- The newest season of Super Sentai has begun! I wasn't that excited for Ohsama Sentai King-Ohger, but it didn't take long for this premiere episode to grab my attention and change my mind, turning this into one of my most anticipated seasons of tokusatsu!

Full credit to Gira's actor, Taisei Sakai, for his stellar acting. The scene in the throne room where we just watch his face for a minute and the speech that followed was what sold both the character and the show for me.
He straight up stole many attentions in that scene alone. None of the reds so far have a great emotion potrayals like him
The moment of silence where he just processes the threat from Racules makes him feel so much more human and I love it

I love that it's the first sentai named after the mecha. I have a theory that Racules usurped the previous king and massacred his family to tie loose ends but missed the prince and Gira is that prince.

@@RampagingFlippy030 well that's a typical royalty story if a random orphan can control somethings belongs to the royal family then there are two ways crossing into one path one path that he is the long lost son of the king (which concept was even used in kyuranger) or that king was faked who killed the real king whose son was him (which seemingly possible here)
This first episode blew me out of the water to the point where I'm more hyped than I usually am for Sentai. AND IM A KAMEN RIDER FAN!!!
In Toei tokusatsu, producer is the one who decides cast, story, plot etc.
Kingohger's producer is Omori Takahito, his works include Ex-aid, Build and Kyoryuger. Now you know why I am excited since the beginning ;)

I'm still impressed that Gira, as his first act as an Ohger, straight up solo-piloted the full mecha right at the get-go. Mind blowing. Also, I feel like that Yamma's cynical insights might be valuable in later episodes.
I'd imagine the first arc of this season is for Gira to gather and gain the trust of the other rangers, while on the run from authorities. Perhaps "camp out" at some of the other kingdoms and learn their personal takes on the historical records.

The first part of a sentai is largely introductory, and if episode 1 is any metric the team behind kingoger is very goof a getting points across in a consise form.
That would be interesting to see it.
Really like this first episode, I think another reason Gira's big moment works well is early in the episode we get a moment showing he believed in Racules which makes his confrontation with him more emotional.
I was blown away by the gattai fight scene. We all know Toei like to use big budget in the important episodes but I didn't imagine they would go this big, and I'm glad.
Also I really like how they make each senshi a different henshin pose, even without the full CGI background (like KR).
I really like the idea of Gira essentially being a heel for the kingdom also my headcannon on why the mecha is named kingohger since they haven’t formed the team yet maybe there was no team name to begin with so when they do form the team proper they name themselves after the mech since it’s already a symbol of the different kingdoms united
oh, like Voltron Force/Alliance/'s Paladins!!!
Added points to the Insect Gods(Insect Zords) as they have asymmetrical details that looks like old battle damage that got repaired or healed akin robo Battle Scars. It adds to the lore of them being battle hardened Ancient Weapons that fight alongside all the kings and protects the kingdom.
personally this was one of the strongest starts to a Sentai i've seen. it sets up the lore of the world and introduces us to key characters, then below it all is some great nuance with Gira and Racles, even with Yanma being the odd one out at the beginning and doing things his way, and sets up just how we're going forward with a clever premise, with our red being postered as a fugitive by his own kingdom and still having to work with the other kings.
honestly that LED screen is doing us wonders. all of the digital set pieces look beautiful & really immerse you in these kingdoms, and the CG is more than passable most of the time even for the first episode. gotta love how budgetary issues were brought up by the Japanese community so much it apparently got trending lmao, not even counting all of the outfits for the extras and whatnot
Gira for me was interesting with the whole "King of Evil" idea, but i never knew how much i loved it until the premiere. from other material you'd get that Racles is the proper king and Gira is related, but you'd never guess Racles was *evil* and that's how Gira's King of Evil shtick settles. his actor is so good my god, i dont think ive fallen in love with a red ranger this quickly. that scene of him stealing Racles' mantle and OhgerCalibur will be a scene i'll never forget.
the suits to me are amazing and individualistic (love how the monotonous colors are broken by how complex the armor is), i love the jingles of the weapon, the opening is an earworm ive had it loop for an hour plus at this point, Kingohger is an amazing mech with the piloting rig and design,, this show has one hell of a start. god i hope they keep this pace up. bless God Ant.
I'm all in on this show after this first episode. I love love Racules and Gira's rivalry, best part of the episode for me, hands down. Gira's actor does *such* a good job in the trone room, because after he picks up the sword and points it at Racules, and he's told what that means, you see this look on his face that conveys so many emotions, like how a regular person would react if they found out this awful truth, horror mixing with indecision before blossoming into resolution when he assumes his "Evil" persona.
I'm not sure what "things" you were referring to when it came to Racules at the 7:00 mark, but I have a pair of theories on what could happen to him. My guess is either he'll get a Redemption Arc and become the 6th ranger. A "Heracles" is a different species of Beetle from the Kabuto and Stag we've seen so-far. So it's possible we get a "God Heracles". OR he doubles down on his treacherous ways and joins the Bugnarok somehow. Culminating in him becoming the De Facto "Evil Ranger" we've seen used in the last 2 seasons. I could *easily* see him filling the role of a Staceaser or Don Murasame.
The "things" he's referring to is a leak we got a few weeks ago. A plushie ad revealed the existance of a Silver/Gunmetal version of KuwagataOhger named OkuwagataOhger and considering how the first episode played out, you can kinda guess who's gonna be in the suit.
World Building at it's zenith. So many cool locations and well established character introductions, and the best transformations after Donbros.
The one red ranger that stole my heart is the King of "Evil" himself, The Rebel, Kuwagata Ohger, GIRA 😎, It's been awhile since I've rooted for an Anti Hero in Super Sentai ever since Lupinranger VS Patranger... Can't wait to go all out with him through the King Ohger Journey
I am also a simp for anti hero red like kairi and marvelous so i really like gira's character he is a mixture of kairi and taro
King-Ohger came to make history and be a revolution for Tokusatsu. When Shirakura said that Toei's intention was to make Super Sentai bigger than Kamen Rider I thought it was just to please their bosses but seeing King-Ohger I'm starting to believe it. This is the first Tokusatsu series in HISTORY to be set entirely in a fantasy fantasy world instead of the usual contemporary Japan. We had Lionmaru and Arashi that take place in Feudal Japan and Uchuu Kara no Messeji that takes place in space or RPM that is in the post apocalypse like Mad Max. With this new technology they ask to create totally different worlds as is common in anime. Can you imagine a Kamen Rider in a cyberpunk world? all of this is now possible thanks to King-Ohger
Gira IS the next Tokiwa Sougo! If this is how Zi-O going to redeem itself then I'm here for it.

Though it had a lot of ups and downs, I enjoyed it a lot with it being the 2nd series I watched when I returned to the franchise after 9 years (Lost interest after Fourze ended, decided to rewatch OOO to refresh my knowledge on one of my favorite seasons). I like it when characters are serious and goofy at the right times and not completely ruin a scene with comedy
This premiere caught me off guard in every single aspect, it's just AWESOME
I didn’t think much either but this sentai looks promising it really is a new era of heroes. As fire red ranger being an evil king to fight against the true corruption I love that idea a lot because it adds more to Gira proving himself like how he could morph also, I think he doesn’t have royal blood but kingkugawata truly did choice him to be the king like Arther pulling out the sword in the stone story.
As for the team I look forward to seeing if they’ll all trust Gira in the future and if that happens will king Hercu make them traitors by holding their nations in some way?
Blue is interesting as he doesn’t just follow like the others. As for the rest I need more to go on.

It changed my mind too. I was not exited about the main Rider I mean the Red Ranger at all, but after seeing the episode I'm his number 1 fan
While the cgi isn't that great, I still love what they did with it. I mean, let's face it, it's a sentai show, they probably neither have the time nor budget to produce something of better (texture) quality. But you can still feel that a lot of effort went into that. There's a lot going on, so many details to look at. Most of the time i had trouble reading the subtitles, because i was just mesmerized by the visuals. This might end up being the first sentai show where I watch every Episode twice, just to make sure that I can drink in all the visuals.
They are not using a typical green screen this season toei and sony have teamed up for this season for toei to use VFX LED WALLS

i think the best part is how they aren't using these visuals to just make a any old city or forest that they could probably just film at, they are creating these fantastical environments to really take advantage of rendering the settings and break the limitations of our world to present something far more unique while still using practical locations when it fits

I just watched this episode and i can say im trill to see in which direction they are gonna take this story, GIRA gives me all kinds of vibes similar to Naofumi from the Rising of the Shield Hero, the characters and the kingdoms are very unique, the attack of the villains remind it me a lot about Attack on Titan, and I think is gonna be a series full of surprises.
I think it’s a simple as being chosen because you need to protect people, nothing to do with royalty. Gira risked his life to protect people and was rewarded. The other three saw the fighting for power, but focused on protecting the kingdoms and were able to change. Blue had the chance to protect people, but he went for glory of being the one to reawaken the stag beetle. He tried to protect people, yes, but as an afterthought.
I think the reason why gira is now the red is because kawaigon was waiting for someone who is actually King Worthy. If we take a look at who was running the kingdom before Gira showed up, he can be a pretty good indicator of how his family raised him growing up. However when it comes to Gira he grew up as a peasant eager up with the people and wanting to help the people because they're basically family to him.
And I just love the fact that it's this reason instead of just so he's the chosen one or he's just special cuz. They actually give a reason to why he's special.
The CG backgrounds remind me of the PS1-era Final Fantasy games and I think that also helps each Lord’s kingdom feel so distinct and magical
Like everyone was, I was nervous for King Ohger (especially since I really love knights and fantasy) because of how well Donbrothers went. Although I'm still cautiously optimistic because we still have 48 episodes, this is quite possibly the strongest start ever for a Sentai and Im ALL FOR IT. It's a good sign when I already remember some of the names of the rangers *by memory* by episode 1! Usually takes me 4 or 5 (or never, believe it or not. I struggle still with Donbrothers names)
I'm surprised by the last part, since all their names are in their Ranger designation (besides Jiro)
@Ride-Player BB that I part I remember but that's about it. I'm like "Kiji is crazy" and then I'm like "Oh yeah, Kijino. Only ones I remember 100% are Taro, Haruka, and Tsubasa. The others I have to remind myself "Oh yeah." (Don't get me started on the Cerebrans (or Juto) though)

I wasn't sure how I was going to feel about this season based on the advance info, but after this premiere episode I am so onboard!!! I haven't been this excited by a first episode since Gokaiger! I already like all the charcters; the arrogant tough guy, happy go lucky strong guy, self absorbed entitled princess, stoic mysterious warrior, and of course our fearless selfless leader. Since he's apparently going to be an outlaw, we may have a bit of a Robin Hood thing going on here. Whatever the case, I am super excited for this! Hopefully our enthusiasm will be rewarded!

Definitely a great start to King-Ohger, but I am cautious due to some Toku having great first episodes and then it falls apart from there (Zi-O, LuPat), so we'll see what happens but definitely am interested in King-Ohger no matter what

@@ammaralrai9955 That's fine, you're entitled to your opinion, and to be honest, I liked the characters in LuPat, but the story felt like it went nowhere until it was too late in the game, and of course, although I like the Lupins, they had way too much focus for the show when it was should have been both teams get about the same amount of focus
Gira's moment in the throne room declaring to be "evil" bought me instantly, one of the more unique Red's by that imo
I just watched the first episode few hours ago because I did not intend to do so; just like you, Donbrothers has a big impact to me that I feared the new Super Sentai could not make me feel that kind of excited. I was wrong. Now I can't wait for the next episode.
I am guessing that the spider based 6th ranger would come from a kingdom destroyed by the Bugnoroks a long time ago and he would seek out revenge on them. The rumor suggest he would be evil at least for few episodes. Probably because none of the other countries helped his so he might have some gripes against them.

Oh that would be an awesome setup. Another theory i've seen is that since the Bugnarok's prime minister is studying the Shugods, that the 6th might be a creation of them

The thing is that sentai is drifting more and more of just skipping silver all together.
Also gold kinda fit with the kingly sentai or armored rangers.
I felt the episode for the premiere was kind of fast when they move through Gira's personal reason to just storm the castle. Maybe show him doing a bit more trying to help others and getting into the castle but the rivalry angle with the current king and Gira getting his drip makes up for it.
I also didn't think the bugs would be just apart of the world either but the angle of all the Rangers being kings of different nations and they being all so different is fun and looks like this could easily become a video game as well. Not to mention your comment on the soldiers getting Ranger like suits but instead of it being mass produced it be like a Battleizer or power up form that has them leading the knights of each kingdom showing that not just being kings makes them strong, but the power of the people they command and rule gives them more power and deals with bigger scale fights or they lead into some massive battles every now a then till a big final fight.
From the suits, character personality hints and such I wanted this to be fun and it was.
Honestly a Fire Emblem type game with these Rangers would be so fun to play.
I'm telling you this series is already shaping up to be one of the best. It's already in my top 3. 1st being gokaiger cause how could it not be? 2nd being kyoryuger, since it was the first season that genuinely brought me to tears of joy and sorrow multiple times during it's airing. And now this? This is already easily in the #3 spot and it just might move up the ranks.
I like the idea of the" mass producced" sentai. I think it be a first time. Could be interesting if these mass produced use the motif of the main small mech(ladybug, spider, and ant) , with a more simple suit withuour the cloack and a smaller armor.
PD: well in general the mass produced idea is nor really popular for the producers, but recently they give it more use in Kamen rider, and in both franchise they give more weight to the grunts in the later series.
Sound like an interesting idea to play with and making them as Extra Rangers, which would be interesting to see, like make warriors, bodyguards or civilians who are made as Extra King-Ohgers.

There appears that the shu god are divided in 3 categories, the main(the core team + plus the sixth), the armament (extended team, the assistants) and lastly the smallest one that complete the forms. (being the army's) like the ant, spider and ladybug.
Now the main problem is the first episode really set the bar very high especially for a sentai show ..
I don't know how they able to handle this amount of production quality in the later episodes..

The first episode BLEW MY MIND! I already liked the concept of a full team of bugs, as it was something that I wanted for a long time now, but the episode went above and beyond to really create a great world building, and the characters are already interesting. I'm looking forward to see the story continues! :D
Tbh I wasn't expecting much but that's cuz I wasn't really able to see the premiere of the first episode but from what I've seen so far this Sentai season is a tier above don brothers but what really is mind blowing is the fact that this season's Sentai Mecha is a 10 zord combo and we can only imagine how crazy the big final form of the mech is going to look like so I'm definitely going try to find a way to watch the rest of the series where I live.

I agree. This has exceeded my expectations. This reminded me of Black Panther, where you have Wakanda but different tribes. And Attack on Titan given the full scale invasion. I do think, in my opinion, maybe Racles was the one who brought the invasion because he was so cool and calm during the attack, like he was already expecting it (even though there was already a prophecy stating it has been 2000 years since the last battle). So much to look forward to, so much potential, even storyline of KR Geats is getting me hyped! Haven’t been this excited to watch a season of Super Sentai since Lupinranger vs. Patranger.
One thing is, King-Ohger's production values seems way higher than other Sentai series.
Was also very surprised by the first episode. It was one of the best first episodes ever in Sentai! The CG was alright, but it blends very well with the mecha and the suits, thankfully. My favorite is the Gattai sequence and the design of the Mecha is so awesome. I absolutely love the dragonfly wings! Also interesting how it used more than 5 pieces right from the get-go. The story was also nicely paced and gave enough to get you hooked while also looking forward to more.
The only main issue I have is the amount of CG is going to be worrisome to their budget lol.

So this is the first Sentai in a while to really grab my interest. Starting with Toquger many of the series didn't grab my attention ( not saying they weren't good but just didn't readily pull me in). I think lupinranger vs patranger and ryusoulger were the last ones that really attracted me. While I have heard good things about Zenkaiger and Bonbros I haven't been compelled to see them.
So with this series, it is the most excited I have been for a while. Aside from already wanted a bug themes Sentai, the suit designs and world building is very unique to previous sentai. It reminds me a bit of zyuuranger, but we never really got to see the differences in culture in that series. So having different cultures and unique landscapes.
My theories:
"Only royals can use the Ohger Calibur."
1. Gira is the Racules's bastard child. Placed into an orphanage sometime after birth to keep the king's name and image clean.
2. Gira is the Racules's nephew. Gira's father was the crown prince but Racules planned a clever murder plot against his brother, which succeeded, then tossed his own nephew into an orphanage as a baby so there is no one else in the way to his ascension on the throne.
Hear me out. We have an episode where all of the kings get kidnapped and the servants have to try and either transform and be the team for the episode or be the rulers for the episode.

Correction, they're still using greenscreen for most of their shots, just that they've gotten better at keying them. There are probably some "LED" shots but it's actually rear projections (which can be seen in Donbrother's opening as they full on just showed the entire stage lol). Just pointing it out cause its my area of study atm and I'm super invested in Toku exploring this tech
I liked it. This will be the first Sentai series I tune in for every week. Love the suits. Love the Mecha. Like the concept. King Ohger is being set up as a return to form for Sentai after Zenkaiger and Don Brothers went too far off the rails imo. But at the same time it’s also a nice unique experience that I feel like they haven’t touched upon yet. Kings and Queens. Defending a kingdom, with insect Zords.
My hope for red is that he’s not someone who’s related to the original red I hope he is just some guy who becomes a king
4:44 that part Tombo-ohger was trying to unseal/summon God Kuwagata from its slumber but fail to get a respond from the Kuwagata zord
I think Rakules is going to become the Silver King-Ohger with another Kuwagata beetle (in silver) and will oppose the other King-Ohgers throughtout the series. The White King-Ohger with his spider zord will become the sixth member of the team.
I mean his name is Racles/Racules aka Hercules Beetle.So foreshadowing
1:15, (Imma get super nerdy on this. Prepare.) we do get a little bit of this in Zyuranger but that was the start of a 'touch and go' writing which we could have gotten to learn about the worlds itself but instead it was pushed aside and we never get to learn fully of our heroes' origin. Same thing can be said with Junko Komura's first writing duty with Zyuohger. We get introduced to the Beastland but after 8 episodes in when Larry was introduced, not much of the Beastman nor their land was even expanded upon and we don't get to hear from some of the people's perspective nor human's perspective on the monsters which could have easily been the flint to ignite the flame for the Deathgaliens.
There were some attempts at world-building in previous Sentai but probably due to budgets or even the writers not being able to come up with world-building attempts, they were very far and few between when it comes to memorable and we end up on Earth...lots of times, doing the same Sentai routine. Zenkaiger also had a problem with not being able to construct a world of how bad the rule Tojitendo was in Kikaitopia nor the Kikainoids ever relay any kind of hatred nor fear towards their world other than our heroes. The only time I feel world-building was done right without compromising our heroes' development was in Turboranger where the fight between fairies and Bouma was thousands of years ago. Locales were mentioned but due to time passing, things changed and we can see that due to explanations given in the show and even some MOTWs were able to recall their fights against Lakia (a reason why Lakia was a thorn among the Bouma higher-ups) and some of said monsters did had history and contributions to the great war years ago. That series was written by Hirohisa Soda and despite it being his weakest, I do feel it was a much better back-to basics series as Liveman was his best.
Back to King Oh-ger. I do feel representing their world is a pretty good step-up because we know a lot of toku takes place on Earth and all that jazz. I just hope it doesn't cut to Earth a few episodes afterwards because it would ruin the integrity of what would ultimately be an intriguing premise of a Sentai season in a long time.

5:21, basically..Sentinel 'Dickamus' Prime. Every ver. of him sans the G1 80's ver. 5:33, something a dictator would do. This is a breath of fresh air to see because we really need to see characters who seem to be in the good guys part but are ultimately the ones who are pulling everything down in terms of getting things straight. That one bully from Team Galaxy, Flash Thompson in early Spiderman (tho he gets redeemed because there are more evil characters out there), Sentinel Prime I mentioned and now this guy. I just hope we don't see him get some redemption or anything. I'm interested in how his development goes. Hopefully it's better than Nada's.

Already love theses ranger might try to have this be my first sentai I watch completley it's been hard to try to get into it been watching reviews been trying to start with jetman or gokaiger bc I heard good things about them but ended up watching reviews bc I couldn't find where to watch em
i actually watched this when i see this video on my feed, just to not spoil me and i came whit a little low expectations since to me the "trailers" where kinda weird but fun, and now i have gooooooooooooood felings about this show already, ill watch the next episode when it came to get subed!

Seriously, weird backgrounds aside, everything about this premiere just clicked for me.
I can already tell I'm gonna love Gira as a red ranger, the rest of the team looks cool, King-Ohger itself is a dope-as-hell super robot (it's literally a mechanical god made of ten insects), and I really do like the idea that we'll have human antagonists alongside the Bugnarok.
Speaking of the Bugnarok, we don't really know their deal, but we do know they're a real threat. I'm just hoping that the next few episodes will show us how the villains operate and what their own personalities and dynamics are.
Since their zords are insects themed. Their transformation is actually a metaphor process, breaking the caccoon and born the ranger
The World Building In King-Ohger Is Amazing

Hi Mr. Thomasjujube I did watch the 1st episode of this super sentai series oshama sentai king-ohger and all I can say is kind of like metal heroes B fighters AKA big bad Beetleboards With a little bit of kamen rider saber and Ryussoulger Mixed in
I honestly think that the Premier for King-Ohger is better than both Donbrother and Zenkaiger. I also like how it starts out similar to Kiramager, where the red mecha ( Mashin Fire and God Kuwagata ) chooses the red

It's a great work of Toei. It's ambitious, with scope and world buiding. The characters, their mannerisms, their motivations, it's something new to Sentai.

KingOhger has good expectations
I definitely appreciate them doing something different every year, even if I still don't like the more armored suits for their base forms or last season's weird cgi Rangers.
Three ways to go with Raculese, 1) disc one final boss, 2) aligns with multiple monster groups and becomes final BBEG a.k.a the Brajira model, 3) Storius 2.0.
Gira's speech remids me so much of Hououin Kyouma from Steins;Gates.
it's kind of obvious that Gira is from a noble family and is probably the true sovereign, but it would be pretty interesting if he was just an ordinary person. It would send the message that having royal blood is not necessary to be a hero in this universe.
I actually love the suits and designs so much. Coming off of Zenkaiger and Don Brothers, these new suit and helmets are so badass. Don Brothers was ok but having pink, blue and black being the weird CG and giant monkey suit thing was just too silly for me. Had they not done the CGI and monkey arms, I would have absolutely loved Don brothers completely as the mecha was badass and the helmets were cool too. But this episode was both fun and dramatic but extremely badass setting up the future conflict between red and blue is super exiting as well

This is, by far, the best super sentai I’ve ever seen. The story is great, the characters are intriging, the gattai is super smooth and the fight scenes are more dynamic than the previous series. They really went all in this time after 2 years of mediocrisy (tbh, Zenkaiger is a mess and Donbrother is so confusing it makes me angry). Finally I’m never been so super hyped since Gokaiger
Well the concept of the royal arms is like hmmm a copy of kamen rider kabuto’s perfect zectre sword. But the story and the character portrayal is pretty neat. The blue ranger tried to activate the red ranger one’s not his so it kinda look like he doesn’t transform or look like he’s not worthy of the blue one but the case is he is trying to be a red ranger. The robot only has the 20% of it’s total capabilities when gira piloted it alone compared to when it had all the ohger rangers inside them piloting each parts.

Like you I too wasn't as interested in King-ohger to begin with (mostly because I'm still trying to get over donbrothers), but this episode really got me interested in the series.

Never thought they going for MC to become opposite villain. The most satisfying part is when kultulus or whatever his name is shock when Gira can summon Kuwagata and become king ohger. I think it not because blood related stuff going on to become king ohger, maybe it wtf they call pure heart to protect and not because you're a king.

I love the medieval/fantasy/futuristic style of the show, I like the suits, I like the bugs, I like everything !
