I added the Halo9 to a 2003 Honda Odyssey, cant recommend it enough. It grows on you as you figure out its feature set and it looks breathtaking once you have it all setup. It is so good that I find myself driving the old Odyssey with this Halo9 more than a brand new 4X4 Explorer limited.
I know this is an old video but I've been installing since 1988. Bought and owned my store and shop since 1995. Last car I owned with a true all out stereo was an 82 Cutlass Calais that I sold in 95. Vehicles owned past that got a remote start and whatever radio I had an abundance of supply. Fast forward to 2022 I drive a stone stock loaded 16 Sierra SLT. Factory remote start and factory radio. I will put a remote start in it before next winter but my own vehicle just isn't all that tempting to work on.
I’ve been waiting for somebody to do a proper install video of this unit and finally learn what to do with the extra space in the double din opening. Thanks.
love you guys. Now that i'm old I love seeing things done right and non-intuitive commentary. Would love to have seen you do the complete tuning + commentary on the tuning.
Just put one of these in a 17 TRD off road Toyota Tacoma. The “free” dash kit that came with it from C-field has plastic brackets. Not strong enough. Rattles and bounces too much because of the weight of the display. Picking up a Scosche kit with metal brackets to see if that fixes it.
Hey guys D & F I hope u had a good xmass and happy new year n a few days. Could you guys tell me what harners, adapters, wires etc do I need to install a halo9 ilx F309 on a 2018 Toyota Sequoia SR5? With back up camera No JBL speakers on it Want to keep the original usb and stering wheel control.
I got the unit as a xmass gift but to install it they want to charge me $850, so I was thinking if I can get the wiring harnesses on Amazon I might save some money.
You guys are the best wish you guys was in Chicago so I can get my radio done by you guys I love that you guys take your time and go over Every option before installing it 👍👍👍👍
I assume once its in. It in....as in you can't pop it out for security purposes without busting out a screwdriver etc. I remember old cheap soundstream and Fahrenheit units would have a quick release on their 9, 10" screens. Does it have any background graphics?
I wanna use this pac kit in my 2011 camaro with the alpine ilXF509 the newest 9inch halo. Have you ever heard of the Subthump factory amp replacement kit?
When installing this in a double din opening, I’m assuming you’re going to have an opening in the back for the pocket, or does it come with something to cover the blank space? Thanks!
appreciate the video. I remebered looking for reviews on this unit and there wasn't anything out at the time. I wish I saw this before I got my ddx917ws by kenwood. I would have gone with this over that one but I'll definitely be looking at the 309 down the road for my 4runner at some point.
i have this same radio. i have an annoyance with the auto dimmer. if i turn the dimmer to on at night it will get to a level of darkness that i like but if i set it to auto and adjust the level as dark as possible it is noticeably brighter which gets annoying to the point that i will go into setting and switch from auto to on which is then annoying the next day because when the sun is up i have to go back into settings and turn the dimmer off or to auto. have you noticed this? were you able to contact alpine to see if they would make a software update to further allow you to make the screen darker in auto dimmer mode?
Quite frankly, if I had to live with a larger screen sticking out of my dash and partially/completely blocking some of the switchgear or vents, I'd go with 1 of either 2 additional options over this Alpine. Either install a 10 inch tablet or go with the Chinese-made Joying 10.1 inch Android headunit. Both these options will result in having the screen protruding but the Joying is much cheaper, while most people already have a tablet of some sort, just need to sort out the dash mount. I'm sure the sound quality of the Alpine would be the best among the 3 options, but if you're looking into a screen larger than the usual 7 inches, you probably care more about how videos look on the display, rather than loss-less music playback. If you're a stickler for pure clean music, stick to the 7 inchers or single DINs. Nice clean install lines and looks. High fidelity music doesn't require a screen to perform well. For those who want the best of both worlds and can live with the daily compromises of inaccessible switchgear, then this Alpine may very well be your favorite deck of all time.
How far away does the eq on the phone work from the radio ? I’ve been looking at this radio but no review s on it. The type of set up I have that would be very useful for shows.
Just had mine installed last weekend and so disappointed in the screen contrast brightness especially with Apple CarPlay map apps (Apple maps and Google maps). Can’t see the white road lines in the map, it’s too white washed out. Even with tuning the brightness/dimmer in settings we weren’t able correct it. So it’s being returned next weekend. Maybe it’s a quality control issue with 2019 builds? Seems like others have the same issue recently.
I wish I could fit a screen like this in my e46 3 Series, I love the car and it drives great but all things audio were definitely low on BMW's list of priorities.
Hook up a f309 with idatalink and Toyota harness, everything works great even the small adjustable mph gauge but the large mph gauge that isn’t adjustable doesn’t register any speed.....any help?
Can you guys please make video on how to wire an aftermarket radio with a bypass switch on an alpine ixl 510. I need it to work with my tailgate camera.
I have the alpine ilx-f309 in my 2006 330xi bmw and when I want to access setup or settings it’s telling me to put it in parking brake but it’s a manual car i don’t know what to do with these problem
I have a 2015 Mitsubishi Challenger wagon and would like to put a halo 9 in but l would like to retain my top information strip that give miles per gallon or here in Australia ks and gives other information like how many ks per litre
@Five star car stereo: hello, maybe you guys can help me. I’m installing this radio right now on a 2011 Mustang using new metra dash kit. Everything was good and than randomly shut off and will not power up again. I checked the power and fuse and everything is good. I’ve tried the safety bracket refit several times, no luck. Any suggestions that i should check for?
Just out of curiosity I have a 1996 Chevy corsica will this fit my car. Main reason I didn't get a flip out screen was it blocked my a.c. vents. Might this solve my problem. I know most people don't have a car as old as mine...
I thought my pop out screen was a pain sometimes, you proved me wrong. That alpine screen is horrible. I mean the screen looks nice, but the way that"s held on there is not.
in shocked aftermarket manufacturers havent taken the mylink touch screen, modded it to put their display in it and build the HU just like the oem. without the side buttons for the bigger screen of course. then it not only fits better, but looks better than having a screen float and either block AC flow or the AC controls.
how is it possible that crutchfield says these model doesn't fit in the a mazda 2015 nor a 2014 honda pilot, yet i seen pics on social media with that exact model install on both. would you guy happen to install this in the exact vehicle 2015 mazda cx-9 ?
Five Star Car Stereo awesome thanks for the information. Also do you have any videos on the Type R speakers 6.5 for this year? And one more question what are speaker baffles for? If you have a video for that also you can just respond with the links. Thank you!
Question for you guys. Because the Alpine has such a large EQ/Time Alignment etc section built in, would you still use an external DSP like a bitone in conjunction with this? Or would the built in settings be sufficient for most installs? Looking to pair the Alpine i902 with some Hertz gear (high energy components, tweeters, and subwoofer using an HDP5 amp). Would you recommend a bitone as well? Thanks for any help, love your channel and all the knowledge you share with us all.
I love this radio, I just bought it for my 2008 Honda Civic and it’s just amazing. Feels like I’m in a newer model car. Thank you guys for your work
I know this is an old video but I've been installing since 1988. Bought and owned my store and shop since 1995. Last car I owned with a true all out stereo was an 82 Cutlass Calais that I sold in 95. Nice radio Dean. I'm glad you got the chance to work on your stuff. Thanks for sharing
Thank you
Thank you for yet another professional, careful, thoughtful and thoroughly enjoyable video...and on your own car...so well done..
Cool to see one installed. I’ve been trying to talk a buddy into putting one of these in his Chevy Colorado.
I’ve been waiting for somebody to do a proper install video of this unit and finally learn what to do with the extra space in the double din opening. Thanks.
Thank you
You guys put out great content, I enjoy catching up when I can. Keep it up!
BigDWiz Love you showing support for the car stereo guys! You both have great content!🙏🏻👍🏻👌🏻
Thank you so much
Good evening can this deck fit in my BMW E90?
FINALLY!!!...... Awesome Video, Thank You. Congrats Dean on getting some Beats in your Ride.
Working up to it for sure
Nice ride Dean what kind of 🔊 speakers are you running in it and what kind of amp? Thanks 🙏🏼👍🏼✌🏼
love you guys. Now that i'm old I love seeing things done right and non-intuitive commentary. Would love to have seen you do the complete tuning + commentary on the tuning.

Yes it is a bit heavy
Adam, I was considering this for my 2019 TRD Tundra, Did the Scosche kit with metal brackets fix your issue?
I found your video extremely useful, especially where you explain what the wires are for.
Hey guys D & F I hope u had a good xmass and happy new year n a few days.
Could you guys tell me what harners, adapters, wires etc do I need to install a halo9 ilx F309 on a 2018 Toyota Sequoia SR5?
With back up camera
No JBL speakers on it
Want to keep the original usb and stering wheel control.
I got the unit as a xmass gift but to install it they want to charge me $850, so I was thinking if I can get the wiring harnesses on Amazon I might save some money.
Luckly in Florida you only need access to temp control twice a year.
Looks like a nice head unit. Built like an iPad.
These guys are excellent installers!
Thank you
FINALLY we see your car and a stereo install!
You guys are the best wish you guys was in Chicago so I can get my radio done by you guys I love that you guys take your time and go over Every option before installing it 👍👍👍👍
Nice video guys. Glad to see the Camaro finally got some love.
Me too
It’s the hand gesture’s for me 👌 👍 🙌🏾. Perfect video answered all the ?s I had about this stereo.
100% biggest PITA to install 100% coolest deck out!!
I really like this radio, Alpine did some good work on this one for sure. I think you are going to like having this in your car Dean.
Thanks Tim
That great that's what I been waiting on because I am considering on getting the halo 9. Great review guys!
Glad we could help, enjoy
Killer radio!great work as always!
Awesome headunit
Thanks for the video love watching you guys
Great stuff
Thank you
I bet Fernando can't wait to get his car in next .
Install this and many others if you want to block your ac vents. Gotta love the way the cars and these setups are these days
I love Alpine, my first stereo and woofer was a 10" Type R... At that time it was only Alpine (and I liked polk too)
Good choice I always have Alpine for my head unit.
You cleaned your car before the install! Nice job Dean lol
Of course I did. I washed it the night before and then it rained.
As much as y'all like to work with the repetitive same oh same oh pioneer I'm glade you chose to put a alpine in your car
For sure
I assume once its in. It in....as in you can't pop it out for security purposes without busting out a screwdriver etc. I remember old cheap soundstream and Fahrenheit units would have a quick release on their 9, 10" screens. Does it have any background graphics?

When installing this in a double din opening, I’m assuming you’re going to have an opening in the back for the pocket, or does it come with something to cover the blank space? Thanks!
Awesome unit , Congratulations you deserve it.
Thank you
Once again a great vid, thanks guys. I wish you where out here in Cali.
this radio is absolutely awsume!
Love that Alpine tablet hu, cool to see your own vehicle install
appreciate the video. I remebered looking for reviews on this unit and there wasn't anything out at the time. I wish I saw this before I got my ddx917ws by kenwood. I would have gone with this over that one but I'll definitely be looking at the 309 down the road for my 4runner at some point.

Can we run threw using a router next? Plung regular & table?
"YOU might be asking, what car can go in my car?" Lay off the sauce pal 😂😂
Hey guys, can we added a second monitor for passengers in 2nd & 3er rod seats? Mirroring??
No there is no output to mirror the radio display.

Is the halo9 work with idata link unit. As well as the idatalink CAM1 dash kit ?
I’m getting this installed in my wrangler today
Dean thank you for the video .My opinion I think ,I might hold out for the new Kenwood radio.Dean love your Camaro .
Can you give an update to know how you like it so far? Are you using apple maps, any issues with it?
How far away does the eq on the phone work from the radio ? I’ve been looking at this radio but no review s on it. The type of set up I have that would be very useful for shows.
The EQ for iPhone need to be plugged in to usb. Android will do Bluetooth, the usually work about 8-10 feet
does it have the Bass and treble adjuster? + or - ?
Just had mine installed last weekend and so disappointed in the screen contrast brightness especially with Apple CarPlay map apps (Apple maps and Google maps). Any way of locking screen when on Spotify or does it stay on
Those staggered RCAs are sweet!
Nice Video. Finally we got it😊 Nice rims😎
Thank you
I like it but it's not for me. I would rather have a flush screen compared to a floating one.
Yo I like that shirt Fernando's wearing where can I get one of those oh yeah and then really really cool radio looks sweet
Looks laggy and a bit out of place. i dont think it makes a clean install. and for a $900 MSRP. not worth it.
I think they are all laggy
And not having at least a 720p screen for that price, it's just a huge pixelated screen
How do folks provide anti-theft functionality for these floating screens? Are they easy targets?
That was my thought right away
Can you play music through DAB radio or BT music when using google maps and navigating through android auto?
How did the Halo 9 hold up in the car? Still have it in there?
What’s the part you need to be able to play video off your phone on the alphine iPhone 8+
I want to put this unit in a 2015 Nissan Murano, do you know if this unit supports all around view?
My setup, and edit buttons are greyed out/ not touchable.. any idea?
You guys have a awesome show. Is it possible to put the model numbers of the product you use in the videos in the description?
We are working on it, but yes we really want to.
Congrats! I'm sure you were more than ready for it.
Thank you
Did you guys use the GPS cable? What is that for if this radio don’t have navigation. Think it’s for alpine updates ect...???
It is just to help the phone. When plugged in the phone will not have to it’s built in antenna.
Ok once I installed the GPS antenna my clock appeared instead of saying Updating.... thanks for the video. My install went very well.
I wish I could fit a screen like this in my e46 3 Series, I love the car and it drives great but all things audio were definitely low on BMW's list of priorities.
great video guys, question tho - I hear the screen res is low and pretty crappy - thoughts????
Hook up a f309 with idatalink and Toyota harness, everything works great even the small adjustable mph gauge but the large mph gauge that isn’t adjustable doesn’t register any speed.....any help?
you did not connect the HDMI. Any idea how video looks on the display? while in park of course.
We will show the video from hdmi in the review in a week
Can you guys please make video on how to wire an aftermarket radio with a bypass switch on an alpine ixl 510. I need it to work with my tailgate camera.
About time! So happy for you! One bit of advice: DONT use MX; it WILL blow out your speakers. Ask me how I know. 😭
Oh, I know what you mean
Honestly the ding from 3:47 - 5:11 was really off putting. REMOVE THE DOOR CHIMES ALWAYS! My personal preference. =D
Hi there. Dou you think I can connect to mazda 3 2015. I have only base model and I would lime to get android auto.
I have the alpine ilx-f309 in my 2006 330xi bmw and when I want to access setup or settings it’s telling me to put it in parking brake but it’s a manual car i don’t know what to do with these problem
Looking forward to the upcoming morel and amplifier install 😀 Enjoy your new Head Unit Sir 😎
Me to!!!
I have a 2015 Mitsubishi Challenger wagon and would like to put a halo 9 in but l would like to retain my top information strip that give miles per gallon or here in Australia ks and gives other information like how many ks per litre
Great video in love you guys get the point. Quick
Fernando is Pedro from Napoleon Dynamite, and that's awesome!!!! Great Video!
@Five star car stereo: hello, maybe you guys can help me. I’m installing this radio right now on a 2011 Mustang using new metra dash kit. Did you ever fix the issue? If so, how? What was the cause? I am having the same issue. No power at all. Halo9
Which brand do u prefer personally for head unit...
Do you have to bypass the factory amp? I have a 2014 grand Cherokee. Will the halo still power all of my speakers???
Just out of curiosity I have a 1996 Chevy corsica will this fit my car. Main reason I didn't get a flip out screen was it blocked my a.c. vents. Might this solve my problem. I know most people don't have a car as old as mine...
The problem would be the dash kit. This is designed to be screwed in, it does not come with a mounting cage. So you would need a kit it can screw into
I just installed a 9” halo in a 2010 Cameroon
Can you tell me what parts I’ll need to order to retain the Jeep jk steering controls such as voice command ect.
could this unit replace or act as an DSP? if i were to buy and install this i could skip the step of buying an crossover and DSP?
Does it detach readily so it won't be, stolen?????
did you guys do a video on bridging 4 channel amps and connecting multiple amps(mono to 2,3,4 channel).thanx in advance.
I thought my pop out screen was a pain sometimes, you proved me wrong. That alpine screen is horrible. I mean the screen looks nice, but the way that"s held on there is not.
I love alpine but it looks like it blocks the vents
Not a fan of that radio or any of the floating screens. Looks weird and out of place. Cleaning around it looks like itll suck too.
in shocked aftermarket manufacturers havent taken the mylink touch screen, modded it to put their display in it and build the HU just like the oem. without the side buttons for the bigger screen of course. then it not only fits better, but looks better than having a screen float and either block AC flow or the AC controls.
Have you seen the other Alpine Restyle radios? It sounds like what you are talking about
Is there a amplifier add on harness for a 2016 Hyundai Elantra GT? I don't want to cut the factory harness
Not that we have a listing for.
how is it possible that crutchfield says these model doesn't fit in the a mazda 2015 nor a 2014 honda pilot, yet i seen pics on social media with that exact model install on both. would you guy happen to install this in the exact vehicle 2015 mazda cx-9 ?
Can you use pinch zoom in google maps or waze?
Can this head unit be connected to a CD changer, such as the Alpine CHA-S634?
Nope, no input for that anymore.
Great video! Can you guys do a video on the difference between the AVIC-8200NEX and the AVIC-7200NEX?
The only difference is the screen. The 8200 has the capacitive passive touch and is totally worth the extra money
Five Star Car Stereo awesome thanks for the information. Also do you have any videos on the Type R speakers 6.5 for this year? And one more question what are speaker baffles for? If you have a video for that also you can just respond with the links. Thank you!
You guys have the best videos. Would this fit my 06 gmc sierra with bose? I think it would be a cool radio
Is there anyway to get 2 usb's to work with it. I hate unplug my SD stick and phone usb to use Android Auto
Dean thank you for the video. What made u pick alpine and not kenwood or pioneer?I hope I answer bud.ty
