I kid you not, comparing my 2013 Prius to the Tesla Model 3 is my exact introduction when telling my Lyft passengers about my Alpine Halo 9! It has made all the difference for me while actively Lyft driving and whenever I am off work.
Hey, thanks for disclosing they sent it, and you later bought it... but also important is if they reviewed this video before posting, or required you to add any content or talking points.
So you liked it, you really really did like it.😉 On a more serious note, it is a good thing to see it as a single din. Though that screen is yuge, probably will cause issues with some customers.
Living in the Southeast where it gets horrifically hot, I can't have the vents getting covered. But this just might fit in without that happening. I'll have to take some measurements. Great review of what looks like a great product!
Seriously, though - it's adjustable. Folks aren't picking up on that for some reason. And it's not like the air just stops or anything. It hasn't been an issue at all for me with those vents. (Way worse is if I use a phone car mount on an air vent.)
I've had this same conversation with Car dealers explaining about the variables in why the headunit with Android auto/car play may not be the issue. I've seen with my Honda that has Android auto Pixel devices worked great, Samsung note 8 had occasionally had connection issues. So software/hardware plays a big part.
Just installed one of these today - with iPhone on Apple Car Play I find the interface for Apple Maps and Google Maps to be extremely washed out in the day time. It's almost impossible to see the light grey roads against the white background? How was your experience with an iPhone and any tips to improve it?
Hey! Thats the stereo i installed in my car! Its good, but damn theres NO illumination wire so the stereo will NOT dim. Also you cannot install aftermarket front and rear cameras because it uses a switcher, and you NEED alpines cameras. Those are not cheap. Other than that, this is one fine stereo
Doctor George audio quality with stock speakers ... well it was louder but it sucked, they real difference is when you install this with aftermarket speakers, sounds amazing... it needs some work to calibrate this unit but once you do sounds amazeballs, the highs get higher the mids sounds louder and the bass sounds deeper. But like i said, it will take a while to calibrate due to the ton of sounds settings.
Sony website says it's going to be a resistive touchscreen at the same 800x480 resolution as this Alpine, would rather the Alpine for capacitive screen
Thanks, Just bought this. Should I buy the bypass module as well? Are there things the receiver won’t do when in motion without it? Does it even matter with a manual transmission car?
Thanks for the review. I just bought a new Tundra and it has the Toyota Entune system... I’m looking at a CarPlay replacement and not sure which one to go with. Curious, does this Alpine unit get firmware updates over the phone’s data connection? Alpine have an app to push these updates? Thanks in advance
Still why is there no 720p or higher? Seen some high ress android units out there from Dasaita. pioneer and alpine etc need to step upp resolution gameplay
From another video, I believe it’s 6 x 9.25 inches, not sure about depth. I’d love a mock-up to try out. Note the height, tilt adjustments are specific along fixed screw holes. In his Honda he wouldn’t be able to nudge slightly lower to clear more for the vents as the next setting would obscure buttons below. Everything would be a compromise.
Too funny. I do have the Model 3 and looking for a stereo upgrade for a Mercedes Sprinter. Its very tough to find anything that can compare....obviously. Thanks !
@@Moderndad you are right, but for someone as cheap as myself, maybe a good stereo and a good tablet could do something similar for a fraction of this price.
You drive a standard transmission? #Respect I drive an Civic Si and its the year right before Android Auto was added to stock, super pissed about it. Want something like this but don't want to lose all the stock functions. Steering wheel controls and such
I totally forgot to mention that! (I really should start putting those in the description, eh?) That's from Sleeping Giants on Cotton Bureau. cottonbureau.com/products/the-logo-shirt
CarPlay absolutely is usable, but Android Auto has way more options. (Too many, sometimes, but that's a different thing altogether.) I think it looks better, too.
Running USB is pretty simple. That's what we did in my '05 Civic. (Twice, actually - the Pioneer I used to use requires separate USBs for Android Auto and CarPlay, if you can believe it.)
Bezels are wayyyy too big for having to put this in the center of your console with all the air vents, climate controls, and everything else you are trying to fit in that limited space.

Thanks for showing off WUWF 88.1 my Dad Pat Crawford is the Station Manager. Public radio for the win!
Your dad is awesome! Been listening to him my whole life! (Pretty sure he knows my dad, too.)

Nope. It's all me. ... hell, I left out some things I wish I'd mentioned.
So you liked it, you really really did like it.😉

Good to see you back with another video, great video!
Thanks!
In awe with the size of this lad
Thanks! I've been working out.
Never change Phil!
I like how at 2:55 he has to correct steering due to drifting left while using it even on the demo video.

It's maddening. I think the cables still have a LOT to do with it. Took me forever to find one.

It would be 1 week tops before this would be stolen and I'd have a smashed window. Does look good though.

Hey buddy. Just watched your review for alpine halo9.. Does my huawei phone work with android auto?
id love to see a comparison between this and the upcoming sony xav8000
I heard that sony radio is really nice it will be out in December I think

I've got a manual and it all works just fine. Haven't messed with bypass any.
I’ve heard the colors can be washed out when looking at maps. And it’s hard to see streets and names. Is this true?
A $1000 stereo in my $1000 car (^_^). Good video. Thanks Phil.
You just doubled it's worth! :p

Flash drive, apparently ...
Did this support a 3.5mm steering wheel control controller?
Just need to know if it supports all around view camera. My car already has 360 view, but once I upgrade I don't want to lose that feature.
Still why is there no 720p or higher? Seen some high ress android units out there from Dasaita.
pioneer and alpine etc need to step upp resolution gameplay
Steffen Kenwood has 720p radios now
Is it compatible with some of the wireless backup cameras? Which ones?
My nissan titan has 360 degree cameras and a 7 inche screen that I want replace. Will this head unit work multiple cameras already built in?
This is what I need in my beat up Toyota!
Any experience with just mounting a tablet? Decent android tablets cost quite a bit less. I'd be interested in seeing a comparison versus these two.
No. But I also don't want a tablet. I want a proper head unit.
Forgot to mention the fact you can rewind the song to the beginning on fm and satillite
could you tell me the height and length of the screen, not just the diagonal?

Waze on AA has been laggy and not accurate as of a few weeks ago, but GM works fine. You notice anything?
Will it fit in a lancer 2016
Wowie ur back
I am!

This is great but truly expensive!
Nice review as always man, video liked as usual
I dunno - $900 can go pretty quick when you're talking about car stereos.
@@Moderndad you are right, but for someone as cheap as myself, maybe a good stereo and a good tablet could do something similar for a fraction of this price.

I don't have steering wheel controls - but I think they can do harnesses for those?
Yes I think they do, but I hear they can be kinda janky. I need to email Crutchfield about it. Or Maybe Alpine
1 question do people need entrnet .or pay to have wifi for all new car strio. How this works.. this not old teyp or cd thanks
no
Phil, dig the shirt man! Where did you find that at?
I totally forgot to mention that! (I really should start putting those in the description, eh?) That's from Sleeping Giants on Cotton Bureau. cottonbureau.com/products/the-logo-shirt
I love ❤️ the Civic. I love my 95 civic. I hate they changed the body style for the late 2000

Nice video Phil. Do you know if it supports wireless Android Auto and/or wireless Car Play?
Negative on wireless. (I tend to not mention things that products don't have, but that's one I should have pinged on.)
One question why didnt they put in built in navigation
thought would be why waste development time with it when 90% will be using their favorite nav app through the phone anyway.
The halo 9 is worth more than the car...LMAO
Do you prefer apple car play or Android auto ?
CarPlay absolutely is usable, but Android Auto has way more options. (Too many, sometimes, but that's a different thing altogether.) I think it looks better, too.
Eh, wish it didnt have thick borders around the screen and I noticed quite a bit of lag while you controlling it.
It doesn’t support wireless android auto?
Negative. I wish it did, but that's not really a deal-breaker for me. I've been wired for years.
900 and the only thing worth mentioning in the 9 inch screen .... pioneer for the win !!
What if my car doesn't have USB? My car is 07 Tahoe
Running USB is pretty simple. That's what we did in my '05 Civic. (Twice, actually - the Pioneer I used to use requires separate USBs for Android Auto and CarPlay, if you can believe it.)
There is a USB cable included. No problem at all.
Bezels are wayyyy too big for having to put this in the center of your console with all the air vents, climate controls, and everything else you are trying to fit in that limited space.
Gorgeous unit and a magnet for having the local savages destroy your car while trying to grab it.
Hasn't happened so far. ...
How to turn your car to a magnet for thieves
480 p resolution 😭😭
Still is 1k
900 dollars and no wireless AA?
Correct. Too bad, but the timing just didn't hit right, I guess. I don't see that as a deal-breaker though.
"Work with your installer" So I need to work with myself?🤔😝
More power to ya!
Holy shit that's overpriced
Ew this guy listens to Metallica
Yeah. I'm old. ... And also have good taste.
