    Slightly awkward topic but I thought it would be fun as the new year is coming up and people add some new goals to their lists, to talk about hobbies. As I mentioned, my social circle in LA is a lot smaller than at home so I'm on the hunt for some new challenges and if you've got any suggestions or stories of your own to share, I'd love to know!

    Hope you have a fantastic star to the new year!

    I love singing and dancing around. I dabble with the piano - used to learn in school, now it's just something i do.
    Zumba and Yoga are some hobbies. I had to learn that not everything needs to be an occupation ... sometimes you can do things because they bring you joy.

      SUCH a good point - Doing something just for joy is so wonderful. I haven't tried Zumba yet but it does look like fun... :)

    It's hard to make the time but as an adult I have tried drawing, painting, guitar, writing, meditating, yoga, dancing, and I would still love to try to incorporate more outdoor activities but I love hobbies and wish I had more time for them.

    I just took a week off work for the first time in years and was completely shocked when I realised I had no idea what to do with my time because I had no hobbies! So on my goal list this year is also to start a hobby. I am Portuguese but have never learnt to speak it so I am going to take lessons this year.

    • @JodieFox

      Elyse!! That's awesome news xx I am so glad you took some time off to find out a bit about yourself. Good luck with the Portuguese lessons!!

    You've become such an inspiration to me , and that's such an understatement. I came across your videos at such an important time. Thank you for all the videos you put up, always look forward to watching them!😊

      Monica! That's so nice!! What has been happening to make it an important time for you?

    I love this! I find it so humbling to try something new as an adult. I always have that frustration during the 'being bad' phase of learning something foreign, but something I'd love to try is a beginners dance class, I'm a hideous dancer but I think it'd be such great fun!

    • @JodieFox
      @JodieFox  7 лет назад

      Hahaha Hannah I bet you'd be nowhere near hideous when it comes to dance!! Maybe a little awkward at first but even then ... Who cares if you are having fun :)
      You're so right by the way... Humbling is the perfect way to describe the experience of learning something new as an adult. So important to keep having that experience of humbleness - I find it really puts me in a mind-frame of gratitude.

    Your sculpture class initiative made me laugh! Be glad your Mum and friends would even take them, it reminds me of how every time I travel the one thing my Mum always said is not to bring back any ornaments because it's just another thing to clean with dozens of crevices. I think it's a lot harder as an adult to find a hobby because your worried about your peers judging you for it where as a child can pick one up and it's nearly just put under the umbrella of Play time but if they retain it growing up there's a respect given to it.

    • @JodieFox
      @JodieFox  7 лет назад

      Oh my god - That is exactly why I would give them away... Such dust collectors hahahaha.
      I think you make a REALLY good point - It's so much more intimidating to make mistakes while learning as an adult because you have such an expectation of yourself to just be able to do things and do them well. Which of course... isn't a fair expectation at all!

    Happy New Year Jodie! 😊 I am so grateful to have found your channel this year, being a young woman entrepreneur is tough especially in a male dominated industry (i'm in construction). But I love the challenge of the job, that being said going at it alone is sometimes frustrating and lonely. Watching your videos really inspire me to be more positive and to be more kind to myself. So thank you, I consider you a virtual mentor (hope that's okay with you 😊).
    2016 was tough for me so I've been researching on things I can do to not burn-out this year. Haha. I totally agree on how when you're an adult (and a workaholic) having a hobby is challenging and actually I feel a little guilty too. A big part of me feels like I should focus on leading my team instead of having me-time, but like I said I totally crashed this year (which helped no one) so I'm really trying on pushing back the guilt and truly realizing that having time for myself is one of the best things I can do for me, for the people I work with and lead and for the people I love.
    i totally just sent you essay, sorry for that. Anyway, I'm looking into exercising more, Cassie from Blogilates here in youtube is a very tough and effective trainer. I'm also thinking of starting a blog on wordpress as an outlet. That's what I've got so far, again thank you and I love you. 😊❤️

      I love a good essay Armin - Thanks for taking the time to write it :) And I am very flattered to be your virtual mentor - I am just happy that the videos are doing something positive for you xx
      I'm so sorry to hear you crashed this year. You probably will crash again at some point - I don't think it's a lesson you learn once, it's such an ebb and flow, particularly when you love what you do. But I am really glad to hear that you are looking for ways to proactively avoid it. I just read a great HBR essay from one of their books called 10 essays on managing yourself. It's such a good book to read when travelling because it's so easy to dip in and out of. Anyway, the essay talks about managing your energy rather than time and in implementing it this year I am noticing such a difference. I'll pull out the book when I get home (I'm at the office right now) and look for a link online to share with you here - It might be a read you enjoy too! xx
      Lastly - Thank you for pointing me to Cassie! I'll check it out when I get home! xx

    I think my favorite thing to do is going to the beach and swimming/sunbathing, and then going out to eat. Other than that my hobbies are pretty pathetic if we're being honest. RUclips, Netflix.... occasionally reading articles and learning useful things from RUclips. Lol.

    I have a few different hobbies; embroidery which is all consuming and is a way to shut off from the world, reading which is another all consuming past time, motor bike riding with my partner because its something we have done together since we met and cooking because I like researching new recipes, visiting farmers markets and preparing yummy food!

    • @JodieFox
      @JodieFox  7 лет назад

      I definitely relate to cooking - Embroidery is really having a moment isn't it? It's so beautiful!! I love that you do that AND motor bike riding - So diverse and cool!

    Cycling is my hobby of 2017. Bought a track bike in December and have been going for rides around Brisbane ever since. Hopefully it will open up some doors to meet new people and make new friends. It's so much fun and challenging, I'd like to eventually commute to work and make it part of my daily routine.

    I was watching some older videos on Wendy's Lookbook and realized she did her "A Shoe Adventure" video using Shoes of Prey! I squealed when I saw that (well, I squealed in my head because it was late and my dogs were sleeping 😛)

    • @JodieFox
      @JodieFox  7 лет назад +1

      Oh my gosh I love that video LaTasha!! And you make me laugh... It's so funny the things we do for our pets. When I get up in the morning I always try and slide out of my bed so as not to disturb my cat who's often still asleep on the quilt!

    • @LaTashaImperiale
      @LaTashaImperiale 7 лет назад

      That's an unspoken rule for pet parents - never disturb our fur babies when they're sleeping, give them light kisses, and take tons of pics because they're so darn cute as they sleep peacefully!

    Several hobbies I found when I was in uni are graphic design, languange learning, and knitting! For me, knitting is really challenging at first, but once you get the know-how, it becomes easier and fun. I have around ten yarn balls waiting for the next knitting project
    Is it normal for people to lose interest in their hobby? Like, you found it interesting and fun at first but gradually don't feel that anymore?
    Currently I'm developing my exercise hobby. I never really thought about my motivation to start a hobby, but I think finding the right motivation could help.

    • @JodieFox
      @JodieFox  7 лет назад +1

      That's so cool - What is your next knitting project? A friend of mine got into it and makes the coolest stuff... She even ended up writing a knitting book!
      I think it's normal to ebb and flow with interest in things... We are constantly growing and evolving ourselves. Plus, the great thing about a hobby is that you can chop, change and choose to learn different things as you please. It's so nice to have something in your life that you do without any obligation attached... To do something purely because it's fun :)

      Aw thanks Olga! The one with the coin is a chain I was given when I was little, and a coin with a J on it that my friend Renee gave me from Palas Jewelry palasjewellery.com/ The other one is an infinity loop gold-fill bangle from Etsy that a beautiful friend in LA gave me - We wear the same one. I'll ask her where it was from!
