- What's cracking, folks! I'm back with another INXS reaction from their 1987 album Kick (shout-out to Nikita, as well as Philip for sharing their larger catalog after I did the first reaction). That said, first things first---I'm pretty sure I mistakenly said Michael "Hutchinson" during the reaction, lol. Sorry, I do know it's "Hutchence" but I guess my brain opted for a more common surname in the moment. Mea culpa. Regardless, join me for a bold and powerful tune with some fiery vocals from Michael. Hey, folks! So as I mentioned in the description, I realized when processing this video that I said Michael "Hutchinson" during the intro, lol. Sorry, I did know it was Hutchence but apparently my brain is creatively mistaken sometimes. Apologies!
EVERYone calls him Hutchinson by mistake, heck, i still do !!
Haha, so this is an INXS rite of passage. Good to know, I don't feel as bad.
Kick is one of the finest Albums of the 80s . I put it in the same bracket as Big Country,s The Crossing or Erasures The Innocents .

I was wondering how far you could go without knowing any INXS songs. Even though I was an impressionable 14 year old in 1987/88 who loved the dirty glam/rock of GNR, Motley Crue, Poison, Skid Row etc, INXS were still cool. They straddled new wave and rock without watering down either component of their music.
This was absolutely one of my favorite songs in high school! When it came on, I stopped whatever I was doing and DANCED! ❤ RIP Michael Hutchence.

Fantastic song and band, so many great songs , not only the hits, but some lesser known gems.
So much bombastic goodness in one song. It's just fun. Love it.
Oh, it's amazing how this song brought back the dancefloor feeling! I had even forgotten about this song, but as soon as I heard it now I was thrown back to my disco life. 😅
I must have danced a lot to this one, but when I think of INXS I think of "Need You Tonight" and "Devil Inside". I sure remember dancing to those too. Highly sensual songs. 😉 The first one was such a pick-up tune! 😂 INXS were never one of my favourite bands, not even close, but they sure had a few great and exciting hits. 😎

My - what a fabulous track this is! New Sensation neatly sums up how i felt about this song and the band when i first heard this in 87. I was hooked.
That album! Oh my. Kick was one of those slbums without a weak song on it. Every track a potential single. And many of them were too in the UK!
I adore this track New Sensation. Its just a perfect slice of INXS at their best - with funk and brass elements all thrown in sounding absolutely vital and fresh - it completely grips you and doesn't let go. This is just the start and there is more to come. A classic album.
The previous album Listen Like Thieves is really great too and well worth tracking down. That is the album where i feel INXS really got into their groove so to speak. Kick was them finding perfection with all their influences working together seamlessly with great production.

How jangly can a guitar get? And I love Michael's vocal on this one. He could throw his voice around with such ease. And I like how the lyrics progress with each verse starting with a new word. "Live, baby, live" to "sleep, baby, sleep" and so on. It goes through all these snippets of life, good and bad, hate and love, and in the end two lovers are stronger together. Or really anybody and everybody who can find a shoulder to lean on and friends who all help see the others through. And I bet you more songs on this album than you realize, Matt. This is one of several hits!
There's a funny bit before the sax where he says "trumpet" ? Then the sax plays ! They have sax in a few tracks as one of the guitar players plays it and often switches in live shows between the two

This song was huge and the main riff full of energy , literally looking like energy in the original promo video!
It was a hit in its original release but later as a live version as a promo for the video releases of their Wembley Stadium (London) concert.
The live version has an incredible moment when that riff starts the WHOLE place is bouncing up and down in unison ... it looked like an amazing place to be !

Lol my comments not sending too for some damn reason lol. And Oh yeah, I hope one day when Matt reacts to most of their material in audio form, he can react to their Wembley concert on P. This needs to be seen, especially in full HD!

Agreed, and Matt, the Wembley concert film takes it's title from a line from this song: "Live, baby, live !" but plays on the two ways of pronouncing "live" as in living or "live" as in live music.
I knew that when you heard this simple, repetitive, but iconic guitar riff, you would remember this track lol.
This is one of their hits. I didn't really listen to this song much before, but recently it grew on me.
The next song on the list is "Devil Inside" and it's also a hit and you might recognize it too.
But after it there are two songs called "Need you tonight" and a smaller one called "Mediate". Usually at a concerts they played them together, as far as I know, because one smoothly transitions into the other, and in the music video they were also combined. Would be cool if you can combine them in one reaction video too :)
Ditto the two songs are continuous, with two separate promo videos that can be played together or separately
I will try to remember this after the next INXS reaction.

I remember being unimpressed by the album even though I really liked the hits from it. I'm interested to hear whether I still feel the same.
