Finally, a case with 5.25" drive bay support that does not force you to permanently choose between either the drives or installing a third fan at the front (by virtue of having to hammer out the mounting frame for the fan).
It doesn't look like you can mount the 3rd fan with the 2x2 5.25" bays in the front considering the suspicious holes above the fan at 2:05. also by size alone you would still lose at least 3 of the bays even if the fan was mounted with a center offset. although one could argue that two 180s are as good as 3x140s and you could still mount 1x2 bays in the rear instead of the second psu. also fractal define 7 xl can mount 2x 5.25" bays with 3x140mm fans or a 360mm radiator and is probably much cheaper.
@@TuneDownUtilitiesyou didn’t you understand their comment, they like not having to permanently decide between drives and fans… not that they can have both concurrently
The Fractal Pop Series of cases also offer 5 1/4 drive bays in the PSU basement. That was actually one of the main reasons I went with my current Fractal Pop Air case, since it was a miditower case, it could mount a 280mm AIO Rad as the front intake, has two 5 1/4 drivebay in the bottom and it is long enough for modern GPUs, even with a Rad upfront. I'm currently using an Pop Air Magenta case with an Arctic Liquid Freezer II 280mm AIO with the rad as the front intake and a Sapphire Pulse Radeon RX 7900 XTX as the GPU, fits with quite a bit of room between the GPU and the front mounted Rad.

yes! I have Rosewill cases, but keep eyeing the Silverstone options because they although have ones that have a traditional rack mount form, still have a DIY whitebox homelabber thought to them with the fan placements and interior, so you can still have a fairly quiet build with lots of airflow that isn't just pure windtunnel via high RPM fans. It keeps in mind the average GPU options out there, which for whatever reason has less and less blower style GPUs now, at least at the lower price point levels and keeps in mind regular CPU coolers, etc. I'm just itching to pull the trigger on one of their 5U even.
The Alta D1 looks nice but anything over 400$ for that case is nuts in my opinion. I like the 515x, it looks like it still supports decent length GPUs especially with one of the front fans removed.
I'm from Spain and want the 515X is just what i was looking for. At that price point nothing comes with fans and goes out of budget or are ugly, i really hope it arrives here.
Thanks, Steve! Now I'm out money for a new Silverstone Alta!!! Maybe I'm old, but seeing a NEW production case with old-school features like 5 1/4 bay support, removable motherboard trays, etc. really warms my heart and excites me. I have an Enthoo Primo right now but it has several things that make watercooling it a pain. We've had the 1000D and now the 9000D, but they're big without any of the more "older-school" touches. I'm quite literally sold, gonna shove a new Ryzen 9000 build in it AND I can retain my BDRW for ripping those sweet sweet 4K BluRays.
The Alta D1 is nearly perfect! Love it. I wish more manufactures make cases with slide out trays. I love Retro Cases and their great features that we are lacking today
The CW04 reminds me of the NAD M23 amplifiers you might find in a home theater. It would look so amazing alongside some imposing Class A/B monoblocks amplifiers! HTPC cases receive relatively little attention so if you could continue covering them I'd be thrilled!
Gotta love Silverstone's commitment to making wacky and creative case designs no matter the price. I built my NAS in their CS351 case. In a world of RGB fish tanks, this kind of mechanically clever, function first design is refreshing to see.
I miss those old slide out cases. I still have 2 OG li-lian cases just with this feature. Plus huge fan on HTCP I really wish manufacturers wouldn't start making 5U cases. With an optional rack mount. For the good old home NAS
I love how case design is now coming back around to basically what my Fractal Arc Midi has always been. The modularity is super cool, actual longevity out of cases like this.
This reminds me of old workstation cases I had that needed to have like 4 5.25" slots, and about twice as many 3.5" slots and companies just took their normal cases and slapped one on top of their normal cases.
Oh, wow. Both the Alta D1 and CS383 look sick. I had to buy a used Corsair 600T for my current rig, so seeing some new cases that can fit lots of cheap storage is really exciting
OMG i remember wanting a TJ07 back in the day! If i need a new chassis with my next build i wanna grab that Alta T1 for sure! EK can suck on an egg though.
Silverstone has some awesome and overlooked case designs. I have had a couple of their cases and used their Raven RV03 for almost 10 years. The case rotated the board 90 degrees so the GPU and IO mounted to the top of the case and hung the GPU vertically. I still think that is the best configuration, never had thermal issues even with multiple GPUs in the case.
I don't know how the booths don't have a person assigned to at least keep an eye on GN because we know he's gonna pull stuff apart to show us practical visual/use case 😂. On another note, ever since you introduced me to SilverStone they are on my radar for future projects and enjoy seeing their products.
I have built thousands of PCs, and Silverstone was head and shoulders above every other case manufacturer I've ever worked with. Phenomenal quality -- so happy to see the TJ07 live in this new rendition -- I wish they kept the case plate clean like what they did for the Muderbox OEM Charles did. Still, solid stuff - Thanks for the coverage.
The RM52 is something Id like to see reviewed from last time. Silverstone does have a ton of unique rack mount cases for people who want to rack mount their pcs. Availability is kinda rough though especially for the niche models.
That Silverstone looks like it is built to be flipped to a 4U. Beautiful. If it has handles for it/rail mounts, perfect. And 5.25" come in VERY handy for some of us still.. so, I appreciate that!
The first case looks insane for airflow and the modularity makes it super easy to work on it, and its large and unique looking. So many dope cases at Computex this year! This one and the Evolv X2 from Phanteks are my favs (although i wish the X2 was a Full Tower)
Its about time removable motherboard trays returned as an option; always looking for more creative ways to expand my workstation, looking forward to the release. 👍
I bought a white Silverstone RL06 based on Gamers Nexus' review praising the airflow, and those four included fans with a white light, and the Fara 514X is looking pretty good.
I feel like Silverstone always makes something cool that I wish I could build in/use, even though I don't need it. Every once in a while, they convince me to buy something I don't need but REALLY want. Hope they stay curious and creative because I love it.
silverstone made my favorite case ever (the ft02s). i wish they'd go back to those aluminum monoliths but it's good to see they're still doing some creative stuff.
I purchased a Demcifilter magnetic-framed filter similar to the one seen here for my Fractal Design Nano S around 4 years ago. They have filters for many cases, and mine has worked well.
Had my little Silverstone HTPC case in the HiFi rack for ages. Its last configuration was based on AM1, had a BluRay/HD-DVD combo drive, and three 2.5" SSDs 😊 Still fond memories for the excellent service it provided over the years. Given that I am in Asia, the short tower would be an option for the upcoming Ruzen 9xxx build, hm...
1:29 Also makes doing diagnoses when something Effs up SO much easier. Very cool. Motherboard acting up (maybe?) then yank it out with the quickness and test another. Pretty sick.
I got to be honest about something. The first case that I personally purchased was a cool master Striker full tower. I still have it, and the main reason why I love that case is because of its carry handle. I would love something that is as wide as that case, but a bit shorter in height. Be honest with you none of these cases today surprises me or gets me excited for a case design. I know it's hard to reinvent the wheel x amount of times but I feel like we're not really moving in the direction to...idk where I'm going with this lolz... I just like a lot of things from the cool master case that I bought a long time ago and would love to see things re-implemented from that case.
I'm in for those small micro ATX cases in white. Perfect for a midrange PC build, maybe with used parts. Don't need more space anymore on my desk or my couch setup. But my favorite till now is this "XBox Series X style" case. Sleek and stylish.
Silverstone cases are pretty great. I have a pair of white RL06s and a black GD09B (HTPC). The old RL06 is a little tight to build in, but boy does it cool. The Fara line is very RL06-like but seems from this video to be more build friendly. The GD09B is a 4U case with an external DVD bay if you need one.
Thanks for covering the CW04. I could see it in the background of other youtubers' videos but they all ignored it. Not that I actually watch other youtubers or anything like that though :O
Removable motherboard tray is absolutely awesome, if you need to insert in the top EPS12V connector. The most painful connector to plug in. The second greatest pain being m.2 screws and how easy is to drop them, when mounting in a standing position :D.
Mountain mods did this all like a decade ago, I still have my mountain mod case with radiator and fans on removable rails, motherboard tray, 5.25 modular bays and docks. It was so ahead of its time.
Good to know the Alta D1 is still on the way. The last time I looked for anything with a design that had 5.25" support, a decent amount of 3.5" drive slots, and wasnt over 15 years old was the Fractal Define 7XL, but I decided not to get it for a build because the thermals were mediocre at best and even with the door open all the time the change was marginal. As soon as I saw the D1 from the last video and now the CS383, I think I'm going to have the dynamic duo workstation and NAS/server cases that I'll probably be able to pass down as family heirlooms given their construction (and price tag no doubt).

If it is rackmountable this is nothing xD
Some interesting looking cases! They look very high quality. I love seeing DVD drives in computers in 2024! Still good to have the option in PCs!
Plus huge fan on HTCP
I really wish manufacturers wouldn't start making 5U cases.
Liked the coverage of the workstation/NAS-type cases. It's cool to see what else is out there.
Shame they're all so expensive
Now that Alta D1 looks like a great case! Can't wait to learn more about it.
Instantly added to my favorite playlist! Definitely my next pc build!!!
Love that Silverstone are still producing HTPC cases, one of the only manufacturers left making true horizontal cases.
Loved my Grandia GD08B
The RM52 is something Id like to see reviewed from last time.
Silverstone does have a ton of unique rack mount cases for people who want to rack mount their pcs.
Availability is kinda rough though especially for the niche models.
The CW04 looks neat, I'd love it. A very well thought out case IMO. Great coverage Steve and the GN team 😊
Always liked Silverstone's cases, still rocking a sugo SG-03 that I've had for about 15 years, perfect houses my VR rig and still looks great
That Silverstone looks like it is built to be flipped to a 4U. Beautiful. If it has handles for it/rail mounts, perfect. And 5.25" come in VERY handy for some of us still.. so, I appreciate that!
12:07 that anger fulled placement of the board...
🤣
Love seeing Silverstone stuff! I have a FT02 sitting on my dining room table. Would love to see a successor to that case.
That CW04 Classic HTPC is gorgeous - it would fit right into a high end hi-fi setup and no one would bat an eye.
Thanks for your excellent coverage, Steve
@gamersnexus I'm running a 13600k and 3060 with full noctua cooling in a Silverstone GD08 from 2006-2007. Perfect HTPC case. Exited for the new run!
"We're getting blasted by music again... I don't know if it is GSkill, but we can just assume it is" 🤣@9:27
silverstone made my favorite case ever (the ft02s). i wish they'd go back to those aluminum monoliths but it's good to see they're still doing some creative stuff.
I purchased a Demcifilter magnetic-framed filter similar to the one seen here for my Fractal Design Nano S around 4 years ago. They have filters for many cases, and mine has worked well.
The alta D1 is super cool, it reminds me on the iconic Antec Lanboy Air.
I can't wait to see reviews for some of the cases that have been shown off this week.
So happy to see Silverstone release some exciting cases
More love for SFF cases please!
Love Silverstone. Fara H1m is the first branded and reviewed case I got that fit my budget and boi I was pleasantly surprised with it.
That is one hell of a case, may have to make my next build from that.
I am still using a Silverstone RV01 Case awesome case had 3 builds in it to date it has lasted very well indeed .😉👍
THANK YOU SILVERSTONE!! Yes some of us do still use optical drives!
1:29 Also makes doing diagnoses when something Effs up SO much easier. Very cool. Motherboard acting up (maybe?) then yank it out with the quickness and test another. Pretty sick.
I appreciate that Silverstone is still including HDD activity lights on at least some of their cases.
The video I have been waiting for. I would love to see some silverstone case reviews
Love the magnet comments! Lol. Old school!
Genuinely laughed out loud when I saw the motherboard tray being removed. It's lovely! What a clever idea!
PowerMac G3 was good in that one dropped the side to get to the MB. While a tray it's still vertical.
Steve, my workstation case is a Silverstone Seta D1. This Alta D1 seems like a welcome upgrade to that case
Mountain mods did this all like a decade ago, I still have my mountain mod case with radiator and fans on removable rails, motherboard tray, 5.25 modular bays and docks. It was so ahead of its time.
Love Silverstone cases with all the features.
Liking the Alta D1 and Interested in the T1! Handsome case!
I have the Alta G1M, really like it so far!
GN’s mics are really good with noise cancellation. Can’t even hear the music Steve is talking about. Quality reporting as always
As soon as I saw the D1 from the last video and now the CS383, I think I'm going to have the dynamic duo workstation and NAS/server cases that I'll probably be able to pass down as family heirlooms given their construction (and price tag no doubt).
silverstone has always made interesting stuff. good to see they are still going strong!
