Many young ones don’t realize that INXS (in excess) was the hottest band on the planet for at least half a decade starting in the late 80s. This band dominated the music charts and the airwaves.
they were up there with U2. If Michael hadn't died they probably would still be up there.
I have been waiting 25 years for Australia's next Michael Hutchence, but I have come to the realization that there will never be another Michael...
R.I.P.
Between the Wembley Stadium crowd and Michael Hutchence, it's so much heart-pumping excitement, and they just did their live stuff amazingly! Love this!
My favorite group of all time great songs great frontman great musicians their music is timeless
"Disappear" from the same concert is amazing. 100k people bouncing up and down all at the same time.
Plus it's one of their best songs and definitely worthy of a reaction.
The drummer is fire.
Jon Farris is also cute!
I have loved INXS for over 30 years ... they are part of the soundtrack of my life.
I saw this concert in a cinema more than a year ago and I was always envious of everyone who was at Wembley ...
Of my favorite concerts
INXS is my favourite 80s band. They were HUGE. .rivalling U2 back in the day. This song is from 1987, but the concert was in 1991. One of the secrets to their success was frontman Michael Hutchence, who was the absolute GOAT. Some serious magic. They were reputed to be the best live band of the decade, doing a bazillion gigs all over Oz before hitting in America.
Rock And Roll 80S style .It was great while it lasted RIP Michael
“Never tear us apart” official video. Perfection. Oh, and “suicide blonde” from this same concert is hot.
Never Tear Us Part video, amazing
The group was mostly in the 80s/early 90s.Other great songs by INXS, What You Need, Listen Like Thieves, This Time, Never Tear Us Apart. I was lucky enough to see them live one time at Madison Square Garden around '92 and they were amazing. Still have the coccert tshirt too.
Yesssss, omg so happy that you are reacting to INXS, RIP Michael. Please 4
react to Suicide Blonde, same concert.✌💜🎶
This entire concert is great. Not that I went to it, but I watched it on Amazon Prime. Michael Hutchence is one of my favorite frontman. Thanks for reacting to this video.
Oh, good to know, thanks!
Love them...Michael had such an amazing voice...still one of my favorites :)
And WAY……..sexy!
I first heard of INXS in 1985 from an Australian cousin and saw them live on TV when they played at the Australian Live Aid. I went out and bought Listen Like Thieves and loved it. Then they toured the album Kick and I saw them in London in 1987 with Sinead O'Connor as support. Michael Hutchence owned the crowd. He was phenomenal as a front man. And the band were superb. A wonderful pop/rock band with many gems in their catalogue
Don't Change
The Swing
Original Sin
One x One
Kiss The Dirt
Listen Like Thieves
Never Tear Us Apart
By My Side
Taste It
And many others
I saw INXS live when I was 16, was an amazing concert, just a band that sounds incredible live, loved it.
Led Zeppelin is the best band, but INXS is my favorite band. INXS started 1977, they were age 15-17ish and it took them a little while to get going. They are credited with this sound, which back in the day was called alternative. They did this dance/R&B/funk rock. I love the early stuff before most people knew about them. I was blessed to see them twice and I cherish those memories. They have a huge catalog.
"Is this a '90's sound?" It's an INXS sound. They were very unique I had been going since the late '70s.
Saw them in 1991. SOOOOOOO amazing! My favorite INXS song is "Elegantly Wasted". RIP Michael Hutchence. THANK YOU for the reaction!
I agree...that last record was so underrated. Loved I Am Just a Man from that too. So many good songs on their last album. Great Band, tight, great live! RIP beautiful Michael..
As others have already mentioned, the name is pronounced "in excess" as in "too much" and that they are. There is such a rabbit hole for you to explore with this band and it will all be fresh and new for you. I would not call this a 90s sound, but it WAS an INXS 90s sound. They had been around since the early 80s by this tour and their sound had morphed into this by the early 90s. Early INXS to me was a very unique combo of 80s new wave/synth and Australian culturaly influenced rock/punk/ska/new wave...basically a hodge podge of styles that somehow turned out to be 100% uniquely INXS. If you can't imagine in your mind what that may sound like, you will just need to check out some early INXS! It's hard to describe but when you hear it, you'll know. Having said that, through the mid 80s to early 90s, this band had a reputation for being one of the best live acts out there. Incredibly tight musicianship and Michael Hutchence is regarded as being one if the greatest frontmen in rock. He had an overwhelming stage presence and I don't think he ever hit a sour note in his life. Incredibe voice and talent, gone too soon. I think for your next Wembley ride you should do What You Need, Original Sin or Suicide Blonde. To get a taste of Baby INXS, and that Australian vibe, Spy of Love audio is great. For 80s synth saturated INXS, The One Thing is a fantastic song.
Well said!
Yes, the band formed in '77. My favourite is The one thing, Love is(what I say)
He's the closest thing the 90s had to Robert Plant, in terms of fantastic frontmen.
So happy! More live INXS please.
Inxs live makes you want to live before technology
This is why the mum’s and dads crap on about in my time ………
I love that I saw bands before iPhones
Nothing compares
They were always amazing live, they were true musicians in ever since of the word and Micheal Hutchence was a incredible frontman man, he was sexy and had charisma that last for days on in! His voice was always on point on tour without fail! He knew how to hold the audience in the palm of his hand! He’s truly missed! Thanks for showing INXS some love! You asked is this a 90’s sound, no it’s INXS sound! They didn’t sound like anyone else! How about Never Tear Us Apart, Mystify, Suicide Blonde, What You Need, Bitter Tears and Disappear and Devil Inside! All these song are at The Wembley concert 🎶 but you can listen to any live performance and it’s always great! They also had great performances on SNL and Arsenio Hall show that I would highly recommend, very high energy on Arsenio Hall show, thanks!
It still makes me so sad that Michael isn’t here still. My mom LOVED INXS, so I knew who this band was at a really young age 4/5 years old and I loved it then and I still love it 30 years later. ✌️💗😊
Great artists
Listen like Theives is another classic!!!
Every time I see this part of the concert, and the crowd just pulsating, it makes me misty how much their music affected people. I mean, 70k people all rocking out in sync like that? Crazy. And yes, we didn't have phones then, weren't concerned with trying to record it or take selfies...it was all pure joy and enjoyment in the moment. It's so different now, and I'm so glad I grew up in the 70s and 80s. We had actual fun :-)
Saw them in 1987 at Universal with a band called Steel Pulse. Devil Inside was the big hit for that album/tour.
I guess I'm the grumpy old guy, but I despise concerts now because people are blocking your view holding their stupid cell phones up. This video was back when you were at the show feeling the experience. Not worrying about if your recording is good enough to upload to RUclips. Thanks for the reaction video! I do like reactions and sharing music.
Mystify video is a combo video of studio and concert footage. Awesome song. Also The One thing is a fantastic song. They were an 80s/90s band. Later songs were Suicide Blonde and Elegantly Wasted. Bitter years and Disappear are also jewels.
INXS is quintessential 80s. This song came out in 1987, on their Kick album. Another good video to check out from INXS would be "What You Need" if you haven't already. And "Listen Like Thieves". There was a really good run of albums released between 87 - 91. Also, if you're looking for some of that giant crowd energy, look up "Angel of Harlem" by U2 (ZooTV Live from Sidney) . There are actually a lot of good choices from that concert - "Until the End of the World", "Bullet the Blue Sky", or "Lemon", or "Where the streets have no name" are all good from that show. "Where the streets have no name" is probably the best among those simply for crowd reaction. It's kind of like this song from INXS - it was an old familiar tune by this time, so the crowd is into it. "One", from the same group, live from Slane Castle is also very good. I wasn't at either of those shows, but I did see U2's ZooTV outside broadcast in Kansas City in October of 1992, and I've still not been to a better show. The stage set was insane. They had actual cars suspended above the stage, and used the headlights as spotlights. The lead singer, Bono, called President Bush - on the PA - during the KC show. Just insane. The stadium just vibrated.
They're the opposite of quintessential 80's, INXS were constantly pushing the envelope and looking for the 'next' sound.
I saw INXS live in concert and it was electric !
INXS hit the radio running , matured quite a bit in the few years they had before Michael passed.
Amazing band!
Check out Good Times by INXS (in excess) and Jimmy Barnes, the guy who sang Lazy with Joe Bonamassa. Killer tune. From the Lost Boys soundtrack.
This was made into a concert movie, "Live Baby Live". The whole concert is 👍
It's a great song (and it was a great gig, I was lucky enough that it was my first INXS gig!) and you'll love so much of this band's output!
Got to see them live with Guns 'n Roses and they blew GNR out of the water.
I saw that show when it came through town.
They played with GnR? How did I not know about that??? That seems like a very strange combo touring together, even though I really liked both bands.
INXS debuted in 1980 (and this song is from the 1987 album Kick), so I wouldn’t call them a 90s band. Although they were huge in the 90s too, all the way until Michael Hutchence’s untimely passing in 1997. I hear a distinct 80s new wave element in their music, but it’s also uniquely them: They have that awkward new wave angularity but weirdly also manage to put some serious grooves to it. At the time there was nothing else sounding like them. A breath of fresh air, for sure. And like so many other Australian bands, they had paid their dues on the local club circuit before getting anywhere, so they were always solid in concert. (Plus they had a frontman for the ages).
Love this. ..............Never Tear Us Apart! Another ‘jammin’ album. Good times livin in Hawaii at the time!
Yeah this song came out in 1987 -88 and it was huge back then.. Great reaction man keep them coming..👍🏼 Back then during this tour INXS was considered one of the best live bands in the world..
Omg how much do I miss this band INXS Michael Hutchinson was a great lead singer. The band comes from Australian and the singer who died due to a accidental death was amazing. RIP Michael Hutchinson
INXS are to Aussies as U2 is to the Irish. They are royalty for us.
I was at the gig. Got a ticket for £25. I only went, to see what all the fuss was about their singer. He was fantastic. What a voice & cool AF. And their drummer Jon Farriss: a tight groove-master. He blew me away....using a smaller type version of the drum-kit Danny Carey uses with Tool these days.
Such a great live band and this whole concert is awesome. "What You Need" from the same performance is really great and shows them jamming and Michael does a fantastic audience participation and is just oozing charisma. So glad you have discovered this great band.
25yrs ago there was another entertainer with the same enthusiasm such as Michael at the same arena. We all know who that is, don't we. Awesome Reaction, Brother, R.I.P. MICHAEL 😢🇦🇺🙏🏾✝️💖💯...
Michael was in great voice for this performance.
Kick tour 87'. Never tear us apart....oh the memories
Inxs were amazing and unique!
If you can get hold of any of their U.S. television performances, you can see this.
Arsenio Hall
David Letterman
AMA
Saturday Night Live
Young Man mine started in the 60s an went thru the 70s 80s 90san is still going with what I can find with real musicians
Devil Inside and Beautiful Girl are my favs by these dudes.
Chod, thanks for reacting to our Aussie guys! It's pronounced IN...EXCESS
Other bangers;
What you need
Just keep walking
The one thing
Don't change
The lead singer, the late Michael Hutchence and the keyboardist, Andrew Farris went to my husband's school!
"In Excess"
I was born in '81, so the 80s-90s were my formative years. To get into the sounds of that era, you can try Enigma 'Sadeness', the KLF 'Justified and Ancient', Edie Brickell and the New Bohemians 'What I Am', PM Dawn 'Looking Thru Patient Eyes', Spin Doctors 'You Let Your Heart Go Too Fast', Lucas 'Lucas With the Lid Off', Des'ree 'You Gotta Be'.
I still crank this in my car! He was the sexiest front man. Great music!
INXS has a great library of videos 1980 to 1997. Glad you are enjoying them. Nice vlog.
Love your reaction, you should listen to the first opening song to the Wembley concert Gun's in the sky. You
Won't be disappointed 👍👍
This was a time when musicians had real talent. This band had it, period! And I've seen them in concert three times! You had to be there to appreciate it but, they're so good that you can see them on television and feel it there too. Just a good band period and that translate whatever decade you're in!
Got to see them in Seattle back in the day. Think it was the Suicide Blonde tour. So much energy & charisma from the whole band. Give Listen Like Thieves & What You Need a listen sometime. And the band name is pronounced like “in excess”. Another artist to try Scritti Politti for another danceable vibe from the era. I’d suggest Perfect Way and/or Boom There She Was.
Love them! Don't Change is my favorite, but so many more great songs - keep going 🤗
This is a late eighties sound. I think of nineties as a combination of grunge, alternative rock and pop and continuation of metal sub genres
They were SOOOO ahead of their time - RIP Michael
IN X S
you know whats good at a concert to memorize it, using your MEMORY and enjoy the moment, dont sacrifice the now for later. screw the phones
regards the crowd - before mobile phones existed, alot of concerts were like that. People listened to the music, they didn't go to concerts just so they could film it.
I saw Inxs on their first UK tour in 1985, and I am in that crowd somewhere lol
One of the best bands of all time. 🤟
You're 100% spot on mate. Concerts are concerts anymore. The talent for starters isn't there anymore, nobody can sing like back in the day & a million phones are out to busy trying to record instead of actually concentrating & enjoying the performance
The lead singer had some definite Jim Morrison vibes and moves!
You’re right hearing music live is the real experience 😎🤙
Great band, and I think Michele Hutchence was a born front-man. I like Kick, but Shabooh Shoobah, The Swing, and Listen Like Thieves are their best albums. My band played a good six or seven songs by them. LOTS of backbeat excellence in their early stuff. Check it out.
"Suicide Blonde" Live..same Concert. 77,000 people's enthusiasm was palpable!
about 2 songs from now in the concert, according to Michael...the ecstasy kicked in....you can see it, best live concert ever :)
Burn For You is an epic song they recorded in the 80s. You love to see your reaction to that one…
I've seen live many times in Sydney, great band.
In - excess ! Great Australian band !
INXS became so big in the US with their song 'Need You Tonight' partly because it got picked up and played by black R&B stations, who didn't know they were white. It was just a jamming tune, so they played it.
In....excess.......is how it is pronounced, a clever way to name a band. INXS,
and yes try the song Don’t Change or Never tear us apart or Mystify, great tunes . Cheers
Keep exploring INXS
The first Australian band to sell-out Wembley
Since you’re doing more live stuff lately....could you PLEASE do live Sorrow Pink Floyd Pulse? Know you’ve done the studio, but the live is a whole different level.
Esa si era música INX!!! pocos son los artistas qué cantan ahora usan el AUTO TUNE
Guns in the Sky…man you know Kick was gonna be an experience from the first beat.
INXS (pronounced "in excess")
Try the Canadian band The Tea Party, Save Me.
Live -yippee 🔥❤️🎶❤️
In honor of your love of live performances, I highly recommend watching 'Enter Sandman' by Metallica at their 1991 concert in Moscow. Over 1.6 MILLION people in attendance.
AND THEY NAILED IT!
Watch their videos....amazing
In excess is how it is pronounced ☮️❤️🙏😎
Great choice - a band that is not deep, but made some great songs.
Hey I know you have tons of request but I would like to know if you are or can please do some of the great. The GRASS Roots)(Temptation eyes) (midnight confession) (Live for today)(heaven knows) (Bella Linda) just a few great ones and they have so many more 😎👍🇺🇸
It’s pronounced “ in excess”
Only in Straya, it seems.
not really that Cess sounds is not right, IN X S
@@romanfedrich6967 No it's pronounced In Excess everywhere
@@nycot107 Capitalised? Is it part of the Microsoft Office suite? Don't get It? Then it shouldn't surprise you my favourite INXSpots song is I'm Making Believe.
great review, INXS is pronounced IN EXCESS , cheers mate
I agree about liking to hear the live versions, as well. However...the studio versions are as the artists intended, so will always rank higher in my opinion. They could only re-create so much on stage, and some of the details (or "clever bits", as Freddie Mercury called them) are lost when played live. It might be great live, but stripped down a bit.
I totally agree with that... except when it comes to INXS. :)
In. X. S
"In excess"!
This concert was when they were at their peak in the late 80's .Afterwards their albums weren't so great and 90's grunge took over.
I watch this video and see how vital a front man Michael Hutchins was and what a loss his death was. Like Bon Scott, gone too soon... too young.
At the time of this concert singer Michael hutchence was going out with pop superstar Kylie minogue
No, it was Supermodel Helena Christensen
@@mystify1452 not when this concert was on July 1991 still with Kylie minogue
Michael and Helena had been a couple since February 91…till 95
Hi Wilburn thanks for the video. The pronunciation is , "in excess" - like you do something in excess i.e. party, work, write and.play music etc. INXS, hope that helps.
My muse
