Bought this as the Canon adapter wasn't available anywhere here in india. I am quite happy with its performance. The AF is pretty fast and the control ring is quite handy. The only thing I don't like is a little bit of play it has with the mounted lens. It doesn't give you the confidence like the Canon adapter does. But otherwise a great alternative.
Thanks mate... ordered one now cost me £90 rather than the £220 for the Canon brand which i bought early this year ....need it for my second camera which is for my Canon RP so didn't want to spend the same money on a second one.... will let you know how it works compare to the original one...cheers
Nice video.. is there any chance you still have the firmware update file to share with me, as it isn't available anymore in thier website.. thanks in advance mate.
Thank you for the review but what does "pretty much identical" really mean? There are a lot of assumptions in this video + you are recommending this adapter over the Canon one, only based on the lower price. I just purchased an R6 and unfortunately neither the basic nor the control ring adapter from Canon are currently available on Amazon Germany, so I went for the Commlite or Ommlite in order to being able to use EF and EFS-glass. I do own a Viltrox speed-booster for the M50 and am very happy with it, apart from the battery drainage feature, however comments on Amazon about the kind of loose fit and the lack of weather sealing make me very hesitant to get this one for the R6. If I pay some 2700 Euros for a camera, I don't want to run the risk of a lower quality adapter to save 100 Euros on the adapter and either be aggravated all the time about a wiggling adapter or run the risk of having humidity or rain creep into my camera. I also have to say, that I would be rather hesitant to buy directly from Viltrox and would stick with Amazon, as I do not know their return policy and with Amazon I can return an item no questions asked. As there are a few important negative points out there about this adapter in combination with the R6 (and probably the R5), I have to decided to live with the Commlite one for the time being until the Canon one with the control ring becomes available again and spending these 100 Euros more will at least ensure me that the Canon one has been manufactured exactly to the specs required.
It sounds good for half the price, but how about the weather seal ? Also any movement between lens, adapter and camera compared to the Canon adapter ? For testing adapters, it's a bit more than just the focusing, especially using not so cheap L lenses and camera bodies
Mine has a little bit of play so putting a heavy lens on it makes me a little nervous. It also isn’t weather sealed so if you’re only shooting indoors in a studio I would say get it, if you’re going to be doing events or need something more rugged the oem version would be the way to go.
Can you confirm, does the camera still accept commands from the ring if its set to “Release Shutter without Lens”? I was thinking about getting one of these, and then getting further adapters to attach older vintage lenses, and wanted to know if the Camera would let me change setting with this ring, even though its set that way.
@@RageStudios you wouldn’t need one, just set that “release shutter without lens” settings, attach the ring only and and see if the camera responds to the ring when only the ring is attached.
Man can you have the viltrox adapter test on 50mm f1.8 aperture to see if canon and viltrox which one is better as shallower depth can show us the minute focusing capabilities as i brought the viltrox but on f1.8 it is very hard to have sharp focus on subject
I have this adapter and it works great on my RP however I also have the R6 and it doesnt work at all on that camera. The camera will not power on with the adapter attached unless I first pull the battery out and put it back in and even then it will not focus and the shutter will not fire.Thankfully I have the Canon adapter as well but was hoping this one would work as it has the control ring.

Dont listen to this video. Must be getting paid to sell these. I bought one of these adapters for my R6. It is ok, it works (sometimes), with the 70-200 f2.8 there is a lot of wiggle between lens and adapter and the autofocus stops working. The adapter also drains the battery, charge the battery to full, leave the adapter on in your bag, 2 days later camera battery is dead. I bought the Canon adapter, found one on ebay at an inflated price, annoying but was worth buying, the build quality is night and day with the canon far superior. The battery problem and the wobbly 70-200 have both gone away with the canon adapter. If you want something cheap and budget you can get away with using the viltrox one, but if you are a professional and need your camera to be reliable, hunt down a canon one!
I wish I was getting paid! Where did you buy your viltrox adapter? I heard some bad things from people who but of eBay. Need to buy it the official viltrox website, there's a link in the description.

Great to hear!
Do you still have the firmware file? The viltrox website is not providing it, and I'm trying to locate it.
I’m going to purchase it. Been debating for awhile now all the other canon adapters are sold out
If the APSC lens is attached to the eos R, use an adapter still a vignette or not,
Always success
