Just fired my cardiologist yesterday. She came in yelling about my LDL and I could drop dead at any moment. Weight is down, glucose is down, A1C is almost normal, HDL is up, BP is down. 40 to 50 lbs left to lose. I can ruck with a 30 lb weight in my backpack for hours.

My ldl dropped when I went on keto. My cardiologist says it's killing me. That I should go on the heart association diet. So I experimented went on the heart association diet for 3 months my LDL rose 12% and my A1C rose 10%.
He looked me dead in the eye and said the higher numbers are no issue. I laughed and said I'm going back on keto. 3 months later I'm starting to feel healthier.

Same as many commentators, I'm mid-sixties, once keto, now low-carb lifelong runner/health nut. My CAC score is 5.95 but my doctor wants me on statins because my LDL is moderately high. He said, "Don't blame me when you're in the ER with a heart attack."
My point of view is you can't determine overall health with one data point. That's like saying that I weigh 180 lbs so I must be healthy. There's too many variables too rely on just one number.

For MDs to talk to patients in such a derogatory way, such as "Don't blame me when you have a heart attack" is a terrible thing to do to a patient and counterproductive in the healing processes. It is almost like they want you to keel over to prove their point.
This is happening more and more, as in trying to tell us how we have this and that to give people pills and more pills to make the other pills work, instead of giving us a pat on the back for losing weight, getting our numbers more in line, and so forth on the diet that works for us.

Feel great, doing 100 pushups and squats a day, walk 3m 3 times a week, writing articles, preparing a guitar concert, and my two doctors still yell at me. The story about the lady who left her doctor, it happened with me too !!! It is very disappointing !
I was on keto and intermittent fasting for about 6 months at that time, I felt and looked better then ever before, lost 10 kilograms very easily, my skin was better, looking much younger... Then I went to my doctor to have some good advise about my bloodwork (I hoped), just to be sure if I was eating healthy or not, if I did not have any shortage of minerals etc... but her advise was a real disaster. The only thing she pointed out was that my LDL was to high, and all the rest was good. What rest ? That's it ???And she also said without hesitation that my high LDL was due to eating to much meat !!! Really ??? What an explanation, what a conclusion. I said I was eating keto, she rolled her eyes and became unfriendly, trying to convince me I was not on the right path.
By the way, I do not eat lots of meat at all, sometimes a bit of chicken or turkey, but more vegetables, nuts, seeds, and yes, 2 eggs a day.
Nowadays I am still on keto and IF, but I still have no clue about my minerals/electrolites and my health in general.
I never went back to her, and I still do not know where to go (I live in Belgium).

I have since completely stopped taking pills and 99% of my previous epilepsy symptoms have completely dissapeared. I now live a normal life thanks to my nutrition. I am of the camp that NEEDS keto, its not a matter of preference. So I am following this LDL data and debate very closely. Brilliant! If you have metabolic disease LDL matters. Taking a statin to bring the LDL down does not fix the underlying cause of the plaque buildup though ie inflammation. The inflammation and arterial damage continue. All the statin will do is increase the lifespan by a short period till the inflammation and metabolic disease cause you harm. Best would be to resolve the underlying metabolic disease at which point the LDL number is probably irrelevant.

When he'd pay his own physician, friend and colleague, Cardiologist he was told: "If you don't get this weight off, you'll end up being on my table as my patient for heart surgery" (may not be exact quote but close). Someone recommended the Carnivore diet and desperate, he tried it and he found himself satiated, and with increased energy and was losing weight consistently without is intensive workouts which likely often left him hungry! He's written a book and there even MD'S who've had Wright and chronic health issues who've turned to Carnivore as a lifestyle, one is Dr Ken Berry and they feel better and have lost and maintained their new weight.

I am all over this. I am a 57 year old female and the more I do to try and protect my health as I age the more problems I am developing, but I just keep on truckin'. Most recently I developed multiple PEs in one lung. The CTA showed calcifications in my coronary arteries and I think a valve. I've had gut problems over the years and since maybe 2019 I've tried various diets to control symptoms, the latest being Keto, and I am strict about it. My cholesterol has remained stablish - triglycerides 60s, hdl near 100, LDL between 120 - 160, no real change with Keto. I recently asked for my ApoB to be checked - 107 I think. They have suggested a statin which I have yet to pursue. I'm about to ask for a Lp(a) test, but then what's the answer if it's high, I already live a healthy lifestyle. Apparently insurance doesn't tend to cover that either. I've also had my DNA tested and interpreted showing a high risk for cardiovascular disease r/t endothelial inflammation. I'm not overweight (5'1" and 100lbs before I lost my appetite with the clots), I've never been overweight and ive always excercised. What's a girl to do, I dunno 🤷🏼‍♀️. Will listen to this podcast again and go through your videos. Sounds like I should start crestor.

that isn't what he said. It could have been phrased better, but he said that calcified plaque is a good indicator of the the whole messy ball of wax. It isn't necessary to _test_ for soft plaque separately. Yes it is possible to have soft plaque before it is calcified, but you are better off looking for metabolic dysfunction, insulin resistance and cutting the whole cascade off at the pass.

Last 30 days of no alcohol.
TONS OF red meat and animal fats. Lots of plain, full fat yogurt.
    5-6 eggs a day

Uric Acid 6.1(I was able to stop Allopurinol)
    No more sleep apnea.
    In January of 2023 I weighed 215lbs. Today I am 170lbs.
My mom and dad are as sick as can be. T2D, fatty liver, ampullary cancer, Afib, cardiomyopathy, pitting edema, tired all the time and more!... Yet they won't get on board with what I have discovered. I am their closest genetic match on this planet and this lifestyle change has transformed my life!! And yet they still revere and listen to their old school doctors. The worst factor in this scenario is my dad is a retired physician and mom was trained as a nurse.

What about people listening to their own body? Are we so blind to our own bodies that we have to believe what doctors say before we trust our own bodies? Sure corroberate your levels with your feelings and blood work, but don't ignore hw your body feels and functions on a low carb diet. It is a game changer. When I eat carbs to any significant degree I feel like you know what. My joints ache, my mind is not as clear, and I am more sluggish. Wearing a CGM, even though I don't have diabetes corroborates my subjective feelings with my elevated blood sugar readings when I eat carbs. Sleep is significanty affected by too much carbs and then is corellated with negative markers of health with poor sleep. Low carb, along with avoiding processed foods and seed oils, along with limiting as many Rx meds as possible could end the medical crisis of chronic disease in our country and the money spent on chronic disease. Uh oh, could that be the reason our public health officials, along with the AHA and ADA don't lead the way on this? Follow the money. It's not rocket science. Logic, coupled with sound science and subjective feelings of overall health and our intuition for believing what we know is right is the only path forward. Commercial interests collide with these paths on a regular basis, but unfortunately have the money to influence public health for the worse, moving forward.

One thing that would be helpful is for folks to print out studies and give them to their doctors. Just telling doctors this web channel said this or that doesn't work. Studies that are published and in the NIH database, not printed web pages. - Also get testing that a doctor may not prescribe such as CIMT, HS-CRP, ... Maybe someone can put out a list of studies everyone should provide (printed) to their doctors if they plan on going on a Keto Diet? - I am on a low carb myself, running at 30% carbs versus 60% last year. I believe that being in a Keto paradigm, LDL is not so important. But I am not so sure where on the "spectrum between high and low carbs" diet does LDL come into play. LDL is a factor in the high carb paradigm as is shown in multiple studies over decades. Noting that all carbs are not equal, such as slowly absorbed carbs in broccoli has less of an impact serum glucose spikes than frosted flakes. A 30% carb diet with whole foods carbs is not the same as 60% carbs of white bread, Fruit Loops and white rice. So, the spectrum question is a little more complex than just macro carbs. My two cents.

Unless you have an accident/emergency/broken bones etc I would stay well clear of doctors. Doctors are trained to prescribe "drugs", some with terrible side effects and most aren't trained to give good advice to stay/become healthy. Just because something was thought of as being true at one time in history does mean bad intentions. lack of vigorous research or flawed logic. Yes, changing general understanding of things believed to be true, but are not, takes time to shift to some new understanding. That is true in all forms of understanding not just medical/health. In time inertia builds and everyone gets smarter. Intelligent and educated people knew that the world wasn't flat and that the Sun revolved around the earth. I’ve been on keto, but it hadn’t raised my level this high previously (LDL 588). Triglycerides are good,HDL high. Thankfully a recent CAC score was zero.
I’m suspected to have Lupus based on recent labs. Does SLE cause cholesterol levels to spike and become medication resistant?

I've been enjoying the youtube channel of "Peter Rogers MD". He claims that LDL cancels the negative charge on red blood cells, and increases the viscosity of blood, causing hypertension and clots.

Not only was there no correlation between LDL and plaque in the LMHR group but also the MI heart study group with "normal LDL" showed no correlation either.

My LDL WAS 300 hundred. Clearly my HDL was high as well. MY triglycerides were low. I asked for a CT of the arteries zero plaque!
2 of my doctors were flipping out on me, that my LDL is high!

Dr Brewer…thanks so much for all you do. I’m bit confused here’s my Lipid test. Ive been on a carnivore diet for 2 months now. Ive lost 25lbs and ALL of my lipid blood markers went down. What’s up with that? Cholesterol 140 down from 230, triglycerides 50 down from 110, HDL stayed the same at 44, LDL dropped to 70 from 140, Cholesterol/HDL ratio 3 down from 5. Im having the reverse effects that all these doctors tell us. Ive been pretty much doing the Lions diet but with some broccoli. What’s up any guesses?

seems the best route is a keto diet and taking repatha at the same time.

I take a statin, but don't have any negative side effects. While the scientific community seems to not be in consensus on Keto and LDL contribution to heart disease, would there be any negative consequence to staying on the statin while eating Keto and covering both bases? I know LDL will increase, but the statin will keep it from getting to high, right?

Lp(a) or lipoprotein (a) is a type of B class, sticky, dense particle carrying just about the worst kind of cholesterol. Unfortunately it’s genetic and only 20-30% of people even make it- some unlucky enough to make it way higher than is safe. I am such a one. People should be tested for this because this is the one that gets people young and in good health. Or gets people who have low LDL, but all their LDL is lp(a). So they don’t even flag for risk when they are!
If you know you have it, you can monitor arteries and be proactive. But usually you have to demand a test… not many docs have it on protocol yet. Imo everyone should be tested regardless of LDL numbers because this is an independent risk factor.
This isn’t the egg yolk kind of cholesterol. This is the real bad guy. Get tested.

Dayspring is a great influencer. Engaging, charming and 95% healthily educational but the last 5% is where he somewhat subtly sneaks in the conventional medicine meds solution and pushes that ApoB is the absolute main devil. He recently apparently got an award from them for this work. And yes, he isnt a great looking advertisement for the lifestyle he lives

Two years ago l had heart bypass for triple vessel disease. Cardiologist put me on plethora of meds including statins l can’t take them so my dr freaked out when l wasn’t taking them, he tried to force the psk9 jab on me but l refused because l have several autoimmune diseases and putting an unknown antibody into the mix was not an option. I told him l would change my diet in six months l got my ldl down to 3 and cholesterol to 5. He said well done but not enough and tried to get me to take an mRNA jab to get ldl down, again l refused.
To humor him l said ok prescribe me the lowest dose statin and we’ll see how we go. I’ve been low carb all yea lost 11kgs feel great ldl now 2 and total cholesterol 3.5. Cardiologist impressed.

Well I was shocked as heck because my new doctor took a blood test, and I was dreading the results. Well my results were STELLAR! and my cholesterol was really HIGH - but it was 100% HDL - the good one. And NO LDL! I mean everything was stellar! like perfect levels of Vit. D/ you name it. I was pretty happy! Like my B12 apparently was through the roof! And I don't take B12! It's great when you have 'perfect scores' on your blood test. And frankly - this is the first time ever for me!
