesbrennan8232 7 месяцев назад

    What if there was more to this than just that. I had this thought that what if you don’t become a god of something simply by being born but you ascend to it. In a way I had thought that what if certain gods do not become the God of the Oceans, of War, of Wisdom, of Fire and so forth because they were born that way, what if they actually ascend to that level through certain ritual or means. Look at what happened with Kratos after he killed Ares, he took his throne and became the God of War, more than that Hercules was slated to take that Throne after Kratos was killed. What if there was prescience for that? Why not make Hercules the God of War immediately after Kratos was gone? Why did he need to die? Beyond that each god had many titles and often were the gods of multiple forces.
    What if becoming the god of a specific phenomena actually afforded you extra power or a specific connection to something greater. What if gods actually didn’t have their alignment decided at birth but were actually given it through ceremony and crowning.
    Perhaps the Greek Pantheon were able to expand on this further, creating better conduits for this cosmic force for them to tap into and affording them greater power and ability. But it also afforded them greater connection to universal constants that was so tight that they became personifications and this is why when they were killed these phenomenal happened at their death. But why other gods didn’t have the same effect, why Persephone’s death did nothing. Perhaps the idea of the Twelve Olympian’s was that there were twelve thrones to be used.
    It could also explain why Athena ascended where other gods did not, she was the goddess of Wisdom and that afforded her a deeper connection because the power she accumulated she also understood. That clarity also likely allowed her to survive and ascend to a higher plane of existence. But the thing is we have no idea if this was always the plan.

    Athena being the villain makes sense given she wanted Hope the power of pandora for herself. Atreus like his father Kratos probably kept her from such power by not wearing the mask as Odin/ Athena’s manipulations wanted. Also, I doubt Athena or Zeus were the only gods to transcend and eventually as we are suitably distracted by tales of Atreus giving Kratos a break we will return to Greece just to face these so called transcendent gods in similar forms we’ve seen of Zeus and Athena.

    That is a nice fanfic this theory would have held weight if not for a crucial flaw and that’s the timeline, we don’t have a definitive answer to timeline of things for example in the cutscene you showed at the end about odin talking about how he got the mask by accident after opening the rift when killing ymir , from the entire dialogue it seems ymir corpse is asgard (correct me if im wrong) so killing ymir and finding the rift and the first piece of the mask was very very long time ago most likely before the events of god of war 3 so so far I dont think this theory is as solid as you think
    Now I know that the dialogue of mimier says that he got the mask from the silent matron but that to me was just a misunderstanding of what he said more like taken out of context , to me what he said was he traveled to many dangerous places just to find it, as in he didn’t find the piece but actually was looking for it
    On a side note the mask used to belong to the Giants so to find the mask after killing ymir isn’t surprising
